  1. I actually watched the end of journey to one and now I can see why Ekimu could turn out to be makuta but we still don't know for sure
  2. And how exactly was the story in 2001 any different? Before you ask, yes, I've read all the books, comics and played MNOG. The only difference is that they gave things non-English names in G1. Aside from a few name differences, 2001 and 2015 is nearly identical in terms of story. Plus, if you were around back then, you'll know that the lore of 01-03 was only really fleshed out in 03. The fact that we already had books and comics in the first year of G2, and JtO in the second means at this point we have more and deeper story material in G2 than what G1 had on its own timeline. I love how the anti-G2 crowd basically can't come up with anything other than "G2 has no/shallow story" when they're comparing it to ALL of G1. Comparing 2 years of story to 10 is more than a little flawed. Comparing the first two years of G1 to G2 is more realistic, and it proves that G2 has the story bit more than figured out. Go read the books and the comics. Or don't. It's not the same. The toa were collecting all 6 of their great masks, not golden versions of their own. Also they were battling rahi and other things more dangerous than "skull spiderz"
  3. I know I shared a lot of negativity about the new bionicle but I'll be honest when I say I don't want it to end yet--not like this.
  4. I used to think the matoran universe islands where on the ocean surface I had no idea they were inside of him so you can bet I was pretty shocked when I realized it finally
  5. Yeah, me too! The "You are not the first Toa!" Thing, you bet I was freaking out since I followed the story through the comics and online
  6. I went to walmart today and there were absolutely no bionicle sets. It really could be the end.
  7. Actually it was Canon before Canon so Plus I enjoyed the idea that the Toa were feared, as it gives the story a mythological feel while developing the toa as characters, I always used to think the Toa were evil Judy as they were good. Shadow is just as much a part of them as light.
  8. @Aanchir but they are doing an awful job of it. The villagers in the first story more or less gave the toa something to be fighting for, these individuals living on the island. Without the villagers of the first story it would not have been so fleshed out it would have been a roboriders or slizer story.
  9. Hey Bz I just wanted to ask everyone, what was your most mind blowing bionicle moment? It can be from the story, the video games, movies, etc. One of the most awesome and mind blowing moments was watching the cutscenes from the ending of the MNOG, most noting the Toa Kaita, and then the battle against makuta and then the ending where the bohrok awakened. I remember as a kid it was the most fascinating thing I had seen and it kept me in wonder and mystery for years. Even now it's completely mind blowing to watch again. So tell me what you think was really most mind blowing to you?
  10. I'm sure it's not doing THAT bad... I can see it going on for another year or two at the very least. Though I'll admit maybe bionicle could have been executed differently, but what done is done hopefully bionicle will get even more interesting in the coming future!
  11. Hmmmmmmmmm. Well, I suppose I don't give G2 the credit it deserves, but we still have a long way to go before the story gets even a sprinkle bit interesting. And I stand by that I love G1 better, not because I was a child back then, but for the fact that it was truly superior in terms of story and world building. At least compared to now. I suppose we don't need to challenge the kids of today with "made up terminology" because I mean that would totally make them not interested, am I right? I'd rather see Skull Spiders and Shadow traps than Rahi or even Piraka. Now before you tell me "there is rahi" I KNOW. I GET IT. The creatures are cool and they are "rahi".
  12. The Toa were revered as spirits that you could say were like gods, in old booklets like the one from the 2001 TGC sets explains that the toa are both loved and feared by them, and that there are many mythologies of the toa, such as when they say it is storming that it is Lewa and Gali's battle. This is pretty interesting.
  13. I mean... Where do I even begin? There are so many cool bionicle sets that I can't just have one favorite! But if I had to pick a few: McToran: Because who doesn't love a free bionicle villager with your cheeseburger? I remember back in that time the matoran from mcdonalds were some of my most favorite sets and I loved their appearances even though they had limited posibility. Muaka and Kane-Ra: My favorite pair of rahi from the first year, they look completely terrifying yet so cool and the functions were some of the best ever in bionicle, and also not to mention the infected masks that came with it. Mask packs: That's right, Mask packs. I enjoyed the crazy design of the box and I have fond memories of going to stores and looking at all the little mask boxes and trying to find the mask of time and the infected hau. I remember collecting the crazy differently colored masks of the toa and it was some of the most heart warming moments of bionicle. Turaga: yes I know, another 2001 set. But the design of the turaga were some of the best designs ever seen, their builds were so simple yet effective, the staves were always so mystical seeing that they were similar to the Toa's tools and also they had six different varieties of mask each turaga so you can customize them however you wish. Some of my other favorites include the Bohrok, Boxor, Toa Lhikan and the list goes on. Also a few of the new bionicle sets from the new generation are not too bad themselves.
  14. Oh yes the Netflix series definitely has cool 3D models and it's great that they actually look like the sets, though I can't much stand the cringe worthy dialogue and scenes. Sure the old bionicle movies had their moments of cringe, but at least they all actually made you care about the characters. Now sure we should be looking at G2 as if it were it's own thing, and believe me I am, and it's still very terribly done. I am also not a big fan of the trope that Ekimu saves the Toa at the end of every year, it's like why even bother with these six imbeciles when the main man in charge is always scooping everyone out of danger. It makes me honestly worry what's going to happen when the Toa actually have to face Makuta himself. Will Ekimu step in for yet a third time and save everyone? It's what it really seems like. I've been talking to a lot more people about this that are not "die hard" fans of bionicle and each will agree from a non biased standing that the new bionicle is just not as good as the original. When I say I don't understand the new story, I really mean that I don't understand why all this hype and excitement was building up for a soggy "simplified" (dumbed down) story. People need to be challenged, especially kids. The old story challenged you enough to try and find out every little bit about their world. The new storyline might have kids wondering "wow these are super amazing and I want to find out everything about them!" Only to go finding nothing but simple terms such as "skull spiders" and then they would go back to playing on their phones. Lego should not have assumed people would want a "simple" story, because I can make as many "simple stories" as I want, all day. And that is why I simply cannot fully respect the new bionicle. The first year had me interested, but that slowly died away while I waited and waited for story details. It's a shame that you have to buy the books to know what's really going on, I remember I knew a lot about the old bionicle story, and I never even read a single novel.
  15. Yes and while that is all fine and dandy, why did I have a better understanding of the story back in 2001 than I do for 2015? Also when you say the fanbase was the hype machine, you're absolutely right. They automatically assumed that we would buy and love the new bionicle so they didn't put forth nearly as much effort, time, or money. And that's a core reason why the new bionicle feels more or less cheapened... The protectors also fill the role of only the turaga, and not villagers. I guess you could say they do, considering each villager and protector all have the same one mask.
  16. Look, all I'm basically saying is that there is just no depth of the story, I mean come on just look at Takua and his life, it was so much more than any of the new bionicle characters, even Ekimu. He was just one simple matoran, but yet he has so many adventures and he meets so many different types of people, yet in the new bionicle the villagers are just generic run of the mill damsels in distress... They all having the same mask bothers me extremely for the fact they none of them are unique. But that's just one thing, you have to factor in more things such as the depth of their world, they need to give you more imposing ideas and values. I don't know, I'm not saying the new bionicle is completely bad because it's not, but they needed to learn this lesson a long time ago. That's why I say that if it's not a continuation then it's terrible is because they built a standard in the first generation and they needed to live up to that standard. Lego tried to hype everyone up as if it was going to best thing that's ever happened... But it was not. I'm sorry if I sound 'toxic' or distasteful but this is just how I see it and I'd like it if it could be taken into account.
  17. Heh well it can't be as flawed as trying to recycle characters from that storyline and then trying to say you're doing it better this time. The villagers are in G2, no distinction, same mask and same "oooh please save us" while matoran from G1 had their own personalities, masks, and skills. Basically now in G2 I hardly feel like anyone's getting saved at all. I just feel like it's a big "ohhh here come the heroes! And now they're killing skull spiders!"
  18. @Jeffrey funny you call illiteracy a disability, yet you forget the target age group of these TOYS. I for one enjoy being able to see where to put the pieces in a new set. That doesn't make me "disabled" it just means kids don't want to have to read the instructions if they shouldn't have to. Not all kids know how to read.
  19. My only wish is that the new Bionicle G2 would be a continuation from the original storyline.
  20. Look, it would be a mind blowing twist, but let's remember this story is for kids now, or at least centered around a child age group. This isn't Metal Gear Solid. There is no major character twist and plus, why give us the theme of good vs. Evil? Because, do not lie to me, that is the theme of the new bionicle. Good vs. evil, not good being played by someone who is actually evil. Now take a look at Ekimu's mask, the legendary mask of creation. It's the "good" mask compared to the more scornful looking mask of control.
  21. @MrSciFi It's not so much that I'm looking at it as an adult as I'm looking at it as a gimmick... Though it is Bionicle, after all and I am one of the many who had been wishing so hard for bionicle to come back, but the story is still young and I expect Lego to have something up their sleeves for 2017
  22. G1 was the best. G2 wouldn't be anything if it weren't for G1. But I feel like that's where they have gone wrong, G2 is living in the shadow of the G1 story. Though hopefully, within the next couple of years, the story may see a change. Though I am not fond of Ekimu saving the Toa every time...
  23. Because without it, the new story has nothing to stand on and also it needs another side of events to happen, besides "The toa are here and now they're killing skull spiders!" NO NO NO they are NOT the same level, and anyone who enjoyed Bionicle back in '01 can tell you there's a BIG DIFFERENCE. Yes there are more names and characters, a story needs a bunch of those though? And Mata-nui had a well fleshed out story and island, even complete with the online flash game and the GBA games. No, they are NOT on the same level. At all. I'm sorry, but 2001 had Rahi, Matoran, Turaga and Toa. That's the most characters introduced in any bionicle arc, and some of the most well thought out sets ever created. 2015 tried to get a huge hype train filled up with passengers only to crash into the pie slice island that is Okoto.
  24. Do not call me toxic or say that I should be banned because I came here to discuss Bionicle so I will do so, but I don't have to be positive just because you are. Believe it or not some people just don't like how the new bionicle is going right now. That's all I'm going to say and again, let's keep it civil.
