    [originally published 3/14/14, updated 6/25/14]

decided to update and republish this, since yesterday I picked up the band's newest album. still missing the Call of the Mastodon compilation of early tracks, but I'll get that eventually.

from the top to the bottom:

    - Remission
    - Leviathan (Ozzfest Edition, sans slipcase which the used copy I got sadly didn't include)
    - Blood Mountain
    - Crack the Skye
    - The Hunter (unfortunately the version with "Blasteroid" censored, which I was unaware of when I bought it)
    - Once More 'Round the Sun

this past Tuesday marked the release of another shameful record label cash-grab Michael Jackson posthumous "album" consisting of songs that Jackson rejected and likely never would've wanted released, updated to modern pop radio "standards" and featuring vocals that may or may not even be the real King of Pop himself.

like anyone who legitimately respected the man as an entertainer, instead of supporting corporate greed and the desecration of his legacy I've elected to use this occasion as an excuse (not that one is necessary) to instead reflect on what I consider the best years of his career, the Epic Records releases of Off the Wall through HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book I.

in doing so I've decided to follow up my previous "album collection" blog entries with one dedicated to the King of Pop.

    (click for larger image)

stack on left, top to bottom:

    - Off the Wall (special edition)
    - Thriller (special edition)
    - Bad (special edition)
    - Dangerous (special edition)
    - HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book I
    - This Is It (single-disc edition; technically a posthumous release, but it was one that Jackson himself had approved and been involved with before his death, so I count it as his final legitimate release.)

on the right is the "collector's edition" released last year of Jackson's 2003 compilation Number Ones. although it resembles vinyl packaging, it's actually an 8x8 digipak housing a standard CD and featuring an 8x8 version of the album's booklet with "enhanced graphics".

I've yet to pick up Invincible - honestly, I've been holding off on it because I simply find it to be a disappointing release. that said, I do plan on picking it up sometime soon along with Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix.

as a side-note, writing this has reminded me that I never posted any pictures of my completed The Cure collection - my favorite band of all time with the largest amount of albums by a single artist I own to show for it. I'll probably do that soon.

following up on what I stated previously, I've finally finished off my Katatonia collection for now. I'd like to get the digipak reissues of Discouraged Ones and Tonight's Decision as well as the For Funerals to Come EP at some point, but for now I've got all of the studio albums in one form or another so I'm pleased.

from the top to the bottom:

    - Dance of December Souls (2007 remaster + Jhva Elohim Meth EP)
    - Brave Murder Day (2006 remaster + Sounds of Decay EP)
    - Discouraged Ones (Century Black US pressing)
    - Tonight's Decision
    - Last Fair Deal Gone Down (Icarus Argentina pressing)
    - Last Fair Deal Gone Down (10th Anniversary Edition)
    - Viva Emptiness (Icarus Argentina pressing)
    - Viva Emptiness (10th Anniversary Edition)
    - The Great Cold Distance
    - Night Is the New Day (2011 Tour Edition)
    - Dead End Kings
    - Dethroned & Uncrowned

one thing to note is that the Icarus Argentina pressing of Last Fair Deal Gone Down is technically no longer mine, as last night I sold it to The Xinlo, pending shipment within the next week. as the recently-acquired 10th Anniversary Edition uses the exact same mastering and includes the same artwork, this previous copy was rendered obsolete in my collection.

I got a picture of my In Flames collection at the same time I got pictures of this, so I'll probably be posting that sometime soon.

    according to Deadline:

honestly this makes even less sense than The Lego Movie did. Minecraft literally has no story. it's a sandbox video game with even more creative limitations than Lego.

that's right, last night I rewatched the original Friday the 13th!

regardless of all the movies and shows he's done or his numerous Hollywood connections, I'll always remember Kevin Bacon as the guy who got stabbed in the throat with an arrow from underneath the bed.

casting Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman/Superman seems like a weird idea until you realize that he's actually the same age as Henry Cavill

if he plays the character anything like he played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, though, I can see him pulling it off pretty well

a fine example of one of those bands that I never really liked much but then one day they just sort of clicked and I became something of a fan

pretty great special but I think people have been waaay overselling it, seeing the Doctors together was honestly the best part of it for me

the story wasn't anything amazing and I thought the ending was dumb

buuut it was enjoyable and certainly not the worst thing Moffat has ever done.

(also for god's sake, can everyone please stop assuming that everyone else has seen it and thus it's okay to thoughtlessly post untagged, warning-free spoilers everywhere? like, I knew several major plot points and most of the jokes because of gifs/quotes/whatever all over Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and here. I've only seen one person, out of all the people I know who have been ranting and raving over this, actually bother to give a warning before posting spoilers. one person.)

I typically never do these kinds of things but some stuff's been goin on recently so yeah

a couple weeks ago I saw a doctor about a cold, and while I was there he took my blood pressure and was very concerned about how high it was and told me to schedule an appointment with my usual doctor to have it looked at.

about a week later I did so and was sent home with a prescription for blood pressure medicine that I now have to take regularly as well as instructions to have lab work done ASAP.

on thursday I went in and had bloodwork, urinalysis, chest X-rays, and an EKG done.

today I received a call from the hospital, who want me to come back in for more tests to be checked for possible liver and heart issues after some potentially problematic things apparently showed up on the tests.

I've also been experiencing some pretty constant stomach problems that I'm honestly kind of scared to tell the doctor about and have looked at, because they line up pretty condemningly with symptoms of a serious health issue that runs in my family and has already affected my mother and second-eldest brother.

on top of that I was recently dropped from the insurance plan I was on and now everything has to be paid for out-of-pocket.

    kinda sucks tbh.

EDIT 12/10/13: I went in and had more bloodwork and an echo cardiogram done. the bloodwork results came back fine, thankfully, but they're still waiting on the results of the echo. should be getting a call about that sometime within the next few days.

meanwhile, last week I had a follow-up appointment regarding my blood pressure. they told me that it was still too high and have doubled the dosage of my meds.

unfortunately the insurance issues haven't been resolved yet, so everything is still being paid for out-of-pocket.

normally I don't go for these "Original Album Series" box sets because they don't include booklets and the discs are packaged in cheap cardboard sleeves, but I found this on eBay and had to get it.

all three of the Sisters' studio albums - First and Last and Always, Floodland, and Vision Thing - plus the collection of early EPs and singles Some Girls Wander by Mistake and the greatest hits compilation A Slight Case of Overbombing packaged together - basically the Sisters of Mercy's entire discography (give or a take a few remixes) for $20 - I couldn't resist.

here's one of my all-time favorite music videos for one of my all-time favorite Sisters tracks, Dominion:

um I never actually started that

but basically brickfair was fun and I met a lot of cool people and some stuff happened like Korra party and laser tag and Nervous Pudding concert

which was really really good btw and you should totally go support them by buying their singles and their album when it comes out (I gave Princess Grr the money for the album in person and essentially pre-ordered it and I also bought a sticker and got it autographed so yeahhh!)

I've been working on revising my list of BZPers I've met and I plan on putting that as a content block but tbh idk who all to add because there were several people I was around a lot but never really formally met or talked to so idk

    but yeah

I'm possibly maybe going to try to go next year?? except I want to drive this time because it's a 5-hour drive and I had to wait that long in the airport alone so

I'll see if I can get a rly cute hat or something and bring it next year k <33

without a doubt the most depressing show on television right now.

last night's episode literally had me sobbing

unrelated: anyone else ever wake up and think "I'm going to buy Michael Jackson's entire Epic Records studio discography" because I did

    coming in 2015.

directed by Zack Snyder, written by David Goyer.

will take inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns.

going to be considered the sequel to Man of Steel.

this has the potential to be either really amazing or really disappointing.

apparently he's the Lego art director whose name was the inspiration for the Order of Mata Nui member Tobduk?

I always knew of him before as the vocalist of the legendary Boston metalcore band Aftershock, which he formed alongside his brother, Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz.

I guess this explains the "Lego, Let's Go!" official promotional music video featuring a pretty neat original hardcore punk song credited as being written by Toby.

    really cool.
