Password Security

Someone pointed this out to me, and I thought it was interesting and appropriate for BZPower.

So tell me; how secure is your password?

Several hundred years at least.

What they don't say is whether it's only one computer? A botnet could make it much, much faster.

This is very reassuring.

I make sure to to add in capital letter(s) and number(s). I wish that some of my older passwords would be able to be changed, but those sites don't have such a feature.

It's also good to make it gibberish-like, such as putting numbers inside a word/phrase, or better yet an acronym.

Back when I got hacked, I had one of those flimsy 18 days passwords, but now I've got a heavy duty, easy-for-me-to-remember-but-not-anyone-else 44 530 year passwords. Civilizations will rise and fall before they break into my account again.

My password is really long and while it would be pretty easy to guess for some people, I wouldn't care if they got into my accounts.

To everyone else it is impossible.

Well not really, but according to that it would take 440000+ years.

You're right. Additionally, if your password is common or a normal dictionary word, it will probably take a lot less time too. But if someone was trying to use an entire botnet just to guess your password I think you'd have a lot of bigger things to worry about.

The thing with hackers is that a lot of times they'll go for low hanging fruit - the people with the easy to guess passwords - and won't waste their time on the people with more secure ones.

44,530.

I wonder how long it'd take for a password with foreign symbol characters, haha.

Actually, wouldn't having chinese characters make it take even longer to guess? There's an idea, eh?

I took a name that came from my mind, modified it, added numbers and symbols. Even a Great Being could not find it. I feel secure.

My password has 27 characters, upper and lower case, words and jumbled letters, numbers, and non-QWERTY symbols. I would say it takes longer than the universe has existed to hack it. :P
