Has it been a week? Sorry all! Things have been a combination of busy, weird, and interesting. In personal news, I had my first "formal" interview with an insurance agency in southern Minnesota. It's for an IT posistion, and we both seem very excitied to get involved with the other's life.

Meanwhile, some of you may have heard some rumblings about a new console or two that were coming out around this time. Weighstation Free or something like that, and then this other one. The Wyy? Needless to say, after a frantic running around the mall district in Mankato, I came to the conclusion I had one chance. And so I found myself weighting outside Best Buy with 30 other brave souls overnight. A couple of guys up the line a bit had a small grill and got a fire going. Combine that with about 8 or 9 DSs and enough copies of Tetris and Mario Kart to go around, and the 13 hours flew by. I'm now just about that far into Zelda, and I have to say it's been awesome. The controls are smooth and it's a blast swinging the remote around along with Link. If you weren't able to get one, don't worry. More are on the way, and it's worth the wait.

Classes are all hitting that frantic point as things countdown towards finals. So as is custom, expect little to no activity around the stories and Haven. Sorry for the lack of anything going on, but I've just been bogged down. Three more interviews in the next two weeks, combined with Thanksgiving and finals. If I don't see ya soon, have a great Turkey Day!

Okay, I promise, this is the last time I'll talk about Kardas dragon. Especially now that he's safetly secured and standing proudly on display in my room back home.

Overall, it took about 2 hours or so to put Kardas together. Most of this was spent digging for the smaller joints, and I was partially distracted by the Friday the 13th marathon on Bravo. But never once was it frustrating or overly difficult. In fact, building Kardas got me to start wondering how a combiner model is designed.

Unlike the last combiner I bought (Ultimate Dume), Kardas doesn't look like three sets being forced together. The colors blend well, and the pieces work together to make it look like a dragon. The wings, feet, arms, head... all of it look like this set wasn't just thrown together to use the three sets. I'd almost question if Kardas was built first.

Vezon is my favorite Piraka. I've got the three that came in the Irnakk bundle, and I have to say that Vezon definately stands out amongst the four. His staff, cape, and use of silver give him a fierce skeletal look that just appears more menacing than the other Piraka.

Kardas himself is fantastic. His sheer size makes the set worth buying, but he's also more playable than I had originally thought. He has a decent amount of joints, and can balance in most poses I've put him in. As a tip, his tail can be set up to help balance (much like a real dragon, an added bonus).

Overall, he's definately worth $50. Even if you aren't a fan of Kardas...he's still worth buying as you essentially get one of the two $20 Titans for free. So he's both evil and economical!

I wasn't a big fan of the new fighting system introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Though I've been a fan of the fighting genre, it's usually been as a button masher. That is with the exception of Bloody Roar, where my skills with Xion are significantly honed (especially in the 4th installment, where Career Mode can be abused to make him significantly broken).

However, when my roommate brought home MK: Armaggedon, the idea of a custom character feature was highly intriquing. The downside of this though was that most of the fun stuff (the more unique clothing and moves) were all "locked" and could only be made available by spending Koins earned in the main game. Desperate to actually dig deep into this system, I started the Konquest mode. It's been a few days now, and I'm hooked. Though I don't quite get the Kombat system (aerial fighting...) being able to custom build my own fighter and moveset helps to get a feel for how it works.. And I'm finding this has helped me get accustomed to playing as the "real" characters.

Though I've refined his look to the point that I like, I've still got to pin down the types of moves I want to use. There's a certain style I'm going for, and it's been tough to build around that while still making the moves look believable. Also, I've got to come up with a more clever Bio than the one I've written (yes, you get to write your character's bio too). I can't decide if I want to take it seriously, or just have fun and write a joke entry.

    I'm on the fence between:

"Hybrid arrived at the tournament having heard promises of punch and pie. Upon hearing that this had been a lie, he set out to put an end to those who had decieved him. But by the time he had defeated the last of the 62 kombatants, Hybrid had forgotten what it was he had been fighting for. Armed now with the powers of a god, Hybrid relaxed in his chambers and conjured his own punch and pie treat. It was the finest meal he had ever eaten."

    or

"For Hybrid, the Mortal Kombat tournament had been a means of testing the limits of his power. But as he fought his way through the army of kombatants, he came to realize that these would not be the right group to do so. Now, with Blaze defeated and Hybrid empowered with the strength of a god, Hybrid was faced with only one solution. Using the full extent of his new power, Hybrid turned back time to when he arrived at the scene of the battle. He would once again challenge the finest warriors in all the realms, but this time he would do while using only one hand..."

The first one would remain as is if I went with it, while the second most likely would be written a bit here or there. I like the idea of just fighting for the sake of fighting, but I might change things so that instead of turning back time he challenges the Elder Gods who have watched over the Tournament. I dunno, it's something I'm probably putting too much thought into.

But in summation, MK:A = Fun.

Wii reservations became available today. It started at about 10 am CST, when I was sitting in class. I would've skipped, but I decided I've already used up my leniency on Twins games last week.

Whatever the case, they aren't available anymore. The stores in my area are all out. The local Gamestop, for example, sold out of their 14 essentially before the store opened. Fortunately I wasn't the guy who stood in line for two hours after being told he wasn't getting one...only to go "Hmmm..." like some half-wit when the guy at the counter told me the same thing people had been saying for said two hours.

Essentially, this makes up my mind on the Wii, at least for now. I've put feelers out to see what my odds are of picking one up as a holiday gift. My birthday's out of the question as that's about two weeks prior to release. Unfortunately X-Mas comes about two weeks after the release of Twilight Princess on the Gamecube.

Basically that leaves me from November 19th until December 12th to decide if I want to get a Wii or not. And how I'm getting one for that matter. Otherwise I'm going to run into some hassles with which version I should buy.

Also, I've got a Gamecube that I won't be needing anymore. Once I figure out what I'm doing Wiiwise, that will be available for sale. Don't know if it'll be to Gamestop to make up some cash towards Wii, or if I could make a few extra bucks by selling it used online. I figure somebody out there still wants one of these. If I can sell it to them and save them a few bucks comparred to Gamestop's price, while still making a bit more than the store would give me...I might as well cut the middleman and do that. It's how I swapped my DSPhat for a DSLite.

So I've really only temporarily made up my mind. Fortunately the whole sell my Gamecube thing is still good for a few more weeks. At which point I probably will have to pay them to take it away from me.

American League Divison Series Game 2:
    Oakland A's 5 @ Minnesota Twins 2

For a moment, it seemed as though they were going to do it. Cuddyer and Morneau go back to back...and the Dome explodes. And then the bullpen stumbles, Hunter makes a bad judgement call, and the game is back out of reach.

I've got my fingers crossed that I get a chance to go back there Sunday, but right now I just hope that Radke can go out there and repeat the excellence that Santana and Bonser put out in the last few days. Friday may very well be the last game of his career...
  6. T-Hybrid
Much like KIE, I'm carefully following the events of the last three days of the MLB Regular season. Our teams in a similar posistion. Both are trying all they can to win their respective divisions. I don't know if Houston has the cushion of the Wild Card, but I'm cheering for them just the same. The Twins in the meanwhile...

For the Twins, it's sweep or play the Yankees in the first round. And even then, they have to hope the Kansas City can win at least one game. So, fellow Twins fans, cross your fingers. And throw in some support for the Astros. Because Santana vs. Clemmens in the World Series would be the coolest thing ever.

Updates to Rebirth are going to be quite sporadic possibly for a few months. This is because of a few things. One, I managed to land a new job. It's an internship with a software consulting firm that promises me 20 hours a week and counts towards graduation (at least I think it does). The other (and far larger) problem is my Systems Analysis and Design course.

We've got a semester-long group project that's sucking up a significant portion of my computer time (ER diagrams, Use Cases, programming...all that fun stuff). I'm about a semester out from graduation, so at this point it's basically me putting my head down and charging into the fray.

Thankfully the fic is at a point where it can take a break and not leave too much hanging. The Inuva are close, but thankfully they won't appear and then sit around for a month while I finish up my course work. So stick with it, and keep an eye on the Haven and my Library thread for updates.

When I started blogging on BZP, I didn't really know what to expect for activity. So then it was really a surprise when I began finding ways to blog on something every couple of days. To the point even that I had a M-W-F pattern going. It was working for a while, but today I can't think of anything to blog about. This will most likely remain true until Monday or so, when the Twins playoff picture starts getting a little more clear.

Until then, I'll be away. Patio work is almost finished on the Haven, but HGM's got a while before he's paid off his debt. In the meantime, I'll be watching the Twins/Tigers series and perhaps getting my butt over to a game or two this weekend. Enjoy yourselves!
  9. T-Hybrid
I've gotten a few messages from people wondering when the Inuva fic is actually going to begin, and though I can't promise a date...hopefully "soon" should be a good enough answer.

If you read the Sneak Peek I posted a week or so ago, you'll note that at the time the project was untitled. That sorta remains the case today. And really, I can't write a good fic if I don't even have a title. I have the tagline, don't get me wrong: "Two Minds, One Destiny" or something along those lines. But an actual title for the epic eludes me.

Suggestions are welcome, as right now I'm leaning towards the "Rebirth of Fusion" title I used for the initial Blog entry. I don't know why it'd be "Rebirth" in the context of the actual Bionicle storyline, but it just sounds cool. And I'm a firm believer that one needs to stick with his guns.

As far as when it will start, don't expect anything until after the Epics Contest entry. My sig is busy plugging my entry...which I really should do here. So once the contest ends, and I move the story from it's home in Te Mutunga to a solo Short Story thread, I'll hopefully have some time to start actually writing the Inuva Epic (which seems to now have a name). It also depends how reliable my Internet connection remains. I've been trying to do some general purpose web-surfing, and I'm getting some serious lag/slowdown at times.

But sit tight, I assure you it is coming. And hopefully it won't take three years to finish.
  10. T-Hybrid
I'm writing this entry now, because my Tuesday is going to be hectic, and if you notice the time...I'm guessing my Monday is going to rank up there as well. Moving day is tomorrow, with about three weeks until classes start. That leaves me less than a month to hunt down something that produces income before I get wrapped up in classes during the week.

Today is going to be spent packing, saying my good-byes, and making sure I don't have any loose ends back at home. Loose ends that include the Haven, BZP, and the upcoming (and recently previewed) Inuva fic. I'm not sure what we're going to be doing for Internet, so for the next week or so I may very well not be around. It's probably for the best, the Internet can often draw me in for much longer periods of time than I expected. This is especially true once I get going on some mini-project (the Haven's makeover is such a project).

Speaking of the makeover, I've added a few new blocks. The first is the official Bouncer and un-official mascot here at the Haven: HybridGreymon (aka: RizeGreymon after a day in Photoshop). I don't know if the pic is final or not, as I may add a few touches here and there if I think something needs changing.

The other section is a small memorial/dedication to The Alliance. Included is a link to the Profile of each member. For those that are wondering, I went with Torhu and LtJ as those were the names we had when it formed. They're also the names we know each other as, and technically I'm Torhu Hybrid...so it's all good.

If you're wondering why I broke the Digimon theme for The Alliance section, it's because when The Alliance was formed, Matoro made the astute observation that each of us actually represented one of the original Toa. The custom avatar I had been using at the time was of the Golden Hau. Matoro used the Akaku and also took his name from a Ko-Koroan. Melvin had the Onua avatar, and LtJ of course was Lewa. I don't remember if Rahi Master ever used a Kakama in his avatars, but I doubt he'd have wanted to be Gali.

So there's a little more of the story behind The Alliance. A nice bonus for anyone who stop in for today's entry. Though, I suppose I could give you an even bigger bonus. In Matoro's signature is a banner, clicking on that banner takes you to a thread. In that thread is this post which explains the history of The Alliance.

    Prolouge:

After a few hours of lying on his back, Brutaka had finally managed to get himself to sit upright. Hakaan's attack had drained a significant amount of his power, and the Titan didn't know how long it would be until he would recover. That was, if he could recover.

"How could I have been so foolish. I knew the Piraka to be as trustworthy as The Shadowed One himself, and yet I thought I could enter into an alliance with them." The thought made Brutaka chuckle. "They could barely hold an alliance between themselves."

Looking around him, Brutaka could see the remnants of the battle between the Inika and the Piraka. Zaktan was gone, most likely scattered throughout the depths of the sea. Vezok had disappeared, lost in the chaos of battle. And then there were Avak and Reidak, who Brutaka had seen destroyed by their former "allies". Hakaan...Thok... the thought of those two and what they had done ate at Brutaka.

"Those fools! Once I'm at full strength, they'll pay for their treachery. They will pay dearly."

A firm voice interrupted Brutaka's thoughts. Stepping out into view, Axonn looked down on his former friend.

"Treachery, Brutaka? Odd thing to hear you complaining about."

Axonn rested his axe on his shoulder as he sat down beside the weakned Brutaka. The two shared a brief pause before Brutaka could find the right words.

"You are the last person I really want to see right now," Brutaka groaned. "So take your lie-detecting carcass out of my sight before I decide I'm not as tired as I feel."

To this, Axonn laughed. He swung his axe into the ground, letting it strike right beside Brutaka's head. Brutaka responded by knocking the weapon away with his free hand.

"If you wish to fight me Brutaka, I will comply. Your betrayal of the Order must not go unpunished."

"The Order," Brutaka laughed. "For somebody who's Kanohi knows only the truth, you believe in nothing but lies!"

Axonn grabbed Brutaka by the neck and hauled him up to see eye-to-eye. Looking through his Roden, Axonn scanned Brutaka's face. Brutaka didn't flinch, returning the icy stare.

"Loyalty may mean nothing to you," Axonn spoke through gritted teeth. "But it is the only thing keeping me from killing you where you stand."

Brutaka grinned and swung with one of his hands. It connected with Axonn, forcing him to lose his grip. Brutaka slipped free and lept away from the silver Titan. With a call to his Olmak, a gate opened near his weapon, which fell through and landed in his waiting hands.

"My powers may have been weakned, but they still surpass yours. If this is the time we settle our differences, Axonn, then so be it!"

Axonn nodded and brandished his axe, leading Brutaka to strike his own battle stance. With a cry, the two Titans charged at one another. Axonn landed the first blow, a strike against Brutaka's right arm. Brutaka cried out and flipped his blade to his left. Forced to use his off-hand, Brutaka was put on the defensive, countering Axonn swing for swing.

"Why do you force me to do this, Brutaka? There's no point in defending the Piraka anymore. They've left you to die and have gone to claim the Ignika for themselves!"

"Fool!" Brutaka screamed. "My priority since Day One has been my own preservation! Once I leared of their true intentions, it became clear that allying with the Piraka was my best chance."

Brutaka thrust his weapon forward, knocking Axonn back. With the opening, Brutaka opened a gate with his Olmak and jumped through. Axonn couldn't react fast enough as Brutaka appeared behind him, catching him in the back.

"But now that they've turned their back on our alliance...I have no where to turn! The only person I can trust is myself! And if that means I have to kill anybody that challenges me...Order or otherwise...then so be it!"

Axonn groaned as he turned to block the next blow, but instead found Brutaka standing still. He held his face with one hand, the glow from his Kanohi fading slowly. Seeing an opening, Axonn aimed his weapon at Brutaka.

"You said the Order has been lying to us. You know that's impossible. I have been wearing this Roden for ages, and not once have I detected any falsity in its teachings."

Brutaka could only shake his head, refusing to look at Axonn. Even with the weapon pointed at his chest, Brutaka began to step forward.

"There are lies, Axonn...and then there are half truths. You only saw the what they let you. And now your loyalty to these lies will be your undoing!"

With a cry of disbelief, Axonn let loose a blast from his axe. With a wave of his hand, Brutaka summoned one last gate, enveloping Axonn's attack. Axonn tried to avoid the next gate that opened, but the blast connected. Glancing off his side, Axonn felt the shot tear into his stomach. Hearing a yell of pain in front of him, Axonn looked up to see the attack strike Brutaka in his Olmak. The strength of the attack brought Axonn to his knees and tore a chunk from Brutaka's Kanohi. Axonn collapsed, dropping his weapon. Brutaka remained standing, though he had been significantly weakned by the damage.

"I'm sorry old friend," said Brutaka as he lifted his weapon, "but survival is the only thing that matters now."

As he watched Brutaka raise his weapon to deal the finishing blow, Axonn spat at the ground beneath the other Titan's feet.

"Traitor," he said bluntly. "Botar will have your head."

Axonn could see Brutaka grinning through the crack in the Olmak.

"If the Piraka reach their goal," Brutaka responded, "Botar will be the least of my concerns."

As Brutaka spoke, Axonn's Roden showed the truth behind every word. In the moments before Axonn's death, everything Brutaka had come to know became perfectly clear. Axonn would die feeling only regret, and a strange sense of relief that he would not be around for what lay ahead.

Today's sort of an off-day in my life. The Twins are playing in about five minutes, and I've got some packing to do before the weekend. In the meantime, I've got some fic planning to do, and a bit of money managment to take care of. In short terms, today's entry is just a quick summation of what's going on.

    Fic News:
After a few years, I've finally completed The Alliance. Don't think it's delays are indicitive of what another Epic would go through. I made the mistake of not taking notes of where I was going during The Alliance, so it sorta got lost a few times along the way and I need to take some time to get it back on track. In other fic news, I've entered Epics Contest #5. If you're interested, feel free to take a look at my entry. The requirements for the contest ended up sliding nicely into something I have wanted to do for a while.

    Inuva News:
I've come to the conclusion that the Inuva is a story that must be told. And I've secretly been in the planning stages for the last week or so. What does this mean for you? Well, if all goes well...I should have a sneak peek at the fic by this Friday. If it's anything, it'll be a prolouge. I'm really excited by what's coming together as I'm jotting notes. As things get going, I may post scans of the writings I've been making...making the Inuva Section a potential author's commentary.

    Site News:
My website hasn't been updated in a while, mostly because the system that lets me upload to the campus server appears to be malfunctioning right now. There's some stuff on my home PC that will get uploaded once I'm on campus (as in a few days). The comic has been sorta on a hiatus, as I've been strapped creatively trying to finish The Alliance and brainstorming for the Inuva. Expect it to get kicked off once I'm back in classes...as it's usually there that I get inspiration.

    Party News:
Thanks to those who stopped by the house party on Monday. But whoever it was that used the bathroom last, thanks for not cleaning up. Makuta's still complaining about cheating during Tic Tac Throw, and Takanuva is starting to suspect somebod messed with his Ussanui. The rest went off without a hitch though. Schizo's Pirate Piñata was a hit, Lariska ended up breaking it open and was pleased with the contents. Though she did suggest next time to include some poison with which to dip them in.

Well, that will wrap it up for today's...wrap-up. Stay tuned in the next few days for a potential exciting peek into the world of the Inuva. And also to see if I manage to come up with a title for the dang thing between now and then.
  13. T-Hybrid
Some of you who know me better may be familiar with my weekness for combiners (it was what drew me to Bionicle in the first place).

Well, one major sacrifice I've had to also make in order to pick up a set of Inika (at least when it comes to buying fun stuff) is the quest for the ultimate Mecha.

Anybody here follow Sentai? Because if you do, I'm sure you're familiar with Boukenger's plethora of mecha this season. On the left is DaiBouken, the team's core Mech. DaiTanken (a Mech made up of auxilary vehicles) is on the right.

In the middle is Ultimate DaiBouken. Made up of DaiBouken and DaiTanken, UDB represents the first ever ten-mech combination in the history of Sentai. It doesn't need to be said that I'm drooling at the thought.

PR fans know that Bandai of America has shown a confusing pattern of what it does and does not release here in the states from year to year. It is certain that DaiBouken will be released at the beginning of the season. DaiTaken, however, may never see American shores...and could leave me without the opportunity to score what would truly represent an amazing step in Gestalt action figures.

To complicate matters, pics of the 6th Ranger's mecha have surfaced in the last few weeks. Along with these pics are rumors of an even larger combination (which would bring the total to 13 Mecha). Again, my Gestalt Fan-genes are kicking into double-overtime at the thought.

And just when I thought that wouldn't be enough, rumors surface regarding a "carrier" mech of sorts. Promising yet another combination involving heaven only knows how many of the already existing Mechs. With it's rumored size (we're talking about the size of an XBox, if not bigger), I once again wouldn't be surprised to see it not make the trip along with Boukenger when PR starts up it's new season in the fall.

So right now, I need a number of things to come together:

    1. I need to find a steady, well-paying job in Mankato. So I can get going with the apartment and actually come out of each month somewhat in the black.

    2. I need to hold back the urge to pick up the Mecha. Knowing full well it'd set me back literally a month's rent.

    3. I need BoA to reward my dedication to the line the last 5 years and release all the Boukenger mecha (something they have a bad habit of not doing...except for Dekaranger/SPD).

Pray with me, fellow Gestalt fans.

  14. T-Hybrid
Don't expect too many days of back to back blogging, but I figured since I brought it up yesterday...I might as well shamelessly plug my own site some more.

I've made a few topics about "Randomness Is Funny" in the Off Topic forum, and over the years the site has followed me around the web. Starting off piggybacking off my friend's Geocities account, then moving to his home server...it finally came to rest on the Campus server at Minnesota State.

It wasn't until last year that I really got into the site, taking the time to practice my HTML, using the site as my guinea pig of sorts.

It has since evolved in more than just a dump for the comics I do when I'm bored. It now contains my Photoshop dump, some of my favorite links, and a section devoted to the Twins (via a very nerdly constructed PR fanfic of sorts...humor me on this one k?)

To anybody that has ever read RiF, it's all still there. The navigation has been spruced up with Javascript, Image mapping, and whatever else I decided I needed practice on.

To those that haven't seen it before, feel free to drop in and take a look around. See what goes through my mind when I'm bored out of it.
