The tectonic implications... I don't know how to deal with that, and I don't really care. Whatever may be problematic is handwaved with the rest of other stuff for this game to work. But no, I actually didn't design the continents, the map I'm using is an altered one Ak gave me and Koth to use.

(BTW ak designed the continents in an attempt to have them all appear to be part of the central continent.)I'mma just throw this out there though that i don't think tectonics play as great a role in all of this as, say, naval warships would. But that's just me. I prefer not to think how how something got to be that way or what it could be like or do in the next year, and more on the now. Hence why the Ring of Fire, as far as I care, doesn't even cross my mind except to make fun on 2012 :PBut that's just me, so sue me.I'm one of those guys who will ignore it all either way :P

Thanks for answering. Though, I do have a few more random ones.

  • [*]Will temperature bands be the same? i.e. The central area of the map being the warmer equator and colder, icier seas farther north and south?[*]How historically accurate do you want our tech levels to be? Are we limited to what people did, or what they were capable of? To be specific, could I have large, floating platforms in the ocean, and smaller, zeppelin-rigged flying platforms in the sky? [*]Obviously, if different civilizations developed separate of each-other their languages would be completely different. Are we hand-waving that issue like in IL and SS?

Imagine, a room, awash in gasoline. And there are two implacable enemies in that room. One of them has nine-thousand matches. The other has seven-thousand matches. Each of them is concerned about who's ahead, who's stronger. - Carl Sagan

Thank you Veeci once more, this time for reminding me of the language issues. Again, responses in bold.

  • [*]Will temperature bands be the same? i.e. The central area of the map being the warmer equator and colder, icier seas farther north and south? Aye, this is how things will be. However there are different oceanic currents so there is possibilities of relatively warmer parts northward and/or southward.[*]How historically accurate do you want our tech levels to be? Are we limited to what people did, or what they were capable of? To be specific, could I have large, floating platforms in the ocean, and smaller, zeppelin-rigged flying platforms in the sky? If it can fit into the 80 era tech, then it goes. Zeppelin rigged flying platforms are go, as long as it's in reason, and ocean platforms will be unlocked later in the game when we advance to the nineties.[*]Obviously, if different civilizations developed separate of each-other their languages would be completely different. Are we hand-waving that issue like in IL and SS? There will be a one week period where your linguists figure out and translators become available. I'm going add that into the front post.

Little bit of sailing and yeah, you could get there pretty quick.Currently tweaking continents; I've tried to position all the little ones directly off of the main continent to give them an edge up on new colonization avenues.Alright, managed to get all the continents resized and moved about to fit in four to six squares. Its not pretty at the moment, but it'll work for now. Once I pretty it up, get the numbers, and add in terrain for the main continent -players get to choose their own terrain and climates, so long as it doesn't kill common sense-, the RPG should be just about ready to be packaged and shipped.

It's the management that's the problem

not a great attitude to have, just sayingi just wanna throw it out there that having a map that covers the world to its absolute perameters isn't a great idea. its a little restrictive. its best to say its just a section of a globe, just in case you end up being super popular for *insert selling point you have over starscape here* and you need more room for creative freedom. i'm not saying you haven't done that, but somebody mentioned a full globe earlier. in a sailing rpg i guess it has more merit, but still, hemispheres exist, which allows you to double your space if you ever find yourself in the position to need it. I seriously doubt I'll ever get more than twenty players. Even Starscape, including all of it's players be them active or not, only got like sixteen. Very close I'll admit but if I get twenty players, methinks the RPG would explode if much more joined in, and just be a plain nightmare to manage. I'm not looking to make another Reality here.If I have more than twenty people lining up to play I'll think about having the map only be a partial one, but honestly I'm just not seeing it.And to answer the inevitable; all sub-continents not claimed are still surrounded by storms, thus unclaimable by other nations.

Firstly, the story is monolithic and convoluted enough that even picking an exact timeframe is a difficult prospect. Secondly, the game would inevitably include spoilers for those who haven't/are reading, and would be very difficult for non-Homestuck fans to get into. What I'd prefer is an RPG that took several key elements of Homestuck and built upon them. If I were making it, it would of course take my favorite parts of the setting; the ideas of Sylladexes, Strife Specibi, and the more adventure-game inspired ideas. It'd probably be set in a real world city, and have a plot going on, but the players would be able to completely ignore it and engage in wayward mayhem/sloppy makeouts/silly antics.

Well, the map is almost ready for production -need to make a little nicer borders-, and I still gotta get the terrain map ready, but I've edited the main post so if anyone could reread it and give their thoughts on it now it'd be much appreciated.

The old jokes about that were really what brought me into the game. I have a special fondness for them. Yes, there'd be God Tiers, Specibi, and such, but besides the story and the constant symbolism and reflection, what is there to Homestuck?A story like that would require excessive, Slim-style railroading, while the symbolism and reflection can't be done in an RPG.

Well, you could put it in a similar world - another session, if you will.An RPG that focuses more on the sylladexes and specibi (and there's a reason Hussie didn't focus on them) than the story would be bloody boring.

My military's motto: "Here at Aquilonia we fire the whole missile. That's sixty percent more missile per missile."

That was your same motto in starscape, and look where that got you :)Just throwing this out there Xom, but if your nation in this is going to be essentially the same as in starscape... well you're gonna have more than a few people gunning for you.

Yeah, from the looks of this game, you might need to work on, oh, I don't know... diplomacy, stealth, spywork, all that jazz. So, basically, take the sneakiness of the Natsirt, the affability of the Alizarin, and the brick-stupid caution of the Diemawr, and you've got a winning nation.

I got that way because I didn't have enough missiles.I'm still not sure how I want my nation to be. Aquilonia is going to develop as it happens.

You got that way cause your only saving grace wasyour missiles.I'm sorry but Diplomatically, economically, and Technologically the Syrnix were set up die. Military was the only thing that saved them, and even that failed. You should at least have some idea of what you want your nation to do, lest you end up as the *gasp* jack of all trades nation.

You got that way because the Syrrinx were too bleedin' obsessed with missiles. They just had to show their missiles to their neighbors, and their neighbors said "Haha, how cute. Put the missiles down, take your flag down, you don't need to be your own government."

Technologically, the Syrrinx were even with their contemporaries. Diplomatically, I was a member of The Pact, and that seems to be a pretty good situation. Granted, I didn't expect a Pact member to stab me in the back, but meh. Also, the whole "Syrrinx don't see unprovoked attacks as bad" thing? Remember that? I figured I was screwing myself, but that's how Syrrinx are.

Technologically they were even with their counterparts militarily. Considering your Fleet of Large ships still died...Besides, Being a member of the pact meant nothing. At the very least, it meant you had allies, and at the most, it meant you had a set of allies who, due to treaties, wouldn't be dumb enough to attack. And the Syrnix not seeing unprovoked Attacks as bad wasn't the problem. The problem was thinking that their allies would take that and say "That's the way they are, oh well." That's what I mean as having set yourself up to fail diplomatically. You forgot there were civilizations that weren't the syrnix.Essentially, you acted as though (to use character based RPGs as an example) Your character shared the views and opinions of every other. Believe me anyone who does that in Strio will fall.

You weren't playing to lose either.Besides, In my own experience i can't roleplay a character that i can't think or act like. Hence why nearly every Character i create essentially embodies a part of my personality. Through that experience i see the Syrrnix's blatant disregard for the views of other races (and your own subsequent "outrage") as part of your own personality. Regardless, I don't want to spam this topic so I'm done"To alex and Koth - Do all of our weapons need profiles, or just out Exotic/Powered Up ones?

Yeah, only exotic stuff needs it's own profile.Loads of homework I forgot I needed to do this week finally caught up with me so Strio's work is being slowed, but we're in the final stretch; anyone who is kind enough to send in their profiles before hand will help us in finishing polishing the estimated IP costs, and basically all that needs to be done at this point is the terrain map for the main continent. Terrain maps for the sub-continents will come at a later date, when I'm too tired to think straight. Also, suggestions on the new province stage names would be helpful, as the ones we currently have are kinda silly. The reason I changed it from city stages to province stages was that there was a ton of people getting confused and thinking you could only have one city per province.

So we're now looking at Provincial Expansion rather than City Expansion... Interesting. So cities then are no longer part of the IP gain thing, but i'm going to assume that we still have capitals which, in the event of an invasion, would still need to be conquered, yes?And due to Koth's incessant bugging of yours truely, i'll have a literal ton of Military Profiles for you by the end of the week...Naval Superiority here I come >=D
