9 10 days until college!

(Yes, republished. Sue me for wanting MOCing comments.)

It's so weird. I'm so excited about The Day the Earth Stood Still trailer, it's like I'm an advocate for it. But thinking about it, if it wasn't Keanu Reeves playing Klaatu, I don't think I would be as excited. (Maybe if it was another big actor I liked, but I don't like every actor out there.) But Keanu looks to be doing an amazing job from the trailer.

One priview.

Here's another one:

Things to come

More things

(There you will see six Toa, except I still need to make a body for the ice Toa. There's also a bunch of space/mircospace to post, which I think are awesome. (Built one today at WAMALUG.))

Two previews.

Howzabout a WIP of some sort of space ship/cruiser/microspace?

Three down, one to go.

Well, this isn't really a preview, but I will tell you that you can see my Bionicle Chess Set and Crustacean Rahi up-close and personal at BrickFair '08 on August 29, 30, and 31. (Details still pending on if I can make it.)

Four previews. Comment on all of them if you feel like it, I don't mind.

Oh, this is my 500th entry!

Quote of the Day from bio djinnie: Why is it called common sense if it's so hard to find?

You're making a kitar (I think that's how it's spelled)? 'Cause if that's what it is, it's sweet.

Nevermind, I just read after the Wip pic that it's a ship/microspace thing. I still think it would make a sweet kitar. It looks good so far.

P

No, no kitar. But this isn't turning out how I like, so maybe I'll make it a weapon on somebody.

Looks cool . . . the white one's shoulders should be filled in, and he needs a lower neck.

Oh, I hope you post that Pohtok revamp

"A role that's perfect for Keanu Reeves."

"What, one that requires no real emotion whatsoever?"

"Exactly"

- My friend and me, respectively.

I never actually saw the original, but this looks pretty good. Plus, who -doesn't- love Keanu Reeves?

You mean his armpit, right? Between his body and the actual Vahki head. The ball and the stick that is the connection?

Right, I don't have any white tires. And when people do that, it's obviously covering something up (unless it looks really good, then it's OK.)

If you see The Day the Earth Stood Still without seeing the original, I will hunt you down and kill you.

Because just because of a 45-second preview, I'm never, ever seeing that remake.

Because just from those 45 seconds...

I can tell that it's so unlike the real Day the Earth Stood Still that it deserves to be set fire to.

I repeat.

SEE. THE. ORIGINAL.

Now try and convince me that it doesn't fail so badly that it redefines fail. [/spittingvenom]

The story, as in the first movie, was based off the short story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates. I think the 2008 movie is based more off the story. I don't know how similar either movies are to the story though. Besides, I Am Legend was based off its book and not any of its earlier film b-movies.

That, and this movie is using technology that wasn't around 50 years ago. This movie is a major motion picture (or whatever), not a b-movie. The audience is targeted for today, which seems to ask for more action and drama (among other things).

And I'm not saying you have to see the movie. Sounds like you won't, and that's OK.

Yeah . . . they has to be another way than tires . . . :( I can't think of any though.

There were two major sci-fi movies of the 50s and 60s. They were The Day the Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet. In my opinion, both of those movies are probably better than anything produced today. Life was much simpler back then; we didn't demand entertainment as we do now. In my thoughts, I would rather watch three 45-minute Star Trek TOS episodes than watch The Dark Knight.

Yes, I am under no obligation to watch any remake of what I believe is already a wonderful movie. I simply must beg you: please, see the original before you see it. Experience it the way that the 50s moviegoers experienced it. I have read Farewell to the Master; however, since I have not seen the remake, it is impossible to tell which is more similar.

Hmm...what's the likelihood that Blockbuster or Hollywood Video would have the original film? Or do you think I could watch it on that site?

Because when I first heard this was a "remake," I was interested in the older one.

I doubt either of them would have it, as it is from '51. My best guess would be a library, and it's a normal-length movie, so I doubt it's on that one site. So try requesting from a library- I know that at least one in the Usa has it.
