    Maddison just left.
    Just like everyone else.
    Brickfair should be 24/7/365.
You all are great. I love you all.

But, also, huge THANK YOU to Nukaya for showing me this Picasa program (who stole their logo from Aperture Science). Without it, I would have to be resizing every image to 800 pixels across by hand, one at a time. With this--click! click! and it's done!

    Be expecting BrickFair pictures soon!

Oh, I guess I better ship these MOCs out...
Also, did anyone notice the mosaic article Maddison and I wrote?

That said, I almost ran out quotes at various points in my blogging career. Nothing drastic, but it made me search out some good ones instead of just coming across them here and there.

So, if you have any good quotes, post 'em here and I'll give credit where I got them when I use them for the QotD.

    Any takers?
Update: Apparently so. Thanks everybody! If I didn't have it already, and liked it (most of which I did) I'll use it! Look for them in about two months! (I have a big list.)

*disclaimer: There is always the chance I already have it or used it, so in some cases credit may not be given.

We had a Warehouse 13 Christmas episode. Same with Eureka. Did nobody think of the potential of a Stargate Universe episode--Christmas in space? (Say that slowly. Like, "Christmas! IIINNNNNNNNN...SPAAAACCCEEE!)

It would have been neat to see the crew get all homesick when someone realizes what day it is. There could be sheepishly-made gifts, some improv mistletoe, and they would bring a tree aboard from another planet and that is when the trouble starts. Some sort of parasite (like we haven't seen that before, heh) or alien is in it. Also, Rush would definitely be a Grinch/Scrooge character.

Mata Nui, with bullet instead of Thornax for some random WAMALUG teenager's reason. Oh well, gives me reason to show you a nice idea with the shield (note: replace the hands with the joints as hands).

Also, I wanted to build something with the green Gelu helmet, so...this.
(Not my best, I know. I feel it sort of has a Glatorian feel to it? With the shoulder armor and Thornax? Too bad I can't enter it into LEGO Mag's contest though, as this seems something they would build themself; but I'd probably still want to touch it up a bit. (I'm still planning on just replacing a Toa's head with a Glatorian thingy. Though I realized there are a few things that make Glatorian distinct--notably the shoulder armor.)

...who, after BrickFair (it happened last year too, and with this current one) thinks that whenever he sees someone out of the corner of his eye there is that tiny spark of "oh hey it's [cool member he hung out with over BrickFair]"? (If, out of that corner-eyesight, a few features seem familiar.)

Or are the rest of you more sane than I am in that regard?

Just another reason why we need a BrickFair City...

With B6 out of the picture for next year's running* (2 year in a row term), it's time to start campaigning now! After all, Arpy's a pretty popular guy, so I'm going to need all the help I can get!**

*I have nothing against B6. He's a great guy. He'll be a good Ambassador again.
**I assume Arpy will want to run, and I don't know of anybody else at the moment. Arpy is another great guy and friend, so if he wins it'll be cool.

In other news, I was sent home early from work today. So I went back after dinner with my younger brother and sister and saw Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, in 3D. It was funny.

So I'm on BZP, and the TV is on to "America's Got Talent." It is basically a big talent show airing on NBC. So I'm watching and typing at the same time. (Multi-tasking!)

*So, my favorite so far was this ventriloquist who was awsome. He had two bird pupets, and he talked himself. But the best part was when he was talking about foreign movies, like Godzilla, where the lips move but there aren't any words, and vice-versa. It was very impressive.

currently there was this really bad impersonator. He did a bad Arnold Schwortsonager (SP) thing, but to make it worse, he insulted Yoda (me if you look at my pic), and tried to do Shaggy from Scooby Doo.

*But afterword, there was this great balancer. Totally Brilliant.

*Then there is this basketball group who were bouncing balls around, and to make it even better, were doing team slam dunks. (using a trampoline) One guy would bounce with the ball, then bounce the ball off the ground and another would bounce and grab it for a dunk. Then this was repeated over with more bounces, and flips!

after that was a guy that played a "nose flute." Probably worse than Yoda-guy.

Oh, there were also some singers, both good and bad. Good: That accapella (sp) group with current style was good, but the lady singing "God Bless America" wasn't good.

I did like that guy with the 25 bike horns attached to him

What I'm looking forward to is any good jugglers. There was already a bad one, but another coming up looks good. As a juggler myself, I'm always looking for good stuff.
OK, this guy just came up juggling really well: 3 balls, then suddenly 4, then 5. Great!

so; watch, enjoy, dislike or go crazy for. I've been looking forward to this for about a month.

A rant on bley. *fears the evil eye from Aanchir*
First, IMO. Please keep that statement in mind and remember that this is a blog based on opinions. There will be a rift and void between our ideas, but I think I can back up my opinion and I hope we can all remain friends and enjoy Lego together.

Now, as some of you know, I have a certain thing about the Bionicle piece color known as "Bley" or "bluish grey." The color that was introduced with the Metruan arms/joints and the Toa Metru joints.

I feel that, frankly from those two character groups, bley came in and took out the other potential color possibilities. Which I why I am saying that bley is an absence of color. In the Toa Metru, Turaga Vakama and Co. had two colors, and then their Toa forms are made and they only have one color. Their other color is bley, being used in their hands and legs, well I'm sure you know. The Metruan also had bley, and I could tell this wasn't the dark grey of Onua and the Rahkshi from before, and I thought it was ugly. So, I didn't like bley because it took up the other color potentials.

I mentioned two things: Rahkshi and other color potentials. From other color potentials I mean that there should be more color in Lego sets. Lego is a colorful group, and I don't feel the attraction when there is little color. (Take Kongu Inika for example. I didn't quite like his full dark build. (Save the small bits of silver.)) I wish Vakama had orange joints, Matau had lime, etc.
As for the rahkshi, I do remember thinking "why didn't they have orange legs and arms, etc. But I think their dark nature made the dark grey (not ugly dark bley), and the coolness of finally having knees, made up for it.
So the Metru, Vahki, and Hordika had bley. I lived with it. I was so happy to see some color in the Visorak!
Now, Reidak and Nocturn had bley, but they were black so it was their color (and by then I had realized that Lego had a color change and we weren't getting the old grey back.). So I am fine with Onua Newva probably being black and bley.

On Kongu Mahri, I bring back my absence of color. He had bley body parts when he could have had bright green (or something else, but I like bright green). On Maxilos, he has bley vahki legs, which could have been (bright) red instead. More color. Or gunmetal, because that's what he also has and Lego has that color in Vahki legs.

So that is why I don't like the Toa Newva's legs and arms, because Lewa should have another color of green (his color), Kopaka should have light bley (because he's had the light grey), and no comment on Pohatu because Lego is changing their Po sets. I don't think the bley helps the Newva at all be colorful and look like good guys. (I really don't like the bley on Lewa. He's a fun, colorful (as in mood) kind of guy and the bley just dampens that. Heck, even gunmetal is shiny, and I though his Inika armor was that at first)

As for light bley, it isn't as ugly as dark bley because having light helps bring out color, or at least isn't dark. (Remember, I want more color)

I think I can stand bley in most MOCs, for MOCs aren't official Lego stuff and are really creative. Bundaling's Pohatu MOC really proves that. It's inspired me to use bley with other color and make something awesome. If the other colors are used properly. I've seen some good bley things.

That's why I don't enjoy bley. In sets. Can't Lego use more color?!?! I'm liking the black on the Phantuka because they are bad guys and black is definitely their color (but I wish Antroz had red legs, because of color)

I have realized there are two sides to this member named "Arpy."

    1) There is Arpy. The random and eccentric person you will find over in his blog.
    2) There is Ean, who comes out when Arpy has had enough sleep. (So, Arpy, Thursday was your weirdest with an hour of sleep.)
It's like A Strange Case of Dr. Ean and Mr. Arpy, or something.

Also, Nukaya and I have this for you, Arpy:

An ancient møøse at the National Museum of Natural History. And if it's not, that is what we want it to be.

And while we're on the topic of DC, I recently said I just "don't get" putting pictures up online, but then I took a cool photo like this and I just might see the appeal and challenge of getting something that looks nice.

A few weeks ago I visited New York City for my first time with one of my best friends! It was amazing in all kinds of ways, but mostly because I got to geek out at various appropriate times and take in sights I had never seen before. It was all pretty fantastic.

Throughout our trip I got to visit many places on my "to do if I visit NYC" list, including... (pictures)
Going into the Times Square Toys R Us LEGO section
Seeing the outside of the [Will Smith alien movie from 1997] building entrance
    Stopping by Midtown Comics
Visiting Forbidden Planet, the amazing geek emporium
Peeking into Obscura, from the Science Channel show Oddities
Going to the amazing independent bookstore Strand (I got a $28 hardback Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio-edited collection of stories for $8)
Wandering into The Way Station, the steampunk bar (I had a Skywalker Margarita) with a TARDIS bathroom (and signed!)
Eating some pork buns in Chinatown
    Strolling through Central Park
    Having some New York pizza

What incited the trip was the fact that our favorite vloggers were going to be "playing" Carnegie Hall Tuesday, January 15. The author John Green and his brother Hank are internet celebrities and have amassed quite a fanbase of "nerdfightes"--enthusiastic people of all walks of life that fight for the nerd and towards various efforts of decreasing "worldsuck" (basically we want to make the world a better, more awesome place, especially one where liking things to a fanatical extent is no longer shunned by popular opinion of what is the "norm"). Penguin Publishers sent the two on a book tour last year when John's latest and most popular book The Fault in Our Stars was released, and this show was in honor of that one-year anniversary. The book has remained a New York Times bestseller since its release.

That was "An Evening of Awesome," and it truly was. Lizzie Bennet Diaries cast members read from TFIOS, The Mountain Goats played some songs, other surprise guests came out and shared the stage, which included Neil Gaiman who said something hilarious not repeatable on BZPower, John and Hank answered questions ranging from life to writing to enjoying life and not "growing up", and Hank sang some songs about Harry Potter, science, and angler fish.

Overall, it was tons of fun and unforgettable!

    -CF DFTBA!
(Total trip (travel, food, goodies, Carnegie Hall ticket) cost me under $200, because we stayed at my friend's counin's place both nights!)

On Friday, May 1, I had the fortunate pleasure of seeing and hearing Neil Gaiman, my favorite author, speak in DC. It was a fantastic evening, shared with Toa Lhikan Hordika, who has also been a fan and is slowly being inducted into more of his works as well.

The format was different than what I've experienced before with author talks. This time around, people could write questions down on a note card before the show. So he comes on stage, giving his usual "Hullo" we all know, holding a stack of maybe 300 note cards. The entire night is just him picking a card and answering it, going off on minor tangents when it suited him and digging deep into his personal experiences to share his world with ours. In that way it felt like we were having a conversation with him, or a very informal interview, in which he's simply talking to us, for us, about pretty much anything.

He even answered my question! I asked what I can say, as a bookseller, to parents that are set on not letting their kids read new and genre-filled books since they're forcing their kids to read arguably boring and uninteresting books (depending on the reader)? His answer ("Ah, parents," he says, and the audience laughs) was to handsell books with a passion so that maybe they'd allow something new to be tried. A good answer, of course.

He had various touching moments, from recounting how many women said Coraline inspired them as young girls to be brave, to speaking briefly about Terry Pratchett and writing Good Omens together. He had advice about writing and living a good life. He spoke of adventures he had even when he didn't realize they were adventures. He made us laugh, fall silent, and take in his every word in only the way his voice can as he pauses every now and then as if choosing his next word to make sure it is perfect.

He also read a few short stories from his new book, the anthology Trigger Warning, and a few pages from Good Omens and then told us which part Pratchett had contributed to. I was especially happy because he read the October Tale from A Calendar of Tales, which is my favorite. It is about a genie who appears for someone who does not want or need anything obtained through a wish, and is happy with their simply life and starts to befriend the perplexed djinn. (The whole Calendar can be read for free online.)

It was unlike anything I've experienced, and even if I see Gaiman speak again it will no be anything like that night. It was an evening filled with humorous, heartfelt, and truthful insight into his life and his books. What a fantastic way to start the month.

(PS, I recommend his books American Gods, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and his comic series The Sandman, for anyone interested in a starting point for his works. And then I recommend everything!)

Could Takanuva bend the light around him so that he would not be seen, in other words become invisible?
I guess that'd be like what The Invisible Woman did in the Fantastic Four movie.

Last year I talked about some famous pirates.

This year, I'll share a pirate-y experience. One of my first ever Lego sets. Big IMO. I remember putting it together with my dad. In fact, I still have most of the pieces, sans figs , but that's ok, as well as the instructions. I might even use the pirate sail in a Toa-Moderator sometime. I plan on using the boat for an airship.

    Ah, the Renegade Runner.

Foolin around with pieces, and came up with this.

And that's just 1/3 feet for a WIP. It'll actually be brown and white, with a hint of silver. And the metru leg will be a brown vahki leg. He'll probably have double knees/bent back knees...what are they called?

I'm still working out the details. I do know he'll have fingers, possibly clawed. One hand will be holding the arm of a toa while a foot is on top of it's waist and sprawled on the ground. Maybe I'll break of a leg too.

So with this WIP idea, I know it's been done before but, I made a Cordak drone.
    With rapidfire!

I have now been with BZPower for over 4 years! That's right, today is my 4th year BZP anniversary!

Let's see, some of my BZP history:

-January four years ago: my first news I saw were pix of the Kal combos.
-I came here almost everyday afterward, including every day to see the next Rahkshi pic.
-On April 18th that year, I joined. (I won't forget the number. I was born on Jan 18th)
-I made various posts and topics and became a normal member
-After a little more than a year, I showed how much BZP meant to me and became Premier

Now, I have grown in my Bionicle/Lego passion, met new people (just look at my list to the right!) and words cannot describe how great this is. My MOCs have become better, I have engaged in various contests, adn the experiences I have had can not be replaced.

    This place rocks!

Well, yeah, 4 years, and here's to another good four and more!

Classes started today. As others have done, I'll list my classes and some details, most likely about the teacher and if any friends are in it:

    1: Accounting

-Teacher says it'll be a hard course.
-Teacher is a little crazy, also says she doesn't quite like Accounting.
    2: U.S. Government

-Teacher is mean in general. That's a fact throughout the whole school even before I got her. This is probably the one teacher nobody wants.
    3: Analysis

-New teacher to the school, but he's experienced with math and was in the army for a while before he decided to start teaching. Hopefully he's good.
-I like math, and I don't think this'll be too bad.
    *1 friend
    4: Physics

-The course might be hard, but I'll work hard. The teacher also gives extra credit.
-Teacher is a little crazy but seems to know his stuff.
    *1 friend
*1 mortal enemy/leech/why won't he just shut up and go away like everyone wants him to?!?!?!
    5: Lunch

    *2 friends, and another aquaintance
*Another friend. We'll see who I end up sitting with mostly. (I have mentioned this friend in the blog before, just so you know)
*Another friend coming in second semester, who will sit with my 2 friends and aquaintance
    6: Creative Writing

-Great teacher! Fun guy, with a fun class. It should be fine.
*1 Friend, and more aquaintances. This is a great class with a bunch of friendly people that we all can be open with.
    7: Religion: Catholic Thought

-I've had this nun before for French 1. She's not too bad, and a good teacher. It'll just take a little work.
-For first semester all we need (as far as books go) are three from C S Lewis!
    8: English (4)

-The teacher is nice, young, and similar to my teacher last year (and friends with her) so there doesn't seem to be a big switch except that the class is a grade higher than last year.
Well, I think that's it for now. We have a Senior Cookout tomorrow (it's 12:05 dismissal all week!) and our first football game on Saturday, against our biggest rival, so I'm definately going!

In case I haven't mentioned it yet...

I'll be at Anime USA on Saturday!

It's an Anime Convention in the DC area. This year it's at Crystal City.
I will be attending on Saturday with some friends.

I think I'll only have about $50 spending money though, if that. At the least I'm going to try to get an FMA shirt. Other possibilities include manga/anime for a good price, J-music, the FF7 soundtrack if Omi tells me how good it it, and there's always those odds and ends that pop up (throwing star, anyone?)

So I got some Manga today, and am so excited that I decided to use this opprotunity to introduce the new category of Anime. (Including Manga, J-pop, and Japanese culture)

The manga I got today were:
    DNAngle 3
    Full Metal Alchemist 1
    Neon Genesis Evangelion 1

So I decided to start two series as well as get the next DNAngle I need.
I also like .Hack. That only has three manga to it (and then books).

On the topic of Anime, I am in my High School's Anime Club. We meet every week and usually watch Anime. We should have themed days for Manga, J-pop, and Cosplaying.

Even better news: I'm on the school newspaper and got to write an article on the club! I basically rocked the paper. (it's not out yet, but the club is really excited about it)

so, enjoy the new section. I'm off to read some Manga!

    Alright, the results are in!

    1) What is (one of) my favorite Lego pieces. (While there are tons of sweet pieces out there, one has been my favorite forever.)
I actually didn't expect people to get this. Since I can remember I've loved to use grille tiles.
Bunda, I don't like Piraka legs (too small a ankle), and yes, xccj, black pins are very helpful, but I don't try to use those in every system MOC I make. Arpy, Bohrok eyes are very useful as well. KIE, I love flames, because until BF06 I only had a few. Then I bought the pack of 56 for $1, and decorated my badge with them.

    2) What is my favorite limb piece to use as legs on Toa MOCs (when not making a custom leg)?
Good job to Kopakalaka (and Bunda). How did you know? Rahkshi legs have that smooth touch and are long enough to make them my favorite Toa leg around. (I'm currently MOCing a Toa Team, and they all have Rahkshi legs in them. (5 are legs. 1 uses them as arms.) xccj, what Piraka arm? I don't mind the right one.

    3) Why do I prefer Mata heads?
Congrats Bunda. He pays attention. "Because they aren't long and sickly," said he.

    4) How are my pieces organized?
Bunda almost got this, "By color, like mine." But Ouch got it more exactly, "in set canisters, by color." Granted, he's seen my collection.... LOL at xccj and KIE. Arpy was just guessing.

    5) Where can you find me (hopefully) Labor Day weekend?
.:Sora:. guessed there was a con going on. Correct. LOL at Bunda and xccj (I'll be sure to keep my distance, xccj.) Arpy, KIE, and 55555 knew about the correct answer, BrickFair!

    Bunda: 3
    xccj: ~2
    Arpy: ~2
    KIE: 1
Everybody else didn't even attempt all five questions.

I guess Bunda wins a cookie!

If I actually cared about either team, I might make an effort to get up and hang out in a friend's room. Eat food, etc.

But after hanging out with tons of [awesome] people yesterday at a Catholic Summit at the University of Virgina (seriously, there were over 400 people. Lots of tun), I really just feel like staying blissfully introverted in my room.

Besides, if I did go over, I'd just bring my laptop and read comics and/or surf the internet, which I can do here in my room perfectly fine without being surrounded by people, most of whom I am barely acquainted with.

And commercials? I can watch the popular ones online tomorrow.

Granted, it would be nice to see a few friends. I guess it wouldn't hurt to go over, have some dinner, and leave if I wanted to...
