Blog Entry Written On Six Hours Of Sleep

I forgot what I wanted to blog about yesterday, so instead I'll blog about the monthly movie marathon thing we had last night/this morning. The girls went to their bedroom in the middle of the third movie (The Emperor's New Groove, because I felt we needed something brighter and more obnoxious after watching Batman Begins), around 12:30, and stayed up for another hour talking about whatever it is girls talk about. The guys, meanwhile, stayed up until something like 3:00, with practically no soci

Monkeys In Pop Culture

I just realized that two of my interests both feature monkeys as a recurring theme: Kim Possible's Ron Stoppable is usually terrified of monkeys, and Bucky Katt from the comic strip Get Fuzzy is obsessed with eating them. Coincidence? I think not! *twitch*   Arpy   Original Date: 11/15/06

Avatar: The Last Graffitibender

Item #1: While I was riding the bus to class I saw some Avatar-related graffiti: someone sprayed "Appa rules" on the side of a building (Probably a flying bison fangirl). I'll try and get pictures later this week. Item #2: I posted my halfbots and Niksput. Check them out here. Item #3: My team won the U-15 soccer championship last night. More on that later. Item #4: The Second-worst Car Award goes to the Scion xB. Cars like the Hummer and Honda Element make boxiness look good. The Scion makes

I finally photographed my floating rock, which can be seen here. I also built a bot and a strange thing which I will post later because now I have to leave for IT tech class.   Arpy

First Hamster Census Taken

First Hamster Census taken By Hurling Frootmig, Editor-in-chief   The results of the first-ever hamster census were released Tuesday by researchers at the University of Maximegalon's MISPWOSO. The census was conducted over the last two months, involving over 15,000 hamsters and revealing absolutely nothing that wasn't known, except for the fact that every hamster has 0.9 littermates and a carrot, as evidenced by the following diagram:

Halloween Is:

The favorite day of the year for the vast and powerful pumpkin industry Another great excuse for me to be obnoxious and irrational The number one source of hyperactivity in American children The only time I can wear a lumberjack hat and not look like a dorkish sort of person The day after October 30th Usually the only time you see the Grim Reaper on the bus Arpy

Daylight Savings Time

Dave Barry has a theory that Daylight Savings Time was invented because of a bet made between two Congressmen that they could get the entire nation to change their clocks biannually without ever knowing why. The only other theory I've heard has something to do with farmers and harvesting stuff in the days of yore, and since farmers only make up a small percentage of the population IIRC, I'm inclined to believe Dave's hypothesis. In fact, the government should change the Daylight Savings Time so

Arpy Birfday To Me!

Ouch.

My head is currently under assault by the ruler-of-all-headaches and his evilish minions. It feels like a large rock is ricocheting off the inside of my skull.   Shutting my eyes tightly = Ouch. Sudden change in elevation = Ouch! Jerking my head sharply in any direction = OWZARKDANGTHATHURTS!!!   The ruler-of-all-headaches had better cease his attack by Monday or I'm going to have a lousy birthday.   Arpy   (ouch)

Aquaraiders Owns!

Wow.   It's been four years since Lego's done an underwater theme, and the new parts that have come out in the time intervening really make a difference. I'm really excited about Aquaraiders, and so far I haven't seen a single set I don't like. This set in particular is a must-have. The lobster-thingy radiates a nice "creepy-bug vibe", and I like the use of the mini-Piraka spines.   The saving-of-money starts now.   Arpy

Slime-covered Mushrooms? Urgh.

All right, I'm going to get the slime-covered mushroom part done first, then get right to the "life" portion of this entry. I'm also going to see how many times I can use the phrase "slime-covered mushrooms" in a single blog entry. So far, I'm up to three, counting the title, "Slime-Covered Mushrooms? Urgh." I don't exactly know why I have this sudden obsession with slime-covered mushrooms, but I suspect that it is because compared to many of my daily activities, the awesomerosityficationalness

Thrift Store Treasures

I went to Goodwill today looking for lumberjack clothing, and lo and behold, there on the shelf was a Pohatu Olda canister that made a familiar rattling noise when I shook it. Upon breaking it open, I was quite pleased to find, in order of yayness: A few extra rubber bands, Toa heads and plus-rods A white Akaku and orange Rau Pohatu Olda, only missing the boulder Complete Turaga Whenua Complete McToran Onepu! All in excellent condition and all for only $0.99!  Arpy

The Most Annoying Thing In The World..

...Is when you get the skin (or whatever it is) of a popcorn kernel stuck in the back of your throat and your tongue can't reach it and you eventually have to go in there with your finger or a sharp implement to get the darn thing out.   Arpy

Exo-farce

Why post an entry this late? Because in addition to their nutritional value, blog entries are great for bringing attention to stuff I just noticed while surfing BZP extremely early in the morning, like NNH's Lego comedy, Exo-Farce. With episode names like "The Beginner's Guide To Breaking Elderly Friends and Assorted Freaks out of a Heavily Armed Robot Base" and "Lots of Guns And Explosions",[hikaru] you know it's, like, gonna be, like, totally awesome. [/hikaru] Plus, the personalities NNH has

Bots-bots-bots!

I built some bots, you can click these three words for the topic.   *awkward pause*   My day reminds me of Arthur Dent's transient existence in Mostly Harmless: Since 9:30 this morning I have been/will be riding the bus from place to place, from the dentist to my IT class to the library to some local restaurant where I plan to grab dinner to youth group tonight and finally back home around 9:30 PM.   Oy.   Arpy

Geekiness

Time for a list of all the things that make me rather geeky:   I build and play with Lego. I work with computers. I am a Trekkie. I have (at last count) 107 Star Trek books. I am also fairly obsessed with the old (60s-80s era) Marvel comics. I drink Mountain Dew when I can get it. I wave my hand at automatic doors when nobody is looking. I wore a Starfleet Commander's uniform for two Halloweens in a row. I am taking an IT Tech class, and am learning binary and hex. I am in the process

Weird Names, Part 2

Okay, multiple-choice quiz this time.   "Cravixtha" is:   {A} The name of one of Jinzo's Bionicle MOCs   {B} A Greek word meaning "to refute" or "to rebut"   {C} a name I made up after two cans of Mountain Dew and too much free Lego time   {D} apparently the name of the daughter of some people who went to the same university as my parents   Arpy

Kablooie!

That is the word I have chosen for today's blog entry. Now, for the subject: Spork-wielding llama pirates. Ha! I'm actually kidding there. I fail to understand the obsession with llamas, penguins, sporks, etc. Pirates, I can understand.   Arrrrghpy

Goodbye, Mr. Anderson.

My Wednesdays are the busiest they've ever been. I won't bore you with details, just know that between Bible study, sleeping, homeschooling, IT tech class, meals, etc., I have a grand total of 2 hours of free time.   Also, on a somewhat unrelated subject, my computer class yesterday was totally awesome. We had a sub teacher who had us reread the mobo chapter and answer some of the chapter quiz questions, after which we played Counter-Strike. The "education" part took about thirty minutes for m

I! Am! Thoroughly! Sick! Of! Binary!

That's because translating, writing, and memorizing binary numbers is pretty much all we've been doing in computer class (except of course for the horror that is Human Relations). At least I don't have to learn hex yet...   01000001 011100100 1110000 01111001

Space!

I won some of those old Classic Spacemen on an eBay auction the other day. Aside from the novelty of having Lego minifigs that are twice as old as me, they also enhance and affirm my status as an elite member of the TFOL Reich of Classic-Space-Fandom, giving me great prestige and power. It is my sworn duty as a member of this secretive and possibly nonexistent organization to say that Space is cooler than all other AFOL themes, including-but-not-limited-to: Castle, Town, Microscale, Technic, Ste
