like whoever thought this was a good idea.

for once, can't we please just continue a long-running franchise without rebooting it?

Rise of the Machines and Salvation were pretty bad, but really, does it need a full-on reboot? couldn't they do what the Child's Play franchise (not the best example, I know) is doing and just disregard those movies and do a faithful sequel with a similar tone and style to the first two?

is a new band made up of members of Detroit hardcore punk band The Armed and they just released their self-titled debut album for free download (high quality with digital booklet!) and it is seriously one of the best things I have heard this year like you don't even know. so good.

it's looking like I very possibly will be able to go?

and if I do, and if circumstances work out the way they look, then I'm actually pretty excited.

no guarantees though. still haven't worked out the details and it's possible things might change.

EDIT: officially confirmed for Brickfair! I still have to make the necessary arrangements but YEAH, so far as permission and stuff goes I'm totally set.

when Nine Inch Nails announced Hesitation Marks earlier this month, my first thought was literally "the only way this year can get any better is if Katatonia releases something new, and since they just had an album last year I know that's not gonna happen".

boy, am I glad to be wrong.

    two albums. one day. 09/03/13.

Pain Is Beauty - Chelsea Wolfe
third standard studio album from the gothic alternative singer-songwriter, promises to have more electronic and industrial elements along with her trademark dark blend of folk, experimental music, and trace elements of doom metal. absolutely psyched for this release, especially considering her previous album Apokalypsis is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Hesitation Marks - Nine Inch Nails
speaking of all-time favorite albums, the new NIN is looking more and more like a throwback to the wonderful Downward Spiral era of the act's history, utilizing the same graphic designer who did the all of the artwork for that release as well as reusing the Downward Spiral-style typeface and lettering on the cover of Hesitation Marks' first single, "Came Back Haunted". really enjoying that single as well, especially because it reminds me of a fusion between the more accessible moments of The Downward Spiral (which were few and far between) and the catchier stylings of With Teeth (an album that, in my opinion, gets more criticism than it deserves).

so yeah. September 3, 2013. going to be an amazing day.

so completely out of nowhere the BBC has announced that Matt Smith will not be returning for series eight and that the Doctor Who 2013 Christmas special will mark his final appearance as the eleventh Doctor.

this is contrary to what had previously been stated by both the BBC and Smith himself - not too long ago, it had been stated that Smith, Coleman, and Moffat would all be returning for series eight.

    pretty disappointing.

even having been a fan of the books and movies since before the TV series was even a thing that existed, I think I'm growing to like Mads Mikkelsen's portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lector even more than Anthony Hopkins'

the frontman of the Christian metal band As I Lay Dying and the sideprojects Austrian Death Machine and Pyrithion was arrested earlier today after allegedly attempting to hire an undercover cop posing as a hitman to kill his estranged wife.

    yep.

proving once again that he has excellent taste in music, Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski recruited electronic music artist Anthony Gonzalez and his project M83 (whose release Hurry Up, We're Dreaming was my pick for 2011 album of the year) to create the soundtrack for his upcoming science fiction film Oblivion along with Joseph Trapanese (the score composer who had previously assisted Daft Punk on Tron Legacy), and the resulting album has been officially released on CD and digital download as of 12:00 AM EST.

    and it's absolutely fantastic.

if you like movie soundtracks and/or dreamy, atmospheric electronic music I would highly recommend giving it a shot. there's an official stream out there and it's on Spotify for those who like to try before they buy, plus it's currently only $5.00 as a special sale price on AmazonMP3.

for the interested, two tracks (including the spectacular end credits song, which is easily one of my favorite M83 songs to date) via the record label's official SoundCloud:

    - "StarWaves"
    - "Oblivion" (feat. Susanne Sundfør)

the NECA Terminator Kyle Reese I ordered arrived today.

pretty impressed with it overall, although the particular figure I got suffers from an unfortunate manufacturing error where his left foot slants upward and prevents him from standing without something wedged underneath it (such as a penny, as seen in the first terrible photo).

but otherwise it's good, especially for the $9.99 price tag.

100 points to anybody who get gets the title reference

anyway so I guess I didn't have to sneak, but I was in and out of the hospital this evening

it's ok I'm ok everything's ok, I just had kind of a potentially brain-damagingly high fever that refused to go down

they pumped me full of meds and fluids and did every medical test known to man

so far as they can tell it's just some kind of virus that should go away within a few days with the proper medication

I AM SO ANGRY THAT THE WRITERS WOULD DARE TO ACTUALLY DO THEIR JOBS AND WRITE NEW THINGS ABOUT A CHARACTER THAT I OBVIOUSLY KNOW BETTER!

THEY ARE RUINING THE SHOW BY NOT KEEPING EVERYTHING EXACTLY THE SAME FOREVER. I AM SO DONE.

    NEW VOLBEAT ALBUM.

mixed feelings on the title. it fits with their theme and all, but it doesn't really roll off the tongue and it isn't as cool as past titles like Rock the Rebel/Metal the Devil or Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood.

title aside, it's pretty much guaranteed to rock in every sense of the word.

    so color me psyched.

OH. sidenote. just to make this relevant to people unfamiliar with the band. like all of their previous albums, it's being produced (along with Rob Caggiano of Anthrax fame) by Jacob Hansen, who also produced Cryoshell's debut album and all of their subsequent singles.

    just finished watching it

I guess it's to be expected, but it wasn't all that great

it wasn't necessarily a terrible movie, either, it just

the whole thing just seemed very uncharacteristic for L and I feel like they could've done a solo spinoff movie a lot better

like L generally just kind of doesn't go around in public showing his face and getting involved in high-paced action sequences involving bio-terrorists, he's a mysterious and secretive detective who solves impossible crimes entirely from his hideout

if I had to stack it up against Death Note and The Last Name, which I'd give a 3.5/5 and a 4/5 respectively, I think it'd probably get a weak 2.5/5 overall
