It's Done

Well, I just finished what will most likely be the last US BIONICLE book for the foreseeable future -- the movie novelization of BIONICLE: The Legend Reborn, based on my story and Sean Derek's excellent script. It went very quickly -- unlike past movies, there were no big plot holes I had to fill in the book, because Sean did such a thorough job. All I added was a few extra bits to explore what happens after the movie ends and a little more on Tuma to explain his motivations. (I still have two more parts to write for The Crossing, the BIONICLE story I am doing for my good friends at AMEET.)

I have started answering q's here again, though I don't know how much I will be online between now and March as I have to go out of town for a week for work and won't have access to a computer (I don't think). It sounds, though, that with the Toyfair news, you guys have plenty to talk about without me :)

Sooooooo ... I am off to have breakfast and then play some Marvel Ultimate Alliance until my wife wakes up :)

It's good to here your back, Greg. Though it is sad to here no books in 2010 :(, oh well, there will still be seriels, comics and random bits of facts you give out here for story. :)

You've never actually finished the game? Wow. The ending battle is multi-epic. And when you finish, you learn what became of the various decisions you made in the game. Not to mention unlockable characters like Ghost Rider and Silver Surfer are awesome.

Can't wait for the second game to come out this year.

Oh... I was glad to see a new blog entry, indicating Greg is back... but then... :( If scholastic stops making Bionicle books, could you get a new publisher? One that puts out more advertisements? Does AMEET publish books in the US?

2010 will definately be interesting with out the extra story from the books. obviously this early I can't tell how it will shape up, but I'm not super hopeful...

will story serials still be a component of the website in '10, or is that still unknown? I think that really benefit the line and provide a great resource for kids who might have liked the books but did not have access to them.

Great! Now you can answer my Vorox questions!

But really? That team in Ultimate Alliance is too normal. Mix it up a bit! And if you want to hear a really funny conversation on murder world, Get deadpool for the boss! hilarious! My personal favorite team would be Deadpool, Venom, Ghostrider, and Nightcrawler.

There are no plans to end the serials. I honestly don't know what impact the lack of books will have overall -- we have about 1.5 million people getting the comic every other month, just in the US alone, but only about 30,000 copies of the books were selling, so I am not sure the majority of the fanbase will notice they are gone (sad to say). I would really have liked to have at least one book for 2010, but it is what it is ... that's just the nature of publishing. One year, they want 16 books because they can't keep them in stock, and a few years later, there's just no interest at all.

To Jimmybob's point, it is certainly a logical question to ask (and I have asked it myself on a number of issues) -- at the same time, I don't think they saw a big boost in sales in 2005 or 2006. Personally, I think the 2009 movie is going to be a big shock to a lot of people -- I think it is miles better than the other ones and is going to do well enough that it is going to catch a lot of people associated with BIONICLE unprepared. Maybe I am just being optimistic, but that is what I would like to see happen.

If Scholastic does stop publishing BIONICLE books, would AMEET be able to take over? Or would the licensing still be there?

Yes, would Scholastic retain the license? When does their license expire in the US?

Greg's back! :happydance:

The movie novelization's complete, and it's awesome! :happydance:

But... no more books... :(

The emoticons show my state of mind on reading the latest entry. It's good that you're back, and I share your optimism for the new movie, but it'll be very interesting to see how 2010 shapes up with getting all our story info from bionicle.com and so on, and not necessarily in a positive way.

Nice to have you back, Greg. :) BIONICLE just wouldn't be BIONICLE without you, and even if we never see another book I'm happy to know that we'll still have you to write the comics and serials and continue helping to craft such amazing, inspiring storylines, especially with the new movie coming out (which looks excellent).

2) My usual MUA team is Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Wolverine, though I switch out the Cap slot now and then if I get bored. This is actually my third time playing it, but I have never gotten all the way through for one reason or another. Right now, I am doing Murderworld, which I think is one of the weaker levels overall.

I usually prefer Human Torch, Wolverine, Iron Man and Deadpool. :P

Ghost Rider (Nicholas Cage)

except the boss. My team is Deadpool, Colossus, Nick Fury or Luke Cage, and the Silver Surfer. On-topic: no more books? or none for next year?
