I love your eyes, my dear Their splendid sparkling fire When suddenly you raise them so To cast a swift embracing glance Like lightning flashing in the sky But there is a charm that is greater still When my love’s eyes are lowered When all is fired by passion’s kiss And through the downcast lashes I see the dull flame of desire Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev
  3. Waltz would actually make a phenomenal Makuta, come to think of it... And we might as well discuss the other films too. I'll add that to the first post.

Hahaha, yeah, I guess I may have been a little too vague...

Wait'll you see the end result.
  12. Part of a big project I'm working on. Now, obviously the Barraki we got as sets were heavily mutated. That said, I thought for the names of their species I'd go back to the scientific names of the creatures they were based on, then stylize the spelling and such. Here's what I've got so far: Pridak – Carkharin Takadox – Sphodrani Mantax – Dasyati Kalmah – Sefalops Carapar – Kansaran Ehlek – Anguillan I'm using a similar method for the names of some other species. Thoughts? (This isn't a canonization attempt or anything, for the record.)

    A work in progress.
  15. Kevin Grevioux as Makuta. Music by Nathan Furst. Furst did a great job - far better than D'Andrea - and I feel Zimmer just isn't subtle enough to capture the Bionicle tone well enough. I reiterate: Tim Curry as Makuta. I totally agree about Zimmer, and I'd be more than happy with Furst again. His scores would've been good for a theatrical film, let alone a straight-to-DVD toy-based movie.

    Yay Finals Week

Spent a good chunk of potential nap-time trying to build a decent Toa of Stone out of Onewa Metru, Keetongu and a Vahki Zadahk. Unsure as to whether I actually succeeded.
  17. The first two or three years had the best atmosphere, with this odd blend of mechanical and tribal/tropical. That clash was what made it so unique, and you could even hear it in the music, mixing synthesizers and tribal drums. As fun as Metru Nui was, it had a sort of "oh, they're biomechanical beings in a technological environment, that makes sense" thing going; even things like the carving seemed more like elemental hobbies and jobs than anything else. On Mata Nui, we had no idea where everyone came from or why they were biomechanical. Had we begun in a technologically advanced city, that sense of mystery would've been missing from the get-go, because biomechanicals in a technopolis is something that's usually just automatically accepted. I honestly think '06 had the best atmosphere post-Mata Nui, because it got back to the "mysterious island" vibe, fused with even more technology and a dark sense that time was running out (something lacking from a lot of the '07 story, I think, but that's more because the story had to be stretched out to accommodate a whole year's worth of toys). I know '06 takes a lot of heat sometimes for trying too hard to be "dark and gritty," but that's what fit the story--doesn't get much darker than Mata Nui dying. It was as if the island of Mata Nui had fallen to the Makuta before the Toa ever got there, and so they find a Matoran resistance fighting against an occupying enemy. More could've been done with that original motif, certainly, but I think the story folks felt they had to make it feel quick and suspenseful; that rush is probably what made '07 feel slower in comparison. A longer prelude on Voya Nui to establish where we were would've gone a long way. Even without that, if the sets had been better I think a lot of people would be much fonder of '06. Bara Magna started off really well. Remember that teaser poster with the giant ball joint rising out of the desert? That was like The Phantom Menace's teaser poster: filled with mystery, and a sense that truths would finally be revealed. Unfortunately, as with Menace and its fellow prequels, the execution was poorly done, and certain reveals seemed rather lame. Granted, it's always hard for reveals to really be pulled off: that said, I think a tad more foreshadowing and a better reveal than "oh, here's a video--Mata Nui's a universe inside a robot" would've gone a long way. Anyhow, I'd say Bara Magna was the biggest failure at following through on atmosphere. It just felt generic, especially after that great original tease.
  18. Had to google that, so I guess I'm not... Really? I hate Halo and I know what a Sangheili is. It's that thing that will always kill you and send you back 15 minutes in the game. My knowledge of Halo comes entirely from the first few seasons of Arby 'n' the Chief and Red vs. Blue...
  19. Had to google that, so I guess I'm not...
  20. Ooo, sage green is good too... This is why we need a Toa of Plant Life! Make it happen, Lego, you've already established Jungle powers...
  21. No! What are you thinking? Morgan Freeman as Vakama!! I'd rather hear him as Vakama than Onua. Onua should be more gruff and...dwarven, so to speak. Maybe even as far as John Rhys-Davies. Fixed that for you Much as I love Hans, I'd prefer something a bit more LOST-esque for Bionicle. Hans and Gold would likely give us a regular old action score. It'd be a great score, but I don't think it'd fit Bionicle; nor would any of the other more unique sounds Hans has come up with, like Sherlock Holmes or Inception. Bionicle needs mystery and shadows, with real heart and emotion at the core. That's the kind of score Giacchino can pull off with ease.
  22. Dark green is lovely, but regular green is and always should be Lewa's color (and lime, I suppose). That's one thing I love about the new sets, the bright colors are back.
