First off, my apologies for the long title. I couldn't come up with anything shorter that was adequately descriptive. Anyways, some backstory on this: Nearly six months ago, perhaps more, I had come across a meme regarding somebody who had the entire Bee Movie script printed onto a tee shirt. It was a neat, albeit rather dumb idea, only really done with little effort because they could. From this I dawned upon the idea; what if I transcribed Legacy of Evil, and made an image of Zaktan OUT OF THE TEXT. The result is as follows, after so much work, (and plenty of assistance from fellow coworkers like my dear friend -Whiplash-, Ranaki Pakewa, and JrMasterModelBuilder) what I believe to be a wonderfully minimalistic approach to such a vastly complicated concept, that perfectly encapsulates everything about Zaktan, right down to the text itself being reminiscent of the mass of Protodites that make up his form. As usual, let your thoughts be known below. And to answer the potential question right away: No. I am not going to do a Bee Movie version. So don't bother asking. xD

"Toa. You are an anachronism -- pure and noble heroes, still striving for right in a universe of chaos, unwilling to admit that your day is long over." - Zaktan, BIONICLE Legends 1: Island of Doom [ http://i.imgur.com/rHpXJJC.jpg ] Entry Pic Gallery Zaktan merited more focus in the plot of G1 BIONICLE; like, I think he should have been a major player in the Mahri Nui and Karda Nui plots. His position is engaging and interesting, since most other antagonists in the setting are smug supervillains. I like a villain that works about as hard as (if not harder than) the heroes. Here's to seeing him again in G2, sometime! Perhaps in search for the Mask of Ultimate Power. Must say, dark green and sand green CCBS parts are not easy to come by. I was tempted to hunt down some two-year-old Legend of Chima sets for the dark green armor plates, but I wouldn't get them before the contest deadline anyways. I also thought about using Ben 10 claw hands, which were rather fitting. But the dude needed some more dark green and the ability to hold his signature three-blade scissor and zamor launcher. Hope you guys like it! Edit: Image linked; please keep posted images in BBC to 640x640 px and 100 kB. -Wind-

Welcome to the sixth installment of my new series of Bionicle flash fics, The Biological Chronicle. If you want to read the other stories in this series, you can find links to them in my signature at the end of this post. If you don't know what this is, allow me to quote from the first fic's introduction: With that out of the way, enjoy: 2006 “T-Toa Zaktan?” Zaktan, standing on a ridge that allowed him to overlook the construction of the Piraka Stronghold, glanced to his left. A Le-Matoran armed with shredder claws was standing there, obviously trembling despite his just as obvious efforts to seem natural. Zaktan vaguely recalled the Matoran as the first villager he had met when he first arrived on Voya Nui. What was his name? Piruk, maybe? “Yes, villager?” said Zaktan, using his friendliest voice (or voices, as the case was). The Le-Matoran seemed to shrink under Zaktan's gaze. Nonetheless, he managed to say, “I just came to, um, to, well, uh—“ “Spit it out,” Zaktan snapped. He caught himself, remembering that Toa were supposed to be kind to Matoran, and then said, again straining to be friendly, “What are you trying to tell me, villager? Has something happened that requires my attention?” The Le-Matoran looked down at his feet, digging his toe into the dirt. “It's just . . . well, one of the workers on Mount Valmai's slopes was . . . well, he was killed in a lava flow just a few hours ago. Balta sent me to tell you that.” The Le-Matoran looked up at Zaktan when he finished, as if expecting the Piraka to say something. It took Zaktan a moment to remember that Matoran dying was supposed to be a bad thing and that therefore he should console the Le-Matoran. The idea sickened him to his core, but the Pirakas' relationship with the Voya Nuians was already getting rocky and he could not afford to make them more suspicious. So Zaktan bent down, putting one hand on the Le-Matoran's shoulder. The villager cringed at the touch, most likely not used to the feel of Zaktan's hand. Still, Zaktan tried to give off an aura of concern, the kind he thought a Toa would show in this situation, and so looked the Le-Matoran in the eyes. “I am very sorry to hear about that,” said Zaktan, forcing every word out of his mouth. “What was his name?” “I . . . I don't know,” said the Le-Matoran, who much to Zaktan's frustration was still trembling. “I didn't know him very well.” Zaktan sighed. “Well, I'm sure his soul will join with the Great Spirit in the next life. He was probably a fine worker and I am sure his friends will remember him always.” “Some of his friends want to hold a funeral for him,” said the Le-Matoran. “Even though his body wasn't—“ “No,” said Zaktan, shaking his head. “What?” Realizing how un-Toa-like that sounded, Zaktan said in a gentler voice, “I mean, I understand what it feels like to lose a friend, but perhaps, instead of a funeral, it would be better for everyone to work a little harder. Surely he would have liked that better than everyone interrupting their normal work schedule just to mourn his death, wouldn't you say?” The Le-Matoran scratched the back of his head. “Uh, I don't know—“ “And without a body, what is there to bury?” said Zaktan as he straightened up. “Work away your sorrows, I say. It is what we Toa do whenever we lose a comrade, after all.” The Le-Matoran nodded, though whether because of fear or because he agreed, Zaktan couldn't tell. “Yes, Toa Zaktan. I'll g-go tell the others to get back to work.” The Le-Matoran scrambled away while Zaktan returned his attention to the builders of the Stronghold. He wasn't sure how much longer he could keep up this charade, though once the villagers finished their work here, he knew it would not be long before he and the other Piraka could show their true colors. - Comments, criticism, questions, etc. are all welcome . -TNTOS-

When the Piraka were revealed in the Ignition arc, they each had three power types, and each had at least one of each type of power. 1. Vision power(s) 2. Elemental power 3. Miscellaneous other ability For example, Hakann had heat vision, fire, and mental blasts; Thok had spellbinder vision, ice, and animation powers. Zaktan, though, is an oddity. His powers were shown to be laser vision, air, and the ability to split his body into millions of protodites. This makes sense, except that the power to split his body was apparently given to Zaktan by TSO's disintegration beams. So what power did Zaktan have before this incident? Another thing- Zaktan is supposedly killed by Teridax, but manages to survive and goes to Zakaz. This leads me to the main part of my theory, Zaktan's actual power. My theory: Zaktan's true third power is the ability to not die. Whatever happens to him, he cannot be killed. TSO's eyebeams disintegrate, which means they break the target down on a molecular level (or something like that), and when Zaktan is hit with the beams, he does disintegrate... but survives in a protodite form. When he becomes a sea snake (because sea snaaakes!) and his water tank is destroyed by Teridax, Zaktan clearly should have died again. (We even thought he might've died, until it was confirmed otherwise outside of the story that the green cloud was indeed Zaktan.) However, he manages to survive against the odds. The one problem, as far as I can tell... For this reason it's likely that my theory is incorrect... unless of course Greg meant that it's Zaktan's nature to be unkillable. I think that Spiriah (despite being a screw-up) would've been smart enough not to give a Skakdi the power of immortality, and it's quite possible that Zaktan being a mutant just caused whatever Spiriah did to him to mess up and result in his inability to die. That all said, I'd still like to propose this despite that one quote. What do you think? Plausible? No? Tear it to shreds if you feel so inclined.

While reading at my local library the other day, I cam across an error in BIONICLE Legends 4: Legacy of Evil. It can be seen here (click the thumbnail for a bigger version). In the passage shown, Zaktan destroys he information he found on Teridax's plan using his impact vision. Impact vision? That was Vezok's power, not Zaktan's (he had laser vision). I have a couple of questions about this. First, is this a known error (i.e. has someone else spotted it and asked Greg about it before), and second, if it is known, what did he say? I've done a quick google search, and it didn't turn up anything about this error. Was it a confusion about which Piraka had which powers that nobody at LEGO caught before publishing (and maybe it was fixed in later versions?), or could it have been written before the Pirakas' powers were finalised, and then not changed once they were? Do we have any idea which one?

I've posted this once before but not on BZP. We know that Zaktan didn't get killed when The Shadowed One blasted him with his eyebeams. In a recent Ask Greg, he said that was probably because he was mutated. We also that Zaktan was a slave at a protodermis mine before he was a Dark Hunter, and protodermis can transform a person. My theory is this: What if, on the day that TSO came to that mine, there was a freak accident at the mine, and Zaktan got hit with protodermis? The protodermis would have changed his molecular level rather than his armor (I don't know if protodermis could do this, but I see no reason why it couldn't). This would explain why TSO chose Zaktan to join the Dark Hunters, because TSO knows that protodermis would make him stronger and a valuable hunter. How does the fanbase feel about this theory? Do you agree with it?

Who do you think died just for shock, pointlessness or another reason?I felt that Zaktan, Telluris and Carapar all died just to show how super serious the villain was, yo for nothing but shock value. That's just me, there could be something about it I'm not seeing. What do you think?

So this Zaktan Revamp is a few weeks old at this point. He was built for a contest but then I found out that due to my vacation coming up I would be unable to participate so here he is as a one day, rather minimalist build. The torso only looks good from the front, you can't see it in the back picture because the spine covers it up but his back is a complete mess. I'm very limited in dark green as I discovered and it probably would have been smarter to do Reidak or Vezok, but I don't like those color schemes as much. Here's a picture for you to admire:And here are some more:FrontBackSideGallery (of four pictures)Should you choose to express your thoughts on this MOC, please make your post worth reading.Edit: Image thumbnailed due to file size; please keep posted images in BBC to 100 kB.-Wind-Thanks, it's been a long time since I posted pictures and I forgot about that rule.

One of the purposes of writing this is to explain the past of the Skakdi with three in particular; Dronik; intelligent and scheming, but insane with a delight in seeing others in pain. Zaktan; the ruthless future self-appointed leader of the Piraka. Lupike; the "muscle" of the group and the most skilled in combat of the three. The story begins in the time before Makuta Spiriah's experiments on the Skakdi began. Together they are hired to steal important research from the Brotherhood regarding the Skakdi species. With the research information, the Skakdi species can be altered to become a powerful fighting force. While the research exists, the job itself is a set-up by the Dark Hunters to capture the three Skakdi for the reward placed on them by the Brotherhood. Should they succeed, the Dark Hunters gain important information and the reward for the Skakdi's capture. Should they fail; the Dark Hunters merely gain the reward. However, the three succeed in stealing the research, but Dronik, not wanting to split the profits, betrays Zaktan and Lupike. Lupike is believed to be dead and Dronik and Zaktan are captured, but before his capture, Dronik destroys the research. The Dark Hunters receive the reward placed on the Skakdi. Dronik is sent to Makuta Sinosis for the extraction of any information the Skakdi might remember from the research. Finding nothing and intruiged by the Skakdi's love for inflicting pain on others, Makuta Sinosis teaches Dronik the ways of torture and interrogation then sells him to the Dark Hunters. Without the fundamental research, Spiriah's experiments on the Skakdi species fail and he is exiled. Zaktan is sent to work in a proto mine until he is later found and recruited by the Shadowed One. Lupike wakes to find himself on the shores of Kamas Nui with a badly fragmented memory and no recollection of how he got there. The Skakdi is found by the local Matoran and amazingly enough, becomes a leading figure on the island, forming an impressive Matoran military. Just after the Great Cataclysm and the start of the Brotherhood/ Dark Hunter, reports of the death of Makuta Sinosis reach the Dark Hunters and a team of Dark Hunters is sent to investigate. Dronik, having been trained by the Makuta, is made a part of the team. After several confrontations with the island's new Toa team, Dronik is captured and he and Lupike meet. The encounter restores Lupike's memories and Dronik reveals the knowledge that he, Lupike, and Zaktan were actually the first and only Skakdi to be altered through the process described by the research they had stolen so many years ago. He continues to relate how they had killed the Makuta who mutated them and escaped, leaving only the research information as any clue to the Makuta's experiments. The Brotherhood placed a bounty on the three Skakdi for killing a Makuta without realizing their value. Matuka Sinosis having faked his death and infiltrated the Matoran society, overhears Dronik's story and reveals himself to capture the two Skakdi and reverse-engineer the mutation process. However, through the combined forces of the Toa Kamas and the Dark Hunter team, the Makuta is stopped and killed. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this, especially towards any possible conflicts with the canon story. Thanks!

Recently, I was looking at another topic on this here forum ( ), which dealt with deceased Matoran. A lot of that debate deals in Matoran scavenging parts off their dead, which would apply if the Matoran Universe is a closed circle of matter and energy. If that were the case, I would imagine that said parts would have to be reused or recycled in some manner. But there is actually evidence to the contrary. I propose that the Matoran Universe is NOT a closed circle of matter and energy. There is actually energy inputs into this system. These inputs come in the form of protodermis, found on the planets that Mata Nui was visiting. These planetary deposits would, theoretically speaking, been placed there by the Great Beings prior to Mata Nui's departure of Spherus Magna. Why would the robot need inputs? The second law of thermodynamics seems to apply in Bionicle, seeing as the Matoran have to accept energy inputs. And the robot has to have heating systems, seeing as it is traveling through space with living beings inside it. While the robot does have an extermely thick hull to prevent such energy loss, we are talking about the difference between the temperature suitable for life and that of space, which is freezing cold (understatement). Multiplied by the robot's rather large surface area, this would translate to a small, if signifigant, amount of energy being lost over time. Greg has confirmed the existance of heating and ventilation systems, which would require energy to use, energy that might not be easily reabsorbed. (Not to mention the system of artificial gravity)I could also argue that the MU robot would likely need some sort of system to move when the robot is in space (to change direction). This would likely involve projecting energy into space. The Red Star might help with this process, but even it has to get its energy from somewhere ( who knows where). I think there was a reference to Makuta, while in command of the MU, using "rockets" to get from Aqua Magna to Bara Magna, but that could simply be a reference to him using the Red Star, so I'm not going to go overboard with that. The entropy by its own is likely good enough reason. Also, it would not be too far out of line for the Great Beings to try to influence where their creation should go; they might have given him a certain amount of free reign, but they wouldn't have wanted the MU to run amok like their other creations ( which would be a major league disaster that could destroy multiple planets; Makuta=Exhibit A). It would also conveniently explain why the GBs did not interfere major league (alternate GBs in the other universe are an exception here) in the big battle between the two giant robots, because even if Makuta won, he would be unable to do universe wrecking damage because his energy would run down. But, logically speaking, this energy loss would be rather small, especially when Mata Nui was on a planet (optimum temprature and air already there, especially on Aqua Magna), which meant that Makuta had enough energy to power up the robot when he did. (Passage between Mata Nui and Metru Nui= energy saving ventilation shafts?) Logically, energy reactors in the MU (fuel) would be protodermis, since everything in the MU (last I checked) is made of protodermis. And the sophisticated sensors of the MU would likely pick up such deposits. ***Enter Zaktan, and that quote from Legacy of Evil. What confuses me is to why proto mining would be hazerdous; or even a death sentence in the MU. If proto is composing everything in the MU, then why is mining hazerdous? Inside the MU, I would imagine it as a strip mining operation to harvest the proto that's right beneath your feet. There were caves in Po-Metru; but those were made by Matoran. This "real proto mining" was deemed too hazerdous for Matoran, so much that they hired ill-tempered people like Zaktan to do it. The term "mining" refers to the extraction of one mineral from another; the only other time we see the term used is in Mata Nui, which is not in the MU. I propose that a certain number of individuals, like Zaktan and other Skakdi, who were considered expendable, were sent outside the MU when the robot landed on a planet with a protodermis deposit on it, which would occur, albeit infrequently. This would be "mined" from the surrounding areas. Said deposits would be placed underground in the first place to avoid the detection of the native inhabitants, but they might still have an interest in the mining operation. Said mining would likely occur in tunnel-mining fashion in order to quickly get what the robot needed with a minimum of attention (strip mines are pretty obvious!) The beings who did this mining would likely have to shield themselves from the natives, not to mention the possible tunnel collapse...hence the powerful beings and the danger involved. Even more important, and dangerous, would be the knowledge involved; possible exposure to aliens and learning that they are invaders; carrying of proto to fuel chambers, and just plain flat knowing that they move in and out of a universe that moves would be knowledge that nobody wants in the wrong hands. The easiest way to prevent that knowledge from being spread? Kill them all. Somehow, Zaktan slipped through the crack. Or maybe he was reserved enough, possibly horrified enough that he wouldn't talk; they just shoved a death threat in his face and shoved him on his way. (That, and I think TSO rescued him for some reason - there's evidence that some of the other Piraka, likely Reidak and Avak, were involved or at least familiar) Maybe Zaktan didn't fully get it until he read Makuta's plan on the walls of the fortress. There was obviously joy in that moment; I think the mystery behind the horrors he had seen haunted him for years, and its resolution changed him from the retisent and creepy to the proud; he knew something everyone else did not, and that quickly went to his head. So go and like Mata Nui examine my theory, and consider the holes bigger than Zaktan that art present there.
