  1. Good enough for me then, thank you. =] Hopefully Greg is able to get around and read them, he's got to be a busy guy...
  2. Out of the more obscure Dark Hunters, probably Mimic because of his backstory. The idea of his best friend being hidden from him to keep him working was interesting to me.
  3. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it hasn't turned anything up...
  4. I immediately excluded Teridax since he would get my vote too easily, and instead went with my technical second favorite: Krika. There was just something about a "good" Makuta (at least compared to the others) that struck me the moment I first read about Krika, and made me consciously realize that he was definitely my favorite.
  5. A Hau might not really be all that useful to me personally, but if I was guaranteed one Kanohi, I would want a Hau for the pure nostalgic quality of it. Plus an energy shield is still pretty awesome.
  6. I don't want to be insensitive with this next question but, why are they not on BS01 then? I know they've had problems in the past getting some things up and running, but to my knowledge those stories are not anywhere to be seen on the website or in any of the pages that would have been effected by them. Again, I know that BS01 has been busy with a lot of things, so I don't want to be stepping on toes in asking. I can understand if they've just had a lot on their plate over there.
  7. If it makes you feel any better, I have to say that my opinion has been changed at least slightly by the arguments made in this topic. Starting out, as bad as I feel admitting it, I honestly never saw a problem with the gender ratios in Bionicle or the fact that a gender-element connection existed. Now, I'm starting to understand more and more where the other side is coming from, and starting to change my opinion. Especially the post that Kitania made about not having opportunities to identify with female characters in Bionicle due to their lack of, well...existence? True, there are many diverse and strong females in Bionicle in my opinion, but I'm starting to see that, as many as there are, there weren't enough for the legitimate number of female fans that became a part of the fandom. I can't say that my thoughts are completely changed, but you all HAVE made me at least question what I thought about this part of Bionicle. So, thank you I suppose. =]
  8. Are the stories that won the old "Thousand Years Untold 2" contest considered official canon, or did they get finalized around the end of Bionicle and the BZP downtime so that their canonization was blocked? Or did something else keep them from becoming canon? So far as I know there was an official winner chosen for each group in the contest, so I wondered what happened after that?
  9. Unfortunately I'm not quite sure where this may need to go, so if this is not the right forum for this question I apologize ahead of time. Anyway, my question is whether anyone has copies of the completed or uncompleted story serials made by fans over at Kanohi Journal? The website has been down for some time, but I wanted to actually read through some of the things written there, and figured it might be that someone has a digital copy they could pm or email to me. Again, sorry if this is the wrong place for such a question, or if this question is not allowed. =]
  10. I don't think anyone here is saying that you need to be? I think that the people who are posting here regarding their opinion that the canon system of gender isn't necessarily hugely sexist are doing so to explain why they believe that. Obviously, because they are presenting facts, they are forming an argument. And by the nature of arguments, it is meant to persuade you that their opinion is correct or valid, but I don't think that anyone here is saying that you must agree with them? If anyone here has given off the attitude that you NEED to think that Bionicle was never sexist, I believe they would be more than willing to apologize, since as far as I can tell that isn't what they are aiming to do... As a fan of MLP, I have to agree with you on this one. Bionicle did a great job later on in its writing to make their female characters much more dynamic than many male characters that have appeared in "Girl-Shows". Even compared to many female characters in "Boys-Shows", the women of Bionicle are fairly diverse despite not being as prevalent as the male characters. For starters, saying any fictional story where you're told the entirety of a fictional race is evil doesn't sound like sound grounds for anti-discrimination messages." Which race are you referring to? I would assume the Makuta, but we have seen that not only are some Makuta "good-guys", but also that there is a legitimate reason why the "bad ones" are bad. Teridax convinced them to betray Mata-Nui, they weren't all created as traitors and murderers, and not everyone in the Brotherhood even agreed with Teridax's plan. There were both loyal and "good" Makuta just as their were "bad" Makuta who chose to be so. I don't think they were written as "an evil race". We were given reasons for their evil, and examples of goodness within their race even after they chose to betray Mata-Nui (Krika). If you meant the Skakdi, I suppose that would be getting closer, but even then it has been stated that the Skakdi were relatively peaceful and normal until they were given incredible power and became more and more violent. In that case I would say that if "absolute power corrupts absolutely", then great power suddenly thrust upon an entire race of people can corrupt greatly.
  11. I was actually just going to start a topic discussing the reason for the Piraka and Jaller&Co making it to Voya-Nui just by getting into their canisters, so thank you fishers64 for that awesome info.
  12. How would Tuyet have gotten into the Codrex if the Energy Storms in Karda-Nui would have still been raging due to Mata-Nui still being awake and running?
  13. Ahh, that makes complete sense. Though do we have any canon confirmations of how the Mata's canisters worked, and why they chose to travel to Mata-Nui?
  14. But in the end, THEY weren't needed on Mata-Nui. The Toa Mata were destined to journey to Karda Nui and help Mata-Nui in the case of a necessary reawakening. It would have been nice if they helped the Matoran on Mata-Nui island, but that was not where they were most needed or where they were destined to go accept in case of a necessary entry into the MU from the outside. The Toa Mata were destined to reawaken Mata-Nui, so that would have been the need for them to fill. If the Toa Canisters could have gotten them straight to Metru-Nui, why would they go through the trouble of going to Mata-Nui island ever? Not to mention, even if the canisters' landing systems are based on places that are in need, the whole universe was in need when the Toa were launched. Nearly every island in the MU was either consumed in war or under Brotherhood control. I don't think the canisters worked off "need" because if they did they could and would have wound up anywhere in the MU, and Mata-Nui island would have been a strange choice for landing if getting to Karda-Nui was their next step.
  15. But if it's possible to default to Metru-Nui in the first place, why would they ever go outside the MU in the first place under other circumstances? If it was possible to simply have the Toa Mata appear in the MU, why have them launch outside the robot if it did happen to land?
  16. I'm torn between no and yes. Yes, if they had to all die off then they should have stayed dead or been given a better revival arc to feature in But also, no. I personally love the Visorak and don't think they should have been eradicated in the first place.
  17. Ok, so we know that in the Toa Empire universe, the Brotherhood never put Mata-Nui to sleep, meaning that Mata-Nui also never crash landed on Mata-Nui island. But we also know that it was stated in Dark Mirror that Tuyet managed to launch their canisters and cause them to join her armada. So... If MataNui never landed on Aqua Magna, how and where did the Toa Mata's canisters launch to and how did they get into the Matoran Universe. I was under the assumption that the Toa Mata canisters simply shot them outside the MU and then were meant to make their way to the face of the giant robot where the Toa would be able to enter into the MU. However if that is true then the Toa Mata would have been launched into...space(?) in the Toa Empire universe? And still made it into the MU...somehow? I'm just confused how that would all work out, and wondered what you all had to say. Maybe I'm just overlooking something obvious. Thanks
  18. What was the big explanation for why Vakama and Co. didn't tell anyone on Mata-Nui (besides Matoro) about the rest of the universe below them? I know this: -There was no way back to Metru-Nui (as far as I recall) since the eye-hole that they traveled through only worked for leaving the Great Spirit Robot's head, and it became covered in a glacier later on; but I don't think that's all that great a reason to act as though the world they left didn't exist at all? -They were ashamed of their Hordika experience, but I don't think that's enough to make them keep an entire history from their former friends and the people they were sworn to protect, especially once things started to get bad during the invasion of the Bohrok and the Kal. -It could be said that they didn't want to tell the Toa Mata until they were "ready" for the information? (Maybe they expected the Toa to have some knowledge of their duty to awaken Mata-Nui, and didn't want to give them too much information once they realized the Toa had no memories of each other or of Mata-Nui? I don't know, it's a bad theory). But, even if that does work, it doesn't explain why they would have kept everything from the Matoran... I just don't see why the Turaga never told the Matoran anything about the world below them? Especially if they know that leaving Metru-Nui was a bad thing and that they'd need to return eventually? The Toa Metru would likely have been around during the Civil War as Matoran, and seen first hand what an unproductive Metru-Nui does to the Great Spirit. So they would have known that a prolonged absence from Metru-Nui would be bad for the universe, and that eventually they would need to return. So then again...why did they leave at all? Was it to welcome the Toa Mata? To get far away from Makuta? I vaguely understand one or two reasons that were given for the abandoning of Metru-Nui and keeping everything from the Matoran, but what were the super-concrete answers for either of these questions?
  19. I thought it was all supposed to be a diversion. I think I remember the Rahaga talking about how there was a time when people didn't know that the Visorak were a part of the Brotherhood, and that they assumed Roodaka and Sidorak were the ones in charge. Later, the Toa Hagah realized it was Makuta who was really pulling the strings, but by then they were mutated and unable to really do anything about it. The way I saw it was that while Makuta and the Brotherhood were plotting to take over the universe shortly following the Great Cataclysm, they needed something to keep peoples' attentions away from their doings. So they took a group of relatively powerful and semi-intelligent rahi, turned them into a hoard, gave them to a pair of their underlings, and let them play the "bad-guy" part for a while. Matoran and Toa alike were so busy worrying about and dealing with a hoard of mutation inducing spiders slowly advancing through the universe to notice whatever small actions the Brotherhood was taking as it set up for the "big finale" when the Great Spirit fell asleep. This also let the Brotherhood play the "good-guy" role at times by destroying a group of Visorak every so often, yet not enough to actually stall the invasion of the hoard as a whole. This could continue to paint the Brotherhood as protectors of the Matoran. Once the Brotherhood was outed as the real villains following Makuta's betrayal of Mata-Nui, the hoard was sent to Metru-Nui to secure his body, and the rest of the universe was already in the Brotherhood's control, so the hoard was no longer needed as a conquest machine at that time. That's only the headcanon I've come up with though, so take it with a grain of salt, there's bound to be canon that proves me wrong. EDIT: The comic I was thinking of was "Shadow Play". Kualus and Bomonga are discussing when they saw the Visorak Horde attacking an island and realized who was really in charge of the Horde. They are about to tell Whenua and Nuju who it was when a group of Visorak attack through the air vents. It's assumed that they were going to say "The Makuta" since I think the exact line it: "The Ma-"
  20. That makes sense. Just in case something happened that one member of the universe somehow became sapient, they wouldn't be able to realize automatically that their world was actually a super-robot. And since the Matoran, sapient or not, would have needed food, water, and air to function, it makes sense that the Great Beings would need to build an ecosystem so things could continue running. Yeah, sorry about that, you're right. Sapient is more what I meant, thanks. =] Woah, I didn't know their incomplete sapience extended so far back. Good to know. Thanks Bonesii. Is there any other speculation as to why they created things the way they did outside of these ideas?
  21. I think this idea came up before, but I'm having trouble finding the correct topic discussing it. Anyway, why did the Great Beings create a whole world if they had no intention of the Matoran becoming conscious beings? Did they simply create the whole world for the sake of making cool stuff or...? Along these same lines, at what point did beings in the MU gain consciousness that the Great Beings were unable to notice it? It's said that Helryx helped in creating the foundation of Metru-Nui, so was this the work of pre-consciousness Helryx, or did she gain her mentality after the Great Spirit Robot left Spherus Magna? These are just two quick questions that probably have easy answers, so thank you for whatever you can help me dig up. =]
  22. Question on sand. Was the main reason for making sand it's own element the fact that the Sand Tribe existed on SM, or for some other reason? Bonesiii, I know we discussed this before, but I've lost the messages and wanted to get your answer again if I could. =] Looking at sand in the real world, I'm seeing that it really isn't just tiny stones and rocks all the time, so there is a real world basis for it being a separate element I suppose, but I wanted to see what the reasoning from you all was for a sand element. Thanks
  23. Haha, set up a donation area and I'd give money just to help you guys. Glad to see this is still expanding, you guys are as awesome as always.
  24. I’m just some random Joe, so take my opinion as a grain of salt, but I really like this and all the other short stories I've read of yours from this collection. You've taken some less than characterized characters and at least given them a better sense of being. Specific to this story, I liked the note of the Ice Lord's habit of keeping frozen statues of his traitors and enemies, really cool idea. I'm sort of tempted to use it in my own writtings. While your writing isn't perfect, it certainly is good as a foundation and.for all of these flash fics that I've read so far. =] (Though, again, I'm no expert and you could be much better than I'm giving credit for) Either way I'm looking forward to reading whatever else you have that I haven’t gotten to, and I hope you keep up the work for all the other years!
  25. Whoa, could we get an exact quote by chance?
