Story Fit! =]

Some of you may have heard of Exo-Fat's new RPG Fit Program. Due to its success, I'm starting a similar program for story writing rather than role-playing, named the Story Fit.

Each week I will post a new prompt or task of sorts, such as a one-word theme to write a story around, or an idea to incorporate into your work. Other than that, you will have complete freedom with what to write – you can write your story in the Short Stories, Comedies, COT forum, or even in the Epics forum. Once you do, post to that week's blog post with a link to your story. There is no deadline for completing the tasks, unlike with the RPG Fit, so you can take as long as you need to write your story -- you still have to write it though. xD

The basic idea here is to improve the writing skills of participants through weekly "exercises". But for members who aren't satisfied just with the prospect of becoming better writers, I will also use a point system similar to Exo-Fat's for extra incentive. You get points for completing the exercises, reviewing other members' stories, or inviting other people to join.

If you want to, sign up here and I'll add you to the members list. Happy writing!

how do i join?

Just ask here and I put you on the list. =]

When you say review other members stories, you mean review the stories of members who are involved with this project, right?

Yeah.

Wait, did you leave out writing in the Epics forum on purpose, or was that a mistake? :P

We don't get awesompantsitude points for reviewing written works that weren't written by a member of Story Fit?

Also, a review for my epic, The Wall, would be nice, since that's where I'm posting the transformation chap and the last post was by me. :P

Rising Moon@ Oops, I was going to explain it later but never remembered to. Fixed. XD

And for now, just points for reviewing other Story Fit stories. Maybe if this gets off the ground I'll start giving out points for reviews in general.

~Monday~@ There's no deadline; you can take as long as you need to complete these tasks, but the longer you take the more tasks there'll be since they'll be released weekly regardless of who's done and who isn't.

I'm thinking of joining, but I have some questions.

1)Will I have to do all the exercises? I don't want them to pile up, but I'll try to do the most I can.

2)I'm writing an epic, and will post all the chapters when I'm finished. Is that fine? I'll write a short story every once in a while.

Wow, this is really coming along nicely.

Just for the record I may be a bit late to jump in, but I will soon. Right now I'm just trying to get sorted so I'll have time to do this.

Some Q: What's the basic gist of all of this? We'll we be doing any contests, or will those points have merit in the future?

I know I have more questions, but I'll come back to this when I have a clearer mind, soo exhausted. I really hope this works out though, I'm excited.

1) You don't "have" to do anything, none of this is mandatory; it's just a fun way to pump up your writing muscles.

2) That's fine.

No problem, take your time Lady K. =]

Well basically, each week I give everyone an exercise, like a prompt (this week's Transformation) or something similar. Then everyone goes off to write something that meets the requirement(s) of the exercise, and posts it here.

For contests, we'll vote each week on the Writer of the Week based on which story is everyone's favorite. For now the points are just there for "awesomeness" -- I haven't decided whether to have them count for anything yet.

Thanks for showing me this. The only question I have is whether or not I'd be in trouble if perhaps I couldn't make a story for the different weeks? I mean would it be alright If I skipped certain weeks altogether... I just ask because I'd like to join, but I doubt I'd be able to participate often. ;)

EDIT: Actually, I've read things a little more closely. I'd like to join if that's alright.

Second EDIT: Thank you. :)

Cool, cool...one more. If I come late in, do I have to rewind all the way back to the last exercise or just start where we currently are? I would love to do them all...but my activity will be up and down for awhile.

Start where we currently are, though if you have the time to and want to do an old theme on the side that's perfectly fine too.

Just wanted to say I'll be happy for that answer. ;)

Um, why was I given one extra point? Are my nonexistent reviews really that bad?

Well, since virtually every author is either part of Story Fit or submits the COTSCG, I get awesome points for reviewing pretty much everything. :P

A suggestion: How about awesome points reset every so often? I still think we should have a task every week, but maybe points can reset every two weeks? Just to give everyone a decent chance.

The points don't actually mean anything other than being there for motivation -- any contests we have (Writer of the Week, for example) are dictated by quality and preference rather than points.

Speaking of which, after I get this week's exercise up, I'll make a list of the stories submitted this week and we'll start voting on our Writer of the Week.

EDIT: Don't forget to look at Velox's post, too - we'll have to do some decision making about that.

EDIT2: Awarded one point each to Rassiter, Yukiko, Monday, Rising Moon, and Akai for advertising the Story Fit. This week's exercise will be up in roughly ten minutes.
