The Pixar List - Toy Story - Rank 10

10th - Toy Story, 1995

iBrow Percentage: 85

Do I really need to do a synopsis for this movie? I don't think I need to. If you're paying attention to this entry at all (and trust me, you are all paying attention now), I shouldn't have to explain what Toy Story is. So I won't. Just know that it's a classic, and if you haven't seen it that is a crime to humanity.

This is, I have no doubt, the most controversial placement on this list. Wall-E wasn't as controversial. The reaction to my Ratatouille entry was mainly stirred up by the hint (obviously) leading to this film. And even Up, when it comes, won't be like this. Because right now, I am shattering your minds. I am ripping apart all of your beliefs about Pixar, about Toy Story, about my common sense, about life itself.

I am ranking Toy Story as 10th out of 13.

Why? Because there are a few scenes in the film that I just don't think fit quite right. Chief among them (and indeed, the biggest factor) are the scenes taking place at Sid's house. I felt that the idea of being hunted down by someone fifty times your size to be blown up or ripped apart and randomly sewn back together was a little too dark compared to the rest of the film, and although that period in the film included several necessary plot points, I feel they might have been better played out in a different fashion. Except for the freaky "toys coming to life" bit, which just should never ever exist again. In addition, I dislike how quickly many of the toys are willing to turn on Woody and switch to Buzz in the beginning; what's up with that?

However, it seems I can never stress enough how great every Pixar film is, with the exception of Cars 2 and perhaps Wall-E. This film has an 85/100 from me, and it has had enough of an influence on my life that I used it as one of three things I based my comedy Tahu vs. Tahu on (the other two being Bionicle and Red vs. Blue). The characters are iconic and will forever be ingrained into my brain, and they will always be characters I care for. Except Mr. Potato Head, the lucky dog. Why is he lucky? Wait until I write up Toy Story 3.

Anyway, there are my thoughts in short once more. I'm not going to bother explaining the hint to this one- if you didn't get it, I feel for you. So, here is the hint towards rank 9:

the all-new...

I felt like part of the reason many of the toys where willing to turn against Woody is because, lets face it, he kind of acts like a meanie (with want of a better word) toward Buzz, and he certainly isn't hiding it. So it isn't a huge stretch for them to think that he might have tried to shove Buzz out the window.

Also I feel like what takes place in Sid's house is entirely necessary for the relationship of Buzz and Woody to progress. They needed to be forced into a situation where working together would be required.

Although I completely disagree with your placement of WALL-E on the list, I am enjoying this ranking thing your doing. Keep it up. ^_^

(And I feel like a really bad Pixar fan for not understanding the next hint.)

ibrow, you better have a DARN GOOD reason for placing Cars over Wall-E, Ratatouille and Toy Story

and even if it is DARN GOOD, i'll still disagree

(also everything i say about your opinion being wrong or whatever is entirely in jest and you should take it lightly)

Cars is placed higher because Cars is better- that simple. Also Vorahk, the next hint... yeah, it's actually pretty easy if you look. I mean, LOOK. LOOK. CAN YOU SEE IT NOW?

I don't know. Cars is about even with Toy Story for me, but I would have ranked A Bug's Life before WALL-E. It has always been one of my least favorite PIXAR films.

As for the hint, I don't know. At first I thought Cars, because the only time I remember anyone in PIXAR saying "the all-new" was Mater when he was introducing Lightning after he had been repainted, gotten new tires, fixed the neon, etc.

It could also mean Brave, considering it's the newest PIXAR movie there is right now.

If I were the one doing the rankings, mine would go:

1) The Incredibles

2) Up

3) Toy Story 3

4) Monsters, Inc.

5) Ratatouille

6) Finding Nemo

7) Toy Story 2

8) Cars

9) Toy Story

10) WALL-E

11) A Bug's Life

12) Cars 2

??) Brave (Haven't seen it)

And once you get past Cars 2 and A Bug's Life, everything is still on the awesome level.

YOU JUST NEED TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH MORE AWESOME RATATOUILLE REALLY IS!

Meh, I probably would have place Toy Story higher. There are some bits that didn't work, sure, but it's miles better than a lot of the other Pixar movies, including it's own sequels; I'm probably (again) in the minority for not liking TS3 all that much.

Did you understand why TS3 was sad? I didn't.

TS3's "sad" parts were no different than any other movie where the protagonist(s) are put in some sort of peril. Equating that with sadness baffles me.

When people say TS3 is sad, generally speaking, they're referring to the last (approximate) five minutes of the movie, not peril scenes in general. Although even then 'bittersweet' would probably be a better adjective to use.

It was sad because peril caused them to completely give up. They forfeited their desire to live because they perceived the end as inevitable. That's what bummed me out about it, especially considering the cheerful optimism of the first two.

That aside, the first half of the movie was decent enough, but the second half just got tired.

This list is a JOKE. The toys turning on Woody seems odd now that you've seen how close they all are in TS2 and TS3, but it's not unbelievable for the first film to have that in it, since we didn't know the characters that well. And them all turning is maybe what makes them so close in the later films.

And Sid's house totally fits.

And Cars is not better than Toy Story, that's an absolute JOKE.

Toy Story only tenth? No way. :o Anyway, I'll take a guess at the next one...

The Incredibles?

Not because I think it would desere such a low rating, but because the "all-new" part makes me think of Edna's presentation of the new suits (and it's kind of the only thing of any Pixar film that I can think of that fits your hint somewhat :P).
