2009

With the latest round of supposed set names and images floating around on the Net, I am getting a lot of PMs asking about 2009 sets, names, and a few about story. In a few cases, I have been able to provide answers, in many more cases I cannot. And most BZPers know that they cannot expect answers on the next year's product this early in the year before.

So that said, I am not going to spend time writing "I can't discuss this" over and over to people who already know that. PMs asking me about 2009 will, until further notice, simply not get answers. I cannot very well ask BZP to respect LEGO's policy re: leaked info (real or not) and then disrespect the policy myself by commenting here.

So if you are planning to send me "Real or fake?" PMs or anything like that re: 2009 sets, please don't waste your time. You won't receive a response until LEGO Company clears me to discuss next year, which won't be for a few months at least.

Cool, I'm glad you cleared this up. It might even just stop most of your PMs for a few days. :P However, expect tons of 2009 theories popping up for you to disprove.

I won't ask you and I feel your pain when people just refuse to listen to rules. And to think those people stuck these pics on BZPower and elsewhere on purpose fully knowing the rules, it sickens me... -_-

Anyways, my 2009 theories depend on too many leaked things so don't expect anything from me. :P

So maybe you can just copy and paste 'I can't discuss this' over and over instead of typing it? :P

Naaw, I can wait until 2009. Although I would like to know if the Nuva are still around...

Iro is correct -- LEGO releases images and info on the upcoming sets to retailers, as they need to place their orders well before January to insure they have the sets on shelves then. Those catalogs are specifically not intended to public view, but every year, there is some retailer somewhere (in this case, it looks like Portugal) who either scans the images himself or gives it to one of his customers to scan.

In their rush to be first with news, these so-called "fans" never consider how early publication of these images can hurt LEGO's business, by giving other companies time to rush out knock-offs of our designs.

It is indeed the sad truth about the matter. Now that the images are out, knockoffs are sure to follow...

At most how much could it affect overall profit, Greg?

I really wonder why people haven't caught on to this by now. This seems to happen every year, and every year Greg tell everyone he can't discus it. Not to hard to figure out if you ask me.

Somebody needs to spread word to those who like to tell others about leaks that it hurts LEGO's sales, and that can possibly end up in the end of BIONICLE itself. Greg said that the line depends entirely on sales. Also, I think the prices are high enough due to monetary problems around the world; we seriously don't need more reasons to raise the set prices.

I can see that people who find these are excited, but telling others about them for whatever reason does more bad than good. Especially this early on, we usually don't get official news of the following year until around October or November.

Also, are we still allowed to ask questions about 2009 provided leaked info is not part of the question? Such as stuff about story that you are allowed to discuss?

That's horrible, just horrible.

Even though I find the leaks interesting the idea of knock-offs is a terrible idea.

don't worry greg i personally won't think about them until 2009 or December or at least not too much maybe in my mind but not too much no questions or anything

I don't fully understand. Yes, it's obviously bad if Lego competitors find images early on. But now the damage is already done. What is the harm of letting a small fan community that makes up a miniscule fraction of Lego's customers discuss the images?

Hmm, and I just only posted something about this in the OGD.....

Now that that's settled, we can finally focus on current story. Don't forget, people, that there's still four whole months left in 2008. Still plenty of time for current story.

Another noob has started posting the pictures, despite better knowledge, in five or six topics! Why can't they just accept that these pictures are not wanted on BZP? There are a lot of other sites which permit them, so they should go there and don't cause more trouble than these images are worth.

It ticks you off, doesn't it?

It's like someone telling you what your secret Christmas present is going to be.

I didn't look at them...

EDIT: What the? I didn't see F.'s (NtM) post, but still...

Timing, I suppose.
