  1. Power: Birth Defects on Ships? That image just made me laugh. This is all theoretic, of course. I might not actually use a parasitic race, but if i were to do so i'd probably operate under the assumption that every race has some sort of brain and/or spinal chord. because, simply put, it might take time upon something like first contact to assimilate an alien, once you've had enough time to do so, the process will only get faster. When you're something so alien to the rest of the galaxy that you have nothing like yourself, suddenly the term "alien" doesn't really apply in a lot of ways.Granted something that didn't have a spinal chord or brain can't and wouldn't be assimilated so that could be an interesting plot twist. And i'm going to go out and say it now, if i were to do this it'd be closer to the flood as far as the assimilative aspects were to go... Maybe Vaguely insectoid for everything else.

  2. I can remember that at several points during the downtime that I thought I should email the admins with some suggestions about work on the forums. At one point, I wanted to say "Just please get the archive up, please put that on top priority" but I kept my mouth shut, because I didn't want to get kicked off of here. I seriously doubt I'm a wonderous exception to a rule.

May I please ask you where you even got the idea from that you may get kicked off the site for saying that? Because quite frankly, I really don´t get it.~Gata. ;)
Hmmm. I don't know, Gata. Let's think. Maybe he got it from seeing all the people getting their proto "zapped" immediately, with no warning. Maybe it was because of the staff habitually punished members for insulting the staff members on other websites. Maybe he noticed how, as Chao Makuta: Dralcax put it, the members are so afraid of the staff that something that would send members on other forums into a rage is met by members sitting on their hands and saying how glad they are that the website was back after half a year. Or maybe he's unnerved by the staff's "Take away areas of discussion forever because a few people messed it up for everybody a long time ago" attitude. Beats me.
Gon' Reply in parts cause this is rediculous.

"Hmmm. I don't know, Gata. Let's think. Maybe he got it from seeing all the people getting their proto "zapped" immediately, with no warning."

I'll be the first person to say that this is absolutely rediculous. To my knowleldge i'm one of maybe three or four people who've had this happen to them for a first time offence, and lets face it, the more offences you have under your metaphorical belt, the more likely the staff are to simply zap you without more warnings. It's the same principle in the RPG forums.

"Maybe it was because of the staff habitually punished members for insulting the staff members on other websites."

Okay, this one's pretty simple. One of BZP's rules is to respect the staff, no? By insult the staff, you break that rule. Even if it's on another website, it's still breaking that rule and, by extension, you can be punished here for it. Just because you break the law in, say, Texas, doesn't mean you're exempt from punishment back home in Washington. Additionally, the key word here is Insulting, because that's a plain out No-no here on BZP.

"Maybe he noticed how, as Chao Makuta: Dralcax put it, the members are so afraid of the staff that something that would send members on other forums into a rage is met by members sitting on their hands and saying how glad they are that the website was back after half a year."

Afraid? Of the staff? Unless you're doing something seriously wrong you have no reason to be afraid of the staff. I'm the last person you'll see sit on his hands if i see an issue i just can't put up with, and yet i've not been protozapped or even warned since my original incident so many years ago. It all comes down to how mature your are with your arguments. Someone who says "OMG BZP STAFF SUCK CAUSE OF THIS" is more likely to be punished than someone who says "I think this is what's wrong and here what I think could be done to change it." If you're so afraid of the staff you're sitting on your hands, there's something wrong. Then again, mayhap that's the part of me that's friends with quite a few staff members, so maybe i'm biased.

"Or maybe he's unnerved by the staff's "Take away areas of discussion forever because a few people messed it up for everybody a long time ago" attitude. Beats me."

This attitude is different than any other? I have personal experience, in real life, with stuff like this. In my school system, parents have complained about things as simple as their children falling in the snow (And i live in Alberta, that means a lot of snow.). Because of the complaints, the school, over time, banned kids from doing certain things in the winter, such as Sliding on ice, sledding, and the like. These rules havn't changed because, simply put, A few people messed it up for everyone a long time ago. Once you've made a ruling it looks extremely bad to go back on it, and can sometimes get you in more trouble than it's worth. So thanks for unintentionally proving my point Zaz, as that whole bit about someone who acts maturely is more likely to be noted and possibly even taken into account - That's kinda sorta directed at you, because the direction you're taking on this in your posting tells me that the majority of BZP members aren't ready for a change of rules. If you can't be respectful and Mature within the confines of the current rules, any future drafts are not going to make allowances for the common member outside of the old rules. Simple put.And here I said i wasn't going to start posting here... how silly of me, I should've known there'd be good debate here...
  3. It depends on how Intelligent i were to make the Hivemind.A basic "Consume All" Hivemind would simply grow the stuff needed, somehow. However it's also totally possible To go the route of the flood from halo, where each assimilated consciousness has it's memories and experiences added to the Hivemind. With a system like that, they could easily assimilate an Engineer, or group of them, and begin work on actual ships. Granted it would take serious amounts of time, but...Idunno, I've been trying to do something new all the time in RPGs lately, Parasitic Races have always intrigued me :P

  4. Thanks for unintentionally proving my point, Lord Kini Hawkeye. First offense proto reduction, no warning. It happens on here.

Had i proved your point, Zaz, i would've made a post agreeing with it. To be quite frank i disagree with most of what you've said, Zaz. In a case such as the changing of rules, i agree more with the admins than anyone, because as a community i don't believe that much of BZP is ready to become less restricted.Besides. I never said the severity of why I was zapped, and while i'd like to think that it was a bit much to be zapped, it's totally possible that the staff in question didn't agree with that particular sentiment. I never argued it, so the only person at fault is me.I can't even remember who it was that zapped me in the first place, but i have nothing against them for doing their job. Neither should you. Just because someone says it was unfair or wrong, doesn't mean it was. That's a life lesson.
  5. I don't have much of an Interest on this topic and i've very barely skimmed, but i'd like to say something on the Topic of Proto Zaps and their supposed "Unfairness," and Rule Changes.Years ago when i was still a new ish member, I ran an RPG called Abyss in Exo-Fats Stead. During the events of this some things happened that i'd rather not go in to, and I was protozapped at the end of them. Not one-hundred percent unfairly, but i wasn't warned and it was a first offence. Am i bitter about it? No, because i see it as both a blessing and something that helped my character on the site. Should i maybe have argued it at the time? Maybe. My point being that just because you hear that someone was unfairly protozapped, doesn't mean they necessarily were. People whine and complain about the rules being too strict when all they've ever gotten is a warning. I got zapped, and i havn't gotten warned or zapped since, simply due to the fact that I've matured to the point where i can accept the rules as being what they are, and i can actively work within them.I guess my true point is that while perhaps the rules will need to be changed in the future as the populace of BZPower grows in maturity, the way a lot of people are acting about it isn't going to get the rules changed any time soon. Maturity is the only way that the BZP staff are going to see that the populace is at a point where the rules can be changed - and just from myself personally reading over this topic... On the topic of rule changing, the maturity just isn't there yet.Feel free to pick me apart like a pack of wild dogs XD

  6. I myself am not trying to ride them on this, just pointing out that when you post an actual RPG idea in the works, people usually react better to it if everything you can add to it is, well, added :Plike I said, i was just pointing it out in an effort to diffuse the whole situation considering how a bunch of people were getting a bit... worked up about it. Or seemed to. last thing we need here is a fight when we can all just harp on the perfectly normal Multi-Post Skyrim RPG currently in the Approval topic :P EDIT: Now on that same not it'd be a totally different situation if it was a "What're your thoughts on a possible MLP RPG?"

  7. It varies; for military roles, a specialty is usually a good thing, but for an entire planet it just doesn't make sense. If there will be World Specializations, I'd like to see one more class; Death Worlds. Planets that, either through environment, culture, or some other factors, have high mortality rates, thus producing the most awesome, hardcore footsoldiers in your empire. The name and inspiration I took from Warhammer 40k, where Death Worlds are commonly the birthplaces of Imperial Guard Regiments or Space Marine Chapters.

Unlike food or production, you don't need an entire world specialization to have a good military force.
  8. Halo didn't operate like that Xom, i know that much.Asides mars (which really didn't matter considering it was industrial and you can have massive industrial plants pretty much anywhere) the Main Agricultural planet in the series, harvest, happened to only be inhabited along the equator. Or, at the very least, that's where the majority of farming was. While there were areas elsewhere that were both farmland and inhabbited, the main area was the equator.Besides i don't see how you don't see an advantage in specialization over Generalization. Aren't you the person who usually hates Generalization?

  9. And so we begin the eternal strategy game duality of Earth and Space strategy.Really, specialization like that, agricultural, luxury, and production, doesn't occur on the planetary level. More like the city level. Once you start having Planets of Hats everywhere, it just goes all Warhammer 40k.

Specializations happen on a city based level as of now, but we're also stuck on this planet for now.Who's to say a race who has access to a multitude of planets doesn't look at one and say "This planet could sustain half of our empire with it's agricultural worth alone. Nevermind with Industry. We'll make a farming planet."Going off of Halo here (yes, i'm a Halo Story Nut) Much of the Colony worlds were specialized. (Mars was Industrial, Earth was Utopian, meanwhile outer worlds with very rich soil were Agricultural and barely bothered with the industrialism that other, less fertile planets were)
  10. I myself, would rather lose awesomely, than win horribly.Throughout my RPG "career" I've killed so many characters off for the sake of the story it's not even funny. In hindsight that's probably why Exo liked me enough to put me in charge of a bunch of his RPGs when he disappeared - I've never played to win. I've only ever played to have fun :P And my supposed knack for the dramatic makes losing just as much fun as winning.Personally winning can be rather... boring.

  11. I'm going to throw this out there for Lev.You posted that straight into the Approval Topic, but if you don't post it here than you have no idea if people will play it. And after actually skimming (because i couldn't bring myself, in good faith, to read every word of that wall) I can truely and honestly say that i would never play that. It's too restricting, too grounded. With no room for imagination. Maybe i'm crazy. I honestly only read to the end of locations before it became too much. But that's what i see so far.I urge - no, I beg you to remember Elementum. There were a multitude of things that happened there and this RPG is already shaping up to go the same way. Don't make me legitimately screw your RPG over again cause i'm pretty much past that stage. Not that I would, considering you didn't learn from the last time. But try to remember that Text Based RPGs are not tabletop.

  12. Myself, personally, would like to see Diplomacy, Trade, and some of the sneakier sides of Warfare take, if not a larger role, a more accessable role.In addition to that, the pure and simple ability to devote your own resources to the development of technology that only you yourself can use, rather than having technological advancement be at the whims of the GM, as you've said.@Levs RPG in the Submission Topic.I skimmed. I really, honestly did. But just looking at that makes me think that you've gone the same way as the last RPG you made (in my memory), Elementum. While i will read it eventually, it honestly looks to me like you took skyrim/oblivion, and tried to put it in an RPG. which on one hand is good and cool, but the way it's written (aka massive walls of text) makes it seem like you didn't try to make an RPG based off of it. More like you made it into a tabletop rpg and then tried to make that tabletop into a Text Based.

  13. I'm going for Naval Superiority not out of simply wanting to, but strategy.I could go Air superiority, but that has a lot more people gunning for it.Naval Superiority = You can't do something unless I allow it. Complete Monopoly on Trade and the ability to blockade people who might be a problem. My mind's loving the strategic possibilities of Strio.... Alex you might've just created a monster.Or added to a pre-existing one, we'll have to see.

  14. Aww, I was rather looking forward to a sort of naval superiority.Bah, I suppose I'll just go for precision instead.

You can help me :PThis should be interesting. One of the main reasons i didn't join starscape was because Specialization was wierd. You were encouraged to specialize but at the same time you weren't. This should be interesting.I'm gonna go all out on this too :P
  15. So we're now looking at Provincial Expansion rather than City Expansion... Interesting. So cities then are no longer part of the IP gain thing, but i'm going to assume that we still have capitals which, in the event of an invasion, would still need to be conquered, yes?And due to Koth's incessant bugging of yours truely, i'll have a literal ton of Military Profiles for you by the end of the week...Naval Superiority here I come >=D

  16. Oh no, there's a big difference. The Syrrinx were acting like that. I knew there were people who played differently from the Syrrinx. And that leads to the big part there.I wasn't playing to win.

You weren't playing to lose either.Besides, In my own experience i can't roleplay a character that i can't think or act like. Hence why nearly every Character i create essentially embodies a part of my personality. Through that experience i see the Syrrnix's blatant disregard for the views of other races (and your own subsequent "outrage") as part of your own personality. Regardless, I don't want to spam this topic so I'm done"To alex and Koth - Do all of our weapons need profiles, or just out Exotic/Powered Up ones?
  17. Technologically, the Syrrinx were even with their contemporaries. Diplomatically, I was a member of The Pact, and that seems to be a pretty good situation. Granted, I didn't expect a Pact member to stab me in the back, but meh. Also, the whole "Syrrinx don't see unprovoked attacks as bad" thing? Remember that? I figured I was screwing myself, but that's how Syrrinx are.

Technologically they were even with their counterparts militarily. Considering your Fleet of Large ships still died...Besides, Being a member of the pact meant nothing. At the very least, it meant you had allies, and at the most, it meant you had a set of allies who, due to treaties, wouldn't be dumb enough to attack. And the Syrnix not seeing unprovoked Attacks as bad wasn't the problem. The problem was thinking that their allies would take that and say "That's the way they are, oh well." That's what I mean as having set yourself up to fail diplomatically. You forgot there were civilizations that weren't the syrnix.Essentially, you acted as though (to use character based RPGs as an example) Your character shared the views and opinions of every other. Believe me anyone who does that in Strio will fall.
  18. I got that way because I didn't have enough missiles.I'm still not sure how I want my nation to be. Aquilonia is going to develop as it happens.

You got that way cause your only saving grace wasyour missiles.I'm sorry but Diplomatically, economically, and Technologically the Syrnix were set up die. Military was the only thing that saved them, and even that failed. You should at least have some idea of what you want your nation to do, lest you end up as the *gasp* jack of all trades nation.
