Toa Hovoki Zehvor
I recently bought some used Bionicle sets and their canisters smell quite smokey. Soap and water helped a little bit, but the smell definitely still lingers. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing and have any solutions / tips they could share? Thanks! Cheesy Mac n Cheese
Like a cigarette smell? If so, that’s a tough one that toy collectors have been struggling with for years. ToaDume
Drier sheets help. I buy a lot of things from thrift stores. Throwing drier sheets in a conister, box or bag, changing it twice a day for about a week usually gets rid of the cigarette in my experience. I've used it on toys, boardgames, clothes, etc.

Mushy the Mushroom
Maybe an ozone air purifier treatment could help? My dad was able to remove strong pet odors from a vehicle with a small portable one. He (evacuated and) ozone treated it for a few hours with the doors sealed, then let it air out until the fumes fully dissipated. Potentially dangerous, but it seemed effective. Here’s an article about it for smoke smell, if you’re curious: https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/home/its-tough-to-get-rid-of-cigarette-smells-but-an-ozone-treatment-can-do-it/2018/11/11/e0d64dfa-dedc-11e8-85df-7a6b4d25cfbb_story.html Quote Member-Made Emote Topic Original Mush art thanks to @Bambi
Fyndegil
Ozone sounds like something you should not try if you don't know what you're doing. Mukaukau Nuva
I've tried in vain to remove the smell from an old leather-bound book I inherited (my grandad was a heavy smoker). I've tried using baking soda, leaving it out in the air, etc. I can't tell if the smell is getting better or if I'm just getting used to it, lol Anyway, I'll ditto the dryer sheet suggestion, since that makes sense to me. Perhaps other scented, smelly things would help (like Febreze?). I'd be reticent to try any method that might permanently damage the canisters. Basic household stuff seems like the way to go for me; baking soda, dryer sheets, & maybe vinegar (if someone seconds that).

I successfully got the smoke smell out of a hand me down leather jacket using my method. That took longer than a week though. I sealed it in a trash bag air tight, and changed the dryer sheets twice a day. But the smell came out. Goodluck on the book!
