  1. Okay so you know the LEGO scorpions? Ok, so you take two of those, and you put an eyelet screw in each scorpion's stud hole. Then, through the eyelet screw, you hook an earring hook thingy. Ta-da! scorpion earrings. just a little idea i had because i've been ordering a bunch of scorpions off Bricklink on impulse. I haven't actually done it yet, though.

  2. I live by this rule: If it's said, someone WILL get offended. Know that and proceed accordingly.

  3. Specifically, with regards to the gender imbalance in modern media: I'd like to see a story where, during the writing process, the characters are completely fleshed out and developed. Genders would be assigned at random at the end by computer generation, so as to avoid any unwanted author-based prejudices. Obviously this example refers to a book, but the same process could go for anything. (I was going to say more, but I think this pretty much speaks for itself.)

  8. Philly Brick Fest is later this week! I don't think there will be too many BZPower members there, which makes me sad. Fortunately though, there will be a ton of your MOCs on display! I was getting worried because no one had been sending anything in, but last Friday I got three boxes (two of them were huge) and today I got four more! By my count, there will be over FORTY BZPower member MOCs on display (not including mine or any others that show up from other exhibitors). We should have a great Karda-Nui display, and BioniLUG will have a special display too. I'm really excited to put them all on display and show a new city what BZPower is capable of. You guys rock! And if you missed Philly Brick Fest, there's still time to send them to BrickFair New England, which is only a couple weeks from now. Check out this topic for more info. And please, if you send something - no styrofoam peanuts! I will take them out of your box and replace them with pain and suffering, which won't protect your MOCs nearly as well.

  9. An interesting idea, but many aspects of the story would have to be crafted to provide some degree of separation from the real world or vagueness. In a story set in the modern day, with real world influences on gender expression, not all characters will have their gender interchangeable. A lesbian in the deep south is going to be affected by her setting in a far different way than a straight man in New York. So unless you're writing a story set in an ideal world where sexism and homophobia are nonexistent, you'll have to purposely write your story in such a way in which all the characters have interchangeable backgrounds. That, or you randomize the genders earlier in the writing process, so that you're still free to take your randomized characters and adjust them for how their gender or sexuality (and how others perceive it) has shaped them over the course of their lives. Don't get me wrong; I'm all for greater diversity and representation in media. At the same time, I think that gender and sexuality are in many cases inseparable from good, realistic characters, especially for minorities who are subjected to real prejudices and stigmas that can affect how they perceive and respond to the world.

  10. i swear if i wasn't too scared to have my ears pierced, there would be 10+ million different little things i own turned into earrings (and i'd be the #1 buyer of clikits that day forward) and i would blame this entry for making me realize little plastic toys can be turned into jewelry.

  11. Any small eyescrew you get from picture hanging kits should be 1/16" (1.5875mm), the perfect size for this as the ID of a hollow stud is 2mm. I would recommend predrilling or premarking the hole first though.
