Angel Beat Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 (edited) Okay, so Maerin the Nord did some exploring, killed some Thalmor and that Orc deathseeker (and accidentally a courier that got in the way).Suddenly Maerin's follower Uthgerd the Unbroken betrays her and tries to kill her. She loses. So Maerin returns to Whiterun and everybody's reacting normally.Until she enters Dragonsreach, where she's attacked by everybody.I just don't know what went wrong...Edit: Maerin assaulted one of the servants and paid off the crime. All is well now and Irileth even gave her a bottle of ale, calling her a good friend. Archer Vonn Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Bethesda doesn't like the PS3Despite it being the most user friendly of the consoles, with a sleek and efficient engine, powerful hardware and a sturdy and reliable controller. This, coupled with free live, Sony's 'everything box' definitely may prove to be the underdog that came out on top. Thank you folks, that's my time!Even though Obsidian did. New Vegas on the PS3 was the least glitchy by far. Then what happened to Skyrim? Well, Kevin Butler said he liked the Courier more than the Lone Wanderer now Bethesda's all mad... Toa Levacius Zehvor Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Bethesda is great, but if you expect them to write a better story for a gameworld than its creator you have to be crazy. Except Twilight. Nobody can make that... wor...Stay away from me, fanfics!Heathfire looks to me like buying a house for 5$ so far. Unfortunately, my interest in building a house in Skyrim is very limited while Guild Wars 2 is rocking the universe. I'm willing to go for another Dawnguard (or larger!) sized DLC, but not a house.Besides, we already know it took a single week to make most of Hearthfire's content. -Toa Levacius Zehvor Quote "I disapprove of what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Evelyn Beatrice Hall (often attributed to Voltaire)
Archer Vonn Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I meant from a technical angle. Fallout 3 only changed the gameworld so much because the Brotherhood of Steel is cool and they wanted to attract new fans with a cool army of super soldiers with laser guns and power armour who fought super mutants. Core: Matoran of Chaos Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Aye, I'm slightly disappointed that Hearthfire is just a DLC that gives you more player housing, especially after Todd Howard said he wanted to create meatier DLC. I hope Hearthfire is just the first part of a back to back DLC release or just a hold over while they are working on a shivering Isles type expansion. I would have loved something like this in Fallout 3 as that was the last time I truly fell in love with a game world and felt immersed. I just don't get that same feeling with Skyrim and I can't say that in my travels I've found a spot and thought "I'd love to settle down and live here."The thing that will make or break Hearthfire for me though is whether or not I will get my skeleton butler with a chef's hat. Archer Vonn Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 New Vegas had two add ons on top of its four larger ones, the Courier's Stash and then the Gun Runner's Arsenal, that only added equipment into the game. Prediction: Hearthfire is in the same vein as those. Quote 3DS: 3711-9364-3152 PSN: AidecVoros
Katuko Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Adding an official skeleton race would be neat. They wouldn't even need to do much; just rig the skeleton model on a player skeleton (hehe) and stick a few non-hostile NPCs in an old tomb somewhere. It's already been done with mods (yeah yeah), so a playable skeleton would be nice. Or, as you say, a mansion with undead servants that doesn't fade away after X time or follow your every step all the time. Perfect for a Necromancer character or something. For that matter, I'd love to see Atronachs and Spriggans as proper NPCs. The ones you encounter in the wild are always hostile, and the ones you summon don't have anything special about them either apart from looking totally awesome. Being able to talk with one or at least interact with them in a way that is not simply "kill this stuff for me" could be very interesting. Perhaps a Giant with some speech too. If we can meet Hagravens, other creatures shouldn't be too far-fetched.Oh, and if I can have a dog for a pet, I want a wolf as well. Quote
Takatu Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I remember there being non-hostile spriggans in that one mage tower DLC in Oblivion (the name escapes me). At least I think so... I downloaded a moderator that added a LOT to it, but I'm pretty sure the spriggans were already there. Couldn't really interact with them, they just kinda wandered around the alchemy garden, but it was still nice. Of course I killed the first one on site because I thought it was gonna come after me, then felt pretty guilty when the others didn't react. :/Speaking of guilt, I did Boethiah's quest the other night (since I had to restart my character to get Dawnguard to work). Sacrificed Lydia. On my way to Knifepoint Ridge to kill Boethiah's former champion, the courier caught up with me at Half-Moon Mill and gave me a letter of inheritance from her. Didn't think much of it till I read the letter and it said how wonderful it was that Lydia had a true friend and how rare that was in a time and place that's so harsh and violent. And I intentionally killed her to gain the favor of a Daedric Lord and to get some armor. :|Of course I then proceeded to use Vampire's Seduction and feed on the courier. I'm all around not a great guy in Skyrim. Quote

You're a non-sentient undead that's bound to the will of a necromancer or other powerful dark forces. You wouldn't be able to speak to anyone. There's really not a way to justify how a skeleton could interact with people and not be killed. Maybe a lich or something, based closer to the Dragon Priest design, but then you would need to have things like illusory veils to hide your true form, and it would need to be unlocked at super high levels.Because we all know any of those Dragon Priests could thrash Harkon.-Toa Levacius Zehvor Quote "I disapprove of what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Evelyn Beatrice Hall (often attributed to Voltaire)

Wotz Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Please tell me you aren't naked on purpose :PIn other news, I was wondering around the wilderness, dwelling on how no Dragons ever do that awesome pick-up-dudes-and-drop-them-in-the-air move that Alduin did at the start and Odahviing did before I fought him, partly hoping that it wasn't just a scripted move. So later on I found myself up against a Giant with only my bare fist, a torch and some ragged trousers (don't ask), and suddenly this Nordic choir kicks in and I look up to see my saviour flying over (a random Ancient Dragon) and it swoops down, picks up the giant, and throws him a good fifty feet away. So with my measly arsenal I didn't wait around to be smited by the Dragon, I just ran for it until some guards turned up and got killed, I took their weapons and beat the tar out of the Dragon. The end....Okay, I lied, I got slaughtered, but I like to think that Giant thing still happened. Takatu Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I thought it was only scripted to those two events too, but someone (on here, I think) assured me it wasn't. May just be rare. I know I say a video of a dragon doing it to the player on a mountain somewhere, it's a finishing move they have like the one where they half eat someone before flinging them away. Guess you just have to get it to kill you before you get it grounded. Quote

Archer Vonn Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I was both upset and frustrated when that didn't happen the first time I used it. That was just an oversight I think. No reason they'd go to the trouble of making a crashing animation, and a shout that forces dragons to the ground, and not put the two together. Quote 3DS: 3711-9364-3152 PSN: AidecVoros

Mare Tranquillitatis Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I couldn't remember how Alduin is so annoying with his meteor shower... My orc character experienced it very soon. Quote
Takatu Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Maybe because the effect can wear off before you get the dragon's health low enough to keep him on the ground? Just an idea, I had to use it a few times on Alduin in that first fight because he flew off after the blue stuff went away. Quote
Mare Tranquillitatis Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Actually I beat him, but not before dying two or three times due to lack of potions and decent apparel. That's what annoyed me the most. And dual wielded Heal wasn't enough to recover full health, I have low magicka, as an Orc. But at last I defeated him. Quote
Takatu Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Did you pick up Dragonbane in Sky Haven Temple? Not the best weapon in the entire game, but pretty good against dragons. Quote

Mare Tranquillitatis Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Did you pick up Dragonbane in Sky Haven Temple? Not the best weapon in the entire game, but pretty good against dragons.Yes, but I usually rely on arrow-and-bow tacticts. And I don't like enchanted weapons at all: I can't stand to always have to refill them with Soul Gems, not counting that said gems weigh. Quote
Takatu Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 True, generally I don't like using enchanted weapons either for pretty much the same reason (and because I can't use the Elemental Fury shout on enchanted weapons). Dragonbane was the only one I ever used for a while, and I just kinda stashed it away when I didn't really need it anymore. Only enchanted weapon I use much is Auriel's Bow to blot out the sun when I need to. Quote
Mare Tranquillitatis Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 True story. Elemental Fury is pretty much useful, so why wasting it by using enchanted weapons?Uh, Auriel's Bow looks great, even though I don't have Dawnguard. As Auriel's Shield. Quote
Takatu Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Yeah, the enchantment on Auriel's Shield is pretty darn cool, not gonna lie. But as armor goes, it's on par with an ebony shield, so technically my daedric shield is better. Same with the bow, it's slightly weaker than ebony (but better than glass) so I only use it to blot out the sun when I need to. Or shoot undead archers that get on my nerves, the burning effective that's even better against undead makes it pretty satisfying. Quote

Takatu Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I'm not real big on magic in general, although I'm learning to use it and appreciate it more. I still prefer good old-fashion steel (or whatever my daedric sword is made of) when it comes to weapons, I usually enchant armor and rings and necklaces and whatnot.I think I'm in the minority on a few things, lol. I'm not really a fan of sneaking, for one, seems like a LOT of people love being sneaky. I admit one-shotting someone with a bow or crossbow from the shadows is pretty satisfying, but I just have more fun in direct combat. I'm a terrible thief, too, kinda blundered my way through the Thieves Guild questline. Quote
BenLuke Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Eh, you're cutting youself off from 99% of the tactical choices you can make in Skyrim if you avoid using magic, due to Skyrim's hand-to-hand combat system being pretty cruddy.Example: You come across a band of bandits (hah) while wondering through the province of Skyrim. If you're a fighter-y type dude, you run into to battle and press the right mouse/trigger to slash at them, occasionally blocking.Boring.A sneaky type guy, on the other hand, would just sneak pick them all off with a couple well aimed arrows.Effective, true, but still, that's not a lot of options. Boring. Now, a wizardly chap (Or, if you have any sort of sense, a spellswordish chap.) could summon weapons and/or use Illusion spells to do either of the first two things, or he could light them all on fire repeating from a distance with Firebolt, or he would summon some monster and have them beat the bandits to a pulp, or could use fury to have them off each other, or. . .See the contrast? Quote BZPRPG Profiles
Takatu Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I guess, I just don't like fighting at a distance unless I'm trying to take a dragon out of the air. Skyrim's melee combat isn't award-winning, but I still have some fun with it, especially seeing some of the finishers. Besides, Serana's quite the spellcaster and necromancer, so her magic stuff kinda balances out my sword-and-board tactics. She's saved me a couple times when I'm fighting a group of enemies by pegging a guy coming up behind me in the face with an ice spike. Quote
Archer Vonn Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 A sneaky type guy, on the other hand, would just sneak pick them all off with a couple well aimed arrows. That is where you are WRONGA sneaky type guy, brandishes his trusty dagger, disappears into the shadows only to reappear behind the back of the most isolated Bandit. The bandit's throat is promptly slit, and the thief then sinks back into the shadows to watch his friends and allies panic as a vicious, overwhelming presence begins to slink into their hearts as they know their minutes are numbered...Also first person sword fighting is crazy hard to do but Skyrim does it as well as it can be done. More exciting to be in the thick of battle, back to back with Farkas as a dozen draugr surround you, than be camping in the corner of the room killing everything in one hit. Mare Tranquillitatis Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Not. The Thalmor.I can't get used to Two Handed weapons. They're powerful and have nice finishing moves, yes, but how'd you consider Fireball and a Sword against a, let's say, Greatsword? Waaaaaaay better with the first.Magic is fine for me, until you don't get out of the Schools of Conjuration and Destruction. Others aren't worth considering, IMO. I barely use Heal and those Light spells. Better have a Dremora Lord or a Thrall covering you, side by side with a follower, while you spam Firebolts, Fireballs and other Destruction magic. Quote
Angel Beat Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Thing is, Maerin is a pure Warrior and she doesn't want to use magic.
