  1. The 2007 joints are the main issue because of the stress put on those pieces when you put in and remove the ball. The only other piece that's an issue is the curved technic beam, which can break with enough stress in the axle holes; luckily, that's usually not a problem.
  2. It's a pity about the lime green fiasco in 2007, since the three main affected sets (Hahli, Ehlek, and Lesovikk) were all pretty great ones otherwise. No, those are even worse! The designs were not sturdier. They were an attempt to use as little plastic as possible while still providing some functionality. The joints used in the Keelerak set from '05 are the same design as the '07 ones, but of far superior plastic quality. Replace them with those instead. That's how we fixed my brother's Hahli. They are sturdier, but that's because the plastic quality is better. 2007 had a bad batch. 2008 has a worse design, but are still less likely to break because the plastic isn't nearly as brittle. And I completely forgot about Keelerak. Yeah, definitely use those instead.
  3. If it's already put together and unbroken, it's fine as long as you don't take it apart or play with it. If you have to put it together but the box is sealed, it's probably fine as long as you put it together once with no mistakes. If it's loose and not put together, avoid like the plague. Putting Ehlek back together will probably snap the joints. The joints just break really easily because of the awful plastic quality. Worst comes to worst, use replacement pieces from 2008 (Mutran and Lewa). They're only slightly different in shape and are a lot sturdier.
  4. You did an awesome job of capturing the original set's bizarre body shape. The eyes really look crazy. Unfortunately there's so much black it's hard to look at the details. I think some grey to break up the black might help. Maybe some white tooth pieces instead of black. Also, the Y-joint hooves look a bit odd; I think the Roborider heads used for the original Kane-Ra's hooves would look great.
  5. One interesting thing is that Makuta physically transforms upon donning the Mask of Ultimate Power, becoming black and red and growing taller. It's almost as if the mask changes its host to look like some specific persona...
  6. 2015 Makuta was a jerk, but he was hardly the monster he was in G1. He made the Mask of Ultimate Power because he was envious and arrogant, not because he wanted to destroy or dominate others. The mask took control of him, so he didn't start destroying Okoto out of his own free will. If Makuta wakes up and doesn't have the Mask of Ultimate Power, I'm guessing he will either be a villain greedily trying to find his old mask or an anti-hero trying to make up for his mistake.
  7. For me, the Kaukau is the least of the problems with the Gali Mistika set. The overuse of silver (with horrendous silver-on-silver color layering), the lack of a creative Toa tool, and the bare Piraka torso are the real issues. One thing I like about 2015 Makuta is that he made the Mask of Ultimate Power not for the power it would give him, but rather just to prove he could make a better mask than Ekimu. That's a very petty and personal goal, and a big change from the more power-hungry G1 Makuta.
  8. Perhaps the villains are redeemed and join the heroes? Think Vegeta from Dragonball. So you can either use them as heroes or villains, depending on which time frame you have them in.
  9. The shape of the tail reminds me of leaf-tailed geckos. Really neat design that fits the jungle environment well.
  10. Congratulations! I can only speak for myself, but I would keep a trophy like that in the most pristine condition possible. How so?
  11. I pose the ones I have in both modes. Lewa especially seems to look good in both. One thing's for certain, the alternate modes are a massive improvement on the Nuvas'. Tahu, Kopaka, and Gali were fine, but Lewa's alternate mode was just comical.
  12. POWAAAAAAAAH Wow, the voice-acting is simultaneously horrible and amazing. I kinda like Tahu's lack of experience and confidence. The animation art style is great, but it looks pretty awful when not properly animated (like the skull spiders slowly gliding along the background). Overall, I still enjoyed this episode more than the last one because at least things actually happened in it.
  13. Not the first human effigy to appear in Bionicle; there's one on the left of Vakama's hut in MNOG.
  14. Not a fan. All the characters have the exact same proportions, removing their individuality. Onua is painfully thin and the Protectors are as brawny as the Toa they serve. The action is poorly conveyed with various inconsistencies like Onua suddenly being outside at the end of his comic. Not only that, but there are some hilarious inaccuracies like Lewa's shoulders being incorporated into his mask. They practically look like traced Transformer comics. The Protectors have the proportions of Autobots.
  15. Both French and Spanish names are printed on the back, the Spanish text is just smaller.
  16. MNOG II is too ambitious for its own good. The game is obsessed with detailed worldbuilding, and unfortunately a lot of the details are just plain uninteresting. Simply getting out of Ga-Koro requires completing numerous fetch quests, reading through pages of dialogue, and farming trading materials. It's realistic for Hahli to go through all of that effort, but it's not fun to play. And despite the massively increased depth of MNOG II, the actual stakes feel lower. There aren't any Rahi attacks or Toa heroics to spice things up. Then you get to Kohli. Kohli sucks. And then the game glitches. The game glitches so much.
  17. They're the old Bionicle hand pieces/shoulder pieces/Throwbot shins/whatever you want them to be!
  18. I find the TTV review format bizarre. It seems like it would be much more natural to just go by section and list the pros and cons for that section (I.E. When talking about the color scheme, talk about both the good and bad). I do like how they show off the set in-hand though; as someone who has never seen Kardas in person, it's interesting seeing how the set works. OAFE's reviews for the old Bionicle toys were pretty good for a non-Lego fan perspective. Hoping they'll soon cover the newer sets. Jangbricks is also a pretty good review channel.
  19. It pretty much is. It was the the theme that introduced it and used it consistently through its run (barring 1.0). That's kinda like saying the previous constraction style equaled Throwbots. Obviously Hero Factory is very associated with the CCBS, but I think as more time goes on with Bionicle, we'll see CCBS more associated with it. That said, I'm very glad to see the old Y-joints haven't been abandoned. Even with a new snap-together system, they're still versatile pieces that are core to Bionicle.
  20. I'd take that any day if it means that we see some actual bright colors. Lewa looks positively vibrant compared to anything from 2004 to 2008 outside the Barraki and Visorak, and he's practically half-silver. Part of that is the set's big smooth shells serve as good sources of the brighter colors, while silver is restricted to the more detailed shapes. Also, the masks designs for 2015 look wonderful. At first I wasn't enamored by Lewa's very different Miru, but the smile in the mask design won me over. I think my favorite mask designs (with a few exceptions like the Arthron and the Great Rau) are from 2001, but 2015 certainly is one of the better years. Way better than 2002's awful Nuva masks for updating the original Kanohi. On a side note, mentioning the Arthron made me remember how good Jaller Mahri was. The fun crab, the amazing color scheme, the unique armor pieces, the sword, the mask, he was just a very solid canister set and was the best of the Mahri by far.
  21. I'm not really interested. Mini-dolls just aren't as appealing as mini-figures to me.
  22. Picked up Lewa, Master of Jungle. He looks wonderful with that bright green and yellow and I have loads of fun swinging his arms around. The inability to look up sucks, but he does look very imposing with the weird hunchback and shoulder harness he was given.
  23. It would have made me more interested in the 2009 sets than the Inika build, that's for certain.
  24. On the minus side, the eyes don't shine very well under light. The main reason is the red axle piece; I think making it out of clear plastic would fit the issue.
  25. I like the style. There's a dynamism to it despite the thickness of the limbs; Zaktann particularly looks way more expressive in your art than I've ever seen him. Menagi is one of the best original Toa designs I've seen; he feels distinctive but not out-of-place or over-the-top compared to the original designs like many OCs. The only thing that I dislike is the way the mouths look on Lewa and Gali. There's something really unnerving about a fluid human-like smile on a very rigid and inhuman face.
