Greetings, BZPower fans! As you might guess from the title, I have received the entries for the final round of our MoCist Duels contest! So without further ado, let's begin!

To start with, here is the original challenge:
    ---------------------------------------------------

~ Your MoC must be a re-vamp of one of the Toa Nuva Phantoka (Lewa, Kopaka, or Pohatu)
~ Your MoC may not be a Makuta Phantoka
~ Your MoC must use the original Phantoka mask as the Toa's mask
~ It must be obvious that your MoC is a re-vamp of one of the Toa, but at the same time, it needs to be heavily re-vamped

    ---------------------------------------------------

Like usual, the member who got their MoC in first is presented first. Thus, Roa shall start us off!
Duelist Name: Roa McToa (for real this time!)
    Entry name: Kopaka Nuva
    A quote from Roa:

    It's Solek!
    Why, Hello Solek!
Hop on! I'm ready to fly!
Ooph... Have you put on weight since the last time I saw you... like thousands of years ago?
Wheee! Um... why aren't we moving?
    Up close and personal

    Moving on to DV's entry...
    Duelist name: Darth Vader
    Entry name: Lewa Nuva

I spy with my little eye...

    And there ya go!

It is now time to begin the voting. Please choose one of the above MoCists that you wish to vote for, and say who you are voting for in a comment in this blog entry.

When voting, please keep these things in mind (in this order):
    - Does the MoC portray the challenge well?
    - Is the MoC creatively built and original?
    - Does it look cool/sleek/amazing?

The voting time begins now (Tuesday, July 1st) and shall end Friday (July 4th). I shall post up the duel results and present the Duelist Champion with their trophy on Saturday. B)

    Current scores:
    Roa: 16
    DV: 17

Hey everyone! I have a hankering to start up a blog contest. I have actually had the idea for this type of contest for a while now, but I didn't have a blog to place it in at that time. But know, I do! So, what is this idea that I've got? Here we go:

    BZPower MoCist Duels!!!
So, what exactly would these be? Simply put, they would be a one on one building duel between two of the better MoCists here on BZPower. The contest would work alot like the BBC contests, except that they would be between two members only.

How would they be conducted? Here is a little description:

    - I would post up the contest entry form in a blog entry. This would be the official starting blog entry for the contest. Members would enter the contest by commenting in that entry, and filling out the form.

    - In order to enter, you must have either: a- come in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a BBCC before (the higher your ranking, the better chance to have of getting in the contest), or b- won an official LEGO and/or Bionicle contest from the LEGO Magazine (or Bionicle comic).

    - Once I have all of the contestants names together, I would start up a poll that our members would vote on the two members which they would like to see compete.

    - Once the two final contestants are chosen, then the first round of the duel will begin. There are three rounds. You win a round exactly like a BBC contest, you get the most votes. A contestant wins the duel by winning the most rounds (If one of the contestants wins the first two rounds (and thus the duel), then the duel is over without ever doing the third round, unless the contestants wish to do the next one for fun).

One round would work like this:

    - The host (myself) would present a description/premise of what the members' MoC must contain. I could tell them what to do based on color, piece number, character, a re-vamp, piece type, or even height. I could tell them to build a specific thing, or I could tell them to let their imagination flow, but their MoC must contain certain elements in it (such as piece number limitations, or color) It would be different every time, and they wouldn't know what to be expecting. For example, I might tell them to build a MoC that contains only green, black and silver, and it must be a toa (I might be more detailed than that, but that is a good example).

    - Once I present the necessary elements that the MoC must use and/or portray, then they have 24 hours to build their MoC. As you can tell, this would force them to build quickly and on their feet.

    - Once they complete it, they would them PM it to me (this way, they can't see what the other member has built).

    - After the 24 hours are up, I would then post the two MoCs in my blog as well as in a new poll (providing that the MoCs fit the description/limitations and the rules). The members would then vote on the two MoCs over the next day, and the winner of the poll would win the round.

    - Now, if one of the members doesn't enter a round (for some reason or another) or their MoC doesn't fit the limitations, then the other member automatically wins the round (unless they failed to enter either, in which case I would just to the round over)

    - The next round would start up, and then I would present a new set of limitations.

So what happens when it's over? The winner would receive a trophy (a digital one) that they could then place in their blog/sig, and they would then be recognized as the BZPower MoCist Duel Champion. The trophy image would only be allowed to be used by the current Duel champion. The champion would then hold this trophy until the next duel. At which time, he/she could either come back and defend his/her position, or give the trophy back to be passed on to the next winner. In other words, only one person at a time can posses the trophy (another option would be to have a separate trophy for each contest). I would also need someone to make a really nice trophy image, and if anyone would like to, then please say so or PM me. Any other ideas on a prize?

Now, I realize that many of you guys might be complaining and saying, "But GBG, that's not fair, not many of use have won a contest and thus many of us couldn't enter". I know. That's what the BBC contests are for. I wanted to make a contest that only the really good MoCists could enter. This doesn't mean that the regular members wouldn't be involved. They would vote, and this has a very significant role in the contest. Now, I realize that popularity would play a much larger role in this type of contest than the BBC contests, but I think that that's ok.

So, what do you guys think? I would love any suggestions. Oh, and I would like to get your signature if you think that it would be a good idea. Simply sign your name in the comments of this entry. I would like to get at least 10-15, but the more the better! I think that this could be really fun, but I need to know what you think. Please comment away!

Hey guys! Sorry for the poll getting closed, I just should have read the rules. I have learned my lesson.

However, moving on, I shall now conduct the voting from my blog now. To vote simply leave the names of the two members that you want to compete (Just two please) in a comment. Everything else is the same (see the blog entry before this one).

    Our contestants are:

    Arpy
    Dr. Keerahk
    Darth Vader

All that I'm lacking is his helmet. I still can't find Metus anywhere, so my dad is ordering him this evening. He should be in before next week, which will give me plenty of time for photography (It's spring break!!! )

Aside from the helmet, everything else is pretty much complete in my opinion. His color scheme is as follows: white, white armor, some gray spattering with light blue as his secondary color. In addition, he has some trans/light blue highlights.

He possesses a crystal sword/blade, a white shield which is very Kopaka-esk, and of course a Thornax launcher. His build is an Inika based one, although I have done some modifications to it. The upper arms are 100% custom, and his chest armor is not traditional.

All in all, I (personally) love him. He's fun to play around with, and I'm looking forward to sharing him with you guys!

Greetings BZPower members! I am happy to say that I have received both of the entries for the BZP MoCist Duels contest* round one, built by our two Duelists: Roa McToa and Darth Vader.

As a reminder, the original challenge was this:
    ---------------------------------------------------

    Your MoC must contain:

~ Green (any shade), black (only black, no gray), and silver pieces.
~ Only the above listed colors are allowed. If your MoC contains any other colors than these, it shall be instantly disqualified. This color rule applies to axles, pegs, and bushings as well. Thus, no blue half and half pegs or red #2 axles are allowed.

    ---------------------------------------------------

So without further ado, I would like to show you their creations!

Because she sent her MoC in before DV, I am going to present Roa's MoC first.
    Duelist name: Roa McToa
    Entry name: Haraka
Description: "Le-Kavan tree cat" - Roa
Conforms to challenge Criteria? - Yes

Now in case you are wondering what a WAD pic is, it stands for "Work Almost Done", as opposed to a WIP: "Work In Progress". Anyway, here it is:

This is my first 100% custom torso, and I've gotta say, I like it lots!

It still needs a few tweaks, but it's pretty much done. Oh, and I need a name too... got any suggestions?

Greetings all! Here we have the challenge for the MoCist Duels Contest!

Draco and Arpy, I present to you your MoCing challenge. I need to remind you that there is only going to be one challenge, as opposed to last time, when there were three "rounds". This time, there will be only one.

Also, as a quick note, from now on, there will always be three sections to a challenge; the color, pieces, and theme.

Here are the criteria for your MoC:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Color:
~ Must contain three colors (primary color, secondary color, and armor color)

    Pieces:
~ Must use at least two Kanohi masks
~ Must use a visorak body piece
~ Must use at least three transparent pieces

    Theme:
~ Must build an OoMN member (you can make up one)
~ Must have a gear function
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, the challenge is a bit more complex than the last contest! I did that on purpose, simply because we only have one challenge in this contest.

Ok, the two of you have from Thursday (Aug. 21st) to Wednesday (Aug. 27th). If you have any questions, post them here.

I look forward to what you two shall build!

    ~GBG~
  8. GreenBioGuy
Ok peoples, due to the fact that our Duelists are tied for the Champion status, I have decided to do a mini tie-breaker challenge.

Duelists, your mini challenge is this:
You must build a MoC that uses no more than 20 pieces. You can build whatever you like, just don't go over that limit. Pegs/bushings/axles do not count into the number limit.

You now have until Sunday evening to send in your MoC, but the sooner the better. The actual voting shall last for one day (Monday).

So, get MoCin'! I smell chibiness...

Sorry, DV just brought to my attention that the last vote in the third round was invalid, due to it's being submitted too late. I apologize.

    ~GBG~
  9. GreenBioGuy
The member selection poll for the MoCist Duels contest is now up! Our contestants are:

    Distorted - 3
    ChocoLvr13 - 2
    ~Ballom~ - 2
    Draco Cyanopterus - 8
    Reoki - 1
    -Zip- - 1
    Nara - 1
Shadows in the Light - 1
    ((Primus)) - 4
    Ecto - 3
    The Alchemyst - 2
    ToM Dracone - 5
    Arpy - 7
    55555 - 2

(the numbers to the right of each name represent the number of votes for that member)
    Updated: 8/20/08 10:41 AM (CST)

There are fourteen of you total, but only two of you shall walk compete as duelists! Which two? Well, you guys shall have to decide that for yourselves! Anybody is welcome to vote in this poll. The purpose of this poll is to choose the two members which shall compete in the MoCist Duel. You may vote for as many of the members as you wish, but remember that only two of them shall continue on.

In the case of a tie for 1st place, the two members that tied shall be the duelists. In the case of a tie for second, I guess that I shall just have to post up another shorter poll to choose between them, but it would only last for a day (unless you guys have any other suggestions).

Please place your votes here! You may vote for a maximum of four people and a minimum of two. I will post a separate blog post to keep up with scores. I will just keep up with polls here.

Edit: The polls run from 8/19 through the evening of 8/20.

Hey guys! Well, apparently I received both of these entries sometime late last night. 72 hours is a bit tight, huh duelists?
Anyhoo, We shall now begin with the round two voting...

    Here is the original challenge:

    Your MoC may not contain:

    ~ Any ball sockets what-so-ever

    ---------------------------------------------------

With that said, I suppose that I shall reveal the entries. Draco Cyanopterus, I changed my mind, and I have decided to include the names of the builders in the voting, for several reasons.

DV sent his entry in first this time, so he gets to go first.

It is now time to begin the voting. Please choose one of the above MoCists that you wish to vote for, and say who you are voting for in a comment in this blog entry.

When voting, please keep these things in mind (in this order):

    - Is the MoC creatively built and original?
    - Does it look cool/sleek/amazing?

The voting time begins now (Tuesday, June 24th) and shall end Friday (June 27th). At which time, the third challenge shall be posted and round #3 shall begin. That is, unless Roa wins the duel.

    Current scores:
    DV: 10

Who lowered my blog rating down to three stars? What have I done to deserve this? I demand that you come out and show yourself! And I just got back up to 4.1...

    Not that it really matters.

Thanks, and I look forward to the contest!

I was just barely able to enter! (from my perspective, that is). Normally I'm not a push-it-to-the-limits kind of guy. But then BZPower's server had to go and get busy on me... Anyway, here's my entry!

Yay for mini tanks! I hope to get the topic up sometime tomorrow. Sheesh I didn't have much time for these guys; only two days! Well, I'm satisfied with the result at any rate. The tanks are quite compact and all of the connection points for the liftarms within them are put together in some rather un-conventional ways. Perhaps I can upload some inner-workings pics tomorrow...

It will be interesting to see how this contest goes...

    Until the polls!

  14. GreenBioGuy
    Darth Vader!

I would like to explain a few things first. I realize that it appeared as if the duelists were tied in the last round, but due to and oversight on my part, Roa didn't actually get the last vote, and thus, DV was one vote over Roa!

On that note, I would like to present to DV his trophy ...

There you go! Originally, the trophy was a little shinier and it was all circular, the corners were transparent. Sadly, the process of saving it as a .jpg sortof ruined it. I had saved it as a .bmp, which kept the transparency, but BZP wouldn't let me use that extension. If anyone has any tips for me on saving transparent images that BZP can use, then please let me know. DV, I am sorry, but it's the best I could do.

The purpose of the trophy is to place in your blog. If you are going to do that, then please place the following code into a new content blog (titled whatever you want) Here is the code:
    [center][url="http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=1071&showentry=33711"][img=http://www.majhost.com/gallery/greenbio362/Other/championtrophydv.png][/url][/center]

(It links to the original MoCist Duels blog entry.) You don't have to use this, but I would really appreciate it if you did!

This was a very close contest, and was alot more exciting that way!

In the beginning, I was actually planning on reviewing all of the entries in detail, but I ran out of time and wasn't able to. Sorry.

I would like to thank all of you who participated; without you, this would have been impossible. I am planning on having another contest (another duel) starting in August. In the meantime, I want to know what you guys thought of the contest. Here are some questions that I would appreciate if you took the time to answer (specifically the duelists):

    - Did you enjoy the contest?
    - Would you like to see it take place again?
    - What did you like/dislike about the contest?
    - What would you have changed?
    - How was my hosting of the contest?
    - How did I do on the trophy?
    - Do you have any suggestions for future contests?

Congrats DV! I enjoyed watching you and Roa duel! It was quite fun!

Also, I am sorry for making you have to build more Roa. Even though we didn't finish the tie-breaker, here is Roa's MoC anyway:

    A quote from Roa:

    More pics:
    back view
    belly view
    unfurling wings
    back view with wings extended

Whew! I guess that wraps it up folks! And now, due to the fact that my stomach is growling for breakfast, I shall sign off for now!

Edit: I changed the trophy to .png

Guys and Gals, I am wondering if I should change my user name. I really like the one that I have, but I thought that it would be good to have a simple one or two word name, like Tufi Piyufi, Darth Vader, Blue Diamond or Cajun. ~GreenBioGuy~ is neat, and it seems to roll off of the tongue, but it is also a bit complicated and long.

So, do you think that my name is good the way it is? Or would it be a good idea to switch to a more simple name that is more straight forward (and doesn't have any symbols in it)? I now that my name may be perfectly fine the way that it is, but it might be better if it were simpler. Oh, and I'm sure that you guys would get used to it soon.

If I change, I don't want something too drastically different. I would probably still have a name that had to do with green, and my theme would still be green. I want people to still be able to recognize me! Or, I could switch to some other them. I thought of "Falcon" or "jMan". The "jMan" comes from my real name and the fact that I really like Macintosh. Green Emerald is an option, as would be Green Apple (because I like Macs). I dunno. I'm just thinking out loud.

I am all for your input!

    ~GBG~
  16. GreenBioGuy
No, sorry, this is not a post on the MoCist Duels. Rather, it is a request for some advice.

Namely, how do you make a titan sized MoC stand up for an extended period of time? I am currently in the process of working on a new MoC of mine, and it is very hard to pose. The tough part is that I have given him reverse ankles, and thus his center of balance is a bit off... I guess. So, calling all of you experienced MoCists out there, I need your advice!

    ~GBG~
  17. GreenBioGuy
This evening I've got a little MoC I'd like to show ya.

First of all, however, I would just like to note that I threw this together in about an hour and a half.
I didn't have much of a plan on what I wanted to build here, but my main reasons for making him were:
    1) try out a new shoulder/arm build which I had thought of earlier that day
    2) try out a new color scheme

In other words, this wasn't that serious of a MoC.

I'm planning on getting a topic done up sometime soon, but until then you can comment on him here.

In other news, I bustaficated up all of my MoCs this afternoon (Including the G.B.G.) I left Certavus intact though.
    Why you ask? One reason:

    BBCC #53

I need every spare part I've got. Seriously.

    This.

    Contest.

    Will.

    Rock.

(If they get a good winner)

The prizes will include (most likely) Prototypes
    -and-
who knows what the BIONICLE Set designers will do with the winner!

I've got an idea or two up my sleeve, but I'm gonna have to think on it some more...
In the mean time, I going to sort out all of my freshly available pieces.

Notes (from Arpy): Thankfully, the rules didn't say the gear function had to be original, so I built the torso around a Toa Metru torso. As can be seen in link #1, the right arm can thus be turned. All the other requirements should be pretty obviously fulfilled.

So, um, yeah. Shubiduwahp here has a sword and an arm blade, as well as ultra-linear leapjets on his legs and the ability to fire lazers from his fingertips.

    Moving on to Draco's entry...

(From Draco): I hope the arms count enough as gear functions... And pay no attention the swapped pieces on one leg.

Ok, so I was wondering what you guys thought to changing my name to Samus Aran. Sure, I know that she's a her and I'm a him, but I love her series and character. I know that GreenBioGuy is unique and more... Bioniclish, but I thought it'd be cool to be known as a video game character. Or do you think that I'm already known as GBG the way it is? The thing is, DV named himself after a famous movie character, but on the flip side awesome guys like Blue Diamond and Shan came up with completely unique names for themselves. Note that my aim has never to become a "famous" MoCists by any means, and I'm not trying to attach a name to that. But the thing is, I haven't changed my name once since I joined up here, except for at the beginning when I went from greenbionicleguy to ~GreenBioGuy~. Not that big of a difference. I think it'd be kinda epic, and I could also imprint a faint form of Samus' helmet into my MoC images (like DV does with his photos).

    Thoughts?

Also, I had the inspiration to build MoC after this guy:

    It's Ghor from Prime 3.

He looks very Bioniclish, to be sure. Thoughts there?
I'll have to wait until after my current project (which resumes tomorrow, btw), but I like to think ahead.

I'm wondering how to do my Certavus' color scheme. Currently, I've got a majority of white over light blue with a strategic spattering of trans-blue throughout. I have used as little black as possible (next to zero) and I'm using a bit of gray.

However, I'm wondering: should I use something that I would actually associate with an ice Glatorian (like white and light blue), or should I do something completely different for uniqueness sake? I want to use white for sure, but what about the secondary of color? I thought about dark red, which I think would be super neat, but then I realized that I only own blue Glatorian heads, and seeing as I'm sold on using Metus' helmet as Certavus', I'm kinda stuck there.

My main gripe with using white and blue is that that is pretty much what everyone else is going to do (mostly). But at the same time, that's what I imaging Certavus as being like. He's mostly white anyway though...

    Thoughts?

So far, I love the design (Toa Mata Custom Torso! )! I haven't built a toa sized MoC in so long, it's been pretty fun!

I'm considering either placing a parts order or buying some new sets for summer MoCing soon.

First off, I know that I'm gonna want to finish off my (un-entered) BBCC #53 entry, so I'm gonna need some good black pieces and a bit of lime too. I know that some of the Batman sets would be swell for the system side of things there. As to lime, I can just order that seperately (unless there are some good sets which contain it).

Secondly, I would like to branch out (as you guys have suggested) and do something with no black or green in it what-so-ever.
I would love to do something in either purple or teal (does that count as green?). Also tan would be nice...

    Possibilities:
    - purple/white
    - purple/something else...
    - teal/purple
    - teal/white
    - teal/tan (odd yes, original? I think so)
    - teal/something else...
    - purple/tan (same deal)
    - tan/brown
    - some sort of red/yellow/orange theme (think fire)

I would definitely have to get a bunch of new purple pieces, seeing as the only one I own is my shadow kraata. However, that shouldn't be too hard considering that CzaR got a ton of purple pieces for just 14 bucks.

I also want to branch out an do something other than a humanoid. Suggestions?
I really want to stretch myself out this summer MoCing wise.
I was thinking of doing Slizer re-vamps (no, I don't own any, but I could get them) Of course, that would mean black, which wouldn't be too bad, but on the downside I would be forced to finish my robot first (he's like tieing up all of my good black pieces)

In terms of cost, I will only have 50 - 80 bucks (not bad though). I've just got some other things I'm gonna want to invest in, so... yeah.

Also, for those of you who saw the WIP, do you think that I should ditch my old torso design and start afresh?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Well guys, here is my BBCC #53 WIP pic:

Heh, as is evident by now, I will not be entering.
    Ah well.

See the gallery for more shots of him (they are at the bottom below Certavus)

Please post any thoughts you have on him!

Also, I just need like 2 more votes in the Final Final Certavus Poll to place fourth!

... according to MoCing level, what would you say if I asked you to rate me from 1 - 5? I would have to say... 3.5.

BTW, I believe that I have decided upon the rules for the blog contest, and the starter blog entry should be up earlier on in the week!

Yar, take that you system lover people!

Wait... I was just starting to use system in earnest! *facepalm* Oh, the irony!

Well... due to the fact that I will be gone right up until a few days before the deadline, I'm unsure if I will be able to enter. (though I will try, oh yes!) I'm gonna have to place a larger-ish order from you-know-where in the next few days... Oh, and there will be no green present!

Regardless of whether I can enter or not, I will be very intrigued to see what such builders as DV, Cags, and others will build with the no-system rule in effect. Most intrigued indeed...

    The Dark Red parts:

Sorry for the poor lighting in this last one... :S

Oh, and don't forget that I have this guy to pull parts from too!

Now, I'd love to know what you think! How did I do in what I chose, and the quantities thereof? How about the price (for those of you experienced in these matters)?

Now to work on my first mecha/fusion attempt! Yay!
