    hey everybody! I decided to visit bzp last night and was really happy to see a lot of familiar usernames. I joined here back when I was only 15 years old... I'm nearly 30 now, and looking at my post history on this account it looks like I haven't regularly posted here since bionicle gen 2 was coming out. I think the best part of checking around sites I used to frequent is seeing the familiar users getting into careers they enjoy, getting really into a new hobby, or otherwise just doing new things in life.
    So here's my question for everybody, whether you've been here a long time or not. What have you been up to since Bionicle ended? 
    As for me, I became a game developer. Not my full time gig yet, I'm working as a cook full time now too. Back during my teenage bzpower days, I always thought I would be a visual artist or novelist, but nowadays I'm way more into game dev and producing music. I can't link my project since it's fairly M-rated, but I have one game on Steam! My goal right now is to make a lot of little arcade projects in my signature garish grossout style.
    Anyway, this is me procrastinating. I should be programming right now, lol. Let me know what you've been up to! See you all around! ❤️

    writing a new epic thingy

    Hey bzpower, I haven't been around in a loooong time but I used to write a lot of stories on here.
    I've been thinking a lot about a new story, one which is spun-off from Bionicle but not about the lore, world, or characters we are familiar with-- the idea is an imaginary toy line inspired by Bionicle where I design the sets as part of the story. The concept is centered around action figure model kits based on bionicle but also gunpla/zoids, where mask collection plays a role in the story but the idea is that the toys are designed to be custom painted, rather than having color variations sold in mask packs and the like. The idea also involves the sapient robot characters piloting larger robots, because I absolutely love robots-in-robots. There are no Matoran or Toa but instead a race called the Knecht, who live in an industrialized world and are at war with organic aliens.
    Anyway, I'm keeping this short and kind of vague as I haven't made much progress on the story and I am spending most of my time on other creative works... but if I eventually wrote something like this for the Epics forum, would anybody be interested in reading it?

    I really want to update my premier membership, I really miss having a blog on here again :-P
     
    Anyway though some quick updates
    been thinking of getting back into Bionicle fanfics! I've tried doing some Kopaka/Pohatu shipping oneshot things but it's been so long that I don't know the characters as well as I once did :-(
    ive been getting super into Transformers comics lol (hence the username change...I can't believe Arcee was up for grabs!). Super loving MTMTE and RID so far, I'm so pleased to see Rattrap in a context outside Beast Wars :Y
    speaking of Transformers I've been getting into drawing them, and my little ponies, and sometimes ponies as bots and sometimes bots as ponies

    Fanfic Idea

    I've had an idea for a really long time but it might be too silly to make a semi-serious thing--
     
    Humanized Nidhiki/Lhikan/Krekka and others in a buddy cop inspired epic on Metru Nui. The idea, I guess, could portray either Nidhiki as an amateur who gets paired with a veteran Lhikan, or maybe a jaded Nidhiki who gets paired with the newbie Krekka and Lhikan is a detective. Of course The Shadowed One would be the chief, and Dume would be the governor, but I don't think I want to go with the classic LOMN plot. Probably a new villain, not a new guy but a "good" or "neutral" Matoran playing the antagonistic role
     
    I dunno, I definitely would like to put all these characters on the same side. Lariska, Roodaka, lots of other Dark Hunters as well, and the Toa Metru of course. All on the police force of a sorta humanized Metru Nui?
     
    Though portraying the DH's as crooked cops and the good guys from Metru Nui as a gang opposing TSO's regime could be cool too.
     
    Idk I'm just FULL OF ideas on this.

    i’d like to see more regenerative mask powers in bionicle fanfics tbh. like there’s the canon mask of regeneration, and in mask of light gali uses water to heal tahu’s poison (though i dunno if this is strictly canon or just a movie thing that’s considered canon by default and it just has to be now) but most mask powers or elemental powers are highly combative.
    with the mask of life playing such a big role you’d think these masks would be more common
    as someone who likes playing cleric/healer roles in RPGs i think itd be nice to see more toa with medic powers, either during battle, after battle, or just in general. toa do more than battle!
    anyway how about a mask of quick healing? like, when you use it it accelerates your own body’s natural healing process a la wolverine
    a mask of poison removal, which already exists as a kanoka
    a mask that lets you restore forgotten memories, or dredge up knowledge from others’ subconscious?
    a mask which allows you to pinpoint the damage or non-working parts of a machine (or maybe even an organic body to a trained user) in order to fix it
    a mask which converts the user’s elemental energy into elemental energy usable by the target, e.g. a toa of air drains his own elemental energy in order to give a toa of fire a boost

    anyway this got too long. does anyone have any other ideas?

    so, I went to Acen in Rosemont last weekend, as per tradition. It was a lot of fun and I'd be more wordy but I'm feeling a bit down so instead I'll just share my cosplay pics and what I bought in the vendor hall. I cosplayed Rui Ninomiya from Gatchaman Crowds.
     
    Any Acen-goers on BZPower?? We should hang out next year!!! (alternatively, Anime Midwest is coming up......:3)
     
    And yes, I commissioned a Pohatu/Kopaka picture from artist alley. I didn't want to sound like a COMPLETE nerd so I didn't request something shippy......I got something funny instead.

    i'm running into the pitfall i've never really had before which is writer's block. i wrote tomes upon tomes of fanfiction back in the day and never really hesitated but now i'm dreading writing something as trivial as bionicle fanfiction////////

    Custom Painting Bionicle

    I've been thinking of repainting a model--either an Agori (specifically Atakus) or a Bohrok--to give it some cool weather.
     
    I'm picking these sets specifically because they look pretty great out of the box without requiring modifications to beef them up or make them look better from another angle, and articulation won't really matter.
     
    I don't have any Bohrok on hand though. Are they blended translucent-opaque pieces, or is the opaque part painted on? i can't quite remember and if it's blended I'll have a harder time doing the Bohrok than Atakus.

    i always hit the thrift shops to find old bionicles and lo and behold i hit the motherload. of course i couldnt resist opening the ones i've never owned before (visorak are REALLY COOL, i missed out on those ones)
     
    however i have sealed:

    i'm thinking of selling them for $20 each...is this too much of a bargain or too expensive? I think the fact they're still sealed up gives them a lot more value. if i manage to pick up a sealed hewkii somewhere i'll probably sell the lot for $60-$100 depending on how much people care about the canisters being shut
     
    who knows maybe they contain rare misprints.......ooooo spooky

    anyhow stuffs been good. by good i mean really bad. i had one too many brass monkeys which compelled me to hit up the Webs Foremost for Bionicle Content
     
    being exploited at work. mental problems are bad as ever. will never afford plastic surgery. all but stopped drawing and programming.
     
    on the good end though im moving in with my girlfriend........soon?? i hope!! i love her more than bionicles
     
    have any of you guys read oyasumi punpun. i just finished it and it was good

    So, I guess youtube embedded links are ok on BZP now? Let me know if it's not ok in the blogs, or whatever. Anyway, I want to start a thingy, not with any regularity, I'm just gonna, I dunno. Post a song sometimes. It'll be fun I guess.
     
    Here's a new song by a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine, arguably one of the best songs off this annoyingly folksy band's newest record, a concept album about wrestling. I guess. The lyrics are nothing too profound or special, it's no "Up With the Wolves" or "Autoclave" or "No Children" that's for sure, but that's what makes this album good imo. It foregoes the gloom and doom of Talahassee and The Life of the World to Come and instead introduces an earnest blend of optimism and honesty.

    so, i thought about my favorite characters... lhikan, toa inika, krahka, takanuva, pohatu.......... all great but also all humanoid. i considered some sets with interesting builds but im nowhere near experienced enough to pull off a fenrakk or gahdok or nivawk
     
    SO I DECIDED ON NIDHIKI!
     
    unfortunately, the only ccbs sets i own are bulk 3.0 and tahu. which makes me a little short on green pieces. you know. THE ECONOMY.
     
    this gives me a little less than a week to whip together something in ldd (assuming it still supports ccbs??) and get some hot new parts from bricklink. possible? who knows.
     
    concerns? i dont want to rehash the vahki head but instead use a custom ccbs build. this will probably prove a little problematic because the kanoka disk is very important to his design imo. also im a newbie to ccbs. ive never claimed to be... "GOOD" at mocing at all, but at least technic is familiar territory

    BZPower: The Video Game

    I'm not gonna post any images yet but know that I'm not just some inactive nerd with an inactive blog. Something is happening. I know that empty promises are abound in the gaming community especially nowadays with open betas and such so I'm not going to post ideas frequently. I have, however, actually made games so it's not like one of these "I want to make a game... SOME DAY." The idea came to me... quite a while ago actually. Before the Great Dataclysm actually. Imagine... a tactical roguelike. Mystery Dungeon meets Fire Emblem. The clash of Hapori Tohu and Hapori Dume. Inhabitants, Denizens, Sages, Guardians, and Titans in a battle against the collapsing structure of a virtual world.
     
    I'm not interested in recruiting anybody yet but keep an eye out. I'll have some screenshots posted soon... I'm in the midst of a pretty major game and running a zine, so this BZP thing is sort of just a side-pet project. I will, however, be recruiting 3d artists, voice actors, programmers, etc.
