The story, as in the first movie, was based off the short story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates. I think the 2008 movie is based more off the story. I don't know how similar either movies are to the story though. Besides, I Am Legend was based off its book and not any of its earlier film b-movies.

That, and this movie is using technology that wasn't around 50 years ago. This movie is a major motion picture (or whatever), not a b-movie. The audience is targeted for today, which seems to ask for more action and drama (among other things).

And I'm not saying you have to see the movie. Sounds like you won't, and that's OK.

In my opinion, both of those movies are probably better than anything produced today. Life was much simpler back then; we didn't demand entertainment as we do now. In my thoughts, I would rather watch three 45-minute Star Trek TOS episodes than watch The Dark Knight.

Experience it the way that the 50s moviegoers experienced it. I have read Farewell to the Master; however, since I have not seen the remake, it is impossible to tell which is more similar.

I doubt either of them would have it, as it is from '51. My best guess would be a library, and it's a normal-length movie, so I doubt it's on that one site. So try requesting from a library- I know that at least one in the Usa has it.
