  1. I'm so mad at all the detail you have going on in this thing. Like it wasn't just enough to make a massive MOC, you had to go and do things like make a scaled up Metru-ish head to go behind the mask. Incredible.

Thanks! Well you know what the say. Go big or go home.

  2.

So is the mask is really from the Toa Terrain Crawler?

    Indeed it is.
How did you do a blue-shaded inner layer for the mask when the inner part that came with the set was red?

The piece came in a trans light blue with a Aquaraider set from 2007. I was originally going to go for the trans red but when i realized it came in the blue shade just like the smaller version of the mask i just new I had to use it.

  3. I'm not the only one getting Gorm vibes, right?

Funny thing about that no. People outside of here have come to the same thought and honestly there is quite the resemblance. Completely by accident but I don't mind it. I've actually always liked Gorms look as purple has always been my favorite colour. Main reason I chose purple, if you are gonna go big chose the best colour.

  4. This is so cool! I love the comparison to yourself when you were younger, it really adds to the post. Thank you for gracing my eyes with such a beautiful creation!

Thanks, glad you like him! I just wish I had taken the pictures a little sooner as I could of taken it in the exact same spot.

  5. Well only starter this two and a half years ago and finished it two years ago. Yeah been sitting around before I actually got around to taking pictures.

He by no means is perfect as he has a lot of gaps, proportions are a little weird, back isn't cover up and he has some stability issues (but not many). However I am very happy how it turned out as I had not attempted to create a MOC this large since 2008 with on old OLD creation.

Dentar was an extremely talented Makuta with his ability in making intelligent rahi. He also hated toa, more so than most Makuta as he saw them as inferior and thought that the Makuta should of been the protectors of the Matoran. So he rebelled against the rest of the Makuta to start working on a species that there only purpose would be to kill toa. He made his laboratory at the very bottom of the universe far away from everyone on an island named Mutani Nui.  Over a couple thousand years he had created a new species that were just what he needed. The Urapun. Unfortunately before he could act with his new found army he was destroyed by the Great Beings leaving only a giant crater with no trace of the events of what had transpired. The Urapun survived never knowing there true purpose.

  6. Maybe it's just hard to tell from a photo but I'm having a hard time registering that sword, the color mixing seems kinda messy. I quite like the foot-wheel conversion and dynamite bandolier though!

There is a photo of just the sword in the Flickr page. Also if it's looking a little rough that was slightly intentional as I tried to make it look like a crytal blade.

  7. Been a while since I posted my last system theme inspired bionicle moc. However in honour of now owning all the Power Miner sets I think it's time to post this fella. Power Miners might be my favorite system theme (it's hard to say) so I just new I had to do a Bionicle/Power Miner mashup.

First of for those who may think he is part of my "Toa Pretenders" https://www.flickr.com/photos/125839668@N07/albums/72157693971768724 he's note. However they do know of him and have had encounters.

He is a little rough around the edges but I feel that is perfect for a character inspired by mining equipment. Originally I had him with just wheels then I thought it would be cool if he could have wheel pop out form his legs. Really not to good but I intend to get a better system figured out at some point. However the sword I do like.

  8. So I may still have other "system space themed" mocs to post but they can take a brake as I need to take new pictures. However I have for you folks a different kind of system based creation.

I present Princess Storm of the Knights Kingdom!

27118008317_55edcf5bce.jpgPrincess Storm by Paul Joosten, on Flickr

So after getting a second copy of the Praetorian Guard for another project I was left with a extra red skirt piece. It didn't take long for me to know what I had to do.

For those who don't know Princess Storm was a castle minifig from the original Knights Kingdom theme from 2000.

For most of her I am happy but her helmet leaves me wanting more. If I can find a better design I would use it but for now I am content.

  9. I, too, have always been a great fan of M:Tron, and think your MOC fits the color scheme well. Nice use of the Nynrah Ghost Blaster, too.

Thanks. I may not of grown up with it but with Bircklink I discovered it and kinda adopted it.

  10. The asymmetry really fits this theme, which I recall being very busy and unfinished looking. Always smile when I see Pohatu's Kaukau being used! Is a Futuron MOC on the way?

Thanks. Futuron I don't currently have one but I have plans on changing that at some point. Who knows when that could be though.

  11. I really dig that color scheme! Nice use of the trans-orange liftarms.

Some of the gears look more natural than others--the ones on the thighs break the flow for me, whereas the bohrok liftarm/bevel combo on the upper arms is really nice. The flip-up crown gear on the forearm is very cool.

I'm loving the very retro visor enhancement.

Thanks. Yeah looking at the legs now I am less sure of the gears.

  12. Continuing with my system space theme inspired Bionicles who are Toa pretenders. Flicker Album- https://www.flickr.com/photos/125839668@N07/sets/72157693971768724 The next on the list is the Robo-Force (a space theme from 1997)

As the one who came up with the idea Stalker is a schemer and tends to always think things threw before making an decisions. He is quite technically gifted and as a result pretends to be a toa of iron due to matoran of iron be known for their technical skill. Plus he really didn't want to change his armor colour. Sadly unlike Emtrone he has no natural abilities so he is more careful when it comes to boasting about his "toa abilities".

Side note his title "Robo-Schemer" is a acknowledgement of the Robo-Force theme as every set name was "Robo-Insert word here-". So it was more for fun than to make sense. Also because of what theme he is inspired by i tried to make him slightly more mechanical looking.

  13.

The real reason, outside of canon: because the Toa Norik set was meant to be a Toa Dume set, just as Toa Iruini was meant to be Toa Nihdiki.

Masks stopped making any sense after the umpteenth retcon, so not only doesn't shape determine power, they themselves have no power but "amplify the power within the user" or some nonsense which should make the powerless/noble/great distinctions pointless, but doesn't, somehow.

I must be behind. When was this ever stated? And how does that make any sense when we know mask powers are determined by what combinations of Kanoka are used to make them?

Someone here on BZP discussed this some time ago and had a Greg discussion post as a source, I do not recall the exact wording but the colossal kerfuffle around what/how/why masks do/work always rubbed me up the wrong way and that particular retcon is one of my least favorite. It's like the mask is a "lens" to concentrate the inner power or whatever of the user, and some beings possess the potential or this innate ability to activate masks (Toa), some to a smaller extent (Turaga) and some don't (Matoran).

The masks themselves having power, and users requiring a certain amount of mental aptitude and talent in their use made more sense IMO.

    :kakama:

I hadn't ever heard of this retcon and desided to go to BIONICLEsector01 for reference and from what I could discover is that masks still work the same way as it take mental will power. I don't think that ever changed. I couldn't find anything that said different.

Now you also said it's like a "lens" to concentrate their inner power and such. I think this is just making me think how toa loose a lot of strength with out their masks as well as it amplifies their elemental power when they wear there mask as compared to when they aren't wearing them. If this is what you meant then great we are on the same page but I'm not finding anything that has been retconed from what has been established from the early years of bionicle. I think the only thing that has changed is the fact that shape doesn't matter when it comes to power. Only the power level of disk and which type of disk.

So yeah, Norik's mask was shaped like a different mask - same thing with Krakua's Hau shaped Suletu.

    :kakama:

If I am correct it was Krakua and his mask that started this whole issue. All this makes me think is if a Ta matoran wanted to be a jerk he would make all his great masks look the same.
