Well, i, for one, think that Mata-Nui does resemble Omega Supreme, not Optimus Prime

Very good comparison. They do look very similar. However, I think I have an answer for this: Transformers are very tall, and so are usually always viewed being looked up to. Mata Nui is extremely tall, and thus is viewed by a similar, looked-up-to angle. Thus, the angle makes them appear similar. If you looked at a Toa from a similar angle, I bet he'd look somewhat like a Transformer, too.

Just a theory.

I once doodled Tahu Mata in summer camp, and everyone who saw it thought he was a Transformer.

I like Mata Nui's appearance.

And the name Teridax. So sue me.
