I think the answer to that is very simple, they didn't have enough budget in the first year to get all the detailed pieces they wanted right away. So they started off slowly with transitions phase parts as they go in to this new more detailed aesthetic. Having only a few detailed pieces with the mostly smooth CCBS pieces at first wouldn't have worked, so they couldn't jump right in to what they wanted to do.

We're going to try and keep this updated from now on. Here's a bit of what we missed.

I would just change one thing from your list: 1. Protector of Earth (Best) 2. Protector of Stone 3. protector of Jungle 4. Protector of Water 5. Protector of Fire 6. Protector of Ice (Worst) Personally I like stone better because of his limb colors (and the return of a brownish color). Fire and Ice I personally really don't like because of their arm design. Fire makes up for it a bit because of his story value and shoulder mounted gun, but ice has little to offer besides that cool blade piece I can use in system MOCs.

Bio will be back, and from this pic, I know it has not lost it's feel. I am very happy .

Well I honestly have lost interest in it since Bio comics stopped being included. But I always flipped through my little brothers copy and found things I enjoyed from time to time. Having so many younger siblings, if I want to keep looking through it, I'm set for the next 13 years anyway .If Bio comics are included again I can haggle them off my younger siblings . I really wish LEGO would create some sort of TFOL/AFOL magazine (heck I'd even pay for a subscription to it) with articles on LEGO history, master builders, etc. Sort of like the stuff in Brick by Brick.

Is it just me, or does it look like a lot less work was put in the box art in this set?

A lot of people are talking about a wave of younger members, I think there may as well be an influx of users like me who knew Bionicle well at the time, but were a bit too young to discuss it (or didn't get around to it) while it was still around. I know me and quite a few internet pals of mine will be looking to become more active here because we believe Bio discussion in general will boost. We previously did not become fully active users because we did believe there to be enough Bionicle discussion to satisfy us. We discussed it in smaller groups and communities where there wasn't as much non-Bio discussion getting in the way. (though I'm sure these points of why we have not joined can be debated among the more active users here, but none the less, they are our reasons.)

I might have considered buying one if it wasn't for that price tag. Some of them are a bit... Not my style I guess is the best way to put it . These are awesome! I've never seen such fine detail put in to custom Kanohi! I really like the ones with the rusting look to them.

The LEGO Group has an extremely experienced and knowledgeable marketing team. Mads wasn't the only great mind in the marketing branch of the company, nor was he the only great mind on the management board. While it's unfortunate he's leaving, we can feel safe with the fact that another person will step up to the CMO position and do a fine job. I'm just always skeptical about these things. It's when people stop being worried things could go bad that they do. The thing is that it's not the position of fans to have to worry about something so behind-the-scenes and irrelevant to us as a change in Lego's Chief Marketing Officer. This change isn't going to affect set design. It's not going to affect manufacturing, or pricing, or anything that would adversely affect us end consumers. What it might (not necessarily, but possibly) affect is Lego's advertising, and maybe their cross-media promotions like the Ninjago TV show. But I can't imagine the person who takes his place will be making a lot of changes to that, because what Lego's doing now has been working wonders for them—the current marketing paradigm has made brand-new themes like Ninjago, Chima, The Lego Movie, and Friends into best-sellers, and has succeeded admirably in reminding kids and adults of the joys of Lego products. It's valuable for consumers to take an active interest in the business dealings of their brand of choice, but as far as news like this is concerned, it's just another day at work. One of the old guard left, and someone new will likely take his place, but ultimately this news alone doesn't bode good or ill for the company as a whole. Well knowing the effect Nipper made on the LEGO group as I read in Brick by Brick, it just puts a bit more impact on it to me. Plus I've seen CEO's who stepped up in successful companies start to really turn them down the wrong path. Such as Bob Iger's (CEO of the Disney Company) effect on the Disney parks (though I doubt anyone would know much about this unless they are a Disney Parks geek like me).

It's always somewhat unsettling when a change like this happens in any company. Nipper did great things for LEGO, it's hard to see him go. We can only hope someone steps up who knows what they're doing to take his place. Not someone who will drive LEGO back in to the late 90's mistakes.

Well that's your fault, not the LEGO Group's. I keep all my HF foil packages. Why not? They're reusable by design, stylish, and unlike canisters, take up next to no space when empty or near-empty. I think a large appeal the Bionicle canisters had for me was their playability. Remember when the Bohrok sets had the function to be suspended inside their canisters? Now THAT was a cool function. (Something that the HF bags seem to be missing at the moment.) However, you are right in that they definitely do have their advantages. Yes, that is using packaging to it's fullest extent. Having the Bohrok hanging upside down in their clear canister looks pretty awesome. I have one displayed on my desk.

Well for me atleast, they generate more waste. As I wouldn't throw away any of the good quality hard plastic containers. But the new HF bags I toss several minutes after getting back from the store.

No matter how many times I watch it, I can still hardly believe what I saw.

Six half-hour specials in 2014. Is that counting the episodes already aired? I've got to say I miss seeing it on every Wednesday, but this is better than nothing.

I don't know that I agree with this; more competition for Lego means they'll have to streamline their product releases and find ways to cut costs; I kind of fear the day when they have to come to the conclusion that making a hundred more star wars sets is more profitable than investing in another Bionicle or Ninjago. Big bang themes like Bionicle and Ninjago make far more profitable than licensing. I think LEGO learned in 2004 that keeping their focus on the quality of the brick and building within it is what will keep them rising. And is sure has. Their rates have still not stopped rising by double digits every year, and I think they know why. They're definitely not stupid about it. (If you haven't already, read Brick by Brick. It has a lot of information about how LEGO strategy works and were their prophet comes from. I found it very interesting.)

I think this is actually a good thing for LEGO. Bigger competition means the strive for better products. Though everything is becoming a monopoly now, that I don't care for.

This could be good in the future for keeping prices down. But they have to do it right. I know most of you trust LEGO with this, but I'm kind of a skeptic with things like this. I won't have much faith in this until I see this new material in action. I don't like putting to much trust in any company, because if too many people do that is when they'll start to feel like they can sell us anything (90's and early 2000's). I'll be in support once I see it live up to the standards.

The battle for Ninjago City is a very cool set. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to resist getting it . Or would, since I doubt I really have the budget for it.

All these sets are really, really, awesome. The Sea Cow is an incredible pirate ship, possible the best one LEGO has ever done. Though the smaller version of metal beard disturbs me a bit. But that's a bit picky, you can get the full sized one I guess. The Mech is cool, when I saw it in the movie I was hoping we'd get a set for it. The overall design doesn't disappoint. The Secret police has to be my favorite, for pretty much one reason; Johnny Thunder!!!!!!!! I've always been a huge fan of him and it's nice to see him back in action after all these years (though he was in LU). The price is a bit high though, IMO. Spaceship, spaceship, spaceship! (you know we're all going to have to do that forever now ) This set is brilliant, just brilliant. A modern spin on classic space. (now, if only it could become a theme)
