Well, since this year's probably going to be the last year that I'll actually buy anything Bionicle-wise, I might as well go out with a bang. Therefore, my Christmas list looks something like this at present.
Mazeka Rockoh T3 Takanuva ...because I'm too cheap to buy them now. So, yeah. Which brings me to the question of why Mazeka's mask is silver. Recolouring it would've been nice, and LEGO has proven they can do that rather easily with three of last year's Matoran. Now Mazeka looks out of step with the other eight Matoran of this year. A gunmetal or white Volitak would've been good, but in dark blue-grey, it would've won, mainly because there has never been a mask in that colour. NEVER. Having said that, his box art makes it look as though he has a gunmetal mask.

They look pretty good (those recoloured energy crystals are loaded with AWESOME), though having retained a similar colour scheme to the EPIC WIN originals would've been nice. But since they're in the general vein of Rock Raiders, I am compelled to get my hands on them.

    Or, for the unschooled, NCIS.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, NCIS is the single most awesome thing on TV right now. It's such a dramatic departure from the average crime show; the characters have depth and are all awesome, there's a good deal of humour without overriding the drama and seriousness, and the stories behind episodes never cease to win.

Ziva and Dr. Mallard are WIN.

Lai bought Toa Ignika. I've had a decent look at it, and here are some thoughts.
The Toa himself is probably one of the better designed Pirakamod sets I've seen (besides the Piraka themselves ). He could've used some armour on the torso, but his shoulders are armoured very nicely. The Skyboard, in sheer size, is EPIC. It is seriously not what I expected, especially after the typical size of sets that price. True, most of the parts are pretty large, but really, the underside is quite intricate. Not on the level of the Bahrag, but still... The Mask of Life wasn't quite what I was expecting. I thought that perhaps it would be a bit rounder, and it's not as big as everything made it out to be. It's still pretty cool though. Now, back to that Darkrai... Need I remind you lot?

Now we've got more decent pictures of the '09 sets, again I'll critique. I'll randomly pick out stuff I want to comment on, rather than doing as I did earlier. Unsurprisingly, spoilers abound.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «Firstly, my revised opinions on the small sets. Some of the recoloured parts are of sheer WIN, but others (and the recycled parts) are kind of off-putting. What I quite like the look of, though, are the faces/masks/helmets; one of Atakus's in green would be perfect for a Nidhiki revamp, and most of the others (particularly Raanu's) look awesome. Berix's is just plain weird, though. By the way, Zesk looks win, and is excellently posed.
As for the Glatorian themselves, my opinions are mixed. For one, I'm glad that the Zamor never came to be, and it looks like these new launchers can be built, to some extent. That's something. Now, I'll do this one-by-one.
Skrall has lost any appeal he ever had to me; he looks just plain weird. While on the subject, I swear I've heard the name "Skrall" somewhere before... Malum's claws are not as awesome as they originally appeared, and it's a pity they didn't fix the Kalmah-foot-shoulder issue; it was still done failingly. Gresh, well... his prototypical version was SO much better. We just lost a whole heap of recolours, and now he simply fails. Tarix looks... okay, to say the least. His blades are awesome. Strakk is pretty good, but his shoulder armour stuff is attached funnily, like Malum's, except not as dodgy. It's not so bad, but still odd. Vorox is absolutely full of WIN. Do I see a bit of brown on him? As for the titans, they still both look like clumsily designed EPIC FAIL.

Firstly, my parents and sister are back from Tasmania. According to them, it was AWESOME. Now I think I want to live there. (Picture to be added later)

Secondly, saw Wall-E today. The way I see it, Wall-E is a stalker and EVE (?) is a homicidal maniac. But it's still a brilliant film, and arguably the best thing Disney has come out with in the past four years. Sadly, the experience was marred with a horrible advertisement for High School Musical 3. Can't Disney just give it up?

Thirdly, I have decided that I'm somewhat pro playing Brawl as Marth and Zero Suit Samus.

Okay, remember what I was saying about not buying any 2009 sets? Well, I may have changed my mind.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «You see, apparently Vorox (in all his tan glory) has a Toa Mata foot on his back. IN TAN. Now, repeat after me: MAHA MOC. I'm not sure yet, but that might sway me into buying him. Whether or not this'll happen remains to be seen.

Okay, so you've got an annoying, overexcited teenage girl with an annoying high-pitched voice, sticklike figure and an equally thin, girly-named sword. What do you do? Why, you beef her up and let her obliterate stuff, of course!

So, I should be more specific. Mist here is Ike's younger sister. She's unique, being one of only two characters in the entire series (as far as I know) who can use both weapons and magic, albeit just swords and staves. She comes in the Cleric class which, in Radiant Dawn at least, is unique to her.

Anyway, the whole point of this is to inform you lot of one simple fact. Mist may look weak when you get her, and indeed she is for a while. At that stage, it's best to give her a supporting role like you would an archer or mage. Conveniently, she comes with the unique Florete which, being a magic sword, attacks over distances, and is also stronger than a Silver Sword. Eventually she'll promote, and that's when she becomes AWESOME. She'll get a horse, subsequently getting the awesome Canto skill and superior speed. Then she is a brilliant unit for the harder levels, though still a bit fragile on the defensive front. In the Endgame, I gave her the Alondite.

Kind of a pity about that annoying high-pitched voice of hers, though.

Just when I finish an awesome MOC, I remember that my parents took the camera with them to Tasmania... Curiously, at the same time, it turns out they took my sister.

    And yet more 2009 discussion...

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «That Tuma set looks like such an appalling mess. Heck, it looks like Lai designed it. And, OH DEAR LORD, please tell me that that's not yet another black Great Ruru it's wearing.
On the plus side, the launchers aren't mere Zamor rehashes. Yay. But I'm still not bothering with the 2009 sets, judging from what I've seen, and I'm particularly avoiding Tuma.

So, now we've got relatively clear pictures of the '09 sets, I've taken the liberty of going through the lot and dissecting them verbally to present my opinion for some random reason. For obvious reasons this entire entry's in one huge spoiler tag.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «Note that I'm referring to all sets as male characters until further notice, because I couldn't be bothered guessing properly.
    The Canister Sets
    Malum
Man, he's bulky. In which case, it's kind of a good thing, unlike the lack thereof of a certain Onua Mistika I know. Those new claws look quite interesting, but I'm not sure why there's a Visorak foot on them. His shoulders are appalling, though. Those Kalmah feet should never be used like that, and they didn't even try something better looking for them.

    Skrall
There's something about those fins that reminds me of pictures I've seen of the Roboriders. That shield of his looks sort of interesting, and it's nice to see what appears to be a new torso design, even if it is horribly scrawny and is still afflicted with the disproportionate shoulder problem. However, it doesn't really seem to come together very well; the weapons don't look in place with the thinness.

    Gresh
What is there to say? He's certainly eye-catching, unfortunately. He doesn't look particularly well-built, just thrown together using the lesser design aspects of various canister sets from the past. The placements of those Tahu-leg-claws are FAIL. His weapons look pretty cool, other than how they're being held. Also, I'm really beginning to get sick of lime.

    Tarix
On one hand, it's kind of nice to see new parts in light gold. On the other hand, Inika shoulder armour should NEVER be used as Inika chest armour. It leaves him looking a bit weird. Weapons are interesting, though.

    Strakk
Pretty much all I said about Tarix applies here. That new colour they employed on various bits of him is NOT appeasing in any way, especially in tandem with a darker blue.

    Vorox
Tan. YES. At last. I never understood why they didn't just do that for Pohatu, if they're using it this year. Anyway, that which appears to be new thigh armour looks quite good. I can't get a clear look at his chest, but it looks suspiciously like Inika chest armour. I'd like to like him, given his colouring, but there's something about him that doesn't quite look right...

    Overall
Let me just put it this way: those hands are HORRIBLE. They might have seemed like a good idea to begin with, but they were poorly executed. Also, I sincerely hope that the canister sets aren't really going to have Zamor Launchers. Please tell me that that isn't so. (Actually, I know otherwise; see below.) I'm still not interested.

    The Titans
    Fero and Skirmix
Darn, yet another Kardatoran clone... This one appears to make use of Skrall's blade things and (cringes) ANOTHER Zamor Launcher. As for Skrimir (any relation? ), well, it looks like both of the winter titans were thrown together haphazardly. It looks like a demented chicken. Seriously, its arms and legs are among the worst ever designed by LEGO, and the head doesn't really look much better. At least the body seems somewhat sturdy...

    Tuma
I can't get over how much his name sounds like Tuna or Tumour... Such a monumental mistake on LEGO's part... Anyway, since we've got several pictures of him, I'll base this critique on the two Target images. Put simply, he looks like FAIL. The legs are of a generic design remniscient of those of Gadunka, except the Inika feet as armour fails so hard. Even worse is the use of Mantax feet as shoulder armour. It fails in principle, and it fails even harder in practice. But at least his images indicate that the aboveflamed Zamor Launchers were merely placeholders, for more Kanoka-like launchers.

    Overall
    They both fail. Badly. Next!

    The Small Sets
I won't bother with individual critiques here, because there's not really any point.
Kardatoran rehashes... too much part reusage... bizarre heads... it all screams NO. Seriously, this is getting a bit ridiculous. You'd think that a recoloured Fire Sword would be appreciated, but there's something about it that makes me feel sick. The few new tools that exist are pretty good, though; I quite like the snowflake thing on Metus, despite the aformentioned disgusting new blue. Actually, some of the recolours of Kardatoran parts are quite nice. But the cons way outweigh the pros.

I'm probably one of the few people on BZPower who thinks this (yay minority ), but repeat after me: DO NOT WANT. Seriously, it's a good thing I was considering ditching the purchasing of Bionicle sets in '09 before seeing any vestige of them, as now I'm certain about this. No Bionicle for Dlakii in '09.

I'll still follow the story, though, and it's not like I'm leaving BZPower any time soon.

    ....erm, I mean, school!

So, in case you haven't guessed yet, I started school again earlier this week, this being my last term in Year 10 and in high school in general. I won't bore you with the details, though, but instead get to what's sort of important at present.

Firstly, the issue of various stuffs I need to do here on BZP - comics, spriting, MOCs. I'm getting immensely lazy again, and so haven't really done anything. Emzee and '95, I'm sorry I'm taking so long, but at least you'll get something by the end of the year. If any Heroes peoples are reading this, I'm trying to work on something, but I don't really have any good ideas at present, so I could take a while; I AM working on a comic, though. As for my own comics, I promise at least Chapter 7 of LIGHT by the end of October, but I'm having trouble writing that as well. In short, everything here is looking sort of messy.

On a slightly related note, Dreiken's started writing comics again. Yay. If anyone's wondering why I said that, it's because Dreiken and his works were the main reason I started comic making to begin with, and I'd say he's improved significantly since then.

Also, my parents and sister will be going to Tasmania in a couple of days, for some sport thing for my sister. I must be a terrible elder brother, to not remember what it is they're going for. I'll still be here in Canberra, unfortunately.

I've got this funny feeling that there's something I should be doing right now, but I don't know what it could possibly be.

Finally, using tutorials by bonesiii, I've started experimenting with vector art. IN POWERPOINT. Imagine how awesome that could turn out if I get good, and if I then implement it into comics... Here's my first test with this, a crude Kanohi Avohkii.

    So, yeah. Stuff happened.

Promising news, indeed; if Europe gets it earlier, let alone this year, it might mean that Australia won't have to wait anywhere near as long, given that the two are in the same region (PAL). And for those of you who still don't know what I'm talking about, that article sums the Fire Emblem series up pretty well.
