As promised, TSC now begins, please read the following very carefully. Lets get started shall we?

Welcome to the inaugural Sanitarium Contest. The theme here is simple, Build a MoC using parts that come ONLY in non playset Bionicle sets. Thats right, no fusion, limited technic, limited system, your parts selection is limited only to Bionicle, and the few scattered system/technic parts available in those sets. I have just not been seeing enough quality MoCs that are solely Bionicle Based. Newer Bionicle parts, such as those available in the power miner sets are NOT allowed.

Prizes will be awarded for first and second place! First place will win a Blue Matatu and second place will win a Troll Warrior lego set!

    Rules are as follows:

    1. Your entry will be put under the microscope very closely, so please provide several angles/pictures of it before entering. I have a reliable set inventory to compare, so if parts that do not belong on your entry are found, it will be disqualified. You may contest your disqualification, and your creation will be given one more review, to ensure fairness. To further clarify this, I will list the exempt bionicle sets(playsets), any parts directly from these will not be allowed.

    Toa Terrain Crawler
    Battle of Metru Nui
    Tower of Toa
    Visoraks Gate
    Visorak Battle Ram
Race for the Mask of Life
    Piraka Outpost
    Lava Chamber Gate
    Piraka Stronghold
    Toa Undersea Attack
    Barraki Deepsea Patrol

    2. This is a freebuild, so you may build anything you like! However you may NOT edit the creation once it has been officially entered.

    3. There will be no 3 part entries. Your creation must contain at least 30 parts at the minimum.

    4. No whining, no complaining, no cheating, period. This means begging for votes when the polling has begun also.

    5. The deadline for this contest has been set for March 31st, this gives you all one month to get something done. If by the deadline there are no more than 20 entries, then it will be extended further. Update, contest deadline has now been extended until April 15th. If by this time we still do not have at least 20 entries, then the voting will begin regardless.

    6. You may only enter ONE creation. This creation may have accessories and the like, but these must attatch to the main creation in some manner.

    7. You may NOT enter previously posted/public creations.

    8. Have fun and please PM me for any further questions or information, or post.

    9. Please post your entry in the following format:

    Entry Picture:

    Topic link: (if needed)

If you have any further questions, you can PM my contest assistants, Ultimate Laka, Ghost Rider, or myself. Lastly, please note that anything here is subject to change if I deem it needed. Now lets get to building!

Entry period has ended, voting will begin soon!

Welcome to the second Sanitarium Contest. The theme this time is pretty straight forward, Build a ground based combat vehicle, with personnel. Your entry must meet the following requirements to be accepted.

    1. The vehicle must be ground based, as in wheels or treads. The entry MUST have wheels or treads and they MUST be used as a means of transportation on the entry. Transformers and/or humanoid vehicles are also fine, the vehicle may also have the ability to float/fly, but remember that it must be ground based initally.

    2. The vehicle must be able to carry at least 2 or more personnel inside of it. This means the interior, the personnel must be able to fit at least halfway into the vehicle. The personnel can be minifigures, technic minifigures, toa/matoran, custom personnel, robots/droids or whatever, just as long as 2 of them fit inside the vehicle, and they are distinct.

    3. The vehicle must have some sort of gun/cannon/laser on it, it does not have to fire like a blunt shooter but it must clearly be a long range weapon of some sort. Catapults, slingshots, anything is game here as long as it is long range.

Lego prizes will be awarded for first and second place, first place will win a Chrome Hau and second place will win either Tarduk, Raanu or a Coast Guard Kayak city set, selected at random!

    Rules are as follows:

    1. Your entry will be put under the microscope very closely, so please provide several angles/pictures of it before entering, any non lego parts found on the entry will result in a DQ. There is no lego medium that will not be accepted here, it can be 100 percent system, 100 percent technic and so on.

    2. Outside of the theme, this is a freebuild, so you may build anything you like! However you may NOT edit the creation once it has been officially entered and you may not steal another persons work.

    3. There will be no 3 part entries. Your creation must contain at least 30 parts at the minimum.

    4. No whining, no complaining, no cheating, period. This means begging for votes when the polling has begun also.

    5. The NEW deadline for this contest has been set for September 25th. There will be NO further extentions.

    6. You may only enter ONE vehicle. This is not up for debate, detachable accessories and the like are fine, but ALL these must be able to attach to the main creation in some manner.

    7. You may NOT enter previously posted/public creations.

    8. Have fun and please PM me for any further questions or information, or post. Everyone will be given a second chance, so if your entry does not fit the contest requirements, you may modify it and then re-enter it at least once. No pressure!

    9. Please post your entry in the following format:

    Entry Name:

    Topic link: (if needed)

If you have any further questions, you can PM me or my contest assistant Distorted.

Credited and esteemed builders are being banned? Others are choosing to leave of their own free will?

This has got to stop, I think some are taking building way too seriously. I know not the reason for this yet, from what I have gathered though it could have been easily avoided. I keep seeing talk of BZP being a "Draconian" society, with no kind of diplomacy or room for discussion. This is bad, very bad. I can tell you all first hand that this is not true. I have had my disputes with the administrators/moderators of the forum and most of the time the main problem is a lack of communication. The higher ups are often left out of the loop, and render judgement too quickly. It goes without saying that most of the community here are at least somewhat intimidated by the staff, afraid that if they speak up there will be consequences, I used to be no different in this aspect. Then I realized the scale of administrative duties here, no matter what there are going to be people who get shoved aside and forgotten.

I have contested things that I thought wrong before, and granted it took time but eventually the matters were resolved, with both ends of the arguement feeling good about it and having closure. I am most disturbed that one of the best young talents out there has been ousted from the BBC contests, while I do not know the details of this I can say that I think this was not the best decision and surely someone jumped the gun here.

Another thing bothering me is not so much the level of competition surronding the BBC contests, but the expectations and the verbal exchanges are getting out of hand. Like when there is the first really good entry of a contest, and right away people are calling it a winner, then later when some more noteworthy entries come forward the same people say "oh its better than that, its gonna win now". This disturbs me to the core, by doing this you are not only setting people up to be let down, you also are insulting the builders who have yet to enter. Popularity is also becoming more and more of an influence toward voters, this is bad.

So please, if you are angry with the leadership of the forum be patient and leave an open window for further discussion. And if you are a staff member please look at the big picture and consider your decision carefully before making it final, surely there is a valid reason behind the arguement. If you consider yourself an accomplished builder then you must realize, even though you pour your heart and soul into your entry, others have also and feel the same way you do about their creation. Think about what you are saying when reviewing or responding to critique and how the one who made it will feel when they read it. We have allready lost enough talent in the BBC forum, please we need not lose more.

The entries are in, all have been reviewed and the time has come for the voting! Voting rules are simple, you are allowed only 1 vote for each poll, and you may vote for yourself, please overlook each entry closely before voting. There will be 2 rounds of voting, one entry from each poll will advance to the finals, as well as a wildcard entry. The wildcard will be determined by the entry with the most overall votes behind each poll winner. At 13 entries, there will be 3 polls, one of which will have an extra number of entries, due to the odd number. 1st and 2nd place will win prizes as stated in the official blog entry, so your votes are important! This round of voting will close on Thursday, April 23rd so you have one week to vote, this entry will be republished at regular intervals also so more votes will come in hopefully. Please vote in the following format:

    Poll A:(your vote)
    Poll B:(your vote)
    Poll C:(your vote)

And now, the polls themselves, each entry was chosen at random to be polled.

    Poll A

    1.Meta Ridley
    2.Malum Redux
    3.Eddie!
    4.Bob

    Poll B

    1.Tembe and Dijon
    2.Horse of the Sea
    3.M22 Nui Rama
    4.Silver Xenomorph
    5.Kikanalo

    Poll C

    1.Green Warrior
    2.The Sand Bat
    3.Treehugger
    4.Fentarik

And that should be it. I would like to thank all of our entrants for making my contest an enjoyable experience, and all of you who have been patient with me. Good luck to all!

4.Which Mistika should I get first?

Anyone have a guess as to the theme? It seems like it has been forever since we had one of these things. Perhaps some speculation will ease my anxious-ness. I would like to see challenging theme, something like, well, anything but a freebuild!

    Maybe build a landscape?

Okay, picture this. A hovercraft, powered by propellers/motors, that floats with magnets.

Impossible? I think not. My plan is to first obtain about 1000 lego magnets (this is the hardest part), then use their reverse polarity to make the hovercraft float. You know when you turn the magnets around and they push off of each other?

To make it work, Ill first have to determine how many studs wide to make the craft, Im thinking at least 6 or 8, that way I can mount magnets on both edges of the underside. Next I will have to build the track, the walls will have to be high enough to hold the craft between them, otherwise it will just fall off. Then I will have to mount all the magnets on the sides of the track, perfectly in line with those on the underside of the hovercraft. Finally I will have to mount motors/propellers on the hovercraft, while keeping it very light as the magnets reverse polarity power is limited.

So am I just plain crazy or do you guys think it would work? In theory I think it could, my main worry is getting enough magnets and maintaining a light hovercraft. If I can pull this off I think it will be the first ever attempt at something like this with lego. I could use any further ideas/help you guys have. I am dead serious about this!

So my order came in today, clear from down under. I guess these were not sold in the US, meaning there might be some rare kanohi in them! Rumor has it that these polybags are the ones you might find the white huna, dark blue matatu or dark red ruru. I want to open them, but at the same time I do not! What do I do with these now, sell them? Open them?

    1. Ballom: Hem'sfar'ta

    3. Veg?: Uni Smaat

    4. Christo: Slicers, Transforms!

Good luck all, voting ends next Friday night, the 16th of October!
  10. CzaR
The votes have been tallied, and only 4 remain! 2 of these people will be winning prizes so lets give each entry a close look before voting, good luck to you all! Please remember that for this poll you can only vote once, and you may vote for your own entry if you made it this far. Good luck to all! The final four are:

    1. Meta Ridley
    2. Tembe and Dijon
    3. Treehugger
    4. Eddie

Eddie made the wildcard by one vote, it was very close between him and the Sand Bat. Voting will be closed next Friday, May 1st so once again you have one week to get your votes in, and I will republish the entry a few times to ensure fairness.

    And the weapon:

What is going on in the gulf? The US cannot handle another oil spill upon our shores! This is absolute madness, its time the president considers alternate forms of energy. I really hope there is not another plume of oil spewing underwater, I really really hope.

Is anyone else needing parts from your BBCC 53 MoC, and not able to use them?

I seriously doubt I will place in the top 3, but at any rate, I think we can all agree we should have some results by now. Call it whining or complaining, I care not, I call it a civil request. I realize the BBC staff has no sway over the lego designers, so I am not bashing them in any form. We all love lego, how about lego loving us back? The customer/consumer is what has made lego the great company it is today!

I was walking to work today, and as I went over the bridge I found several broken kongu inika parts scattered along the road. A foot, a torso armor, some thigh/shoulder armor and a zamor holder. It was rather sad, I thought to myself, how could this happen? Could someone have thrown a perfectly good kongu out the window? I salvaged a foot and the torso armor, I plan on making a battle ravaged kongu revamp with them in hopes of bringing some honor to this disgraceful act.

Lets have a moment of silence please...

So I have been thinking of hosting my own Blog MoC contest lately, I always wanted to do one and my time being a premier member is running out!

Something I rarely see anymore in the BBC forum is well done LARGER scale MoCs. They seem to be one in a million anymore. This entry is not the official announcement of the contest, but I want to see how many serious MoCists here would be interested. There will be some nice prizes, including some collectables (Kanohi, Kanoka, etc) for the 1st and 2nd place winners.

Basically the rules are simple, the MoC must stand at least 16 inches tall and you must have a picture with a precise measurement of it. Also it must consist of no less than 200 (Estimated) pieces, you do not have to submit an exact piece count but I will be looking very closely at all the entries. You can only have ONE MoC for your entry, no cut/painted parts or non lego parts are allowed. You may edit your entry picture but you must also have a full gallery of the MoC available to view also. If by the contest deadline we have no more than 8 contest entries, then I might extend the deadline, or cancel the contest as my premier memberhship might run out before then.

Feel free to ask questions and give feedback, I want this to be a popular and good sized contest, as the prizes will be just as good. If I can get enough people interested, Ill make an official banner and the contest will begin.

Can you spot the difference between the original (Makuta) Kraahkan and the newer (Tower of Toa, Icarax) Kraahkan?

Some of you know allready I am sure, but do not spoil it for those who do not!
  17. CzaR
    Okay, so this just arrived...

Now the box is in very good condition for its age, almost 10 years old now. Should I open it and use its wonderful parts for MoCing, build the set itself or just leave it sealed and let it continue to gain value? I cannot decide!
  18. CzaR
Well, the voting ended in a tie between Primus and Veq, each with 6 votes, Ballom got 5 and Christo got 1, so there must be a tiebreaker now to decide the winner and actual prizes! Voting for this final poll will end on Thursday the 22nd of October! Please cast your votes everyone! Thanks to everyone who voted and entered for making my second blog contest a success!

    1.Primus HTS Octomover

    2.Veq? Uni Smaat

I am getting old people! My plans include going to work for 9 hours, getting home and opening presents, if I have any!

My 18th was so much more fun...

    Update, birthday goods:

First of all, some lego sets!

And some white chocolate/cadbury eggs, which is my biggest weakness!

Lastly, a limited edition Ratchet and Clank PSP with RUSH game!

  20. CzaR
Well I see we have a debacle in the BBC 51 voting. Disqualified entries popping up everywhere. All I can say is the fun-factor of these contests is on the decline. I lost votes due to this garbage, some people I used to respect, I no longer do.

Sad times people, you know who you are and what you did. And sooner or later, so will everyone else.
  21. CzaR
I have been considering this for awhile now, most of the people I have asked tell me no, building LEGO Bricks is not an art, not even if they are of your own custom design.

Well guess what, I disagree. I think it is just as much of an art as painting on canvas or sculpting from marble. Too many just assume that because lego is themed towards children, it cannot be viewed as a real kind of art. What an unfair stereotype, just because they are considered toys. If painting, even with watercolors is proclaimed an art, why not lego! Lego can yield just as much, if not more complexity, innovation and creativity as any other kind of art. Any type of lego medium can be complex, from the most basic of Duplo and Mosaic, which most consider to go hand in hand with art, to the most advanced of Technic/Mindstorms.

So yea, I just thought I would rant about this after being discouraged with people today. Your thoughts?
