  1. I agree. Atakus could be one of the spies, but the blades aren't any form of proof.

The Bs01 page says that the blades were built using technology that was alien to Bara Magna (which is why they glow), but I'd like to point out that the design is exactly the same as every other Skrall blade. Note that the normal Skrall tribal design blades were not built by, or based on, alien tech. They were made by the GBs, as far as I know. My guess is that the GBs were fooling around with some alien tech they somehow got their hands on and copied the design of a weapon type they'd already created. The blades that Atakus eventually found are the result of that experiment.

That's it. Mystery solved. We've blown this whole thing out of proportion when there's likely a very simple solution like the one I've just suggested.

That's what I think, at least. Anyone agree?

Pretty much I think that we're on the same page, but I don't think there was any alien tech that GBs reverse-engineered, rather I just think they got some Energized Protodermis, developed some kind of Protodermis that was still energized (hence the glow) but save to handle, but not quite the the Protodermis we see today. Basically, I believe that it could be a proto-Protodermis weapon that they discarded/lost. :P

Who knows, if they were created out of Protodermis, maybe a Matoran Universe inhabitant could trigger the power of the weapon?

  2. I love the Inika/Piraka build.

They open door to simple creativity and attention to detail that previous sets did not have due to simple lack of articulation points and small size.

Yes, gears were cool, and would be kind of interesting if they were incorporated into the build, but as they were more of a technic thing, and Lego wanted to make Bionicle unique, I understand the choice to stay away from them.

The 2006 and onward style of building sticked around because it worked and was easy to make interesting sets that sold. These sets opened up Bionicle's ability to diversify, provided more room for various colors, and helped develop interesting new functionalities other than gears.

Inika body piece, I salute you.

  3. So the recent talk about Velika's agents started accusing Atakus due to his unique blades, and while that does seem to be a silly reason for him to be the informant, it gave me an idea regarding where they come from.

I think that Atakus' blades are made from some type of Protodermis.

So first of all, it's stated that the blades are alien to BARA MAGNA technology, which we already know wasn't that great when the 2009 story took place. Now when the word "alien" is thrown around, people automatically think that it refers to extraterrestrial beings, but what if this "alien" tech is made with technology that was used to construct Mata Nui and his Universe/World, thus making it alien or "otherwordly" in that sense.

Secondly, it's stated that they were found by, what was thought, to be a Baterra camp. Since the Skrall could have been misguided if this was a camp or not (most likely not since they would've been dead as they were handling weapons), it is possible that the encampment was just an area where the GBs threw away past experiments and tools, or that they simply ended up there on accident. It is quite possible that they were experimenting with making simpler things out of protodermis, like blades, before jumping into creating sentient beings.

Those are the two points I have so far.

    So what do you think?

  4. I have 3 "main" suspects: Tarix, Vastus, Atakus Out of these 3, many people went into detail for Tarix and Atakus, but I feel that Vastus hasn't been really dealt with too much, so without further nonsense...

Vastus: A guilt-ridden Glatorian that seeks to reedem himself for the deaths he caused during the Core War. I feel that his view of the war is probably most similar to Velika's, thus I think that Vastus would be more than happy to establish a new world order where no war would be a problem. Plus, he thinks that defending one's people is the most important thing, how better to do that than allying with a Great Being who pulls strings left and right? As Vastus is a founder of the Arena system, one can assume that his name carries weight, fame and that he is respected by many, so if he were to support Velika's ideology, I feel that many of the people of the reformed Spherus Magna would find the idea appealing simply due to the following and fanbase he's aquired over the years. I guess that argument could be used for Tarix as well, plus the access to the Lab and whatnot.

  5. The topic title doesn't make it very clear, but I would like to see if any Bionicle characters remind you of other characters from different media..

    For example!

The Shadowed One reminds me of Jack Sparrow.

Lariska reminds me of Lara Croft.

Vezon reminds me (obviously) of the Joker and Deadpool.

    Any similarities you've noticed? :)

  6. I just want to throw this out there, but instead of a revival, I would much rather love to see a poll where the top 12-22 (6 small, 12 canisters and 4 titans) characters got sets for a 15 year anniversary and have them come in 2 waves like we've seen before.

The characters I'd like to see would be: Helryx, Zaria, Orde, Chiara, 4 Hagah, Lariska, Kabrua, makuta of stelt, kojol (all in canister), marendar, angonce, 2 large sets with 3 of element lords (all "titan" sets), a kestora, crazy karzahni av matoran, hero agori, a brakas, a protodermis burnak and a wasteland wolf (small sets).

Artakha, Tuyet, Goldilocks, tren krom, and/or annona would also be a fine mix with these. :)

  7. Ive had to tread chairs accross water, while having a weight belt attached to me so I'm not too sympathetic towards them. :P

    Jk

However, you can make that argument on land too, metal plates would have made it harder to move, yes? Well how do they get around that? Protodermis muscles! They are probably better adapted to carrying the armor that they're already used to living in. The armor they wore was basically exoskeleton to them, you could probably compare it to humans having a carbon-fiber-like armor.

If I didn't explain myself well enough, you could just take into consideration that the Ignika turned them specifically into Toa that were capable of fighting and moving around normally in the water. It wouldn't make sense for it to make them waterbreathers without other adaptations then be like, "eyy good luck guys, imma go sink into the abyss".

Also, I don't think any of the Barraki were that greatly adapted at moving underwater, other than maybe Pridak. You can even see in the Barraki and Mahri videos from 2007 that they both factoons move kind of slowish, but not significantly.

I think that's my input regarding this :P

This makes me sad we never saw a Makuta Kaita... I think an AU with a miserix, teridax, and icarax kaita would be most interesting. :P

And by "interesting" you mean "completely dominated by the unstoppable force of three of the most powerful Makuta to ever live". :P

Thank goodness our Miserix, Teridax, and Icarax would never have had the common ground to join together, let alone the force of unity.

    Essentially, yes. :)

I think the Kaita of the beings I mentioned above would be very interesting. If it were formed while the Makuta still served Mata Nui, it would be a very efficient lawkeeper and guardian, but if formed post-Miserix, it would lead to quite a sadistic monster.

Funny how it goes both ways. :P

  9. In regard to your question #2, he basically confirms that Matoran/MU inhabitants can drain power from organic Spherus Magna creatures like the fish we saw on Aqua Magna.

Wait well, if we look at it, the sapient species of SM are made out of the same stuff as the creatures, correct? Kind of like how humans and antilopes are made out of the relatively same mushy stuff inside?

So does that mean that MU inhabitants could possibly drain energy and eat other sapient species of SM?

Could this be why the GBs were so freaked out if Matoran Inhabitants developed sapience and came onto SM?

    Oh dear...

  10. I still don't understand why Mata Nui had to even fight Tuma, he is wearing a legendary Kanohi, THE IGNIKA! All the needed to do was make Tuma touch the mask or something, and do what happens when every other person touches the Ignika, curse them. He could have made Tuma unable to kill any being, like what happened with Dekar.

Mata Nui should have just kissed him on the cheek whole wearing the Ignika, uktimately freaking Tuma out and turning him into a cow or something. :*

  11.

We don't need to know exact numbers or percentages to understand that more recent set, and larger, more recent story role makes Nuparu more memorable to youngsters.

Your understanding rests on the assumption that kids in 2006 had been following the line since 2002. But most kids usually 'grow out of' Bionicle after three years, right? Those who manage longer are a small minority of the overall buyer base. So most kids in 2006 would be getting to know the characters for the first time. Also, the entire Mask of Light and Metru Nui storylines had happened by then, none of which featured Onepu or Nuparu, leaving both characters pretty much forgotten. So it wouldn't make any difference which was chosen.

But this isn't a big deal. I still think Onepu would've been a valid choice, but either way, Nuparu was chosen. If I had to think of a reason for that, I'd say it was simply because they didn't want a third military commander in the mix.

Jaller, an amazing athlete with some serious skills Hewlii, a former military guy who's learning to look at the bright side

Did you get these two mixed up? :P

Now if we were to have Onepu instead of Nuparu, we would lose a valuable aspect to the Inika/Mahri team. Nuparu is an inventor, and his mind is not quite the rest of the teams, so he gives them an advantage,

I don't really see how a Toa would have the time or opportunity to be coming up with inventions.

Onepu is just another overconfident military dude, that can't shut up, to make it worse. Replacing nuparu with Onepu would take away your brainiac, and add a guy who tricks hi friend into doing hi work for him (Taipu). So yeah. Onepu sucks.

A bit unfair. Onepu was responsible for the defence of Onu-Koro throughout the Rahi attacks, came to the aid of the Chronicler's Company at Kini Nui, and also oversaw the evacuation of Onu-Koro during the Gahlok attack. Just because he passed a bit of digging on to someone else (who was good at it) doesn't stain his character.

Now lefs get onto Macku! Oh the adventure-loving, fanatic of Hewkii! Wait what? We all know Macku was Hewkii's "#1 Fan" so, while she has an adventurous spirit like Hahli, it would make for a weird relationship between the two during their adventures.

Yeah, I was gonna say that Hewkii might've made the cut partly to keep him away from Macku and vice versa.

I'm fairly sure all romances had been dropped by 2006. If they were a factor in who was or wasn't chosen and Lego wanted to avoid existing relationships, then how do you explain Jaller and Hahli (something of a couple in earlier years) both becoming Toa?

Macku wasn't chosen simply because she didn't have the prominence Hahli had due to being the heroine of the second MNOLG and having a speaking part in the first movie.

I see the rest of the guys on here covered most of your argumenf, however you are right that Onepu had heroic deeds, and yes I was harsh on him to prove a point, but I think you're missing the fact that we already had a few millitant leaders background personel (Jaller, Kongu) and adding another one would potentially dull down the team's overall dynamic. I could honestly even see some power struggle over leadership if Onepu's boasting personality was thrown in the mix.

As woth Macku, I know that romances have been dropped, however you still had many fans who were quite fond of their romance, and saw it as such in their heads. While I guess you can argue that Hahli and Jaller had a thing, it was never hinted or explored as much as Hewkii/Macku, we only saw some, flirtation, for lack of a better word, in MOL and that was very breif as romances were pretty much decannonized by that time.

And yes I did mix up Jaller and Hewkii a bit where you pointed out. :P

  12. Well we knew VERY little about Makuta in 2001. Back then, we knew he was an evil brother of Mata Nui that put him to sleep, and according to him "couldn't be destroyed for he is nothing", and that enabled the story team to present Makuta as whatever at that point. He specifically picked the form of a Matoran to mess with the Mata's minds, by making them think he is what they are protecting, yet they're fighting with him and so on.

In respect why he picked a Hau, well just look at what Mata Nui's symbol is. The Hau, the Mask of Protection, as Mata Nui is the protector of the MU and savior of Spherus Magna. He shapeshifted his Kanohi Krahkan (spelling?) into the shape of that mask to further mess with the Toa.

You can find more info regarding this stuff on BS01 on the Teridax, Antidermis, and Saga Guidelines pages.

    Hope that helped. :)

  13. I think it just came down to picking characters that would give the team a wider array of personalities. For example:

Jaller - militarry commander, brave strong, leader etc.

    Hewkii - very capable athlete

Kongu - another former military commander, kinda serious, but learned to lighten up later.

Matoro - friendly translator and Nuju's homie, didn't get out very much.

Nuparu - creat creator, engineer and curious.

Hahli - used to be shy, became Chronicler

So with the current set of Inika/Mahri, there is a good array if characters to work with. You have the pure-of-heart leader Jaller, an amazing athlete with some serious skills Hewlii, a former military guy who's learning to look at the bright side Kongu, a very insecure but kindhearted Matoro whos job was more sedentary, arguably the best inventor on Mata Nui Nuparu, and finally the shy girl who developed a sense of adventure after being forced to step up by Nokama.

Now looking at Onepu's and Macku's characters, we realize that they could work out but might upset the balance of the team:

Onepu - military commander, not necessarily the most modest person, overall a character mix between Jaller and Hewkii.

Macku - brave and adventurous, loves hewkii,

Now if we were to have Onepu instead of Nuparu, we would lose a valuable aspect to the Inika/Mahri team. Nuparu is an inventor, and his mind is not quite the rest of the teams, so he gives them an advantage, while Onepu is just another overconfident military dude, that can't shut up, to make it worse. Replacing nuparu with Onepu would take away your brainiac, and add a guy who tricks hi friend into doing hi work for him (Taipu). So yeah. Onepu sucks.

Now lefs get onto Macku! Oh the adventure-loving, fanatic of Hewkii! Wait what? We all know Macku was Hewkii's "#1 Fan" so, while she has an adventurous spirit like Hahli, it would make for a weird relationship between the two during their adventures. Plus, since Macku has always been adventurous and brave, she has less depth than Hahli. Hahli was super shy, barely got out of the hut, until she was forced to and that made her develop into a nice, well rounded adventurer and hostorian of the Inika/Mahri.

That's my two pennies worth on the topic.

  14. He looks really nice! Also nice... hair? It looks like he's wearing an apron. Interesting how he looks mostly organic with that glatorion-ish face. It makes sense.

Haha never saw it as an apron! I thought it was more of a cloak of some sort. And yes, the hair is quite accidental... :P

Very nice, especially for a nighttime sketch.

By the look of him, he kinda looks like an upright goron... With hair.

Given that, does that make him a great being of earth?

Thank you, glad you appreciate the quickness of the drawing! :D

And I'm not quite sure what a Gorgon is, and I'm not sure if GBs have elemental connection? I just imagined him standing in the Bara Magna wastelands during MN's cinstrution reading plans of some sort. :)
