  1. RPG Forum Text-Based RPG Contest 26 ReviewsYou know the drill. Read the rules here. Submit entries here. Review entries and discuss reviews here.
  2. RPG Forum Text-Based RPG Contest 26It's that time again. No theme this time, just give us your best Bionicle RPG!Any questions about the theme may be asked in this topic. Here's how these contests work:[*]The contest will be run every three (3) months, or four (4) times a year.[*]All members are welcome to enter the contest.[*]Each member can only enter one (1) Text-based RPG entry.[*]The only exception to this is that BZPRPG and RPG Contest staff will not be permitted to make entries.[*]There will be three winners selected in every contest. [*]The winners will be the three RPGs with the most votes after one or more rounds of voting (depending on the number of entries).[*]Whether or not a given RPG wins or not, it will be allowed to run in future contests, with the below conditions and restrictions. [*]For and RPG that lost a contest, the creator must make an attempt to alter and improve their entry before entering it in the next contest.[*]If an RPG has won four (4) consecutive contests that it has entered, it can not enter the next four contests. It does not, however, have to be altered before being entered again after its break, although the creator can do so if they desire to.[*]Example: A RPG wins two contests in a row. It is not entered in the next contest. It is entered and wins the fourth and fifth contests. At this point it cannot be entered into the next four contests.[*]Other restrictions as a result of other rules or administrative action may prevent a member from submitting an RPG. [*]At the end of the three-month interval between contests, if an active RPG does not win again, it will be closed. [*]If a former winner wins again at a later date, the creator of the RPG can choose to continue in the old topic where they left off or start over again in a new topic.[*]If the creator or members of a winning RPG break the RPG forum rules, that RPG will be closed. [*]The next runner-up from the previous contest will be allowed to run for the remainder of the term.[*]The offending RPG will not be allowed to participate in the next contest.[*]This system is designed to be more fair than the TBRPG approval process has been in the past, so absolutely no complaining.[*]TBRPG EntriesThe following is what determines a Text-Based RPG entry. The creator of each entry must provide at least: [*]A brief introduction to the RPG.[*]A description of the setting, the time and place the events occur.[*]A history of what has happened leading up to the current situation.[*]The characters and creatures involved. Does this take place in the canonical Bionicle Universe, or is this your own island with its own heroes and villains?[*]A description on how you plan to further to story. [*]Does it follow the actual Bionicle story or take place in a setting of your own creation?[*]Is there an outline on where you plan for it go?[*]Will the players be allowed to choose the direction the story takes?[*]Is there an ultimate goal or quest, or is it merely a world for members to inhabit?[*]Requirements for those wishing to participate in your RPG. [*]Will members be taking the role of existing characters or characters you have created?[*]Can they make their own characters? If so, what sort of restrictions will be placed on them?[*]What sort of equipment, masks, stats, etc will members get when they begin?[*]Rules determining how players will interact with the environment and other characters. [*]How will the winner of battles be determined?[*]How will members buy and upgrade their equipment?[*]Will members level up? How will they gain experience? The above information can be submitted however the creator prefers. It does not have to be delineated in this way, as long as it is all there.Contest ProceduresHow the contest is going to be run. Here is the format the contest will operate under: [*]Members will have three weeks to draft and submit entries.[*]Entries will be posted in the Contest Submission thread. Any entries posted elsewhere or PMed will be disregarded.[*]At the end of this period, no further entries will be accepted.[*]The entries will be grouped into as few polls as possible for the initial round of voting.[*]Each round of voting will last for two to three days (48-72 hours).[*]The format of subsequent rounds of voting will be determined depending on the number of entries.[*]The three entries with the most votes in the final round of voting will be declared the winners. Any questions can be posted in the Contest Rules Thread or PMed to Contest Host Black Six.NOTE - All current TBRPGs must be submitted as entries if they wish to continue running.Entries can be SUBMITTED from now until 11:59 PM EST on Friday, December 21st.You can review other entries and discuss the reviews in the Review Topic.
  3. For Eternity Kaito, the protagonist in the story, prior to his Green Ninja tranformation Everyone knows the legend of Ninjago. Everybody knows how Kai, Zane, Jay, and Cole came together, alongside Lloyd, the fabled Green Ninja, to fight the evil Lord Garmadon. But, for every occurrence, there are an infinite number of alternate possibilities. Let us leave Ninjago for a while and journey to an alternate version of Ninjago. In this land, Lord Garmadon never met Misako, and Lloyd was never born. Because of this difference, Garmadon lacked any light in his heart, no love, no family, only pure darkness. When the skeleton armies raided the land, no one was safe. There were hundreds of casualties. Among them were Kai, Zane, Jay, and Cole- the Ninja. The Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu were all stolen and darkness reigned. But destiny never allows for unopposed evil. A lone hero rose to the occasion. This is his story.“OOF!”Kaito hefted a huge block. Ever since the skeleton armies had invaded almost a year ago, leaving destruction in its wake, the village had been rebuilding, trying to recover from the disaster. Kaito was about to put the block in its place when an old man interrupted him, tapping him on the shoulder.“YEOWCH!”Kaito yelled as he dropped the block on his foot. Annoyed, he turned around and looked at the old man, who merely chuckled.“I am sorry to interrupt your labors,” replied the old man, “but unless you want another skeleton invasion, I suggest you come with me.”“Is that a threat?” asked Kaito, drawing his sword.“No, merely a warning,” replied the old man, unfazed by the weapon. “You will see once you learn the skills needed to defeat the skeleton armies once and for all.”“Who are you?” demanded Kaito, not letting down his guard.“My name is Wu, although you can call me... Sensei Wu.” the old man replied.“Sensei? I’m not anybody’s student,” argued Kaito. “I don’t need anybody to teach me.”“Yes, you do,” Wu replied, “Especially to teach you... humility.”Their argument was cut short by panicked cries. The skeletons were back.“The skeletons! Wait right here.” exclaimed Kaito, jumping into battle. A white aura surrounded his sword as he jumped into battle. He hacked and slashed at the skeletons, swiftly dismembering the undead soldiers. Peculiarly, the skeletons froze up the second they came in contact with the sword. But there were simply too many skeletons. Kaito was almost overwhelmed when a golden tornado came spinning to his rescue. The tornado stopped spinning to reveal... Sensei Wu.“I told you to stay out of this!” yelled an angered Kaito, running away from the old man. He continued to fight for the village, but the skeletons were rapidly overwhelming the futile defenses of the village.“Kaito! Help!”Kaito turned and saw his friend, Kathy, being menaced by Samukai, the four-armed skeleton general, who was wielding the Nunchucks of Lightning and the Sword of Fire.“Kathy! No!” Kaito leaped over and swiftly decapitated Samukai. Suddenly, the unexpected happened. Samukai’s eerie headless body picked up his oversized skull and replaced it. Kaito glanced at his sword. Had the mystical sword failed, or was Samukai simply too strong? He cut Samukai to pieces. As the monstrosity reassembled himself, he yelled for Kathy to escape. “Go! Now! Don’t worry about me, save yourself! It’s not safe here! Go!”Kathy took the warning and ran, towards the dock. Looking over her shoulder, she saw Kaito fighting for his life against Samukai.“Don’t look back!” Kaito yelled. “Just go!”Kathy boarded a ship and set sail. However, Samukai had other plans. Laughing evilly and raising the Nunchucks of Lightning to the sky, he created a storm that swiftly caught her, pulling her far off course.“Kathy!” yelled Kaito. This was the fatal distraction that Samukai needed. He prepared to strike the final blow with the Sword of Fire. Kaito had just enough time to watch the shadow of doom fall upon him. Samukai struck- and it was blocked by a bamboo staff. It was Sensei Wu! Scowling, Kaito pushed him out of the way and faced off against Samukai. The skeleton general simply turned his back, casually set the village ablaze with the Sword of Fire, and called for his armies to retreat. Once the village burned to the ground and the destruction was visible, it was clear why Samukai left. A whole village, slaughtered overnight. The streets were strewn with corpses of the people Kaito once knew. He was the only one left.“I can help you defeat the army,” Kaito heard Wu behind him. “And next time, you will not lose.”“Next time?” Kaito yelled in anger. “What next time? They’re dead! All of them!”“Not all of them.” Wu calmly replied. “Although lost, that girl still lives, and so do you and I.”“But what’s the point? My sword did nothing! I did nothing!”“Your sword? Actually, I’m curious. It’s something about that sword... That sword is powerful, and you cannot use it properly.”“It was forged a long time ago, and it’s supposed to be able to dispel dark magic,” Kaito explained, “and I can use it just fine! Besides, how did you do that tornado thing? That seems to be the only thing that works against them... Please! Teach me how to do that!”“Very well,” replied Sensei Wu. “I will teach you Spinjitzu.”And they trained. They sparred late into the night. Kaito learned the legends of Lord Garmadon and the prophecy of the Green Ninja. Kaito discovered the art of Spinjitzu. Kaito mastered the elements of Fire, Lightning, Ice, and Earth. But no matter what he learned, no matter how powerful he got, a dark shadow still hung over Ninjago. While Kaito was training, the skeletons, unopposed, conquered Ninjago City. A huge crater was blown in the middle of Ninjago, connecting Ninjago with the underworld beneath. Garmadon’s dark forces spilled out of the hole by the millions, sweeping Ninjago. Soon, Garmadon was the absolute ruler of Ninjago. An evil tower of dark steel and obsidian was built in the underworld, protruding through the hole and reaching up to the cloudy skies. It could be seen for miles as a reminder of Garmadon’s immense power. But as the tower grew, so did Kaito’s strength. Sensei Wu watched the imposing skyscraper from the safety of the monastery, the only place that the skeletons had not yet reached. But that soon changed, as the armies climbed the mountain one day.“We’re under attack!” yelled Kaito. Grabbing his sword, he prepared to fight- But Sensei Wu stopped him.“No. I will fight. You are too important to die here. Go! The time has come! The final battle, yes, the time has come for the Green Ninja to rise up and fight Lord Garmadon. The Green Ninja... The Green Ninja is... Ack!” At that moment, a skeleton warrior stabbed Sensei Wu, killing him instantly. At that moment, Kaito realized the truth.Three years later, Kaito stood at the gates of the Underworld Tower. Its imposing sleek metal design stared at him. Suddenly, the gates opened, and the dark lord himself stepped out, dragging the disembodied head of what had once been Kathy, the girl who had tried to escape so many years ago.“Oh, I assume you’ve come here for the girl?” inquired Garmadon. “Take her.” He tossed the head at Kaito.“You monster...” Kaito gritted his teeth. Garmadon was even more hideous in person. His skin was pitch black. He towered over Kaito, with four menacing arms, each wielding one of the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. His teeth were sharp fangs, and his nails were piercing claws. He wore a fearsome helmet of dark steel and bone.“Oh, a challenge, is it? Very well,” Garmadon calmly replied. “This shall be delightful! Muahahaha!” Garmadon laughed evilly, then attacked with all four weapons.Kaito regained his focus. Fire, Lightning, Ice, and Earth swirled around him. His clothing became green, and a Ninja mask formed around his head. He had transformed... Into the Green Ninja! “Ninja... Go!” Kaito used his Spinjitzu, spinning in a green tornado. Garmadon, however, was far stronger, knocking him back with the incredible power of the Four Weapons. Kaito could barely see the blurry, shaking outline of Garmadon standing over him.“Foolish mortal,” taunted Garmadon. “Don’t you see that darkness always wins? I have already seized Ninjago, and I will not stop there! My skeleton army is all powerful! I will be able to control the whole world! Nothing can stand in my way! And I will destroy anyone who tries... starting with you!”“No! This ends now!” Kaito lashed out- and cut off Garmadon’s head. The dark lord’s hulking body fell one way, and his cranium rolled the other way. Suddenly, the blackness marring Garmadon’s skin receded, and his body began to shrink. Garmadon was reverting back to a human. His face was no longer demonic, but rather, quite human and strangely familiar. Kaito gasped. Garmadon’s face... was his own. He fell to his knees. He looked down at his hands and was horrified by the sight. Garmadon’s blood, on Kaito’s hands, was beginning to blacken and spread, mutating his body and dyeing his skin pitch black. Kaito felt the darkness spreading through him. He was becoming Garmadon. The disembodied head spoke.“You may have defeated me, Green Ninja, but you have not destroyed me. For, in murdering me, you have become the ultimate evil. It is to you that I shall pass on my sins. Farewell... brother...”The head disintegrated. Kaito was stricken with pain and horror as the realization hit him. He was no better than Garmadon. He was evil.“No! This cannot be!” lamented Kaito. Picking up his sword, he decided to end the darkness that had plagued Ninjago for years. He firmly gripped his sword, preparing himself- and struck himself through. He fell to the ground, choking and spitting blood. In his last moments, he saw the tower crumble to dust and the sun shining through the dark clouds. On his last breath, he whispered one final vow.“Now... Ninjago... is... at peace again... as long as I am dead... Ninjago is safe... safe.. for eternity...”Kaito closed his eyes. His transformation reversed itself as he slowly passed away. And once his heart stopped and his last flicker of life was extinguished, Ninjago was finally at peace once more. For eternity.
  4. Protector Well… we won. Normally, I would not waste time carving this tablet. I enjoy history as much as the next Toa - it’s just that I can’t help but think my time and powers would be better spent elsewhere, as this vast city rebuilds itself after the great battle it just underwent. Alas, a Po-Matoran whom Turaga Dume has named Chronicler of the Toa has asked me to compile my thoughts about the past weeks, so that he may include them in the new Ta-Metru Wall of History. I have only recently returned from my journey with Naho and the others to the island of Xia, where we dropped off the subdued Kanohi Dragon. What the Xian natives plan to do with it, I have no idea. But like Tuyet suggested, they can always feed it to their other ‘pet’, the Mountain, if it proves too vicious even by Vortixx standards. As we returned, we noticed that the island city of Metru Nui was in far better shape than it had been when we left. Already the southern half of Ta-Metru is almost rebuilt, after it was practically leveled by the Kanohi Dragon. Everyone’s shown so much teamwork. Even the Turaga has lent a hand where he could. Indeed, the Matoran here are truly blessed by the Great Spirit, for their leader is as wise as he is brave. These Matoran are unlike any I’ve seen. Their perseverance and creativity is unmatched by any I’ve known before. I remember well the first time I met the then Toa Dume. I was a humble tinkerer and toolmaker on the western half of the Northern Continent, taking an unscheduled break from my duties and heading to the local lava river. In my haste, I failed to notice that the lavaboard I’d ‘borrowed’ from a friend’s cubby was so worn down that it was useless even as a waterboard. Of course, by the time I finally noticed I was in the middle of the river, speeding across molten magma. I would have been lava-bones for sure if Dume hadn’t seen me on his routine patrol of the Koro. He saved me, and evidently liked me, for he made me a Toa later on. Looking back, my first thought when I received the summons from Dume via Vahki emissary was if the Turaga would remember me. I made my way north as fast as my Greatswords of Fire could fly, noticing familiar faces heading the same way, hitching a ride on the backs of their respective Vahki. Naho I already knew from my exploration of a small southern island, in search of the missing Makoki Stone. Tuyet I met while searching the far eastern part of the Northern continent and, knowing her, it was not surprising that she’d answered the call for Toa to aid Metru Nui. Nothing grabs Tuyet’s attention like the chance to smash some heads together. One other hero, a Toa of Air (Nidhiki, I believe he’d called himself), was new to me. I assume Nidhiki has a very troubled history, given by what little he’s shared. I wonder what his story is, and if he’ll ever trust me enough to tell me…The other seven Toa are a bit of a mystery, as I hadn’t the time to meet with them before the action. Dume was lucky enough to find 4 Toa of Ice willing to answer the call and take on the Dragon. Without their power, we most certainly would not have defeated the great beast. One Toa that Dume was blessed by the Great Beings to have drafted was an experienced Toa of Fire. He was the last to answer the summons, and the only one that no one else knew prior to the forming of the team. He doesn’t talk much… hasn’t even told us his name yet. He wears armor of crimson and silver, and wears a Kanohi Kakama. His fighting skills were unmatched by any warrior of any race I have ever witnessed. He instantly reminded me of the commander of the old Tower of Toa, and behaves very much like him as well. He probably would have made a better leader than I, but for some reason he insisted that I head the new team. Nidhiki suggested that he might make the best leader, but a silent stare from our fiery new ally put a stop to all such thoughts. And so we entered into the city of Metru Nui, some of us for the first time. After a standoff with three Dark Hunters in the Coliseum, our mission was made clear; find the beast and subdue it by any means possible, before it could cause further damage to the city. We found the Dragon perched atop the Great Furnace, its immense size making the colossal building seem like a village hut in comparison. Then the battle began. One of our Toa of Ice impulsively sent a blast of snow and hail from his weapon, hitting the Dragon directly in the eye. The creature, enraged by the pain and cold, leaped down from the structure and sent a blast of orange fire at our icy partner. The Toa of Ice would’ve surely been incinerated had Nidhiki not whipped up a miniature cyclone from the tip of his Air Scythe and shoved him out of the way. The battle quickly became a war, lasting over a month; every day fighting the dragon, wherever it tried to hide. In the course of that time, thousands of Vahki were destroyed along with much of Ta-Metru. Fortunately, in that time we all learned how to fight as a team - one of the few rewards that came of our victory. I have not the time to go into the details of all the conflicts, but it is worth noting that I now have new appreciation for the idea of having partners to fight beside you. Perhaps I’ll make a decent leader yet. Now we at last have a moment to rest. Our Ice Toa are by far the worst for wear out of all of us. Their armor is almost black as soot from their efforts to encase the beast in ice. Turaga Dume suspects that Dark Hunters might have released the Dragon from its resting place as a way of convincing him that it was in his best interest to allow them into the city; to install a base here for Metru Nui’s ‘protection’ (Ironic that it was they who endangered us and Dume’s own Toa team that sealed the Dragon in ice in the first place). Knowing what the Dark Hunters have done for the sake of control in the past, I have no doubt we’ll be seeing more of them very soon. Being a leader is not what I wanted, but it seems to be the position I’ve been tasked with. My new team is a good one. They are all excellent fighters, and seem to be getting along well enough. My fellow Toa and I agree that it would be wise to stay in the city and act as its permanent Toa team. Some of the more spirited Matoran have even given us the name “Toa Mangai”. Donning the title of protector may be the greatest honor any of us have ever received. Yes, I think we’ll stay here for a while. I have a feeling that a time will come when this city and its Matoran need all of us again. And by the Great Beings, I won’t let them down. I will never let my friends down again. - Toa Mangai Lhikan This memoir was written by Colt McCoy, edited and submitted by moi because Colt is having some troubles with account access. 8. Entry for fortnightly flash fiction contest since Andrew asked and oh no I don't have any homework at all and wasn't planning on writing one of my other stories for the Ambage at all but who's complaining am I right. Theme: Pathfinding. Wordcount: 964I feel lost. That's not even an awful metaphor either. I literally am not aware of my physical surroundings in their relation to where I want to be. Absolutely lost. The walls are white, painted cement like I remember them being for years. The ceilings are lit by rows of bright fluorescent lights, stretching endlessly down the halls. The floor is black and smells of rubber or crude oil. Petroleum based, anyways. Not like I care. The smell is awful, that's the important thing. When I recall my past in here, it seems --as though a vague mental image-- that it was almost a year ago. The floors have been getting darker and my lungs seem to grate with every breath.I hear footsteps padding down the hall, somewhere around the next corner. I slow down as I approach the next intersection and press myself against the wall. Within seconds the muted echoes approach and I plant a solid fist in the runner's stomach, sending him sprawling across the floor. I look down at his face with an immense amount of guilt as he gasps for breath. There are no mirrors in this place, true, but an external sense tells me that the face of this man is my own. Whether a clone, an apparition, or simply a psychological trick, I no longer care. I put my foot against his throat and do what I've done this entire time, to survive. I know that I am the only one in this maze, quite literally. Every version of myself that I've cut off through decisions in the past have been merged to a single universe, where I've been forced to confront every version of myself and destroy them. I suppose whoever engineered this think of it as am amusing metaphor, that I literally have to kill off every bad decision I've made and come to terms with who I've become in that time, but all I see is a twisted reality where I've become a killer. As his body dissipates into the ground, the stench of rubber seems to grow ever so slightly.I continue down the halls, feeling more cheated with every kill. I feel sick that I'm becoming desensitized to this, that the moral problems and emotional impact is dulled as my methods become more brutal, merciless, and stunningly effective.I make a right at the next intersection, followed by two lefts, a flight of stairs, and another right. There's no method to my choices any more. I used to agonize over the psychology of the maze, how every corner could be a setup to drive me into doing exactly what they want-- whoever they are. But now I just blindly decide on a whim, snapping back and forth, stopping occasionally to listen for the footsteps of myself.Oh, speak of the devil. Another apparition runs past a crossroad ahead, screaming. I lunge forward and give chase. My breaths come heavy now. The death toll of the day is starting to wear. I'll probably take a nap after this one. He's wearing a straitjacket. I quicky match his speed as he turns a corner. I twist my leg around his and plant my foot on the ground, effectively collapsing his gait. I grab his neck and arm as I pull my leg back, slamming him face-first into the ground with a splintering crack. His body slowly disintegrates into a swirling black mass, like a swarm of flies that crawl into the black floor. My stomach is upset and I slump against the wall, directly across from a doorway.Wait. There are no doors in this maze. I haul myself to my feet, wavering, and nearly puke with the excitement of this find. I take one step forward, then two, then I brace myself against the opposite wall with one hand and stop to take a deep breath and calm my stomach. I tentatively slide my fingers around the brass knob. It's cold, shiny and perfectly smooth. It's probably never been touched by my hand. I crack it open, and before I have time to regret my decision, I close my eyes and swing the door wide open.I sit up with a start, my fingers still clenched in midair. The hum of medical equipment fills the silence my ears had been accustomed to in the maze. The walls are still white, but there's something different. My body goes cold as I move my legs, realizing that it feels so different than what I had been doing in there. A doctor stands to my side, frowning."The training was supposed to go on for six weeks more," he remarked. Was he angry, disappointed, or was that just an observation? The feeling of being cheated fills my mind."May I refresh your mind? It's possible that the months in there have erased some of your memories. You are in a military training facility. Here we give you the most difficult of all tasks so that you may be ready for anything in the battlefield. You must know how to kill, and you must see the look in your own eyes as you do so. What have you learned?"None of this sounds familiar. This doesn't sound like something I would voluntarily ask for, and I feel no sense of duty or accomplishment at his words. It all just seems pointless. I stand up and waver for a moment as I regain my balance. Suddenly a new sensation fills my mind and I can't seem to push it back to my subconscious. The feel of solid ground beneath my feet. I'm no longer lost.I grab the doctor by the collar with only a tingling sense of regret in my mind."Let me show you."
  9. The Wrong Path They called it the Pathfinder.Or at least, most people did. Like most things shrouded in myth, it had no single name. Some called it the Ghoul of the Forest. Or The Seeker's Last Lucky Break. Most called it the Pathfinder.Maybe it would be more appropriate to refer to it as her. According to every account from the few Seekers that had seen her and come out of the forest, it always took the shape of a young girl made of stone, but moving like a person. The people of Town do not want to think of her as living. So she was an it.She would appear from between the trees, if you were too (un)lucky, and lead you astray. She would do nothing but talk to you. Of anything that could make you lose yourself. Eventually she would begin to talk about things she shouldn't have known. Things no one knew but you.And you would follow her, in anger, hope, or desperation. And then you would be lost.Of course, almost everyone who wandered into the Forest of Infinite Paths would be lost from the beginning. The forest, made of rock and utterly uninhabited, was what lay between us and paradise.Or so the legends go.I live in the Town. It's a huge settlement, closed off from the rest of the world--if there even is such a thing. The Forest stands in the way of glory. There is nothing around us, nothing beyond the horizon, but the forest. Those brave enough to transverse the forest and attempt to reach glory are called Seekers. As its name would indicate, the forest floor is covered with twisting paths, thousands at a time. No two paths are the same, and they change perpetually: You could be observing the forest for hours, but as soon as you turn away for even a second, the paths will shift. Most paths lead you back to town, but some don't. According to the Seekers, there are some paths that lead directly to paradise. And it's these paths that the Pathfinder targets. They call her the Pathfinder because if you see her, it means you have found the right path to glory. All you have to do is continue walking. But she's also called the Pathfinder because she will always find every potentially successful path and lead its traveler astray. At least, that is what I heard from a Seeker one day while I was in the tavern. He and his brother had taken parallel paths in the forest (no two people can take the same path), and set out for the other side. "It was mostly just boring" he'd said. Then she came. His brother was in a "good"; path. She led him away. And he was lost.I heard that Seeker went back into the forest. I never saw him again. --- I'm writing this from just outside the forest. I am about to enter it myself.I know I can do it.If I don't, I have nothing.I look at the ground before me. The rock trunks of the trees loom all around my field of vision. Snaking around them are the well-tread paths. No two alike. No turning back. --- The Seeker was right. It really is mostly boring. There's nothing alive in this forest. I sometimes spot other Seekers in their paths, but it's very rarely. They don't pay any attention to me, though. I'm marked, and they can see that plainly.I keep walking for what seem to be hours. The forest always looks the same. Even at nighttime, the forest is bright and blank, eerie in its uneven uniformity.I'm not tired. Or hungry. Or thirsty. The forest seems to negate every basic human need. It's as if the ones who travel this phantom realm start becoming rock themselves: no needs, no desires, just pure undemanding existence. It's mind-numbing.And then it happens. And I see her, for the first time. She's not after me. A Seeker on a path several yards away from mine exclaims loudly when he sees her. He's on the right path. But he isn't, for long. She begins to talk. I can't understand what she says, even though I can register her words clearly. I am hearing her, but cannot listen. The Seeker turns and runs. He runs until he's out of my sight. Whatever she did, worked. And then she herself turns, and I am able to see her clearly for the first time. She's beautiful. She's beautiful, and graceful, and wonderful. I can't explain it, but when I saw her, every weight dropped from my shoulders. Her sole image was comforting and welcoming. I'm about to call out to her.But then she's gone, just like that. --- A path will supposedly disappear if you step off it, once you stop looking at it. It will shift and never come back. But I was still looking. And I knew it was the right path.I ran. I hit the path and kept running.I ran from the Ghoul of the Forest. I ran from the society that had rejected the poor and maimed orphan that I had been so many years ago. I ran from the nameless slave I had been. I ran from the scar that marked my face, denoting me as property only. I ran from the ghosts of all those I knew that were lost in this cursed forest. I ran along he only path that could somehow lead to my freedom. But then I saw her.I had taken the right path. And now she was there to take me way.She spoke only one word. A name.A name I'd never heard, but knew to be mine.It was all it took.I stepped off the path, knowing that I would never see it again. Knowing I would never see paradise. She turned away.I followed. Procrastinating writing this down was probably a bad choice?

  17. (KanohiJournal's website is now offline.)NOTICE: The entry period is over. The final date of the entry period was 12:00 PM EST on May 10. There will be no more postponements. Also, I NEED JUDGES TO VOLUNTEER.(Please note that the header image is out of date. Also, due to coding troubles, this post may lack quotation marks and / or apostrophes; if you notice any missing, please notify me.)* * * Welcome to KanohiJournal Publications Lesovikk's Hiatus Contest! This is a fanon writing contest that focuses on Lesovikk's self-imposed exile till 45,000 years after the deaths of his teammates. Read below for more information.AboutThe Lesovikk's Hiatus contest encompasses Lesovikk's adventures from 100,000 to 55,000 years B.T.R. (Before Teridax's Reign), after the rest of his Toa team was killed by Zyglak. Entrants are invited to write stories based on Lesovikks adventures within a portion of this period of time and are welcome to utilize existing plot elements or create their own. While Lesovikk's Hiatus was originally planned to be a canon contest, Mr. Greg Farshtey's absence would make it impossible to approve the winning entries. To conclude this contest, KanohiJournal Publications decided to make it canon-complying fanon (or canon-fit).The entry / editing period starts as of this topic's posting and will remain open till late April or early May (see the notice above). This contest was approved for hosting in BZPower's Storyline & Theories forum by Bonesiii. Legolover-361 is host, and Tyler Durden is assistant host.Polling and JudgingAfter the entry / editing period closes, a round of judging will occur. The entries that are cleared for the final round will be placed into polls, and the rest of the contest will be polled; BZPower members and judges from the previous round will be allowed to vote in the polls. If you would like to be a judge for the Short Story category, Novella category, or both, please contact Legolover-361 either via PM on BZPower or e-mailing matanuiinc@gmail.com with the subject Lesovikk's Hiatus Judging Application.PrizeThe winning entries will be made into an anthology that will be released by KanohiJournal Publications. As a bonus, you receive bragging rights. (Also, if Mr. Greg Farshtey returns, the winning entries could possibly be considered for canon; however, neither Mr. Farshtey's return nor his ability to review entries are guaranteed.)RulesYou are allowed to submit:[*]Up to three (3) short stories (individual, disconnected narratives) from 500 to 5,000 words, OR[*]One (1) novelette (a continuous story) from 5,001 to 15,000 words with chapter breaks where appropriate.[*]Any signs of continuity in your short story entries will cause your entry to be regarded as a novelette.[*]Punctuation (dashes, elipses, etc.) and section breaks (asterisks or other symbols used to separate sections of a narrative) do NOT add to your word count. The word limits given are the LOWER and UPPER bounds for your entries. A short story with exactly 500 words will be accepted; a short story with 499 will not.Restrictions on your entries are as follows: [*]The story must be about Lesovikk's journeys during his hiatus, between the time immediately after his team was killed and 55,000 B.T.R.[*]The story must not be about Lesovikk travelling to Mahri Nui. That event occurs long after this contest's time period.[*]You are allowed to introduce new characters in your story, but they should be kept to a minimum; remember that this contest is about Lesovikk.[*]You are allowed to name characters. However, bear in mind that if Mr. Farshtey returns and your story is approved as canon, names will not be included in the approval.[*]You may attribute new characters to the Order of Mata Nui. However, they must be utilized in your story in such a fashion that they do not in any way allow Lesovikk to know of the Order's existence.[*]Please use common sense when writing about powers. Entries with over-powered characters will likely be rejected.[*]Masks of Life, Creation, Time and Light must not be used.[*]The Mask of Dimensional Gates (Olmak) can only be used if Brutaka or the Toa from Jovan's team who once had the mask is featured in the story.[*]The Mask of Shadows can only be possessed by Makuta Teridax in the story.[*]Immoral masks cannot be used by Toa.[*]You cannot introduce new masks.[*]You cannot resolve existing storyline details or explain heretofore unexplained canon material.[*]Legendary powers cannot be used by any characters. The element of Light can only be utilized by Av-Matoran if they are utilized. The powers of Light and Shadow may be utilized by characters who wield them.[*]You cannot introduce new elements and / or powers.[*]You must follow the entry process below.Entry ProcessThere are two methods of entry: [*]Submit via e-mail: Send your entry or entries to matanuiinc@gmail.com and they will be placed on KanohiJournal Publications' website. To revise, please send your revisions to the same e-mail address.[*]Submit via BZPower: Post your entry in BZPower's Short Stories or Epics forum (short stories in the short story forum, multi-chapter stories in the Epics forum) and link to your entry in this topic using the following form:Username: [what you want to be called]Entry: [title of and link to your story go here]Grammatical and wording revisions are allowed without notification; for any other edits, you must notify Legolover-361 or Tyler Durden via BZPower PM. When in doubt, please notify a contest host. You are allowed to use both methods, but bear in mind that it is your responsibility to ensure both versions of your entry are kept up-to-date. [*]Do NOT send your entries to Mr. Greg Farshtey for him to check and approve. Ask friends / judges / contest hosts instead. If you are unsure whether your entry or parts of it conform with canon or have storyline-related questions, post your questions and concerns in this topic. We highly recommend checking BioSector01 before asking any questions.[*]Contest assistants will check over your entry primarily for storyline problems. They will approve or reject your entry only based on how well it fits Bionicle's canon; proofreading and quality-checking your entry is not a priority for judges. Please ask friends for constructive criticism instead. Background Storyline InformationPlease read this section thoroughly alongside the rules.Information on Lesovikk's Hiatus [*]Lesovikk met Jovan sometime during his travels, and Jovan coached Lesovikk on fighting styles and ideas before Lesovikk continued his travels.[*]Lesovikk fought the Rahi Nui at some point of his travels.[*]He freed an island infested with Visorak during this time.[*]At some point of his hiatus, Lesovikk explored some of the northernmost southern islands (south of the Southern Continent, in Mata Nui's southern torso and upper legs).[*]Lesovikk also fought a wounded Rock Lion at some point of his travels, but was defeated after a long and difficult battle. Please note that only two of the above events can be used per person (not per entry). If you need additional plot, you are free to create your own so long as it subscribes to canon.Faction Formation Dates [*]The Hand of Artakha was disbanded during the same time period Lesovikk's team was killed. As any overlaps in time periods are negligible or non-existent, you may not use the Hand of Artakha in your entry.[*]The Order of Mata Nui was formed shortly after the disbanding of the Hand of Artakha. The Order did not spread across the Matoran Universe till about 79,100 years B.T.R. Please see the rules for restrictions on the Order of Mata Nui.[*]The Brotherhood of Makuta was formed around the same time as the Order of Mata Nui, and was led by Miserix until Teridax overthrew him at around 79,100 years B.T.R. and began enacting his Plan. There is no clear period of time when the Brotherhood began to be viewed as evil; thus, if you choose to utilize the Brotherhood in your entry, we strongly recommend you avoid portraying the Brotherhood as evil.[*]The League of Six Kingdoms was formed 94,000 years B.T.R. They were captured and sent to the Pit about 80,000 years B.T.R.[*]The Dark Hunters were formed between 80,000 and 70,000 years B.T.R. Please be sure to check up on which Dark Hunters were active between 80,000 and 55,000 years ago before utilizing them in your story. If in doubt, the best option would be to avoid using that particular Dark Hunter.[*]Toa teams formed at various times throughout the Matoran Universe's history. If you are planning to use a Toa in your entry, ensure whether the Toa acted individually or in a team during your entry's time period, or if the Toa was still a Matoran.[*]Keep in mind that Lesovikk's hiatus is a self-imposed punishment till Lesovikk believes he has earned retribution. During this hiatus, Lesovikk refuses to call himself a Toa because he believes he is unworthy.Got all that? Then start writing. * * *

  20. RPG Forum Text-Based RPG Contest 25The theme is back! When we previously did themes we had a pattern we were following. I forgot where we left off with that and didn't feel like looking it up, so I decided to branch out and do something different.Subterranean Homesick Blues: All RPGs in this contest must take place underground. Maybe the world ended and people are hiding their for safety. Perhaps the objective is to make it to the surface to save the world. Or possibly all the characters are Onu-Koro Matoran and just like it there. Whatever the deal may be, make sure the characters stay where the sun don't shine.Any questions about the theme may be asked in this topic. Here's how these contests work: The contest will be run every three (3) months, or four (4) times a year. All members are welcome to enter the contest. Each member can only enter one (1) Text-based RPG entry. The only exception to this is that BZPRPG and RPG Contest staff will not be permitted to make entries.[*]There will be three winners selected in every contest. The winners will be the three RPGs with the most votes after one or more rounds of voting (depending on the number of entries).[*]Whether or not a given RPG wins or not, it will be allowed to run in future contests, with the below conditions and restrictions. For and RPG that lost a contest, the creator must make an attempt to alter and improve their entry before entering it in the next contest. If an RPG has won four (4) consecutive contests that it has entered, it can not enter the next four contests. It does not, however, have to be altered before being entered again after its break, although the creator can do so if they desire to.Example: A RPG wins two contests in a row. If a former winner wins again at a later date, the creator of the RPG can choose to continue in the old topic where they left off or start over again in a new topic.[*]If the creator or members of a winning RPG break the RPG forum rules, that RPG will be closed. The next runner-up from the previous contest will be allowed to run for the remainder of the term. The offending RPG will not be allowed to participate in the next contest.[*]This system is designed to be more fair than the TBRPG approval process has been in the past, so absolutely no complaining. TBRPG EntriesThe following is what determines a Text-Based RPG entry. The creator of each entry must provide at least: A brief introduction to the RPG.A description of the setting, the time and place the events occur.A history of what has happened leading up to the current situation. The characters and creatures involved. Does this take place in the canonical Bionicle Universe, or is this your own island with its own heroes and villains?[*]A description on how you plan to further to story. Does it follow the actual Bionicle story or take place in a setting of your own creation? Is there an outline on where you plan for it go?Will the players be allowed to choose the direction the story takes? Is there an ultimate goal or quest, or is it merely a world for members to inhabit?[*]Requirements for those wishing to participate in your RPG. Will members be taking the role of existing characters or characters you have created? Can they make their own characters? If so, what sort of restrictions will be placed on them? What sort of equipment, masks, stats, etc will members get when they begin?[*]Rules determining how players will interact with the environment and other characters. How will the winner of battles be determined? How will members buy and upgrade their equipment? Will members level up? How will they gain experience? The above information can be submitted however the creator prefers. It does not have to be delineated in this way, as long as it is all there.Contest ProceduresHow the contest is going to be run. Here is the format the contest will operate under: Members will have three weeks to draft and submit entries.Entries will be posted in the Contest Submission thread. Any entries posted elsewhere or PMed will be disregarded. At the end of this period, no further entries will be accepted.[*]The entries will be grouped into as few polls as possible for the initial round of voting.[*]Each round of voting will last for two to three days (48-72 hours).[*]The format of subsequent rounds of voting will be determined depending on the number of entries.[*]The three entries with the most votes in the final round of voting will be declared the winners. Any questions can be posted in the Contest Rules Thread or PMed to Contest Host Black Six.NOTE - All current TBRPGs must be submitted as entries if they wish to continue running.Entries can be SUBMITTED from now until 11:59 PM EDT on Saturday, September 22nd.You can review other entries and discuss the reviews in the Review Topic.
  21. And now the moment you've all been waiting for! Congrats to Grochi's Bane, A_Darksteel_Myr, and Ddude the Insane! I'll be sending each of you a PM shortly with your code. I'll note this again in the PM, but please PM me back once you get the code so that if one of you disappears off the face of the earth the code won't go to waste. For anyone else who entered: sorry you didn't win, but there's plenty of contests around BZP these days. Give 'em a shot - you never know how things'll turn out!
  22. Hey folks! Just making this as a separate post so it's a little more visible. Basically, this post is a confirmation list of anyone who's entered so far into the Premier Membership Giveaway. If you entered and you're on this list, all cool, carry on. If you entered and you're not on this list, or you're on this list and don't want to be entered, please let me know by commenting below. 23. (Apologies for bumping this so many times - just wanted to be sure people on BZP at different times would get the chance to see it, especially with the blogs being the way they are at the moment.) Hey there! Title drew you in, eh? Sounds good. Well, it's exactly as the title says: In celebration of BZP's 11th, I'm holding a Premier Membership giveaway. Why? 'Cause I'm sweet like that. And more importantly because I remember wanting a premier membership way back when and not being able to get one, and now that I actually have a job that enables me to donate ~$50 to BZP and not break my budget, I may as well spread the love a bit rather than just make a boring old donation. So! Here are the important details. Read this before entering. I will be giving away three one-year PMships via random drawing. The drawing will take place at 7:00 PM PST, Sunday, July 29th. Entrants' names will be collected into a list, which will be randomized through random.org. The top three names will receive a one-year PMship through BZP's store. Who can enter? Anyone who doesn't have a PMship may enter. However, if you can buy a PMship, I would prefer you don't enter. Like I said in the opening thing up there, I remember being young with no way of paying anything over the internet, and certainly no way of convincing my parents to buy something over the internet on my behalf. (A paid membership to a forum? I'd have been lucky if they didn't try to sue Dimensioneer and co. for fraud.) So ideally I'd like to get these out to members who want a PMship but cannot purchase one due to financial or logistical reasons. Obviously, if it turns out there are no such people around, I'll relax this. This also has the added benefit of BZP not losing out on the support from anyone who was planning to buy a PMship and then happened to win one. How do I enter? Just comment on this entry! Can I enter on someone else's behalf? Sure, but to keep this from just turning into a popularity contest, there is a one-person-one-entry limit. If you want to enter on someone else's behalf, you're going to have to announce that person in your comment - and then, of course, if that other person enters for themselves, your entry is essentially null. Basically, do this if you've got a friend who's out of town for the duration of the entry period or something like that. What happens if I win? I'll send you a PM with a voucher for BZP's store worth a 1-year PMship. Why 1-year memberships? Seems appropriate for an anniversary, doesn't it? Also, lifetime is crazy expensive and 6-month is comparatively poor value. Best of luck to everyone!
  24. Here's my first entry for the Flash Fire Character Design Contest! I chose to draw the Captain of the Guard, Jaller, who should need no further introduction. Click for full size I chose to illustrate him in the same style as a Macku drawing from a couple years back. I think I did a much better job with this drawing than with that one, of course. The pose is less simplistic and I tried to keep the lineart and coloring a lot cleaner.UPDATE: Here's my second entry, the venerable Turaga Vakama! Anyway, questions, comments, and criticism are encouraged! Not sure if I will stand much of a chance in this contest, but it's always great to have a motivation to keep drawing!
  25. Well folks, the second Comics contest has ended, and here we have the results! 1. Traitor by Soran [Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4]Topic 2. BIOCICLES ACTITON COMIC by Toa of Pumpkin [Page 1] 3.
