Moar Chima Species

So with the new episode and stuff we're seeing a lot of new tribes added to the lore beyond what's already in sets (gorillas, rhinos, bears, etc.). I've been curious as to what other species would make good tribes.

A few ideas me and Bamble tossed around:

Foxes (obvs)

Hyenas

Komodo dragons (we really need some kind of lizard, and these guys are sick)

Sharks (SHARKS)

Otters (need another aquatic tribe with sharks about)

Lynx

Porcupines (why not)

I've actually been throwing ideas around for other tribes and even sketching a little.

Sharks abviously like you said, with either whales (Shamu) or Squids as their counterpart.

BEES. We need some insects up in this theme, and bees are awesome. Their opposite would be Ladybugs or Dragonflies.

Regular cats. Just. Cats.

Actual Dragons maybe?

Bees are a great idea and also dragonflies

I am personally not too fond of any whales in any anthro form but I could see it work. Cepholopods would be interesting of they make them different enough from Atlantis.

I considered domestic cats and they would actually work well but I personally favor lynx over them.

And I REALLY WANT DRAGON FIGS but I don't really know how I feel about mythical creatures in the line. If we count them, I'm gonna throw griffons in the mix too (darn it Laval and Eris what have you done).

Yeah, I don't know how whales would work, but they seem like the obvious counterpart to sharks. I prefer squids. Maybe seahorses?...wait no, I can't imagine that looking anything but weird.

For the cats I just wanted a more cynical feline in the mix. Like lions are regarded as noble and all that jazz, but cats are usually seen as shallow and capricious, self serving and just kind of baaaad, if harmless. I don't know if there are any actual attitudes associated with lynxes? I'd be mostly interested in the contrast between lions and some new feline so, yeah.

Though I admit mythical beasts might not work too great, especially given the background story for why the anthro animals even exist. But. Dragon minifigures would be pretty amazing.

Squids and Nautili. Squids can have a long head and have the arms/legs actually be two or three tentacles coiled around each other, respectively Nautili could have spiral helmets and tentacle beards.

Naga. Human upper body, snake tail below the waist. Do it properly, too, not like Ninjago's snake people.

Mantids. Praying Mantis priest figs. Brightly colored Fruit Mantis figs. Vehicles reminiscent of Water Striders, which are technically Mantids.

Scorpions and Scarabs.

Hatchetfish, Black Dragonfish, Coelecanths, Piranhas, Catfish, Snakeheads, and Flashlight Fish.

Bears. Russian bears. Russian bears with ushankas.

Frogs. Poison dart frogs, especially.

Bats.

I think you're forgetting the most obvious candidate here

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned the obvious: elephants. They're pretty tough, and wouldn't feel too out of place among the already existing species. And unlike the already listed snakes, sharks, and insects, we don't already have anthropomorphized versions of them. None recent, anyway.

Hatchetfish,

Coelecanths,

Flashlight Fish.

YES YES YES YES

The Hatchetfish people could leap out of the water and land on you.

That sounds like a feasible way to make squids work. And a Nautili tribe would be rockin.

I almost suggested snakes/naga but since Ninjago just happened I couldn't really see it being a thing. Though the Chima style's a bit different so I could see it working.

SCORPIONS YES. Heck let's get a whole desert region in Chima. That would open up a lot of potential.

And HOW DID I FORGET BATS I LOVE BATS ;____;

I thought elephants would work but I didn't really like the idea for the same reason as whales. They're both such huge creatures, scaling them down to the size of the other minifigs would feel strange to me. Unless they add some troll-sized characters; I would love an elephant beast at that size.

Sponges.

To be fair, elephants aren't really that much larger than rhinoceroses. Since we're apparently already getting anthropomorphized Rhinos on a minifig scale, elephants aren't that unreasonable.

I wholeheartedly support the prospect of more lizard-based species, particularly the komodo dragons. Or "real" dragons for that matter. If Lego made an anthro dragon minifigure, I could not throw my money at the screen fast enough.

Although if Lego wanted to branch out into some completely mental ideas, the could introduce an "ancient" dinosaur species everyone else had long since thought died out.

Yeah, they could totally do it and it'd still look good but I think I'd prefer the troll-size idea. It'd be neat to have some at that size anyhow. :3

Any sort of reptiles are definitely a must.

Dinos might be neat but That's a very broad category. Maybe having multiple dino tribes later on would work (maybe bring in some other ancient beasties like saber tooth cats and dire wolves for fun :3).

I'm tempted to add in cattle or deer too, but the former is usually domestic unlike the rest of Chima species and I'm not sure how great antlers would look on a minifig.

Dino tribes are simple to make generalizations for. Brachiosaurs, Armored herbivorous sauropods (IE Triceratops, Ankylosaurs, and Stegosaurs), herbivorous theropods, large carnivores, and small carnivores.

Of course, that's keeping with just True Dinosaurs. If you factor in other prehistoric reptiles, you get Pterosaurs, Dimetrodons and other giant lizards, Icthyosaurs and their ilk, and the Pleisiosaurs. Most of these are carnivorous, however, so they're likely to be villainous, possibly excluding Pterosaurs because those guys are usually "cool".

For those who are wondering, there are elephants in the world of Chima. We haven't seen them yet, but the mention of elephants has come across in official media several times now.
