Space facts are the best kind of facts .

A black hole with the same mass and gravity as Earth would be under 2 inches across.

Every second the sun converts 700 million tons of hydrogen into helium.

Corot 7-B is an exoplanet that rains rocks. At 2000 degrees, the silicon, iron+titanium vaporizes, cools down and rains.

There is also an exoplanet 4000 light years away (called PSR J1719-1438 A )with a surface made of diamond.

Maybe I could afford the platinum mask with that planet. :D

Space facts? I got a few.

Black holes actually shine. "Virtual particles" (particles that constantly pop in and out of existence) are created at the event horizon, and before the two counterparts can destroy each other, the black hole consumes one while the other escapes. This is called Hawking Radiation, and the smaller the black hole is, the more it emits.

"Spaghettification" Is the process in which a black hole, or other massive body, uses tidal forces to stretch out anything that comes near it. It can also be called the "noodle effect."

The sun is powered by quantum tunneling. Classically, the sun should not have the energy it takes to fuse two atoms together. However, every now and then, an atom randomly shows up in a place it shouldn't be able to get to, allowing it to fuse. Thank quantum mechanics for the stars!

Hyper velocity stars are stars shooting at 2 million miles per hour through space.

According to some models of cosmology, there an infinite number of universes.

Over 500 planets have been found that aren't part of a solar system.

There is a planet called Wasp-12B that only has a 1 day orbit around it's parent star. It is so close that matter is burned off the planet by the star.

Even though we have a very small understanding of dark matter and dark energy, we know that they make up the majority of out universe. The part of our universe made of the matter and energy we know well (atoms, light, etc.) only contributes to 5% of all the matter and energy in the universe.

The leading contender for what dark matter is made of is the "WIMP", or "weakly interacting massive particle".

While the multiverse theory states that there are an infinite number of universes, the most widely accepted theory, supersymmetry, does not. The multiverse theory claims that the world is chaotic by nature, and supersymmetry claims that it is orderly by nature.

If the multiverse theory is true, there is a parallel universe where it isn't.

Food for thought.

Not true. The only thing that would vary from universe to universe are constants such as the cosmological constant. These universes exist collectively in one large "multiverse," hence the name.

so is there a universe where I'm Batman?

If the multiverse theory is correct, then yes. The multiverse theory says that anything that can happen, does happen. But the majority of the multiverse would just be chaotic and lethal gibberish.

Jenny, the Doctor's "daughter" is David Tennant's actual wife

Laser is a acronym for 'Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation

Hogwarts is located somewhere in Scotland

Grumpy Cat's real name is Tardar Sauce

You can shoot an Enderman with a bow and arrow if it's far enough away

The Enderman sounds are reversed, down-pitched words like "here" "Hiya" and "Forever"

Snow Golems have their original face behind their pumpkin.

Time travel IS possible.

Richard Wagner, despite composing multiple groundbreaking operas in the late Romantic era and thus setting the stage for the avant-garde classical music of the early twentieth century, was a real jerk. He was so awful that even Nietzsche had a problem with him. When Friedrich Nietzsche -- the man who believed that if you were in a position to dominate and assert your will over others, you had not only the right, but the obligation, to do so -- thinks you've gone too far. you know you've gone too far.

Whenua and Nuju are the only turaga that don't have lines in MoL

Matau has no lines in MoL either

Yes, but based on facts given in the series and other official media, it hints that Hogwarts is located in Scotland

At the end of Halo CE, when chief removes his helmet, there is actually a SECOND helmet beneath it.

This is similar to the part in Mass Effect 3 in which Tali removes her mask. There is another mask underneath it.

The use of the phrase "mad as a hatter" to describe someone as being insane comes from the use of mercury in the making of felt hats in the 18th and 19th centuries. People who worked in hat factories were often exposed to mercury, and over time, they would develop a case of mercury poisoning. This caused dementia (called mad hatter's disease or mad hatter's syndrome).

NASA's spacesuit costs about $12 million to make. Without one you would die within 2 minutes exposed to the vacuum of space.

NASA has also packed duck tape on every shuttle mission since 1981.

In 4 billion years the Milky Way galaxy will collide with the Andromeda galaxy. At this same time, the Sun will have entered the red giant phase of it's life, destroying the inner solar system.

Light warps around heavy objects. During a solar eclipse, you can actually see the stars behind the Sun.

Because of Einstein’s theory of general relativity, time moves slower for things near heavy objects. This means that the clocks inside GPS satellites tick slightly faster than clocks do here on Earth.

Rods, a type of photoreceptor in your eyes, work well in low light but do not respond to color. This is why we can only see in black and white when we are in the dark.

There is an unbarred spiral galaxy 28 million light-years away named the Sombrero Galaxy.

Dark matter is an invisible yet massive form of matter that holds galaxies together. What dark matter exactly is, however, is unknown.

Nothing can travel through space faster than the speed of light. However, space itself can stretch and expand with no set speed limit.

IC-1101 is an elliptical galaxy. It is the largest galaxy known.

It would take us about 19,000 years with our current tech to reach Alpha Centauri, about 4.37 light years away.

To balance out the space facts:

Whales have a tube of wax in their ear that can be used to study their exposure to stress over their lives.

If an object (eg. A bike) is left against a tree for long enough, the tree will absorb it.

U.S. currency has existed in thirteen denominations: $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50. $100, $500. $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, and $100,000.

The two-dollar bill is the only non-standard bill still in circulation.  It features Thomas Jefferson and has the painting "Declaration of Independence" on the back.

All denominations higher than a hundred are still legal tender, despite being removed from circulation.  Although, collectors are willing to pay twice their face value just get their hands on them.

Three non-presidents have appeared on dollar bills: Hamilton, Franklin, and Salmon P. Chase on the $10, $100, and $10,000 dollar bills respectively.

A popular piece of trivia used to be that they're four cars on the back of the ten-dollar bill; this was true until the bill was updated in the 90's.

There is a group, cipher, thingy called Cicada 3301. Every January, they release a new clue to a new puzzle for people to solve. Who sets it all up? For what purpose is it run? We don't know. Nobody has come forward as the mastermind behind it, and nobody knows if any of the ciphers have even been solved. Plus there's a non-disclosure thingy involved as well.

The fact that time goes faster when you're moving has been proven. Scientists synchronized two atomic clocks down to who-knows-how-many decimal points (it was a lot) and sent one up in an airplane, leaving the other in the airport. After an hour or two in the air, the one in the plane was a few whatevers of a second faster.

Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Whitney Houston didn't write most of their songs.

Swedish songwriter and producer, Max Martin has written, co-written, or produced songs for/with Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Kesha, Usher, the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync.  He's had nineteen Billboard Hot 100 number one hits; third only to Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

a related bit of information: since 2008, he's worked on many of these songs (including such hits as "So What", "Shake It Off", "DJ's Got Us Fallin' in Love", and numerous others) with another Swedish pop producer by the name of Shellback. before pursuing a career in pop songwriting and production, Shellback was better known as a vocalist in the Swedish melodic death metal scene, most notably with the band Blinded Colony.

Here's a fun fact: This is my first post in years.

Here's another fun fact: This place affected me in ways I'm still trying to understand years later.

Man, this place was special.

Okay, now for a real fact::

In the mid-90's (and possibly still to this day), Iceland had the highest number of people with personal computers.

Yet, they're so in touch with nature and are so down-to-earth. Maybe we could learn a thing or two.
