Love it.After Andrzej Sapkowski, George R. Martin is my favourite author who is still alive. My favourite character just has to be Tyrion.-Dovydas

Yeah, I'm fine with that. Morals can worm their way all they want as long as I'm not going to put them in on purpose so I don't seem preachy. Also, Kraggh, I'm darn sorry but Jonestown Bartender is so right.-Dovydas
Like you said about archetypes, morals will worm their way in, too. For example, if you're strongly against capital punishment, your story will include parts where a hero spares an enemy's life and simply imprisons them, or agonizing over a recent victory, wondering if it was self-defense or murder. You'll get your point across either way, but if you try to get your point across, you'll just sound preachy. Even if your main character doesn't align with your personal moral beliefs (which would probably be really tricky to write, but I think I'll have to try it sometime as an exercise), you'll probably wind up creating another character to voice your opinion on the situation.Tom Mc. Israel: I can't begin to describe how I disagree with you. MORALS IN STORIES ARE COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. In fact, it's probable they'll tick off the reader and you'll come across as a stupid idealist trying to shove his thoughts down another's throat. My stories are moralless, written for the sake of writing them, and that's how people happen to enjoy them.-Dovydas

While I generally enjoyed this story, I've had two main problems with it.
... You do mean, "tearing the cable down", right? Besides that, the other main problem is that somewhat, you don't seem to quite emphasize the points of the story with the highest tension and power. Example:As Shasta fell, he caught a glimpse of Rahi tearing the cable apart.
You say this rather casually, as if when you're falling to your death suddenly accidentally saving yourself is a common thing. The way I'd write it is,However, one of the cable lengths had dropped on its face, keeping it from seeing where he would land, and he landed on the Rahi’s back.
You notice the difference? In the latter, it's more sudden, more spontaneous. But overall, I enjoyed the story. The concept of a poemfic is one I enjoyed in particular, and I do hope to see more from you in the future.-DovydasThen, suddenly, deliverance came. One of the cable lengths dropped on the Rahi's face, obscuring its vision and resulting in Shasta landing on the Rahi's back.

Yeah, but those archetypes worm their way in on their own. I agree that it's impossible to have a story without archetypes, I just don't think you should go all, "Right, TVTropes, some page about I trope I generally enjoyed, let's now write a story about it". ... Yeah, I did that once. Kinda cool story worked out, but it also turned out not to follow that trope. In other words, don't intentionally TRY to get archetypes in. Tom Mc. Israel: I can't begin to describe how I disagree with you. MORALS IN STORIES ARE COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. In fact, it's probable they'll tick off the reader and you'll come across as a stupid idealist trying to shove his thoughts down another's throat. Aren't all stories based off archetypes, just presented in different ways (ie: the characters, setting)?Eh, it's darn near impossible to avoid archetypes altogether. I'd say that, while archetypes aren't necessarily evil, don't always try to include archetypes in your stories. No one wants to read the same thing over and over again; the same applies to writing.

Or alternately, try not to use archetypes at all.-Dovydas

So, Dovy doesn't have to do anything since that work of his (which, unlike some people's, wasn't late, aren't I right Skar and a few other people?) ? Good then. Good to see this up in that case.-Dovydas

Well seeing as you're doing this Guys, review (the new version of) Anathain here in COT please?-DovydasYou could post that story as its own topic in Completely Off-Topic. Speaking of stories, would anyone here care to review my two newly-posted original fiction stories whose links are at the top of my signature?

Brilliant comic is brilliant. Discussion over. ... Okay, new discussion. Any fans of ElfQuest prowling BZPower? I chanced upon it randomly while browsing TVTropes, and read it from a site online. I must say, it's a darn good comic, and I do prefer it to any superheroish comics, no offense to Marvel/DC fans.-Dovydas
