I really would argue that point. Frankly, people claim that life itself is a game. Others claim that it is a story. Other people claim that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or as bonesiii would say it: We all have our tastes, and there's nothing wrong with that."

 

An RPG, by definition, is a game, but I do prefer the de facto meaning where the users in the TBRPG treat it like an epic. There are many story tellers, all telling different points of view of the same story, or stories that are roughly connected.

 

As you can see, I agree and disagree on some of your points. Particularly, the idea that an RPG has to be a game.

What I was mostly referring to is when a player takes control of other players' characters simply for the sake of making his little side-story as big and "epic" as possible, because he wants the RPG to be his own story.

 

I will not deny that an RPG has a story, however, it is not a story in and of itself, for one player to write and others to occasionally contribute.
