    Happy Thanksgiving BZPowerites,

What are you thankful for this time of year?

I am most thankful for all that God has done for me, my family(and pig), and for having this neat little site to let me post my writings!

Gone. Ripped out Monday in less than five hours. Went home, and turned out I'm allergic to the anesthesia, so I was puking sick the rest of the day. Didn't sleep hardly at all last night, and now I'm hooked up on pain killers and can't feel anything.

I guess I could say I'm in a better mood now than I was over the weekend.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be making BZPRPG characters based exactly on Marvel/DC Characters. These types of characters are affectionately(actually, not at all. They are hated pretty much everywhere except on a certain RP site I cannot mention.) known as "Carbons," as in "carbon copy."

My starting character is most likely going to be Daredevil. (Mattew Muridock, perhaps?) Any fan favorites around here?

*Author's Note: I will not be using these characters in the BZPRPG. This is simply for fun. If an interest is expressed in using them, however, I may allow it to happen.

So, I decided, "Hey! I really don't know much about this Bionicle business at all, and dragging myself through a wiki is no fun, so let's go read discussion topics on BZPower! Might be worth it!"

So I sat down and started digging through Storyline, Bionicle Discussion, and so on.....

Good Lord, people, it's a toyline. It's a toy, it's a toy, and will be nothing more than a toy. And you guys are fighting? Insulting each other? Some of this stuff is almost on par with the comment sections of CNN/Fox/NewsSite! That's ridiculous!

You guys can't just sit down and enjoy this, what you have in common, without wanting to fight? I get that there's a lot of people here from different backgrounds, ages, lifestyles, and so on and etc.

But you can leave that out and just enjoy Bionicle. Or Harry Potter. Or cars. Or baseball. Or my personal favorite, coin collecting.

    But really people. Just really.

    RPG:

Turns out describing locations without going, "It's a square. There's some tables. You eat food here. Move along" just doesn't cut it. I hate describing things without life in it.

    Stories:

Is it a custom here to just upvote stuff and never comment? Upvotes don't tell anybody anything except that you "liked" it. LIKED IT WHY? WE WANT TO KNOW JOHNNY.

    Star Wars:

Mega hype. Not buying tickets. I'll see it in a year when it hits the dollar movies. I can't get excited after the mess that was the Prequels.

    HALO 5:

If there isn't some sub-plot with Chief trying to get Cortana back I'm gonna be mad. No, scratch that, I will be glassed.

So read the storyline for Bionicle, 2001-2004(?)....this is what I got from it.

Makuta is jealous of Mata Nui and slips him some sleeping pills, and the island of Mata Nui is supposedly made cold and crops don't grow(wheat? Corn? They don't say.). Anyways, the Turaga, the old ones, get Takua to summon the Toa Mata from the heavens to show up and kick Makuta butt. Turns out falling from the heavens makes you forget everything, even your name.

They recover, they kinda beat Makuta, and then they have to deal with the beetle infestation. Bohrak or whatever, cool in theory. Turns out they are ruled by some queens, and after getting a robot-suit powerup(which they ditched? What was the point again??), the queens are defeated, all is good.

Makuta then released beetles 2.0, they do better, but turns out human greed even works on beetles and they get killed. Toa also get a super-hero upgrade after a quick swim.

Turns out there's gonna be a 7th Toa, and after a ridiculous trip across the island and the introduction of some taller beetles, there's a big fight with hockey sticks and Makuta is defeated for good. Supposedly. Mata Nui is supposed to be woken up or something. I still don't get how Takuanuva is brought back to life. He's the Toa of Light. There's an problem there.

Also, they didn't mention the fact the island is sitting on the face of a giant action-figure??

Or otherwise known as Victory-191 Series.

The premise of the entire series is that the Union actually lost the American Civil War, and the Confederacy existed all the way up to 1945(ish). The point of change, or divergence, is that a series of plans Robert E. Lee created were not captured by Union Scouts in 1862. The plans, Order 191, instead made their way safely to Lee's men, the attack was carried out, and the Union had to surrender.

The series is composed of 11 books, split into one standalone book and three distinct series. Roughly, the books mark the time frame of the 1880's, 1912-1918, 1918-1941, and 1941-1946.

It is a lot of information to digest, and a lot to read, if you don't have a deep interest in Alt. History or Turtledove's works in general. I was pretty much exhausted when I finished, and it took me about 2 months to get through it all with nightly readings.

Was it worth it? I have to say "eh." Some books were better than others. Parts felt rushed, and a lot of it was, I noticed, just repeats upon repeats. A good 35% of the series could have been cut out if Turtledove didn't continually repeat what the character was doing in detail, even though it he had just told you a chapter earlier.

The amount of POVs was a bit staggering as well. I found it slightly difficult to keep it up towards the end. Quite a few he could have just cut out, or used briefly to provide more light on this scene or that.

Knowing a lot about American and World History from 1860-1950 did make it less surprising when any twists came along, but it was an alright plot. Gotta say, the best character was this series' version of Adolf Hitler. He had the most character development from 1912-1945, which was a bit sad.

Overall? I say read it if you like history, but if you don't, don't. I give it a 6.5/10 for the entire series.

God, that was a lot of reading....

Plenty of material in the Toy lore to make fun of, twist, and make ridiculous. Heck, some of it is already pretty ridiculous(Planet gets shattered, into two perfectly sized moons that take all the jungle and water with it? RIIIIIGHT.).

Of course, I am a romantic. If I'm going to write something longer than a short story, I'm going to interject romance into it one way or another(This, coming from the guy that's fallen hopelessly in love with his best friend(and can't even tell her(long story.).). What kinda romantic pairs are popular between the characters? I've seen LewaxGali and VakamaxNomaka(?) with my browsing.

Any good comedies to read anyways, period, while we're on this topic?

Like always. He sits at the door to my room, screaming and crying because my pig won't let him into the room. Then my pig sometimes chases him away to great noise and event.

Needless to say, this makes writing, or doing anything, a hard task.

...and talking to a friend we know. So, I ask him to tell her "Hi." for me, over the mic. He does it, pauses a second, then relays back that she said "I don't like you." Lil bro pauses and tacks on:

"Well, it isn't like that's the first time you've heard that from a girl."

    Ah, family....
  11. FallenAtlas
Ending to a mostly MEH series. Not enough action, just a lot of dialogue explaining that there will be action. Not terribly pleased, but the ending was definitely exciting with the outbreak of the Second Great War(World War II in our history.).

I noticed Turtledove, the author, repeated himself a lot in the writing. Yes, we know this POV Character works in a canning factory, and yes we know she pulls three levers, and yes we know she lost a husband in the war, and YES FOR GOODNESS' SAKES WE KNOW THAT. Could have easily reduced the series from three books to just two.

It does kick off the next series, Settling Accounts, well enough. But whether that punt is a 90-yarder or if it'll fall off the wayside, I don't know just yet.

I don't recommend reading unless you have read How Few Remain by Harry Turtledove, and the Great War Series, and the rest of the American Empire series.

    Be warned, readers!

I have a deep, shameless love for books of all kinds. I have been seriously considering starting my own library, operating out of my room. Could work, I think.

Something I've always wanted to do was post reviews of books, and this blog seems like a great place to do it! Review books, and get books recommendations.

So, BZPower, any books that you've adored that you care to share with the Titan upstairs?
  13. FallenAtlas
Ah, well, I went and did it, I became a Premier Member of BZPower. Why?

Well, honestly it wasn't because of Bionicle. I had no idea what Bionicle was in fact when I first joined here over a month ago. No clue at all. I was told to come here for the BZPRPG, actually. That it was a better RPG to get into; active, semi-friendly, and somewhat competent moderators. Now I can vouch for the first one, but I haven't been around long enough to actually say anything on the last two promises made to me.

Moving on, though, it wasn't the BZPRPG that made me become a Premier Member. It was the community of toy lovers that are here. Nice enough folks, I noted, and I think I would like to see it stay around. So I donated, and got the perks out of it. Fair enough deal.

Onto my actual blog, I need make some stuff clear:

    1. In no way, shape, or form will I be giving some detailed analysis of myself or my personal life. There will be posts about life, but I will not be giving details. I do not exist here and I will keep it that way. You want to know about me? Ask. Worst thing to happen will be that I say "no."

    2. I will not stand for flame wars on my blog, in the comments or otherwise. There's plenty of websites out there where you can tear each other to shreds over petty matters; a children's toy site is not the place. I will shut it down. I don't take kindly to insults flying for no reason, or in fact, any reason.

    3. Please remember, I didn't know anything about Bionicle up until a month ago. My knowledge of it is still incredible shaky. If I make some slip-up regarding the canon, it is because of ignorance, but not willingly.

Otherwise, thanks for reading, thanks for welcoming to this website, and here's hoping we have some good times together!
