My guess is that he's the green mist that was amalgamated into the giant golden skakdi creature.

Greg said it wasn't antidermis, so it must be Zaktan.

There was an explosion. People generally tend to die at the center of explosions.

Plus there was the cursory "Is Zaktan dead?" "Yes" in the aftermath.

People generally tend to die when they get shot through with laser vision.

Zaktan clearly isn't people.

I can see this being true; Makuta was supposedly dead for a while.

Laser vision is linear, sonic blasts affect a volume.

Also, if Teridax had wanted him alive, he would have teleported him away.

Sonic blast causes waves, which seem like they'd just separate the protodites rather than destroy all of them. Even if it did destroy some, odds are that at least a few survived.

Also, maybe he expected that it would kill Zaktan.

Or, since this is Terry we're talking about, maybe he wanted to keep him alive for some other purpose not yet explored but wanted him to seem dead.

If someone says its a big blue thing, but not the sky, then does that make it the next obvious thing, like the ocean?

Anyway, Greg said that Zaktan is dead. Unless Teridax somehow brought back his fleeing soul before it could wonder off and then put it into a new body, I don't see how Zaktan would still be alive. Even if the cloud was Zaktan somehow, he would be as good as dead now.

Hold on, of the blast was sonic, doesn't that make his protodites go crazy and eat each other?

Actually, due to the pit mutagen, Zaktan became whole again.

Pretty bad loophole, I know, but it was the only way to kill his invincibility.

Later, he was altered by Pit Mutagen into a water-breathing form consisting only of his head and spine, and the number of protodites he was made of was greatly reduced.
