A distopian future with augmented humans and a hunk of a protagonist? Oh yeah, just ask BD if that ain't awesome.

But aparrently that hunk goes by the stagename of Voltaire in RL and sings dark cabaret songs about the lack of lavatories on the Enterprise.

Vader: "See-threepio, Artoo never told you what happened to your creator."
C-3PO: "He informed me sufficiently. He told me you killed him."
Vader: "No... I am your creator!"
C-3PO: "No... no... That's not true. That's impossible! The odds against you being my creator are..."
Vader: "Search your feelings, You know it to be true."
C-3PO: "Noooo!! You see, sir, shortly after the Jedi were wiped out, my memory was erased. So that could explain why I'm having difficulty verifying your statement."

You'd think videogames and homework are two things mutually exclusive. Well, unlike the devision by 0 this is actually something possible.
Our task over the next two weeks will be to write a scientific (!) paper on a topic of our choosing relating to video-games.

We already figured out the questions/topics. The current milestone will be the introduction.

PS: Also, we are going to get our PC's the middle of this week It is time to bring Crysis to school it seems.

PPS: You won't believe me when you see what has been waiting in my mail today! Pictures pending til next entry ^^

Maybe some of you will remember this entry from a few weeks back?
Yesterday was the final day of working on the characters we designed for the module. There will be a presentation on Monday and I need to hand in my character-sheet then as well, but the important part is that it is finished:

Some people from the courses above us said that my charie probably was the most detailed figure as it is relatively small compared to others.

To top things of we decided to take some quality photos of our models and used our studio there. As it turns out, I am quite comfortable with using aa professional camera. ^^

I guess I am jumping aboard the bandwagon here and will sum up the last year for a bit as well, and also what it means for this year.
Simply put, last year has been great. It has been a year of fun and a year of healing for me. A few that I let in more closely knew that the previous 2 years have been rough.
I finished college and went through a pretty emotional mayhem at the same time, with anger, desperation, love and all that jazz coming and going as they pleased.
That lasted through civil service, which was good because it numbed out all the other junk going on. I am very thankful that there were so many friends who put up with and helped me then. You know who you are and I thank you all deeply, even if you were just lending an ear from time to time or dropping a friendly comment.

The steady income was nice too and I saved up over 10k in that time. Some of that was from my Grandparents who always told me to save it up for "something special".
When I applied for my design-school luck came to me. The course I applied for took me, but would only start in the winter-semester. With civil service being finished before the summer I was faced with 6 months and nothing to do.
My parents suggested looking for a part-time job. I wanted that "something special".

The rest is a story that reached it's climax when I actually made it to Brickfair 2010, after a trip of adventures, lots of Hostels and most importantly awesome time hanging out with some of the most wonderful people I have met so far. It wouldn't have been the same without you and while hanging out with me can be tedious at times (mainly due to me) I want to thank you all again for letting me stay or just hanging out.

The trip really recharged the batteries and that uneasiness and unhappiness I dragged with me from 08 probably got dumped in the Pacific somewhere or lost it's way in the Rockies.

Back home I started my gamedesign course. I do not know how this came to be so awesome, but I have never missed a day there and I enjoy going there every day since it started. Our teachers are cool and the people from the course are likewise very awesome.

All that set the scene for this year. And I am pretty much ready to tackle anything now, thanks to quite a few of you.

I have my resolutions too, but this entry is already long enough for my tastes.

So with that let me wrap this up, apollogize for not writing more coherently and thank you all again for being this awesome. I hope 2011 has good things in store for you!

I am not a fan of games that get released together with movies to boost sales figures, as a rule of thumb. Production is often rushed to meet the deadline and as such those games are generally infested with bugs.

What a pleasant surprise the latest Prince of Persia was.
The game was released a bit earlier then the movie and the titular prince is not Jake Gyllenhaal, but the nameless Prince from the Sands of time trilogy.
Action takes place somewhere between Sands and Warrior within as far as I know, but that's not important.
While the PoP from 08 was the graphically most beautiful thing next to Crysis to be installed on my PC, it lacked in story and repetitive gameplay and quick-time events.

Forgotten sands had a bit of the same vibe for the first hour where I thought it might drift off into the "you are all alone with nobody around and now you shall jump and run through giant puzzle-rooms". While that is certainly an element present in the game, it is not dominant. There's sections that require spot-on timing, without QTE's. Instead there are deadly traps and later on there's loads of enemies in between.
Speaking of enemies: They are many. In the first room I barely fought 4 of them only to be faced with 20 of them two rooms later. They get easier to dispatch over the course of the game but their number gives off an epic feel. And they give off life, so to maintain health you gotta stick your sword to the baddies. And vases.
I don't want to know how much worth of china the Prince broke in this game.

Also defeated enemies give off points for levelling up. There's 4 different powers to be used during combat, plus three powers that are used during getting around. One is the ability to solidify water, one is the manifestation of memories (as in, "there used to be a stair here" *press ALT* "Oh THERE it is!") and the old-time favourite: Winding back time if you happen to plummet into a pit of spikes. Which happens. A lot.

    Well...it did to me.

Now to wrap this up, I'll just say this thing really ended in an epic way. And by epic I mean EPIC. Fighting a godzilla-sized monster in the ruins of a temple in the middle of a sandstorm that has part's of the Persian temple flying around and you jumping around on them?

    YES

I'm off. Gotta get the sand washed out of my ears.

On December 12th, Shire-year 2010 in the 3rd age of middle-earth, 9 companions will set out to view all three LotR-movies in one night.
And we'll have snacks and lots of caffeine for the night until we get out of the cinema around 4-ish.

    Good times are ahead ^^

Our current project until January is plastilin modelling a creature. We're only into the second week of it and the things each of us is working on are coming along nicely. Of course the tables are only filled with conversations about wonky proportions, internet meme's and geeky game-talk
And here's my pet for the project. Ain't he cute!? ^^

Oh and it is snowing again! <3

    Drive safely everyone!

Procrastination sucks. Especially if the procrastination consists of serious mocing which left me faced with having to write the last 4000 words of my story in less then three hours.
November is one of those months that need a 31st.
But it is done. Thanks to fast-paced soundtrack and a sudden increase in the ability to write coherent sentences while typing fast.

I shall celebrate by bombing bad guys from high altitudes with highly explosive bombs dropped from hyper modern jets, aka HAWX2...or I could defeat an evil army of sandy soldiers in Persia. Or fly a sweet helicopter armed to the teeth...

And so the cowboy rides off into the sunset again.

There you are, totally immersed in the movie happening in front of your eyes and then this happens:
*Light goes on, a guy is standing next to the controls*

    "Excuse me, everbody!"

    *Stops movie*

"But we've got a problem and we have to clear out the whole building."

But everybody got a free ticket to come back another day...

Do you sometimes come online and realize you've been in robot mode for two weeks and neither checked friend's profiles, RPG topics or the front-page?
I feel like a stranger on the website that I've been with the longest... -.-

No, not the Pilgrim movie, that's a close second, I'm talking bout the project us gamedesigners at my college are currently working on
Stay tuned for more info ^^ I'll try to post a collage of all the chara-designs by the start of next week!

I felt the big big need to put Nano on hold for a day and play through the 2008 Prince of Persia game again, which I only noticed yesterday, I never tried out on my newer PC, where it runs pretty smooth these days.
So, I just finished it an hour ago and again this feeling of a wasted opportunity has struck me.

What I did remember from the first play-through was the time it took to finish.
It is a really beautiful world Ubisoft created here, very innovative too and the basic plot was established pretty well, but why, why is this game so long?
To stop the evil god from escaping you have to fight is vassals. Sure, why not. But each of them six times? With little to no change of the mostly quick-time-event based combat? Ugh.
I combined the boring with the useful and played most of the game today during lecture without sound.
The game is just too long for the content it offers. My fllow aspiring game-designers agree, too.

I did like the twist-ending though. Love wins, at a cost.
But with all the time you invested to get this far, I was really annoyed at it too the first time, when the Prince just decided to undo your hard work of the last 50 hours.
They could have done much more with this new game after the Sands of time trilogy, but no dice.
And no sequel in sight... -.-

Oh well. Let's shelf this thing, put some art down for it *wink wink* and install Mirror's Edge instead

As you may or may not know I also will do the Nano this year again. After last years admittedly halfway quit on attempt, this year I have a plot, I have charachters and I think I can pull through with this one.
And I will start writing, right now. Don't expect me to be online much. Maybe a bit BZPRPGing inbetween (yay, more writing?).

    See y'all!
