  5. 1) Either the testing build or the 'final' build of The Legend of Mata Nui be released to the public. 2) Gen2 got some sort of adventure/exploration game for its first year 3) I actually scrounge up enough dedication to finish one of my fangames I also wish for the CBBS part buckets! I really enjoyed the Creatures Accessory and Exclusive Accessory tubs!
  6. replying to the opening post: By definition, a 'true' reboot can't really be a continuation at all. From wikipedia's article on the concept: "In serial fiction, to reboot means to discard all continuity in an established series in order to recreate its characters, timeline and backstory from the beginning." I also disagree with your opening statement suggesting reboots need to pull from existing lore to be good... Examples of rebooted series that come to mind (based on aggregated opinions) include Star Fox -> Star Fox 64, Prince of Persia -> PoP:Sands of Time, DOOM -> DOOM, Batman (by tim burton) -> Batman Begins, and let's not forget My Little Pony. Though, note that most of these reboots actually share plot ideas and character concepts with one another, whether a straight retelling or a re-imagining. In the second paragraph, you state that you don't like Gen2 if it were standalone. That's completely fine. You state that you'd like it better if it were a continuation of Gen1. That's also completely fine. Whether or not Gen1 and Gen2 are chronologically linked, the events of Gen2 don't change, only the context of them. For the brief discussion about whether Gen1 fully ended or not, I would like to point out that the overarching story told in Gen1, the story of Mata Nui, was concluded. From the events leading to his creation up through his death, up until the unfinished serials. I am comfortable with saying that LEGO decided to conclude Gen1 at a stopping point that made sense. Remember that Farshtey was not actually the top of the chain for Bionicle's story, he was just allowed to flesh out or change anything not explicitly told to him by the Bionicle story team in Denmark each year. And then for the debate of how 'deep' the lore is between the two, let's actually line up the sources of canon information that both generations have had in their first two years: So far, Gen2 has two graphic novels, a web animation series, a small tv series, two chapter books, no (canon) videogames, and assorted lore entries on the website. Gen1, as of the end of 2002, had a little over one year of bi-monthly comics, a web animation series, no books (Chronicles 1 was released in 2003 as did the Official Guide), two canon videogames (Tales of the Tohunga and MNOG), sparse media CDs, and assorted lore entries on the website. Jan 1st, 2002's state of the Gen1 lore was the GBA game, MNOG, and the three comics, with little overall overlap. Jan 1st, 2016's state of the Gen2 lore was two chapter books, a graphic novel, and the web animation series, with a lot of overall overlap. (If I'm forgetting something, please correct me.) This is conjecture, but i'd venture to say that the quantity of lore and story is about the same when redundancy is taken out, but the lack of games seems to make Gen2 lack the same immersion, as well as having less fans able to access a good portion of the 'main' section of the lore (ignoring BS01). A touch upon the previous post: Comparing LEGO's efforts in 2000 and 2001 to LEGO's efforts in 2015 to advertise the line, I want to say that LEGO went nowhere near the amount of effort this time as they did back then to hype the line, and they didn't have to: In 2015, the fanbase was the hype engine in itself, even before the official reveal. I also want to point out that the 'standard' LEGO has to live up to is different from person to person. Set-wise, the Protectors having the same mask mould and not having names is fine, you don't need them to play with them. But from a story standpoint, I agree that there is not really much to set them apart from the other villagers, and their names aren't really featured prominently in the media that most people interested in the line will see, and that disappoints me as well. However, the Matoran in 2001 and the first half of 2002 were pretty much exactly damsels in distress, needing rescue from the Toa, excepting Takua and his Company. In Gen2, the Protectors fill this role. All in all, whether or not anyone prefers or likes either gen, that's their opinion. Arguing opinions don't tend to change them. Believing what a creator says about their work is up to you, but that seems like a reliable source of information to me. That's why I think Gen2 is a reboot, because LEGO said so. Farshtey said that there was more to Gen1 after the comics ended, and people believe him...

  8. My stance is that Gen 1 is over, canon should have pretty much been locked in when the story was wrapped up. Locked from both Greg and the community making changes That being said, fan connections and fanon is fine to me. LEGO's all about creativity and imagination. Just be able to differentiate between fanon and canon

  11. The ad I found that mentions the Gamecube version. Don't quite know what or when it's from. The screenshot shown (below) has a different interface from the Deep Brick videos, having coins instead of UDD symbols in the upper right, a completely different graphic for health and energy, and instead of having just one Mask it has four spaces for masks, denoted with arrows: The advertisement specifies that this is a PC screenshot shown. Following that, we know that, at the very least, the Kopaka image originates from a similar point in time as this one, as the interface is the same, non-final one, with the sole exception of a different Miru image used: I'm assuming all of the images of Gali and Tahu floating around are also from ingame rather than promotional mockups, although these don't have any GUI to them. It's not uncommon during development for developers to have a debug menu where different levels can be started from, or they could've had a way to build the individual levels and run them for testing. Worst case scenario, if they needed to get to a certain point in the game they could mess with the save file, as they know how it was constructed.

I've done what non-detrimental digging I can on a game that was never released and that I have no contacts on For example, a side thing that I rarely hear brought up is the gamecube version that was worked on. Obviously it wouldn't come up much since it probably wouldn't be part of the beta test, but a few of the promotional screenshots of non-Onua characters have a different GUI and a grey d-pad in the bottom left corner, which makes me think they were from the Gamecube version (which was slated for release in Spring 2002) Also, if the full game assets ever came to be released, I have a bit of experience in picking apart content in games. I've even written a couple of articles (and forum posts here) about unused content i've found in the Online Games. Alternatively if I'm trying too hard to prove something please let me know x3
  15. Since most of what I know (and speculate) on the game comes from JrMasterModelBuilder, I'd point to him as being an "expert" on the game. I'd want to count myself too, but that's cheating I also notice Sir Kohran in most of the topics regarding the game as well.
  16. *Wall of text about Destiny incoming, probably tainted with opinion. keep scrolling if you don't care, and don't quote the whole post plz* The biggest problem with Destiny imo is, well, the story. Now, I've only kept up with the lore on the website leading up to release, and then played through the story (but haven't purchased any of the DLC yet)... I've read and heard that the original story was scrapped when the head writer guy left Bungie, but I don't think any definitive proof has come around for that. But it would make sense. No matter how you look at it, the story told in the game by itself is... pretty bare. Darkness is out there, the Traveler saved humanity. A little robot recreated you, and you are a Guardian and have some light. Now you're fighting alongside some other Guardians (except not really) to push back/defeat the darkness. That's totally fine as a premise. But when the game only adds a couple macguffins to that outline?.. You can't really deny it, the ending of Destiny is just.. Abrupt? Lackluster? Can't really even put it to words, it just ends. I'd assume if I had some of the DLC it would carry on like nothing happened. A more minor gripe, the in-level cutscenes where you talk with your lil Ghostie are a bit.. simple? The between-mission talks with various people are nice and cinematic, but the cuts to 3rd person for a couple of exchanged lines? kind of... random when it could easily be done in the first-person, or maybe should be done more like the other cutscenes to have a consistent quality to it... From a gameplay perspective? I enjoyed the campaign's gunplay and the way abilities work in it. The variety of movement options is definitely a step up from your standard FPS of the past decade, and the constant progression of using bigger and better weapons definitely feels nice. That being said, being aware of your environment and taking things cautiously can lead to having little to no risk of death. Not that death is much of a penalty, outside of certain areas you just lose progress in the current skirmish. There are really only two or three no-respawn zones that are much trouble in the campaign, but if you keep moving around they are surmountable yet. The enemies, however... There's a lot of different kinds of enemies, what with three or four different main "species" and each having a variety of "types" (using those terms loosely here), all in all each member of a species is defeated more or less the same, in the time-honoured tradition of shooting the weak point. That's not really much of a negative, everything feasibly has a weak point, but the encounter gameplay against almost any kind of enemy is simply shoot the weak point. Sometimes there's a big shield in the way, or an energy shield you need to DPS down first, but... all in all, despite having a large bestiary of enemies, there's not much variety in the fighting itself. Wouldn't be that much of a con if there was only, say, the Vex. The opportunity for a nice variety was present, but ultimately wasn't pursued. The multiplayer VS works well when all the characters are of a similar level. The intent seems to be that any two players should be able to play against each other, but if the name of the game was fairness and balance, we'd be getting another Quake. Guns of equivalent rarity seem to pit well against eachother online regardless of level, but when taking into account the added skills, rare equipment, and upgrades done to said equipment of higher levels, there's not really a fair and/or easy way to level the playing field without stripping players of abilities or gear. By itself, from the content offered by this game on it's own without DLC or research into topics, and its own presentation, I'd say the game would definitely be worth $40, could see it being $50 with the way prices have been, but... For all the hype garnered, for all the pre-orders, and for the reputation of the company developing it, I'd be lying to say that I wasn't dissappointed. What I ended up getting was less than I expected. When I installed and played the Beta, I did so expecting what I played to be a work-in-progress, to be an in-development snapshot of the game. When I was playing it, that's definitely what it felt like. But a few months later when I got the game and started it up... It was the same. The changes to the early game content, if it was there, was negligible. With the beta being just twoish months before the release, I probably should have known, but at that point, that's not a Beta. That's a Demo. Possibly a Release Candidate if you want to get technical. I noted to myself back then about some of the wonky mid-level cutscenes, thinking what all the small little thinks would be like when polished up for release. Except nothing was polished up. I had gotten really excited when reading through the development posts, learning about the "world that would evolve from how the players interact with it", would "change on it's own in ways we couldn't forsee", like some sort of dynamic MMO universe. They were taking the enemy variety they had in Halo and started back in the Marathon days, and splitting it up into different groups of enemies that didn't like each other either. Weapons and equipment that would grow with you and your skills, keeping things relevant for a while. The blogs had a line I liked, about looking back through your gear, and it telling a story. Everything leading up to the Beta was painting a picture. A grand, ambitious picture that would be a *Blam* of a game to play. Bungie had the ideas, the ambition, and also the funding to pull it off. What I ended up playing felt like the precursor to that, the Metroid to an intended Super Metroid. A Link to the Past compared to Ocarina of Time. The RoboRiders instead of Bionicle. Not necessarily a bad game, but not the groundbreaking amazing thing it was hyped up to be. Did I have fun playing it? For the most part, yes. Is it a bad game? In my opinion, not really. But it was underwhelming compared to what was promised to us. If Bungie had a couple more years to work on it, would it have been better? Who knows. Is it wrong for people to really like it as it is? Not at all, I think it's an okay game by itself. In comparison to Halo and Marathon, though? From 2 onward, the Halo series has always felt almost as polished and refined as a Nintendo game, just in the quality of content and such. Give me the choice between Halo 4 and Destiny? I'd happily play Halo 4. Destiny is a game I'd definitely play if I have an internet connection, but no other games for my 360... but there are many games that I'd enjoy playing more. Halo itself is pretty flawed too, don't get me wrong, especially seeing as a lot of gameplay and story elements from the first game was borrowed from the mid-nineties Marathon trilogy and then had to be retconned or just dealt with. Destiny, on the other hand, was attempted to be built from the ground up, a new IP, in the modern setting. Bungie was banking on Destiny lasting a decade with their continued support. Seems most of the initial community dropped off after a couple months, and I don't really blame them. TL,DR: My opinion is that Destiny isn't a bad game, but an overhyped meh game that probably hit a lot of speedbumps in development. Play something else if you like it better.
  17. Okoto from the cartoons for reference: note the area under the cloud in the CGI render is a darker, hilly area in the animation version. This dark is also used for the islands. Do I think there's ruins or something in there? Well, I don't deny it, we'll see. :3 As for the white lines, I'd chalk it up to whitecaps and such, since the water around there is much shallower. The curvy light section is definitely a beach.
  18. That's something I don't think many people seem to comprehend about G2's story so far. They're expect so much and getting mad just because there's not much of a story so far. That's the thing, we don't know. For all we know (this is just an example), Okoto could be located on Spherus Magna, and CCBS might be in use because that's what Spherus Magna's inhabitants look like (I know that's probably not the case, but then again, it's just an example of how much we don't know). I agree.. There's not that much substance to G2 yet, and I think trying to force the canon to expand or assigning it to be an extention of the G1 canon is kinda silly... If Lego hasn't said anything about it, I'm gonna chalk it up to cool box design. Like those things in the Toa Nuva rising promo art, in the protodermis with Tahu Were those things ever mentioned again officially or farshtey-wise?
