In order to not flood GA (because yes, I still draw Bionicle-based stuff from time to time! Just never get around to posting it...), here's an art collection. All new stuff will be put here - if you're interested in some of my older works, there's a list at the bottom of this post. As for the rest and future plans, I intend to put stuff up as it comes along, new stuff on top, and of course update posts. Comments and criticism are greatly appreciated, as always! ---- query - ruins (posted 2021-09-20) - New Protector of Fire (see above; link leads to post in this topic) (added 10/03/2021) Protector helmet sketches (added 13/11/2020) Nokama Metru & Hordika (added 30/06/2020; drawn 05/2019) A-tak-nid (added 16/05/2020) untitled Toa (added 11/05/2020) Turaga Vakama (added 11/10/2018; drawn in 2017) Hahli Mahri Watercolour Profile (added 15/08/2018) Hahli Mahri Sketches (added 09/08/2018) Taka Nuvia (added 25/06/2018) - Original post (w/description) ---- Mantax (posted 12/05/2018) This was originally drawn in ballpoint pen, then coloured with coloured pencils and some gel pens. And then I re-outlined the whole thing because it was a mess, added the background (ink wash, technically.) I just really like Mantax's design, and it's been ages since I last drew him (six years or something. Time flies. D: ) I may point out that this was done without a reference because you know, I draw most things while on the subway, to uni. (obviously, colouring and background were added later, at home. I don't carry that many supplies around all the time.) So it's sorta inaccurate, but I'm actually fairly happy with it design-wise. ^^ --- Old art topics (from 2015 onwards, tho much older stuff is still on my brickshelf somewhere.) [original sketch] | [Lineart] Long time no see! Felt like drawing something BIONICLE-related again after what must have been... months? (even if you do count the odd sketchbook scribble). And who would make for a better motive than the one and only Roodaka? =D I actually went and grabbed the old set to reference (I mean obviously, I took some artistic liberties, as always), but tried to make the design my own. She didn't turn out quite as menacing as I had originally intended, but I am nonetheless happy with the outcome. It's a digital artwork because I liked the original sketch too much to ink it. Comments and criticism are most welcome and appreciated, as always! :]

Yes, obviously the topic title is a joke It's an older drawing, but I totally forgot to post it until now, so here it is! Just your run-of-the-mill Bohrok thingie. I was trying to go for a more insectoid feel here, not sure if I succeeded. :/

This was originally just a random ballpoint pen sketch. Then I decided to colour it; sadly my scanner does not agree well with the paper (it really does look better IRL ), plus the drawing is kind of small. Anyway, the character depicted is just a random Toa of Water, no particular backstory or anything here. Essentially I just felt like drawing some 'classic' Bionicle stuff for once. C:

Something from march (?) I originally wanted to finish, but never completed. So it's more of a digital scribble than anything, but it includes some kind of background, thus I thought I should also share it on here. Also hey, all guidelines still there so you can kinda see how I work C:

Today's drawing, a small portrait of Nokama. After all, she's always been one of my most favourite characters in Bionicle... Style-wise this is obviously a little different from my usual depictions, as I am currently trying to capture a more "robotic" appearance as opposed to my normally very humanized depictions. Not sure about whether I succeeded with that, but I am overall quite happy with the outcome.

This was more of a pen test than anything serious, but I think it turned out rather cute. Plus, I can't remember when I last drew a Rahaga (2008/2009?), so... a nameless Rahaga. C: (fun fact: this was drawn on some completely wrong paper, in ballpoint pen, because I was just finished with some university work and so tired - originally I didn't even think it would become an actual drawing, anyway...)

These are all from about a week ago, when I watched LoMN again and realized how far my way of drawing matoran had drifted away from the 'original' influences, so I thought I'd try and re-capture the essence of what I think matoran to look like. Sort of. Those two little ones were drawn directly with the ballpoint pen, with minimal sketching (which you can very much see at the left matoran's left/seen as right leg.) Then I decided to draw Jaller for a warmup. While I am not entirely happy with the colouring, I guess it does look like the character, so it's okay with me. ^^

Finally my digital sketches are beginning to look like something useful/nice. So here's a creature from the deep dark waters; I was sort of inspired by the Barraki when drawing this. (click the thumbnail or follow this link to view the whole pic) After all, Gen1 has always had intriguing concepts and designs, and has definitely influenced my art a lot.

So, what do we have here - a sort of cross between a matoran and a Bohrok, with some influences by Protectors. More of a concept-y drawing, mostly due to time reasons. The idea that the Bohrok actually used to be matoran once has always fascinated me (although it's somewhat disturbing), but what if there were a way back to matoran-esque beings by means of re-evolution?

Felt like drawing something Bionicle-related again - but only after accidentally opening the Piraka rap, whilst holding a pink ballpoint pen. It all sort of clicked into place, so here's a female Skakdi. I've included both the original version and a black-and-white one (after all, the pink is very pink. I like it, though) ]::[ No pre-sketching because it's been a frustrating day. Time: ~ 1 hour, 30 minutes. I guess. Comments and criticism are greatly welcome, as always.

But far less set-like this time. More of a 'calm before the storm'-type drawing, I suppose. (click the thumbnail or follow this link to view full drawing) This looks much better IRL, though. My scanner decided to eliminate most of the nuances of the shading, and I fear my editing killed the rest. Anyhow. Here we have another Protector of Fire, female this time. This drawing was done mostly in an attempt of re-collecting myself, thus the rather static pose. Outlines were done in ballpoint pen (although on my sketchbook paper the lines always look more line ordinary pencil), the colouring/shading was done in coloured pencil. I made an obvious perspectivic error at the farther fin of the helmet, but decided to use the 'more wrong' version because I liked it better. Comments, criticism etc are very much appreciated, just as always!

Since I really need to do more (object) studies as well as practise drawing from life in general, I thought I might as well practise that with some of my Bionicle sets. So, the first two drawings on top were done all methodically and focused. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how they turned out. The bottom one, on the other hand, was done deliberately sketchy, because I wanted to find out whether I was actually capable of doing that or whether it would turn out all awfully. (which it didn't, otherwise I'd hardly have posted it xD) So yeah. Comments? Criticism?
