Why Contest #59 Sucks

Couldn't find any reasons at all to hate it. I haven't followed BZP's BBC contests as thoroughly as I should, but I did scan the contest history topic and from what I have seen, many of the contest themes were interesting, in a good way. Some of the more recent contests themes made you really think about what to create; really forced you to show originality, and those are the most awesome ones. I expect this contest to do the same.
Anyways, I read in a few blogs and posts that some members do not like the fact that to enter Contest #59, you must be willing to ship your MOC to BrickFair. Yeah, there might be a money problem, and then the international problem, but chin up guys; this contest isn't stopping you from entering future contests. This contest really shouldn't stop you from creating MOCs and posting images in the BBC Forum. Don't get discouraged; BrickFair only happens once a year, so BZP contests are not going to always have that BrickFair rule there. :)
If you don't like the contest theme this time, then don't enter; simple as that. Instead, try to support the contest or encourage those who are interested in the contest to go ahead and build something and enter it in. Smeagol4, Than, Taka-Tahu-Nuva, Arpy, and Darth Vader are investing a lot of time and effort to bring fun and creativity to members through these contests. Please learn to appreciate their hard work, because their commitment to BBC contests is only voluntary. They don't have to do this for you.
Mmm, I might not be the right person to say this as I am not staff member or MOCer, but don't get too caught up in this. It's the internet, after all. :P
I really can't wait to see what you guys make for this contest. That said, let there be rock. :smeag:

Fact: The only thing I'm against is the fact people have to send it to BrickFair to vote.

I'm sorry, I am not ignorant; most of those conventions are frequented by AFOL who dislike our brand. What makes the contest hosts think that this is the best thing in the world?

My $0.02, of course.

Actually the general impression I get from the usual AFOLs is that they dislike building with Bionicle, but are often truly impressed by what Bionicle MOCers are able to come up with using what they consider useless/over-specialized pieces.

I really love this theme, especially for the fact that it will be bringing the world's ~10 best Rock'n'Roll Bionicle MOCs to one place, when the theme for Brickfair this year is music. What better way could BZP represent our brand? :)

I hope for the sake of BBC that this isn't more of the same. The last contest had less than 30 entries.

See this:

It's not about man-ning up. Why join a contest that has no entertainment value to you? There's no incentive. Except prizes, and those haven't been announced.

Themes shouldn't always being about entertaining or catering to people. Sometimes a theme should force people out of their comfort zone as that is when people are at their most creative (that is to say, they are forced to break from the norms) and in that regard, generate entertainment for people following the contest. If we wanted to go by what the majority wanted, we'd simply pump out one free build after another which would be uninteresting and dull. Also and issue with this contests theme doesn't seem to be a build issue as much as it is "I don't like rock music." That's fine, but why is that prohibiting you from creating something or still enjoying the theme?

We've sent two contests to conventions already: contest #38 at Brickfest and contest #50 at Brickfair. Both were rousing successes on and off BZP. There may be some AFOLs out there who talk a mean talk online, but on the convention floor, most people can't help but be blown away by what people can build from Bionicle. The only real issues encountered in these contests have been ones of logistics.

>implying build 80s and build rock aren't basically free builds

seriously, do something like the old days where you had to include x, y, and z pieces, THAT inspires people to be creative

They aren't. Both are quite restrictive.

Also, they just did a contest where people had to use specific parts. BBC 56 if I'm remembering correctly. Which ever one had the blue axlepins and red axles.

I love your methodology of indirectly arguing with me. It's easier to argue with someone when they aren't there to counter, isn't it?

No, they aren't basically frebuilds. You are being forced to build something within a very constrained conceptual space. You cannot simply build whatever you want, unlike a piece restriction event which either says "build whatever you want as long as you include/don't include this piece or set of pieces."

No, it doesn't inspire anything. Look through the entries of those types of contests. You'll find more often than not people just tack on those pieces as an afterthought to simply meet the demands.
