Jack Workman was the type for going off on his lonesome, so when his boss asked him to stay behind to close up tonight, he offered no complaints. "Closing up" was really just shorthand for "lock the doors, turn off the lights, count the money in the registers, put it in the safe, read whatever books you want, and go home. Be sure to be back by noon tomorrow for work".
So Jack stayed behind, staying till his China-made wristwatch told him it was about eleven in his timezone, and quickly got his done so he was able to leave at eleven thirty.
Which he did. Which was why he was walking home at eleven o'clock at night.

Kristen just patted Julia on the back, waiting until she stopped to speak.
"Better?" She asked, pulling away somewhat to look into Julia's eyes.
-
Ic:
Julia quickly found herself in a hug.
"Trust me when I say you're not up," Kristen said into her ear.
"How do I know? Because that thing you're feeling right now? That's regret. That thing you felt earlier? That was adrenaline. A rush. A buzz. Fighting makes people feel alive, no matter what the outcome. Someone who's up doesn't feel regret, or remorse, or fear. They just keep killing. People who are up turn themselves into murder lizards and eat the bodies of the people they kill. So trust me when I say you're not up. Because I can tell you're not. You're just sorry. And that's a regular human being's feeling."
-
Ic:
"Well, I'm not going anywhere," Kristen said immediately, sitting down aside her.
Her mother once talked to her about doing the right thing, and how everyone had a moment where they truly helped someone. She wondered if this was that moment.
-
Ic:
"But what?" Kristen asked. She didn't understand what Julia was being so hesitant about.
-
Ic:
"What if I talked to him for you?"
-
Ic:
"He'll come back around. He always does," She said with a smile, "He has a lot on his mind all the time, even though he doesn't act like it... Just let him cool down. If it helps, food and stolen cars makes a great peace offering."
-
Ic:
please. if i ever get "lucky", it must be the end of the world.
"I think he'll be fine. He has Rebekah with him. As well as a wolf. And Tali isn't far off. And considering how we ultimates always seem to be getting dragged back together, Ashley isn't far off either," Kristen said, putting her phone back where it belonged.
"It's just a few cops. We've handled a alien invasion, I think they'll be fine."
-
Ic:
Kristen's phone buzzed.
"Sorry," she said as she grabbed her phone, frowning as she did, "Dal is trying to pinpoint me..."
relax, im with Julia.
-
Ic:
"... Yea, you're probably right. I'd probably just wake you up in the middle of night after a nightmare or something," She said, rubbing the back of her head, "Just offered, since it's technically Tali's... But she's never there..."
She cleared her throat, "So then you'll find your own room then?"
-
Ic:
"Well, my room does have a spare bed," she offered.
-
Ic:
"Yea, well at least you had powers, with Joey I couldn't really-"
Her face flushed and she shook her head, trying to keep the conversation focused on Julia.
"So, now what are you going to do? Are you going to go back to the institute?"
-
IC:
So they went left.
"So... I see you haven't been needing to hitchhike anymore..."

Kristen slowly slid off the bike, not sure if she was dismounting correctly. While Julia busied herself with a reply to someone, probably John, Kristen took the chance to quickly look out at the park. It was old with trees everywhere (duh), some of which had trunks that appeared twice as thick as her.
The park had two distinct trails for those who enjoyed walks in the park. They just so happened to start on the right, or the left.
"Hey Julia, right or left?" She asked, turning back to her fellow ultimate.
-
IC:
She thought about it for a moment.
"A walk in the park then. I've lived most of my life without money, I think I can stand not spending any for a few hours," Kristen said, blinking as she peered over Julia's shoulder.
-
IC:
"I've never even had my own money before... So what do you say we do with it?"
-
IC:
Kristen got back on the bike.
"So I have one hundred bucks now, what do you want to do?" Kristen asked, once they were away from John.
-
IC:
Kristen also received a hundred dollars.
*Her first one hundred and five dollar bills.
"Smoking kills you John!"
-
IC:
Apparently John has secret skills of paper folding to make an paper airplane out of money.
She quickly reached out and grabbed her first five dollars ever.
-
IC:
If she could, smoke would be rolling out of her ears as she strode back to her bike.
"I'll never get a lucky break..." She grumbled, hands balling into fists.
-
IC:
"Yes."
-
Ic:
Kristen grabbed his handcuffs and easily crushed the chain with her robotic arm.
"That'll be one hundred dollars."
-
IC:
Kristen followed suit, calling out, "don't worry! I know something that can help!"
-
IC:
"We should go help them," Kristen suddey said to Julia, "They're in an alleyway by 158th, across from the Bp gas station."

"Not a problem," Kristen said with a smile, blushing as she peered into Julia's eyes.
