  1. I know that drawing lego people as anime-esqu figures is nothing new, but I just wanted to share these. I'm starting with Ninjago since it's closest to my heart, but I plan on hitting more themes as time goes on, especially Lego Movie, Chima, Nexo Knights, and Monkie Kid. More themes I'm open to, classics, 2000s stuff (Exo Force comes to mind), recent things like Hidden Side maybe. Might try to hit some of the cursed themes like Galidor and Jack Stone! Trying to get into Bionicle lore (struggled to get into it as a kid + the original ended when I was like, eight) so I may even do that. Though when that day comes, they probably won't be anime... Anyways, here's the first batch of Ninjago ones! Cheers! This is the beginning of a long project haha
  2. 506 pieces, $39.99 More photos on Instagram. Ninjago always has to do dragons, and I’ve appreciated how they’ve continued to crank out various fun designs over the years. The Jungle Dragon brings on a slightly revamped design but with a lot of teal, so what’s not to love? Also featuring the new Island / Jungle theme, so a new round of characters! You get four figs: Jungle Lloyd, Jungle Zane, PoulErik, and Thunder Keeper. The two islanders share the same torso design, with grass woven armor and lavender skin. Thunder Keeper has a brilliant looking mask, while PoulEric has two stacked heads, which is a fun concept. The new Ninja outfits include some new rugged textures, and Lloyd shows off his new hairpiece. Zane also has a little sailboat mini-build, keeping with the Ninja boat designs for the theme. It’s compact but still captures the same essence as the larger catamarans. The most interesting part of the build is that the dragon comes with a angled bend in the middle of its back, giving it an odd bent appearance that makes posing it a bit interesting. This also means that the legs, which are fairly short and lack elbow joints (per usual), don’t have a lot of range of motion; they mostly need to be extended all the way down to keep the dragon’s lowered belly off the ground. I’m not entirely thrilled with the design. On one hand, it gives the dragon a somewhat more canine and playful appearance, but I have not been happy with the posability of the whole thing. I don’t know the best ways to fix it either; the bend in the body could be on a joint, but the design is built around a rigid structure and adding another joint might be too weak to hold it together during play. The tail design is again loosely connected via technic axles, so it flops back and forth (which again makes it kind of dog-like.) The wings are also very bare-bones and difficult to pose well. The head makes good use of the new mold elements, and the attachment for the jaw does allow for the tongue to hang out, which just solidified the dog-ness of this dragon. I’m not super impressed with the build, to be honest. And yet, for all that it’s lacking, this dragon has character!. The head is very expressive, the few poses it can be in makes it look more playful and less intimidating than previous dragons, and the teal and gold color scheme works extremely well. So, in the end, I have to say that this dragon is indeed worthwhile. Plus, lots of teal pieces and some nice figs (including an exclusive Zane) meant that it was a must buy for me.
  3. 283 pieces, $29.99 More photos on Instagram The Tournament of Elements season was one of my favorite of the Ninjago show, so it’s cool to see a legacy set recreating scenes from it. Of course, the actual building isn’t super impressive; it’s a similar angled interior design that we’ve seen in other cheap Ninjago sets before, with the benefit of being two levels to allow for some vertical action. There’s fun placement of the various jade blades (including some hidden inside the white vases) as well as a compartment for the McGuffin book. Simple, but it works for the price, so I’ll take it. The minifigures are the obvious draw to the set, as you get a whopping 7 of them, including three brand new Elemental Masters for the first time. Obviously you need some of the Ninjas; Kai and Jay appear in their tournament outfits that are used across the Legacy theme. The chase fig in this set is Golden Lloyd, one of six golden figs placed throughout the Legacy sets that you’ll need to buy all of to form the full team. (I know I’m hooked on it, doesn’t mean I don’t recognize the marketing ploy.) In particular, this set had Lloyd’s new headgear piece from the Jungle sets, but it came out three months before those sets. Fun designs. You also get a Spinjitzu tornado and a handle to spin it around, a fun function to include in these sets. Also Eyezor makes an appearance as a filler baddie. The main draw are the three Elemental Masters: Bolobo, Gravis, and Jacob. Bolobo’s main feature is his beard, but he has a bare torso with some tattoos printed on him, and carries his plant staff. Gravis has a simple red outfit and turban, and his gravity powers are represented using purple dishes. Jacob, meanwhile, has a snazzy teal suit and his sonic guitar. Together, they help fill out most of the cast of Elemental Masters. (We’re still missing Chamille though.) As a build, this isn’t the most impressive set. But man is it packed with figs, so I think it is very much worth it. And the figs are varied enough that even non-Ninjago fans can appreciate them. Also like the green weapons pack included here. So very worthwhile one to pick up.
  4. Greetings! Right above this, you will see a poll. Personally, I think Master Chen and Pythor are the best Ninjago villains we have seen so far, and that the Overlord is a horrible villain and character. My reasons: Master Chen and Pythor P. Chumsworth are such unique and enjoyable characters, which is part of the reason why I love them as villains. They are also great plotters and manipulators. Master Chen owns a noodle franchise, has a presumably French assistant, loves theatrics, and controls an Anacondrai cult, whilst Pythor is basically a snake version of Sideshow Bob. What's not to like? On the other hand, the Overlord is an awful character. He has this silly grumbling voice that makes him sound more like an eight-year-old doing an impression of Dr. Claw than an intimidating master of darkness, needs everyone around him to help him to have a mere physical form, and needs the power that almost destroyed him in order to resurrect him... wait... what? Oh, and, he was defeated by both an outdated robot and a teenager wearing a golden kimono. Pathetic.
  5. Greg has only written a few Ninjago comics. But what if he wrote the entire Ninjago story from the beginning? How would the characters be? How would the world of Ninjago be? How would the Lore be? But what do you think? How do you think Ninjago would be if Greg was the writer of it?
  6. Well, the title kinda sums it up. Who is your favorite ninja? I left an "other" box for characters who aren't really part of the main ninja team like Dareth, Skylor, Seliel, and Lil' Nelson. After you vote in the poll I'd love if you'd leave a comment explaining what it is about your choice that appeals most to you! Mine was Zane for a long time, since as an autistic person I related a lot to his social awkwardness and analytical way of thinking. I also loved following the story of him discovering and coming to terms with his past from the 2011 chapter books onward. But around Season 5 I started to relate a lot to Nya's fear of failure spurred by years of high expectations, her independent streak, and her ongoing struggle to reconcile her romantic feelings with her growth as an individual. She became my favorite shortly thereafter. It helps that I absolutely LOVE her various costume designs, especially from season 7 onward when she finally gets a color to herself. I look forward to reading other people's choices!
  7. Once upon a time, around Nine years ago, I was a burgeoning fan of Ninjago, an avid reader of Brickipedia, and hadn't yet made my way to Mocpages. I was in the store, probably Books a Million, where I was flipping through a Ninjago Brickmaster book when I laid my eyes on my first mech. Not exactly the most inspired build, but was an inspiration to me. I mean come on! It was a Giant Robot, what could be cooler than that! I didn't end up buying the book since I was a child at the time, but my interest in Giant Robots was Peaked. Fast forwarding a few years, after a couple of dodgy attempts to make one with parts from the Toy Story Pizza Planet Truck, I was looking through Youtube to find some cool lego reviews and mocs, I stumbled across this video by Artifex Creation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtAMGj74Br0 Now, this blew my tiny Ninja obsessed mind, I had no idea that Lego mechs could be that big. Keep in mind that most of my time on Mocpages at the time was concerned with bionicle, and at the only mechs released for the theme where the Samurai X mech, the Fangpyre mech, the first Fire mech, and the previously mentioned Skulkin Mech. Unfortunately I lacked any real parts to build something substantial, so I sat on my hands for a bit. But all that Changed once I got my filthy mits on Superman V. Power Armor Lex I wanna say that was late 2013/early 2014 since I was really looking forward to the upcoming rebooted season. I mean Come on, they were fighting Robots! So I tried my hand at building some sort of Nindroid Lighting Mech with the parts I had. The only problem? I didn't have any Nindroids, so I ended up making some amalgamation of Final Battle Jay and the Series 8 Evil Robot. He had stolen Jay's powers and color scheme. Cut me some slack guys. Fortunetly, I was about to get some of those sweet Ninja robots with my first Ninjago mech: The Destructoid This Thing had it all: Choping blades! A Disk Shooter! A Sawblade! Tank tracks! And a sword! This thing was awesome, and it was another in a long line of Ninjago Purchases. Fast Forwarding to 2017, I fully caught up with the show, and excited for the movie, and moreso the sets. We had gotten some pretty goods mech in the past, but it seemed that with the film came a renaissance of Ninjago set designs. Bigger, Bolder builds that sought to do more than what came before it, and that was where my problem began: The Garma Mecha Man. Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with the set, it serves its purpose as an affordable imitation of the onscreen build at an smaller scale. It's well built and fun to mess around with, if a bit chunky. No, the problem came when you compared it to some of the other sets in the wave. (Picture taken from the Brickset Review) The Garma Mecha Man isn't exactly the most imposing build. In the film, it seemed like it could go toe to toe with all six ninja vehicles at once. The Set looks like it could hardly go up against one, so I set out to build one that could. Not my best work, I'll admit. This early design was plagued with poor shaping, weak knees, and a waste that was only held on by four studs, though it could fit a figure inside. It was a rough start, and disassembled soon after, but it was a stepping stone for bigger and better things: Garmagedon Constructed with the parts of The Nindroid Mechdragon, The Destructoid, The Garma Mecha Man, the Iron Doom, the Oni Titan, The Water Strider, and whatever odds and ends I had laying around, and with the Four Golden Weapons plugged into its chest, the mech was almost on the verge of perfection. The only Problems? My attempt at torso articulation left no room for a cockpit, made the build very unstable, and provided very little movement. A rework was in order before I could hope on showing it off, and to help celebrate the ten year anniversary of Ninjago, I got off my butt and decided to get to work. And that brings us to today. Countless reworks, and two extra arms, I'd like to show you guys the finished **Shogun Titan** I know I've talked a lot in this post, but I hope that my work speaks for itself. Oh, and sorry for any fuzzy pictures.
  8. And now to move onto the biggest set of the themes... More photos on Instagram: The build process Set highlights and action features The minifigures 71722 Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons is $99.99 and has 1171 pieces. And it is good. Ninjago has done a bunch of big based before, but something about this one feels like more of the adventurer big sets from the late 90s... y'know, the ones I never was able to buy but admired a lot in the magazines. Part of this has to do with the game board setup, where you have paths leading up and around the temple, giving it more of a sense of adventure than a standard building or temple. The rocky structure works out nicely, but the detailed skull design that fits atop it really draws the eyes, and the underlying orange plates as lava add to the environmental feel. On the main level, you have a campfire on one side of the skull and a weapons cache on the other. Meanwhile, on the back side of the mountain you have the Skull Sorcerer's office, complete with some nice decorations and a portrait of him before he got all skull-faced. The right path is pretty meager and comparable to the paths seen in some of the smaller sets, although it features a mini stone bridge. The left path has a more substantial bridge and uses a neat trick to extend the ladder up towards the tower without actually connecting to it. To add to the game play, there are also hidden hearts and weapons along the paths. (I tried to look up the rules for the board game but it's so generic that I think you're better off customizing them yourself.) There are a couple of fun action features squeezed into the landscape too. If you push the pathway beneath the skull's mouth, you can open the doorway to one of the swords. (This is a fun feature that has been utilized a few times before, like in one of the Elves castles, but it's still a good one.) You also have a lever you can pull back on the top to send back the spikes and reveal the other sword. Meanwhile, if you turn the tower on the left, you activate all sorts of sequences. It causes blades to spin on the bridge and raises / lowers the cage on the far right. (The cage, meanwhile, is the exact same design from the cheaper set.) The most ambitious part, however, is the paths leading up to the skull, which the sequence causes to rise and fall. The latter one does have a tendency to get stuck so it's not quite as fluid as I would've liked, but it's impressive. And the main tower uses a rubber piece to lock the turns, so you don't have a lot of slack running through the full thing. You get a full selection of figs to play with too. Lloyd, Zane, and Cole fill out the Ninja roster (the other half of the team is in the skeleton dragon set.) You also get the troll Munce character and the goblin Ginkle character, who turn out to be Ninja allies in the show. The black Skeleton warrior is not tho, but he's generic so it's okay to hate him. The Skull Sorcerer is nicely detailed, and the same as he was in the dragon set. Unique to this set is Vania, who has her own unique color scheme that really stands out in the dungeons. Also two game play stands and a dice spinner. As a play set, I think this might be one of the better Ninjago sets from the whole theme. The concept of tying all the sets together as a board-game really adds to their play value, and I could see younger kids spending a lot of time with this set with all the adventures it offers. From a purely display angle, it's not the most picturesque with some of the flimsy paths, but the skull design certainly holds its own. It makes a worthwhile set for any Ninjago fan... s'long as they can afford it, because it is on the pricey side.
  9. So I've been forced to relearn how to deal with images in BZP blogs. (Yeah, this isn't the highest traffic place around anymore, but how else am I supposed to scream my thoughts out into the void??) Flickr restructured and became unusable for a large quantity of images, and Brickshelf is another older platform that I just don't use that much anymore. I was trying to go for the Instagram route for photos of sets to do quick reviews on, but then embedding broke on BZP (I don't know which side is responsible, but knowing the issues with the forum's server I bet it's on our side.) But, lo and behold, we have that whole gallery thing that I've never utilized. And sooooo... went and spammed a bunch of review pictures there and updated all my mini reviews from the last couple of years. I'll still upload full galleries to Instagram but I'll at least have some visuals to post here. And I still have some Ninjago stuff to cover from last year before I start focusing on the new sets. So without further ado... More photos and videos on Instagram, obviously. The Skull Sorcerer's Dragon, AKA Skeleton Dragon, goes for $79.99 USD and has 1016 pieces. I'm reluctant to call it the largest Ninjago dragon ever (it probably ranks up there) but it's the largest I've owned so far, so it's still quite impressive. The wings are the biggest stand out for me; they are cloth and have a really awesome printing to them, even as they take up a TON of space. The dragon is mainly white with dark grey along its spine and trans bright green highlights. The torso is impressive with it's skeletal rib designs, and guess what, it also has a Tridax pod built in! If you push a lever on the dragon's back, the ribs pop opened and the trans green boulder can be dropped. The head tops it off with an impressive spikey design. Of course, the dragon has its faults, and the biggest one is possibility. While the hind legs have the standard motions you'd expect from a Ninjago dragon, the front legs are locked at the shoulders, forcing it to remain in the same forward stance at all times. (It has elbows to allow it to raise itself up and down a bit, but I think too much mobility is lost without the shoulders.) As such, the dragon only really looks good in one pose, and trying to adjust that just looks awkward. And it doesn't help that the front legs also tend to hide the cooler rib designs of the torso. I also found the swinging tail to be quite annoying after a while; it's hard to pose in a position that is not wrapping back around the dragon's body. Good as a play feature, yes, bad for posing. Of course, keeping with the game-board-like designs of all these Ninjago Master of the Mountain sets, this one has some landscape bits, but they are rather weak. You have a turntable that can act as a switch to swing them to three different islands in the laval. One of those islands also has a statue that's built on a neat little action feature; press down slightly on the game stand that the Ninja is supposed to land on, and the statue falls on top of them. It also comes with two of the game stands with heath hearts, which are in most of this theme's sets, as well as the dice-spinner. The figs are decent, but again are secondary to the main dragon. You get Kai, Jay, and Nya in their new armor. (Fun fact, the other half of the Ninjas come in the Skull Sorcerer's Dungeon, so if you get both of those sets then you get a full team of ninja!) The new armor and helmets are interesting, and while Nya and Jay have neat torso designs, Kai's feels a bit bland with just a giant emblem. Printed shields are a plus tho. On the bad guy's side, you have the Skull Sorcerer himself, with a detailed robe and a fancy special mask (built into the hat tho, sorry). The two black skeletons are identical and a bit generic, but hey it can help build up your skeleton army. In the end, I'm not quite sure if this is the most worthwhile set. The dragon is massive and detailed but is not exactly the best to display with it's lack of posability. (I might remove the front legs entirely and make it a Wyvern, but then it would be far too front heavy.) The figs are great, the landscape is meh, and the pieces are actually pretty good, with a lot of fun whites. (Not a while lot of new stuff that I could see.) A fitting dragon for sure. Anyway, more Ninjago stuff to come. Allow me to continue to scream into the void.
  10. I got a handful of Ninjago sets this last month, so I'll start out the new year by looking at some of the Ninjago "Master of the Mountain" sets from last year! First up: The Spinjitzu Burst spinner packs. More photos and videos on Instagram In case it wasn't obvious, I'm a sucker for exclusive Ninjago figs, and the various spinner packs are always enticing for their new figs, even if they are generally lackluster in the builds. This batch is another spinner you set off by slamming a lever, not unlike the Spinjitzu Slam sets from 2019. Unfortunately, only three were released, so you only get Cole, Kai, and Lloyd. This irks me, because as a completionist, I am now left without Jay, Zane, or Nya. (And like the Arcade packs only came with Jay, Kai, and Lloyd, and last year's Spinjitzu slam only featured Lloyd, Kai, Zane, and Jay. Nya seems to get left out of all of these packs.) (Plus I just caught up on the show, and only Cole actually does the Spinjitzu Slam, so what are Kai and Lloyd trying to do here??) The figs themselves are actually pretty neat, with elemental energy torso designs and new head prints. They also come with rounded straw hats, and when I got a red and black hat out of Cole and Kai, I was hopeful for a new green variant for Lloyd, but alas he only gets a boring silver hat that doesn't really match with his scheme at all. The spinners themselves are new. The central bit has a stud connection for the ninjas and then bar attachments on four sides, so maybe reusable. The various fins are crystalline and come in some neat colors, but the problem is they're only connection point is a bar clip... and I'm not sure how secure it would be in different bar settings. When you rubber band them together, they hold together and form a Spinjitzu tornado, and the rounded straw hats actually fill out the top nicely. The bases (and the main build) for all three sets are pretty much identical, with the only difference being the colored trans 1x1 piece decorations. The coloring fits in with the rock and lava style from the main sets, but it would've been nicer if it wasn't the same exact repeat three times; previous spinners have done their bases in different colors, why couldn't we have had that again? Anyway, the idea is you position the spinners on the base, slam down on the lever, and send them spinning. The results vary. You need to apply a lot of force to get them started, so anything half hearted just causes them to immediately slump over. If you can get them moving fast enough, the fins actually fan out as it spins, which is neat. Otherwise, it's a classic Ninjago top. Fun for a little bit, but replay value seems limited (I mean how long can you be entertained by spinners. They've pulled this gimmick off quite a lot and I'm sure it's getting old.) And, of course, there's no real display value. So overall. It's fun, and if you haven't gotten one of these before it could be nice to pick up and test out a bit. And some of the fin pieces could be nice to use in sets, and of course the unique figs are a draw. But unless you want all the figs, not really worth picking up multiple copies. (Alas, I am in the former, and will always beckon to the call of impulse spinner sets with unique figs.)
  11. The video game style Prime Empire wave of Ninjago sets is interesting. On one hand, I love the aesthetic they have going with the white and trans lime highlights, and the figs are all great. On the other hand, some of the builds were... less than desirable. Not so much that they were bad, but they didn’t stand out too much from the builds of previous Ninjago vehicles and dragons. And I have sampled a lot of Ninjago sets over the years, so it's really easy to get bored with repeated designs. But last winter I decided to test the waters with this set. It’s $29.99 and has 322 pieces. More photos on Instagram This was also the first set where I noticed Lego’s changes in the instructions, as Lloyd appeared a lot whenever you have to flip the set around, and it also had you build mirrored sides of the vehicles at the same time, something I just did automatically but is neat to see them implementing it for younger builders. There are four basic structures here: Lloyd’s bike, Jay’s jet, Hausner’s surfboard, and the stand for the Key-Tana. I do like how the Key-Tana piece can fit easily in an axle hole. The surfboard has a few extra pieces slipped to it, but it’s not very impressive compared to the two other vehicles. We’ve had a lot of Ninjago bikes before; there’s usually one in every wave. For a while I was trying to do reviews on them all, but I got a bit burned out after a while. Lloyd’s bike does have some sleek green elements, including the two wedge pieces with legit printing on em. I guess the big back wheel is also fairly new; it’s the first one I got. And the angled front blades and the trailing TRON style back blades are nice touches. Unfortunately, the bike isn’t exactly well balanced, and it doesn’t have any kickstand to support it. You can somewhat balance it, but because the back wheel’s tire surface is not quite flat, it topples over easily. I’m not exactly blown away by this bike, having built many others before, but it’s still pretty good and colored nicely to fit into a video game race. Jay’s jet is a bit better, with a sleeker feel to it too, and the blue / white color scheme really pops. It makes good use of blades wings, curves slopes, and wedges to make this look very aerodynamic. My favorite design is the angles boomerangs used on the back! There’s a technic connectors in the center, and you can inset the Key-Tana and fold out the wings, which is a nice feature too. However... Ninjago has done its share of jets too, and many also have this wing spreading function built in too. This one might be on the smallest scale, but it does mean the gear connections are a little loose to accommodate the small size. Yes, maybe some of the other, larger jets pull off the look better, but to have two midsized vehicles in one $30 set is still a pretty good value for play. I mean, you can legitimately race these two, which isn’t always possible with vehicle sets, so I appreciate that. The figs are great. I didn’t really talk about the Digi outfits in my previous review, but I really love the white and primary color designs they have, and the technical designs for the faces are nice too. To top it off, giving them game controllers as the handles for their weapons was super creative. (And you can’t really tell from my pictures, but the controller pieces are also used to control the two vehicles.) The life icons on their backs are a little bulky and get in the way of play and display, but they’re easily removed, and it’s another neat way to connect the characters to the game. In this set, their enemy is a rat-like avatar named Hausner, who also makes for an unusual character but it kind of works. (Hey, at least the rats are different than more snakes.) I’m not sure if this is the best valued set in the wave; I’ve heard good things about the dragons, the car, and the final temple. I just personally wasn’t interested in those so went for these. I wouldn’t say they’re the greatest Ninjago vehicles ever, but they’re still good, and there are more than a few nice pieces mixed in with the cool figs. So yeah, worth it.
  12. Oh hey I think I'll actually review a set I've picked up from this year... More picts on Instagram Okay, this is one of Ninjago's more substantial figs packs. 9 figs for $29.99? Not bad! Well, okay, the builds are bad, polybag level IMO. But the weapons and accessories more than make up for it. We've got katana in gold, silver, azure, pale green, red, and orange all in one set. And the new gamepad weapon hilts are super fun! Not to mention that pink sword that does fit loosely into an axle hole. And more of the Ninjago blades pack in trans green! This set is great for the figs and accessories, but mostly supplemental when it comes to actual sets. $30 for 218 pieces is a bit steep, after all, so this is really targeting minifig enthusiasts. (I'm one, so it still works out for me.) For the figs... you get four of the Ninjas. Jay is in his new Digi outfit, very cool looking with the blue and white and cyber face, but he shows up in a bunch of other sets. Cole and Nva get their generic Avatar forms here, which is cool because they didn't get the arcade pods like Jay, Kai, and Lloyd... of course, their torsos are common City ones so nothing too exciting. The highlight of this set is Pink Gi Zane; I guess it's supposed to be his avatar, but it's placement in the set makes it look more like a display, so who knows who he's supposed to be character wise. Still, it's a great callback to a one-shot fig from the early years of the TV show. (Second year but first season... the numbering of the TV seasons irks me.) The baddies here are Red Visor and Richie, both who appear in other sets but still come with the trans orange icons and such. Richie is interesting with his custom head and wields a game controller weapon too. Scott has a fancy pale blue outfit, and while Okino is in a very generic white robe, he comes with the new ponytail hair piece, which is fun because the ponytail includes a bar element that can be gripped. The final fig is the Harumi avatar; I first thought she was in a prisoner's uniform, but I guess it's actually more of a standard orange jumpsuit. Dunno if this is supposed to represent her returning to the series or just a depiction of her... haven't actually caught up on the last few seasons of Ninjago. There are three marketplace stands, which look even less interesting because I didn't apply stickers. One is a standard red / black arch, but I couldn't ruin the nice 6x6 teal tile with a sticker, so it stayed blank. Then you have the weapons market, which has a lot of the green blades attached to it. Some interesting connections, but still fairly simple. The "Item Market" is even more generic with basic bars making up a hat stand (and a place for pink Zane to stand). It's neat to get a lot of headgear to customize your figs, but display wise it's filler. I mean, not a whole lot to really say about this set. Great figs and accessories. Lousy builds. But I think for the price and number of figs, that's to be expected. I am interested in getting a couple more of the substantial Ninjago Prime Empire sets to see how they build out the theme.
  13. So I'm still too lazy to do proper front page reviews with custom pictures, write-ups, and massively edited video... and also we've stopped doing Youtube Livestreams. But I still have a backlog of sets I want to build (and talk about) so I'll be posting a few more brief blog reviews with images via Instagram! (Since Flickr has it's whole image count thing). So without further ado... Ninjago's 70678 Castle of the Forsaken Emperor More Instagram photos and videos Gotta be honest, I picked this up for the cool minifigures and then for the pieces, but the build itself is actually pretty neat too. It's $99.99 for 1218 pieces, so a bit pricy but still a decent value. It comes with 7 figs, a dragon, a guard tower, and a "castle". The figs are good. The Ice Emperor has some neat printing on him and enough hints to verify that it is actually evil Zane. (Haven't quite caught up on the show, don't know how he turned out this way but just know that he did.) The other Blizzard minions are okay but again fairly generic; azure katanas for the win though. Cole is a nice grab, and this is the version of Lloyd with the could energy helmet which was a huge want for me. But the fox-like Akita steals the show for the figs here; good printing but also an excellent helmet. The guard tower is so-so; it has a little mini prison on the bottom, but the cooler design is the functional crossbow at the top. (I mean, it doesn't function like a crossbow but it looks really close and the spring loaded launchers handle the action feature well enough.) The main castle involves an icy throne with two towers rising up to the sides. The ice detailing on the throne is cool and I like the use of the printed flags as roof elements. But the coolest part is the action feature. Place the ninja in the ice spikes and push the lever; the two towers split out to reveal the throne, which has ice blasts shoot up behind it. Best of all, the spikes in the front spin, so when you put Lloyd in his tornado it looks like his Spinjitzu causes the towers to slide away as he approaches the emperor. I think this is the cleverest incorporation of Spinjutzu into a Ninjago set ever. Very fun. Of course, the true highlight of the set is the dragon. To be fair, there have been a few other brick built Ninjago dragons who have used a similar design with the wings before (NRG Green Dragon pops to mind) but this is the first one I've picked up like this and I'm totally impressed with it. In addition to decent posability, the icy color scheme totally works. Only real downside is that the head is a bit small and doesn't stand out compared to some of the other dragons we've seen out of Ninjago. But it is still up there as a great model and I've already taken it to work to display on my desk. Woo. Overall, I think this is a very worthwhile set, capturing a lot of great things from Ninjago and mixing it with the cool icy theme. It's a little expensive, yes, but if you can handle the price I'd totally recommend this. Anyway, thanks for reading, planning to go through a couple of other 2019 sets that I've been hording and post some pictures and reviews.
  14. Game Link So, this is my game entry for the Ninjago contest. I've been working on it for a couple of weeks now, and I've had the idea since the contest was announced. It's fairly simple, but it got the basic amount of gameplay that I wanted in. The first step is to design your own Ninjago character. You can select from different styles out outfits, choose your elements, weapons, hair, and head covers, and also select your color, which includes shades that you couldn't come by in sets! Furthermore, I added a gender selection too, so each outfit has a design for both males and females, which was honestly the most fun to work on! All in all, there are over 300,000 combinations that can be pulled off here, so you can truly make your own unique Ninja, or try to redesign one of the characters. The next step is to battle enemies in different locations. You get bonus points based on your attributes depending on what location you are in or what enemy you are facing. Thus, some combinations are better than others, but often only in certain situations! You can challenge a random enemy in a random location, and keep track of your score in the main window. WHAT IS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE Originally this was going to be more of a campaign game, where you still design your ninja, but you have a limited number of options. You would cycle through opponents by year, and after so many wins, you would progress to the next year, and get upgrades! Alas, this was a bit more than I could draw / code given the time, so I stuck to a simpler version of the game. WHAT IT COULD STILL BE I have some more enemy characters I would like to add, and there's always the potential to add more outfits, hairstyles, weapons, ext. I also like the idea of adding some permanent bonus features, like after 10 wins, you can unlock Sensei Wu's beard and get +2 bonus points against all enemies. It would also be cool to add a print feature so people could save their ninja character designs, but for now their best bet is to just print-screen it. I would also like to add some basic animations to the characters while they stand before the battle, particularly the enemies, to allow the movement to better define their characters. Such example would be to have Scale's eyes spin or for Frakjaw to threateningly swing his axe. All the characters and fig elements are based off the actual Lego designs and proportions, although there's a bit of leeway here and there. The backgrounds come from various form of Ninjago media (as well as a certain Flash game from another 2001 Lego theme). Rather than straight up trace them or use unedited images, I chose to vectorize them in illustrator before adding them to the game. Anyway, let me know how you enjoy the game. Big thanks to Swert for putting up with all my "HEY WANNA TEST A GAME" messages.
  15. My entry for round 1 of this year's Bio-Cup. The theme was "Nature" with my bracket's subtheme being Rodents. I was at a loss as to what to build for so long, but when a friend unrelated to the cup informed me that the weird mutant villains in the Prime Empire wave of Ninjago are actually rats - who would've guessed? - it all came together.
  16. There are many what if in history, what if Rome had not fallen, Hitler had been killed in WW1, and if Indiana Jones 4 did not feature aliens. We are here to discuss if Ninjago had stayed cancelled. Overall I believe this might have been beneficial to Lego in the long run. G2 might have been more successful, Chima might still be around, and there might be more original themes rather than licensed ones. Do you agree or what are your opinions.
  17. Many people have been saying how Hero Factory has been doing so much better than Bionicle. However, without actual sales reports from Lego or Lego employees to back up these claims (as far as I know), I have been very skeptical about it.I have also become very interested in Dungeons and Dragons and so, with the announcement of D&DNext, there was much talk across the blogs. One blog used Google Insights to show how Pathfinder (the competing RPG) had surpassed Dungeons and Dragons a little after 4th Edition D&D was released in Google searches. Now, while Pathfinder didn't actually start outselling D&D until this past year, it was a good indicator of what people were interested in.So, I decided to put Bionicle and Hero Factory in. The results I got are shown below.(Blue is Bionicle, Red is Hero Factory)I found this graph to be rather interesting. A few notes before I go on: Bionicle didn't dip below Hero Factory until around 2011 and HF didn't have a definite "lead" over Bionicle until the second half of 2011. That's after two waves of Hero Factory. It also doesn't really seem to show that Bionicle was dying in 2008-2009 compared to earlier years. While this only goes back to 2004, 2005 looks like it was a rather weak year, but late 2006 through early 2007 look stronger. The time TLR was released (approximately) is one of the top 3 or 4 peaks for Bionicle since 2004.Hero Factory, at least as far as Google searches indicate, has not been nearly as successful as Bionicle. That's not to say that it's been a complete flop, but it doesn't look like it is as much of a hit as Bionicle. Now this could potentially be attributed to Bionicle having a stronger fan base. I disagree. Hero Factory has had several TV series that got much more publicity than TLR did by having them premiere on TV rather than go directly to DVD.It is also worth noting that Ninjago has completely passed any levels that Bionicle or Hero Factory had, leaving them in the dust.(Blue is Bionicle, Red is Hero Factory, Yellow is Ninjago)Because we don't have actual records from Lego, I don't think it can be said that Hero Factory is more successful than Bionicle and that Bionicle was a dying franchise. These numbers seem to suggest otherwise.(Or maybe this just means that whatever Greg Farshtey works on turns out to be really successful product lines )Please correct me if I’m not reading these graphs correctly or am not aware of some announcements from Lego saying the HF is doing better than Bionicle was.Let's Keep Bionicle Alive,Lewa Krom
  18. Hi, guys. Since we read today about the descriptions about March of the Oni stuff, it sounds like that the franchise will be going to end this year. It sure sounds like it. However, I need to know what are the other nine Realms and how Zane got his Ice powers first before anything else. As much as Bionicle 2001-2010, Ninjago’s constraction counterpart, ended in nine years, the same would go to Ninjago this year. Has anyone noticed any future sets this year as well? If Ninjago is truly ending, then we would say goodbye to it. It’s been fun for these nine years. What do you think, guys?
  19. Hi, guys! You know, there will be Season 9 for the Ninjago TV show, one of our favorite Lego media, coming this summer. Now, let me ask you guys this: What are your expectations for this season? Well, for me, here’s the list: 1. Wu turning back into his original old adult form. 2. The relation between those dragon hunters and the Sons of Garmadon because they are quite similar (mainly the clammy gray skin color) 3. Skylor, P.I.X.A.L., and Nya going Avengers: Infinity War on Harumi (but letting her live). 4. The Ninja and Wu coming back to Ninjago to defeat Lord Garmadon. 5. Lord Garmadon either turned back to his original and good-hearted human form again or killed again. I mean, he has to be get rid of. He can’t be a four-armed villain forever. 6. Good character development, including on the Dragon Hunters. 7. We would learn more about the Oni and the Dragons. 8. The Ninja using the dragon to easily defeat the dragon hunters. 9. We would learn about the Sons of Garmadon and the dragon hunters. 10. A crossover between Ninjago and Nexo Knights. I would like to see a bunch of things from there: I would imagine when the Ninja from Ninjago would get out of a realm called the Realm of the Oni and Dragons, they would accidentally end up in the Nexo Knights’ world to meet the Nexo Knights. The Ninja would ask the Knights for help to bring them back to the land of Ninjago and fight against Lord Garmadon (Madagascar movies, anyone?). The Nexo Knights would either go to help the Ninja fight Garmadon Thor-Ragnarok-in-2017 style or Avengers-Infinity-War-in-this-year style (I mean, the Ninja would need more help than what they have) or they would just give the Ninja new weapons. I would love to see the Nexo Knights’ world being one of the 16 Realms parellel to Ninjago because of the evidence in the past. I would also love a scene where the Ninja crash-land on the Knights’ Fortrex, the Knights notice this and then help the Ninja feel better from the crash, the Ninja and Knights relating their problems with each other’s, like how they suffer corrupted parents (it would be like Thor from A: IW meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy after he hit their ship by accident), Wu and Merlok being the best of friends, the Ninja probably go to help the Knights with their problems first (which means fighting Monstrox, Ruina Stoneheart, and their army of techno-virus monsters), Merlok having known the First Spinjitzu Master to be his close friend, Monstrox revealed being a being with the blood of the Oni from Ninjago and/or there’s a carving in NK’s world that tells about the Oni and the Dragon (not sure, but yeah), the two teams of heroes having funny moments together, and Merlok creating a portal to have the Ninja and Knights go to Ninjago to work together to fight and defeat Garmadon (maybe get help from Animal Tribes from Legends of Chima as well on this one. Plus, I would like to imagine certain things, like Kai and Lance talking about their narcissism together, Cole and Axl being best super-strong buds, Karlof saying to Axl that he has nice metal gloves, Kai telling Macy that she reminds him of Skylor, Cole and Clay being magical buds, Zane and Aaron being archer buds, the Ninja telling Robin that he reminds them of Lloyd, Macy and Nya talking about having blue boyfriends, Wu and Merlok working together, the Ninja and Knights do teamwork combo attacks on Garmadon and his forces, Merlok making new Nexo Powers based off the Ninja’s abilities, etc.). This whole thing would take up two Ninjago episodes. Good stuff. There’s gotta be a reason why there isn’t a Season 5 for the Nexo Knights TV show (I don’t like how Lego is acting strange and ridiculous this decade for how it tells most of its original stories. I do not want Nexo Knights to end up like Bionicle G1). I think this would be a good alternative to end the Nexo Knights show’s story. So yeah. These are my expectations. What about yours?
  20. Ninjago's been around for over seven years now and I'm curious how people feel about how its quality has held up over the years. Have the sets and story gotten better, worse, or stayed about the same? Overall, I feel that Ninjago started strong and has generally gotten stronger. It's true that there are a few sets from early in the theme's run that still feel outstanding, like 9441 and 2507. But I also feel like the sets have gotten much more detailed and refined. This is most obvious with sets that are specific redesigns of earlier ones, like 70738 versus 9446 or 70595 versus 9449, but also apparent with a lot of other sets like 70596, 70627, and the ninja vehicles from the movie. And while some of the most memorable moments of the show for me are still early ones like Zane discovering his true nature as a Nindroid, the characters have certainly developed a lot since then. Nya in particular has gone from a sort of generic action girl (highly capable but still relegated to the role of supporting character) to a full member of the team with her own personal challenges to overcome and a deeper connection to her teammates. And Lloyd has evolved from a sort of a wannabe ninja to the emotional center of the team and sometimes even its de facto leader. But I'm curious to hear what everybody else thinks!
  21. Hi, guys! This year, 2018, is the 5th anniversary to one of Ninjago's set waves that was released in 2013 and involved the Stone Army and The Final Battle. Let's talk about it to celebrate the anniversary. For the storyline, it is said in this topic: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/25753-happy-5th-anniversary-to-the-stone-army-season-2012/ . I have no idea why Lego tell the whole story in 2012 instead of 2013, but alright. Plus, I have no idea why you guys never talked about that topic at all. Now, for the sets, they look very cool. I like the Ninja's new outfits and the new crooked sword pieces that make up the Elemental Blades that the Ninja used. Lloyd looks awesome with his new Golden Ninja outfit! Kai's mech looks cool and cute. A little stubby, but good. Cole's drill vehicle looks very neat. I also love Lloyd's mech, too! Nice gold and white colors on it. Lloyd's Golden Dragon looks very cool, too. It's strange that the Ninja didn't have the shoulder pads from the show, and Lloyd's eyes are dark red. Plus, the sets should've included a normal version of Lloyd from the show. Weird. The Stone Army looks cool. They look like samurais. I like Kozu's new extra-pair-of-arms piece. The helmets are very neat, too. I like their red and black color schemes. Their vehicles are awesome, and I like their red and black color schemes and the new sword-like pieces, too. The motorcycle with the thread looks cool, and the Garmatron looks awesome. That vehicle look like that it is a face that shoots a missile from its mouth. Too bad that we don't have one that looks like a four-legged animal from the show for some reason because it also looks very cool and interesting. Plus, too bad that we don't have a set for the Overlord's dragon form. Also, it's weird that in the sets, Lord Garmadon looks like that he wears a helmet with a mouth piece to show that he is possessed by the Overlord, while the show only show Garmadon as a reptilian monster. Weird. The temple looks very neat. So, what about you guys? I mean, what do you think about them? How do you think we celebrate the anniversary of the set wave, too?
  22. Hi, guys! If anyone likes Ninjago's second TV season in 2012, which is about the Ninja fighting against Lord Garmadon with the Mega-Weapon and the Stone Army and Overlord in The Final Battle, let's celebrate the 5th anniversary of the season. So, yeah, happy 5th anniversary to the season! First, let’s talk about the plot of the season: The second season begins with the Ninja find a new home since their past home was destroyed while training Lloyd. Their powers are decreased because they are linked to the Golden Weapons. Since Lord Garmadon has them and is far away from the Ninja, this causes the Ninja's powers to decrease and become useless much. Meanwhile, Garmadon starts leading the Serpentine, which upsets Skales because he wants to lead them. Garmadon combines the Weapons into a new one called the Mega-Weapon, which can create and revive things. He uses it to cause some problems, but the Ninja stops him. Along the way, a group of thieving pirates, led by their captain named Soto, are revived from their deaths 200 years ago. Also, an incident causes Lloyd to magically rapidly grow up into a teenager, causing him to get closer to the prophecy about him being the Green Ninja. When Garmadon notices this, he time-travels to try to undo the forming of the Ninja, so he can stop Lloyd from becoming the Green Ninja, but they destroy the Mega-Weapon to save the world from Garmadon. Later, the Ninja, Wu, and Lloyd discovers Lloyd's mother, Misako, who tells them history of the land of Ninjago and the full contents of the prophecy. Meanwhile, Garmadon goes to find an island called the Island of Darkness after Skales overthrew him to lead the Serpentine. After finding the island, Garmadon encounters an ancient evil being called the Overlord, who tells him to help the Overlord with something bad, and Garmadon starts by rising the island from the ocean. Meanwhile, the Devourer's venom touches an army of stone statues called the Stone Army and brings them back to life. The Ninja try to defeat them, but the army is made of an indestructible material, so they can't be defeated. Later on, the Ninja and their allies meet Zane's long-lost creator and "father", who helps them out on their journey to the Island of Darkness. The Stone Army is operating there and serves Garmadon, as he wears a magical helmet called the Helmet of Shadow, which can control the army. When the Ninja arrived in the island, they find a magical temple called the Temple of Light, which they use to give Lloyd their elemental powers to make him stronger, themselves magical blades called the Elemental Blades that can use their powers, and new suits. The Ninja are able to defeat the Stone Army. However, the Overlord plans to create a tank called Garmatron, which can shoot an evil magical substance called Dark Matter that can turn people evil. Garmadon cares about Misako. Lloyd doesn't want to fight his father, so he hesitates. Plus, the bad guys have a clock that counts down to an event called the Final Battle, which involves prophecy. The Ninja try to stop the countdown to prevent the event from happening, but they are too late, as the Battle begins. The Army kidnaps Nya and uses the Dark Matter to turn her into their evil servant. The bad guys use Garmatron to turn some people in Ninjago into their evil servants. Lloyd is ready to fight Garmadon, but the Overlord takes over and turns Garmadon's body into a reptile-like monster when he can get out of the Island of Darkness, as it is revealed that the prophecy means that Lloyd has to fight actually the Overlord rather than his father. The bad guys go from the Island of Darkness to Ninjago while leaving the good guys behind. The good guys are trapped, but they found Lloyd's grandfather, the First Spinjitzu Master's golden mech, and the Ultra-Dragon found the good guys, so they all can go back to Ninjago. When they arrived, they are fighting the bad guys while the Overlord is transforming into his original form, which is a powerful dragon that can breathe dark energy that turns people evil. Luckily, the bad guys accidentally leave the Helmet of Shadows behind, so an ally of the Ninja, Dareth, wears and uses it to control the Stone Army to help the Ninja get to the Overlord. However, Nya and the Overlord are stopping the Ninja, but Lloyd gets to the Overlord while the other Ninja buy him some time by taking care of the Overlord's servants. When Lloyd started fighting the villain, he unlocks his true potential, which turns his green Ninja suit gold to become the Golden Ninja, making him the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master. He can use a new elemental power called power, powerful golden energy called Golden Power, and can summon a dragon made of his energy that he can ride on. Lloyd defeats the Overlord, restoring peace to Ninjago, making the Stone Army disappear (that is weird), curing everyone who turned evil by the Overlord and Dark Matter, and destroying the Devourer's venom within Garmadon to cure him to make him a good guy again while turning him back to his original and normal human form. The season ends. That’s the plot. Now, here’s my opinion about it: I like the season. It was great and epic. It’s a bummer that the Ninja can’t use their powers much because their Golden Weapons are gone. Garmadon is funny when he struggled working with the Serpentine and learning how to use the Mega-Weapon. Speaking of the Mega-Weapon, it is very cool that it can create things. It’s like a weapon equivalent to the Ninja’s Tornado of Creation. I feel bad that the Ninja lost their home because of the Great Devourer and were struggling to find a new home. However, good thing that they got their old home back. It’s awesome that the Ninja and Lloyd got some neat stuff, like the Ultra Sonic Raider’s function to split up into two vehicles (could’ve happened in the Serpentine Season, which was earlier in 2012, because its set can do that), Lloyd learning to use a new elemental power called Power, to do Spinjitzu, having the same abilities as the Golden Weapons, having a golden suit, summon a dragon that is made of his power, and the Ninja getting the Elemental Blades, which made up their weakened powers. It’s neat that Lloyd is being trained to become the Green Ninja as he learned to ride the Ultra Dragon, using Spinjitzu and elemental powers, and unlock his true potential (it’s very different from the other Ninja’s). Captain Soto and his crew and Dareth are funny characters, as well as the Serpentine and some Stone Warriors. It’s interesting that Soto was looking for the Island of Darkness, which was where the Overlord was located. Dareth may be a powerless guy, but he is useful when he had the Helmet of Shadows. It’s great that we get to see Lloyd mother named Misako, and Garmadon cares about her as well as Lloyd. She is a great ally to the Ninja. The Stone Army are very cool because they’re made of indestructible material and can’t be harmed by Lloyd’s own elemental power or the Serpentine’s powers. I felt bad that the Serpentine are imprisoned in the Stone Army’s underground tomb. It’s quite interesting that the Great Devourer’s venom can re-awaken the Stone Army and bring inanimate objects to life. I feel bad that Lloyd got accidentally enchanted by a magic tea to become a teenager. I hope he could somehow change back, though. It’s very cool that Dark Matter can turn people evil, and the same goes to the Overlord’s dragon form’s ability to breathe energy that can turn people evil. It’s very interesting to learn about the land of Ninjago’s history that involved the First Spinjitzu Master fighting the Overlord and the Stone Army and splitting the island into two pieces. It’s cool that the Island of Darkness was almost hidden under the water unless Garmadon can use his four arms to activate a switch that rose up the island from the water. It’s also cool and interesting that the Overlord possessed Garmadon like a ghost and turned him into a powerful reptilian monster, and then the Overlord turned it into his powerful original dragon-like form. It’s also interesting that we learn about some sea creatures, including the Starteeth and the Leviathan. It’s super-sweet that Zane’s creator, Dr. Julien, is revived and reunited with Zane. It’s interesting that the skeletons from the 2011 storyline are the ones responsible for some stuff that involved Dr. Julien. It’s great and cool that Dr. Julien was helping the Ninja and their allies with their journey in the Island of Darkness. Now, for the character development. Lloyd is quite concerned about his family. He saw his mom for the first time after a long time of not seeing her (I blame her for putting Lloyd in that evil school he was in). Lloyd was struggling on how he can fight his own father because his father was evil. I get that this was how he understood the prophecy, but I felt kind of bad for Lloyd. Good thing that the prophecy actually meant that he had to fight the Overlord. It’s also a good thing that Lloyd cured his dad into a good guy again. As for Jay, he was quite upset that Nya was kidnapped by the Stone Army because he loves her. I felt bad for both Jay and Nya. The season has 13 22-minute episodes. Anyway, what’s your favorite part in the season, and what things remind you of the season? For me, I like the battle between Lloyd and the Overlord at the end, the Ninja having new abilities to kick some Stone Army butt in the Temple of Light, and Zane and Dr. Julien reuniting the most. The things that remind me are: 1. Takauva vs. Makuta from Bionicle 2001-2010 2. The Stone Monster Army from Nexo Knights 3. Ekimu’s Temple of Light from Bionicle 2015-2016 4. Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
  23. Hi, guys! If anyone likes Ninjago's first TV season in 2012, which is about the Serpentine causing chaos and awakening the Great Devourer, let's celebrate the 5th anniversary of the season. I am not just talking about the season. I'm talking about the sets that the season is based on. So, yeah, happy 5th anniversary to the season! First, I'll tell the plot of the season: The season has 13 22-mintue episodes. It starts off with Ninja, who are Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane, encountering their archenemy, Lord Garmadon's son named Lloyd Garmadon, who is doing evil pranks on people, but the Ninja stop humiliate him. This causes Lloyd to get revenge on them, so he walks to a snowy environment, where he finds and opens a tomb. In there, he unleashes one of five tribes of evil snake-based people called the Serpentine, the Hypnobrai, to attack village where the Ninja stopped him earlier. The snakes hypnotize people in the village and stole candy for Lloyd. One of the Hypnobrai named Skales is not fond of the idea, but the tribe's general, Slithraa, tells Skales, who is his second-in-command, to obey him. This is because Slithraa was trying to hypnotize Lloyd earlier, but Lloyd accidentally used an ice wall to reflect Slithraa's hypnotism back to Slithraa, making him obedient to Lloyd. The Ninja defeat the tribe by stealing their staff to use the anti-venom in there to cure the hypnotized people. Later on, Lloyd has the tribe build a tree-house-like fortress for him, but the Ninja stop them by destroying the unfinished fortress. The tribe gets their staff back, makes Skales their new general, has Slithraa obey Skales, and kicks Lloyd out of their tomb, but Lloyd got a map to the other tribes before that. Lloyd then unleashes another tribe called the Fangpyre, who can turn anything into snakes by biting them like vampires, to cause more trouble, but the Ninja stop them. Later, Lloyd has the Fangpyre fight the Hypnobrai for revenge, but the tribes instead ally each other and want to overthrow Lloyd. After Lloyd escaped from them, he opens a tomb of another tribe called the Anacondrai, who are said to be most feared and powerful of the tribes. However, he discovers that all but one Anacondrai are killed because of hunger, as he sees the last of the Anacondrai named Pythor P. Chumsworth, who is a snake with a long neck who can turn invisible and was the tribe's general. Lloyd and Pythor team up to commit little crimes in a village. They then attacks a school that rejected Lloyd before the time where he unleashed the Hypnobrai. The Ninja go to stop them. Pythor betrays Lloyd by stealing the map from and lets him get captured by the Ninja. The Ninja's sensei, Wu, who is Lloyd's uncle and Lord Garmadon's younger brother, teaches him to reform. Pythor uses the map to find and unleash the last two tribes, which are the Constrictai, who can dig through ground and choke their victims, and the Venomari, who can make people hallucinate by spitting venom into their eyes. The Ninja learn that Pythor plans to unite the tribes to find blades called the Fangblades, which can unleash a snake-like monster called the Great Devourer that can cause destruction upon the land of Ninjago. A new hero called Samurai X shows up to help the Ninja fight the Serpentine, and this hero is actually Kai's sister, Nya, using this as a superhero-like identity. The Serpentine kidnap Lloyd, which makes Wu go find and have Lord Garmadon help him and the Ninja fight the Serpentine and rescue Lloyd. When Lord Garmadon was found in an alternate world, he has four arms. He never wanted Lloyd to be a villain like him, and it is revealed that when he was a kid, he was used to be good-hearted until the Great Devourer, as a young snake, bit him with a magic venom that turned him evil. Garmadon still has a good conscious, so he wants to save Lloyd, who he cares. Meanwhile, the Ninja learn to unlock their true potential to use their elemental powers by expressing their hearts meaningfully (Zane has ice powers, Jay lightning, Cole earth, and Kai fire). Along the way, Zane is revealed to be a robot that the Ninja called a Nindroid. After all of the Ninja unlocked their true potentials, the good guys discover that Lloyd is a legendary hero called the Green Ninja, who is destined to fight his father in the future, even though that the Ninja originally thought that one of them was going to become the Green Ninja. After the Serpentine found the Fangblades, the good guys steal the blades from them while Lloyd is sad that Garmadon left him. Later, Pythor steals back the blades and goes to the Serpentine's ancient city to unleash the Devourer, which is giant, powerful, and can eat anything to grow bigger. The Ninja, along with Nya, Lloyd, and their pet called the Ultra-Dragon, which is a combined form of their dragons, try to stop the Devourer from destroying a city called Ninjago City, but it is unstoppable. However, Garmadon is the only one to use all four magical weapons called the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu and the Devourer has a weak spot on its head, so the Ninja give Garmadon the Weapons and traps the monster, so Garmadon can hit its weak spot in order to defeat it. After he did so, the snake explodes into a tsunami of green goo that covered the city. Garmadon left with the Weapons, and Lloyd knows that he will face him, but the Ninja ensure that they will train him. To celebrate, let me ask you this: What are your fond memories about the season and the sets and/or what do you like about them? For me, well, they are very good. The first season shows the Ninja's character development more. It's cool and weird that Zane is a robot, which expands why he behaves weirdly. Jay wants to show Nya that he loves her (You can remember that moment from the pilot episodes in 2011). Cole needs to impress his dad when his dad expected him to be a dancer. Kai, well, is always hot-headed, but he learns that caring for people is a bigger priority than getting a special object. It's cool that Nya is a genius in mechanics, and becomes Samurai X and makes a mech to become her own hero. She like Iron Man from Marvel. She does try to help the boys out. The Ninja's NRG forms and them having elemental powers are awesome! They're like Ninjago' own Toa from Bionicle. It's interesting that Lloyd first starts off as the show's equivalent to Bowser Jr. from Mario video games when he is the son of an archenemy and wants to be like him, but he becomes more like Luke Skywalker from Star Wars when he has to become a hero to defeat his father, even though that he doesn't like this. I feel bad that Lloyd was captured by the Serpentine, being left out, and the Serpentine betraying. He was quite unlucky. But, I'm glad that he reformed and is saved by the Ninja and Garmadon. Sensei Wu is a good character, and he is cool when he can use a magic tea to travel between worlds. He feels bad that the Great Devourer turned his brother evil long ago. That's quite interesting. The Serpentine are very cool and funny. Pythor and Skales are great as villains because they are great at planning. It's interesting that each Serpentine tribe has ranks that go, from lowest to highest, from Scouts to Soldiers, then Warriors, then Generals, has unique powers and other abilities, and is based on a kind of snake. The Generals look epic because of snake tails and staffs. Good thing that there are anti-venom in the staffs that can undo the effects of the serpentine's powers. Garmadon is a cool character, as he has four arms and can hold all four Golden Weapons without getting destroyed by them (Samukai was the victim). He is a good and interesting character because he was used to be a good-hearted human who got bitten by the Great Devourer, which turned him into an evil villain. However, Garmadon still has a good conscious, so he cares about his son and doesn't want him to be evil, so he agrees to help the Ninja save Lloyd from the Serpentine during the time. Sadly, Lloyd feels bad that Garmadon left him, and Garmadon doesn't want to fight Lloyd when he becomes the Green Ninja, either. Speaking of the Green Ninja, it's cool that there's a legendary fifth Ninja, which is Lloyd. It's neat to see the skeletons from the 2011 storyline again, as Garmadon gets them to help him fight the Serpentine. The Great Devourer is very cool because it can eat stuff to become bigger and stronger. The Ultra-Dragon is awesome because it is a combination of the Ninja's four dragons. It's super-cool that the Golden Weapons can transform into vehicles that the Ninja can drive. I feel bad that the Hypnobrai The toys for the season are very cool. I like the new Spinjitzu spinners, new weapon packs, the Fangpyre vehicles, the Ninja's new vehicles, the Samurai Mech, the Ultra-Dragon, and the Great Devourer. The snake-like designs on the Serpentine vehicles look amazing. Sadly, there's no spinner or pack for Snike, who is a Constrictai Scout. When I heard that there two cancelled sets, which are the Serpentine Train and Lloyd's tree house fortress, I feel sad about them. IT would be cool if they are actually released as sets. The Ultra-Dragon could've have the colors of the dragons that it is made of. The Ninja's vehicles are awesome, and I like the Ultra-Sonic Raider the best! The Devourer looks menacing. The Fangblades look cool. So guys, what are your fond memories of the storyline, what do you like about it, what's your favorite 2012 set, favorite character(s) in the storyline, favorite moment in the storyline, what things remind you of the storyline, and/or how would you celebrate it? For me, well, my favorite characters are Cole, Lloyd, Jay, Zane, Nya, Pythor, Lord Garmadon, and Skales, and my favorite sets are Cole's vehicle, the Fangpyre Truck, the Rattlecopter, Destiny's Bounty, the Samurai Mech, the Ultra-Sonic Raider, and Epic Dragon Battle. The things that remind me are: 1. The Avengers movie in 2012. 2. That snake guy from Ben 10: Alien Force and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien 3. The Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man movie in 2012. 4. Iron Man from Marvel (Nya) 5. Karai's snake form from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2012 6. The Toa from Bionicle (The Ninja) 7. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader's relationship from Star Wars (Lloyd and his dad) 8. Mark Surge and Voltix from Hero Factory (Jay) 9. Electro from Marvel and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 (Jay) 10. That evil snake guy name Lyric from Sonic Boom video games in 2014. 11. The Midgard Serpent from Marvel 12. Snake-based villains from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes 13. Jafar from Disney's Aladdin movie in 1992. 14. That snake-like Constructicon from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in 2009 15. That giant and drilling snake-like creature from Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011 16. The nagas from The Secret Saturdays. 17. That evil cobra from Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesome-ness. 18. Hex's snake form from Ben 10 in 2016 or 2017. 19. Cobrax from Mixels. 20. Bowser and Bowser Jr. from Mario (Lord Garmadon and Lloyd Garmadon) 21. Hero Factory’s 2012 storyline - villains breaking out to cause chaos (the Serpentine)
  24. Hi, guys! When I look Four big Lego themes, Bionicle, Hero Factory, Ninjago, and Nexo Knights, I see some interesting similarities between them: 1. Their stories all have groups of heroes who have rookies that take spotlights. 2. They involve elements, which are fire, electricity, and earth. 3. They involve technology and abnormal-looking vehicles. 4. All of themes’ stories are on the similar levels of character development, how they’re constructed, and humor. 5. They all have dragons. These may be too common if you think so, there’s another interesting thing: You see, Bionicle’s characters are constraction figures and involved with elemental powers. Hero Factory’s characters also are constraction figures, but they are less involved with elemental powers and have more advanced technology than Bionicle’s. Ninjago’s characters are minifigures and involved with elemental powers. Nexo Knights’ characters also are minifigures, but they are less involved with elemental powers and have more advanced technology than Ninjago’s. So, when I look at these qualities, I would say that Hero Factory is Bionicle’s technology counterpart, Ninjago is Bionicle’s minifigure counterpart, and Nexo Knights is Ninjago’s technology counterpart and Hero Factory’s minifigure counterpart. You see, it’s like a square. I’m not sure about Hero-Factory-and-Ninjago and Bionicle-and-Nexo-Knights counterpart comparisons, but they share some more common stuff. Of course, Legends of Chima is sort of like them, but these themes are more developed than Legends of Chima. Plus, Legends of Chima is a part of Ninjago’s story, anyway. So, what do you guys think of the comparisons? Interesting, huh?
  25. Hi, guys! If anyone likes Ninjago's first TV season in 2012, which is about the Serpentine causing chaos and awakening the Great Devourer, let's celebrate the 5th anniversary of the season. EDIT #2: On second thought, since no one is replying for a long time, I decided to post the topic on the Ninjago section instead.
