  1. This announcement actually triggered me in a much more positively productive way than the first announcement. Last time, due to being emotionally unstable well before the Announcement, I pretty much declared war on LEGO with the vow that Bionicle would come back, a war I ended up losing because of the hard reboot. This time, however, I've gotten my creative juices going and started writing a little series of how I would like Bionicle to come back if it was a soft reboot (which IMO would've been the best move out of a direct continuation, a soft reboot and a hard reboot). It focuses on Velika as the new main villain, and Takanuva (but not Gali, Kopaka etc.) as the main heroes, along with a new team of 6 Toa. I might post it on BZP one day if I feel content (and well-defended knowing certain BZPers) enough.

  2. I'm still working through my thoughts on G2 as a whole, and more importantly how it connected to BZP and my own creativity, but before that...

I want to reiterate a couple things already said upthread by others.  First (like anything!) it's totally a matter of opinion how you felt about G2.  So I'm not surprised there are folks out there who felt it didn't hold a candle to G1 or wasn't "Bionicle" to them, and you're totally free to express that.  That said, I do ask that folks don't rah-rah "the witch is dead" quite so much and/or dump on the teams that made G2 or people who enjoyed it.  It's disrespectful to the work that the teams put in, and it's disrespectful to other members who did enjoy the line and want to express their sadness that it's done with.

I also want to reiterate that quality or passion does not perfectly correlate with sales or marketability.  G2 had its flaws, but acting as though everyone involved in its creation was just lazy or unskilled and therefore of course it flopped is, again, pretty rude towards the teams at LEGO that put their heart and soul into this work as they were allowed to.  While we don't know - and probably won't at least for a while, if ever - how much creative control the teams had, or what direction the higher-ups at LEGO wanted to take things, that doesn't mean that LEGO never cared about the line at all.

Didn't someone famous once say it was tradition for BZPower to criticise absolutely everything? :P

  3. Thinking back to when the original Bionicle got discontinued in 2010-2011, there was a lot of debate about how Bionicle should be if it was brought back, whether it should be a continuation of what we knew, or if it should be hard-rebooted. Some argued a continuation to keep the old fans, while others argued a hard reboot because the original was too complex. In the end we got a hard reboot, and it only lasted two years.

The question I have is, do you think Bionicle would've lasted beyond 2016 if the decision was made to make it a continuation or soft reboot on Spherus Magna instead of the hard reboot we got?

It's times like this I wish I had a Kanohi Olisi...

  4. IMO this would not have happened if it was a continuation/soft reboot and not a hard reboot. Farshtey, being the legend he is, set it up so that it could easily be soft-rebooted on Spherus Magna without needing to link to the 2001-2010 story.

Bionicle hard-rebooting caused me to lose interest very quickly, and I guess I wasn't the only genwunner to feel that way. That said, the Skrall-sized skeletons were awesome and I'm grateful for their existence. Same with the masks of Creation and Control. But frankly that was about it.

  5. It's not unusual for sets to not appear in Australia. For example, we never got the Bohrok-Kal and we never got Lesovikk. We also got the Metru Nui Matoran and Toa Lhikan & Kikanalo late.

But tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Bionicle ended again. LEGO's decision to hard-reboot it instead of continuing the original canon appears to not have been a popular one. I probably shouldn't say I told you do, buuuuut...

  6. Yes, even if means 'Gen 2' is in a different dimension to 'Gen 1'.

I actually thought about that the other day, that Vezon could use his new Olmak powers to escape the Insane Great Being's fortress along with the rest of its occupants, and then have them appear in the 'Gen 2' dimension, Okoto or otherwise.

Or, if there's a 'Gen 2' Takanuva, he could be one of the 100 kidnapped by Tridax to be drained of light, and then rescued by the 'Gen 2' Tahu, Kopaka etc. before he can be locked up.
