  1. hmm...

I would say the Mask of Probability, since it has the power to alter probability. Ex. If you have a 0% chance of winning a battle, you could change that to a 100% chance and win.

Anyone else got any masks they think are overpowered?

Mask of Possibilities makes stuff more likely or less likely to happen, yet I think it only concerns random events, and can't be used to "persuade" people to lose or die. It probably doesn't reach 100% either.

Mask of teleportation you can teleport whenever someone attacks you and creation too

Although disengaging from combat to ambush again is very useful, any sort of stealth attack would make this power useless (in combat), since you don't know when to escape.

The Mask of Creation relies on having the materials at hand, so you couldn't create everything.

The Mohtrek allows the user to summon multiple past versions of themselves. For a Makuta to do that, it would mean that you now have multiple versions of a single telepathic being, all of which can use different powers at the same time.

The Olmak allows the user to walk between space at will, with virtually no limitation.

The Avsa lets the user suck the energy, life force, and/or light out of a being and feed on it. The Mask of Scavenging does something similar, only it turns the absorbed energy into strength and power for the user to wield later on.

And that's not even considering the three Legendary masks. One with the power to bend Time, another to command every aspect of Life, and one that can either teach you how to build anything, or will create whatever your heart desires if you give it the instructions.

The Mohtrek gives you random injuries from the future though, which maybe isn't worth it...

The Olmak is VERY useful, but unless you painstakingly make an army of shadow takanuva, it's not unstoppable.

The Avsa is useless against a being with no light energy.

The Vahi would be amazingly overpowered, if it weren't so difficult to control.

The Ignika curses people and messes stuff up for it's own entertainment, so using it would not be too good.

    The Mask of Ultimate Power. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

If ultimate power is being in a coma, sure.

    Telekinesis.

    Fortunately, Toa have moral scruples.

The Mask of Tossing Stuff with your Mind? Just use any sort of stealth/speed power to out maneuvre them.

Along from the Olmak and Mohtrek, I'd also say the Tryna and Faxon. The Tryna can just keep reanimating dead bodies no matter how many times they've been "killed" and the Faxon can allow the user to avoid death as long as they weren't struck with an instantly killing blow.

The Tryna requires constant concentration to keep the corpses animated, so any distractions hinder its usage.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Felnas, the Mask of Disruption. It can (through contact) cause anyone's powers go haywire, and that has been showed to have some very fatal consequences. Sure it has a limit (you have to be close enough to touch and by then you could get hit yourself) but one touch and it's potentially all over.

    *Uses Felnas on Kaukau

Gali can now breath underwater infinitely?

The Felnas depends too much on what you use it on, what if you have no powers?

The Komau also deserves mention because it's mind control. There are so many instances where it's a story-breaking power.

That's a really good point. Remember LoMN? One "Get Nidhiki" from Onewa, and suddenly the Dark Hunters that plagued them all movie are out of the picture. It IS surprising it never got used more often. Even the Noble form could control that giant Nui-Rama thing in the MNOG (did that ever get an official name? Typing "Giant Nui-Rama Thing" into BS01 didn't show any results :P)

    :mirunu: Lewa0111 Nuva :mirunu:

    Komau is useless against robots.

Ignoring the ones already mentioned, the Kakama Nuva is pretty absurd. Not only does it grant ridiculous speed faster than the eye can see to even the slowest Toa, Gali used it to phase through a wall in Tales of the Masks.

The Kakama basically offers intangibility as well, allowing the user to evade any physical object, as long as they expect it. The counters for this are the Felnas, any non-physical attack, or something unexpected.

Umm.... so the most over powered mask probably is... uhhh.... the Huna or Volitak, since stealth and ambushing seem to be pretty useful in a universe full of weird and wonderful powers. Of course, they have their weaknesses, but you'd have to prepare to detect them efficiently.

  2.

Looking at the way it can imitate water, minerals, metals, organic compounds to the point of functional tissue and plant matter, I'd say protodermis is a clear case of unobtainium with a case of "does what the writer feels like it should do"

Maybe protodermis is an element, but can easily change it's protons, electrons, etc. and therefore its electronegativity, intermolecular forces, etc. with ease, allowing it to take on almost any form.

A bit of a leap, but it could work.

Well all elements can change states.  Protodermis, like all other elements, has a solid state, a liquid state, and presumably a gas state.  However, while atoms regularly gain and lose electrons, protons cannot be lost or gained without changing the element to a completely different one.  (Hydrogen has only one proton, if it were to somehow gain a proton, it would become Helium).

The fact that it can be shaped into any form is not really a problem, since liquid protodermis is just poured into molds and solidifies to that shape (i.e maskmaking)

As for electronegativity, protodermis would simply have to be an element that has a charge in its most stable ion/isotope, either positive or negative.  This can be changed simply by gaining or losing electrons, which, as I stated before, is a natural and common process.

It's certainly (theoretically) possible (except for energised protodermis), it's just we haven't seen any real substance that behaves like it.

My point with the protons thing is that maybe proton removal or addition is easier than in our universe, and so under our definition of an element, protodermis can change element, which is how it constitutes everything in the MU.

  4. It's a question of whether the body or the mind determines if Velika can become a toa.

I'm going to say yes, as long as Velika (matoran ) was destined to become a toa, because Velika (great being) probably can't.

It would depend on whether it's just "possession" Velika's body, or he shape-shifted into a matoran (the possession idea feels more likely).

  5. Don't forget, there's a huge number of skull spiders on Okoto. The skill level of them wouldn't really matter compared to the sheer number that they could throw at the villages.

A classic military tactic is to overwhelm the enemy with a flood of untrained soldiers. It can easily take out a small squad of highly skilled ones.

There was huge number of bohrok on Mata Nui, and they still planned and strategised.

    Here's a simple explanation: it's a toyline. Calm down.

Artistic license explanation: it's funny. Most of these seem to be made with large doses of cartoony humor in mind (frankly it's a relief looking at how serious Gen1 came out to be).

Storyline explanation: I don't think I have anything yet. There's not really much to go off of, but I suggest you think about the latter 2 a little bit more.

Well, we're here for the storyline in "Bionicle Storyline & Theories".

Strength in numbers. It only takes one for the damage to be done, when it comes to facehugging. It's only the first year, they wouldn't start off with their super powerful, scary, no hope enemies. They're like the Rahi. The Bohrok and Rahkshi of Gen 2 are still on the horizon. We don't even know what's gonna happen for the second wave, yet!

Good point, I was comparing them to Bohrok because of the face attachment thingy, but you may be right.

  6. Teridax would have won a lot faster. And he would have won the battle of Shperus Magna.

No... because the great spirit would have died, and Teridax would find himself ruling over a corpse.

That is a bigger question. It's fairly easy to guess that the Bahrag would employ both Matoran and Toa in cleaning the island, if they were assimilated. But What would happen after the island is cleared? Would the Bahrag release them, so as to put all the Krana back into Bohrok? Remember, they did not bear the Toa and Matoran any malice. They just wanted to do their job. After the Clearing is finished, the Bahrag might put the Krana-wearing Matoran into stasis or release them. There's little else they can do that wouldn't conflict with programming. What do you guys think?

I think they would be transformed into more bohrok (or can only av-matoran do this?).

If that isn't possible, they'd be kept as a part of the swarm.

  7.  I find lightning more appropriate for fire, seeing as lightning is a form plasma anyways. Plus several works of fiction have already associated lightning and fire to be very similar powers.

I'm pretty sure lightning ISN'T plasma, but it CREATES plasma around it by super-heating the air.

And I'd personally avoid using names "gravity", "plasma" and so on.

Sci-fi vibe, that sort of thing.

I like the sci-fi-ness of them, just having fire earth water air makes it too unoriginal.

  8. How about:

Fire - Plasma (because it's super heated gas)

Air - The Green (because Lewa and jungles, you know)

Water - Lightning (rain and storms?)

Ice - Psionics (ice types being intellectually based)

    Earth - Gravity

    Stone - Iron

    What about glass for ice?

Reminds me of when the toa mata fought the avohkah. I think glass should remain a combination of sand and fire.

  9. Consciousness is different to being alive, but yes, I imagine they would have personality, though may be rather unintelligent (the Ignika wasn't exactly a genius).

I guess it might have a similar personality to the Ignika because they are both masks. But then again two humans don't have the same personality and they're both human.

I'm thinking yes, they would have limited control over their own powers. This has been demonstrated by the Avohkii when it shone at who was destined to wear it (unless the Mask of Light film is non-canon?).

I love the idea, but it shouldn't over used if it were ever possibly implemented. Maybe one or two masks that the Ignika "blesses" but regrets it after because they go insane/depressed/eternal pain/etc.

  10.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Bohrok supposed to be a clean-up team for Mata Nui, not anti-bodies for the Great Spirit Robot?

Yeah they are, in fact they're more like zit cream than antibodies.

What if... There were multiple bohrok nests scattered throughout the MU? Was it confirmed that all those Av-matoran went to Mata Nui's face?

If this is true, it could be that the bohrok were an antibody system...

  11. I'd disagree with most people here, and say as fast as you can move on ground. So basically running speed, but that would tire you out faster than walking speed.

I say this because fling with a kadin is very different to flying in a plane. In a plane, you require a runway to take off and land, and cannot fly vertically (without nose diving or pulling up) or sideways (without turning), but you can fly much faster than rolling along on the ground. I imagine a kadin allows you to float in any direction, as fast as you would be able to as if moving on ground.

You could argue that running isn't as efficient as hovering, and therefore you can fly faster for less energy than running faster, but energy is constantly being drained keeping the user afloat, cancelling it out.

  12. I tried teaching my mom once. The results:

Makuta is named the "Moohahahahaha" (after his laugh in the last Bohrok Kal animation)

    Tahu is an octopus

    Bionicle is pronounced BAINONICLE (バインオニクル)

    -NotS

Tahu is an octopus? An octopus? What? How...

I have, yes. I used to drive people away with it (even once lost a potential date due to my habit of nerding out). Then (for personal reasons) I learned quite a bit about Christian apologetics over the course of half of a year. Being the shy person that I am, I never used it publicly unless a question had been asked, using the teachings to better myself.

Now, talking about science-fantasy genres is much easier (and generally less sensitive) then apologetics, so when I draw a Toa or a Makuta and people ask as to what it is, I use some of the skills I learned from Mr. John Lennox, and I give them a basic answer:

"Awh man, sic drawing man! What is that exactly?"

"it is a demonic gas inside of a shapeshifting suit of armor. His name is Teridax, and he controls shadows and god-like powers. ...Its from a modern Danish mythology, its pretty interesting."

Either of the following replies happen:

    1. "Thats bad a-s man. Have any more drawing I can see?" And I hand them my folder; or

    2. "This does sound interesting, tell some more about this 'demon-gas'."

You can guess which of the two is usually done. And btw, I tend to due this with other stuff as well, usually with Star Wars, Middle-Earth, Elder Scrolls and even history (Romans tell such interesting/dramatic stories).

Genius. Beats comparing it to WH40K.

  13. I have two thoughts on the elements in the matoran universe and how in my opinion they could be altered:

    1) Turn sonics into Kinetics. I never saw the point of it being so limited, and by turning it into Kinetic energy, you could retain the sound based powers, as sound waves are just simply movement of air particles or other mediums in the form of a repeating wave. It would also give the user powers like the ability to stop enemy attacks by taking all the kinetic energy from them as they swing their weapons or speeding themselves up and speeding up allies, and these are from the limits.

There is also the fact that De-Matoran would not have that strange weakness to their own elemental and instead could be given a more useful manifestation of their element like enhances speed. The major problems with this is that any being with kinetics elemental powers could absorb the force from direct blows to them and that could easily make a character over powered, however, any user of power like fire, plasma, gravity, magnetism, acid or anything that could damage and disable with direct movement could deal which such a being, The Toa Inika where able to defeat Vezon when he had Kinetic absorption as a power.

    2) Make Gravity and Magnetism one element. Let me explain, the only difference in their powers is that magnetism can attract object towards each other and disable certain electronics. Now Gravity could never disable electronics like magnetism can, but that factor of magnetism potential never occurred in any Bionicle story. Now anyone who studies physics can tell you that Gravity is the attraction between two objects  due to their masses. So any being with gravity powers, and two brain cells, can just disengage a target from the planet's gravity and increase the force of gravity they experience to another object, and watch as the target flies towards the second object and stays attached to it. The only advantage magnetism has in such a situation is that it can give one of the targets a magnetic charge that will last without them focusing on it while the the gravity user in the same situation would have to focus on the target, and this situation is only valid if either one of the targets is made of a magnetically attracted material, like most inhabitants of the Matoran Universe. Final, both Gravity and Magnetism are fundamental forces according to science and theoretically the Great Being could have used what ever power they used to create elemental powers to merge these two powers into one element.

so what does everyone think of my ideas. I don't mind if you think they're good or bad, just as long as you have some reason for your point of view.

Sound and kinetics are only similar on the scale of particles, which Bionicle rarely, if not never, mentions. Furthermore, you could argue heat, and therefore fire, is just vibrations of particles within matter, giving a Toa of kinetics yet another power.

Gravity is only ever used as the attraction of planets or moons in Bionicle, and even though everything with mass has gravity, it cannot be used horizontally.

  14. I've tried with my friends, and it's hilarious because they can't remember any of the names (and they've only seen Web of Shadows)

    Keetongu - Golden epic guy

    Rahaga - Fly-grandpas

    Visorak - Spiders

Teridax's protodermis prison - Red ice cube

    Roodaka - Evil woman

    oohh.. The nostalgia.

I remember trying to teach my mother about bionicle, back in 2002. Summary of the story is she didn't understand it, and for her the bohrok will forever be called 'The Chicken People' because she claims the way their head function works they look like chickens.

I gave up after that. But hey at least to this day she can see a bohrok and remember it as the chicken people.

Chicken people!!! What a fantastic name for them!!!
