  5. I've noticed a tendency among younger members of my generation to treat "Fandoms" as unified entities with a moral character. It comes from a natural instinct to identify with a community which unfortunately transforms into a desire to devote part of yourself to a higher power comprised of a system of parts (people) that, in exchange, gives you a feeling of belonging, validity and purpose. Unfortunately, by merging yourself and your self worth into this egregore, you can easily experience feelings of rejection, powerlessness, and alienation. I have absolutely no desire to be a part of this. I am an individual and an artist, I claim the power of my attention, speech and production. The people who have fond feelings for the thing I also enjoy are separate from the thing, and from me. I'd wager the word Fandom has never parted my lips except in response to another person using the term to explain why they have been hurt.

  8. I have been a Bionicle fan since 2009(i knew about the franchise since 2006, but i was too young to care, it was only around the mistika/glatorian wave that i actually joined the fandom and became a fan) and i have been in the fandom since late 2009-2010 and i have followed every single Bionicle video, forum, subreddit for almost 2 decades, and i never saw toxicity(and when i saw it, it was heavily despised and denounced by the vast majority of the fandom) and i have never been attacked by other Bionicle fans, until yesterday. I want to clarify that i still think that the Bionicle fandom is one of, if not, the best fandom on the internet, i would go as far as to say it's the only non-toxic fandom i've ever been into, 17 years without toxicity(be it attacks against me or toxicity being normalized) is insane, there's no toxic negativity or toxic positivity, unlike most fandoms who have either of those or sometimes both of those at the same time, it's a great fandom and i truly believe over 95-98% of Bionicle fans, both IRL and online are great people, this fanbase is also extremelly inclusive towards neurodivergent individuals too(i'm autistic too as well) However, since we live in a fallen world, nothing is perfect, and sadly, even a great fandom can have a few bad apples in it and this is what i'm talking about today. It all started when i saw a youtube shorts with the title "every stupid greg canonization ranked by memes" in which they mocked things like takua being the first matoran ever created, Makuta being a species instea of Teridax being the only individual, Velika being a great being in disguise, and of course, everything related to the red star, specially it's capacity to revive dead characters i trought it was a pretty bad video that was nothing but pure nitpicking, then i wrote "i'm sorry but i don't see anything wrong with any of this", and then i got 2 guys harassing me, they kept saying that i was a kid, that i was dumb, that i was wrong, that i don't know what good writting is like, i tried debating them, but it was worthless, they were very bad folks and i deleted my comment. I decided to return to my old abandoned BZPower account because i need a support group from this, we as a fandom needs to be better and we should not enable this type of behaviour, LEGO is not bringing Bionicle back anytime soon, if we fight among each other, the flame will stop burning and Bionicle will die for good. Unity is one of the three virtues, we cannot in good conscience normalize this, we must fight against this, this is not toxic positivity, this is being sane.

  10. I've been a fan of Bionicle since 2002, and while a majority of the fanbase is nice, there is a very vocal minority. They're whiny, petty, and very toxic. But you're going to find that in any fandom. I wouldn't worry about it. Just block/don't interact with those kinds of people.

  11. This is a MOC I made, just used a white Rahkshi head to start and that informed the rest of his design. I don't even have a name for him, or a backstory or anything as of now. He even looks like a "good guy" to me a little bit although I'd definitely make him at least morally ambivalent. And of course he has ice powers.

  12. This is my Self-Moc, his name is Yoalli. He is a Toa of Shadow. He was originally a happy-go-lucky Po-Matoran stonemason and villager from Ankor Nui. He was abducted by Dark Hunters under the employment of Makuta Sinitrax, the Makuta of Ankor Nui, and used in a series of experiments- the goal of which was to create a perfect and secret Toa warrior with shadow powers who would work for the renegade Brotherhood of Makuta. He was brainwashed and drained of his inner light, and transformed into a Shadow Matoran. Through unnatural means, he was then transformed into a Toa of Shadow, and had forgotten his past as a normal Matoran. The Shadow Toa was given a Kanohi Hau by Sinitrax, which was meant to mock the Great Spirit Mata Nui. He was used as a top secret assassin by the Brotherhood of Makuta for years, not even the Order of Mata Nui was aware of his existence during this time. He then turned against the Makuta who created him, vowing vengeance. He roams the Matoran universe as an antihero, and under threat from Makuta and Dark Hunters, as well as other Toa, who seek to kill or capture him. In addition to having control of the element of shadows he uses metallic protodermis whip-chains as his same as his main weapon. He is grave, taciturn, and melancholic.

  13. That's cool you're still working on it. You haven't updated it since 2022, so I assumed you were done with it. LEGO doesn't accept unsolicited story ideas from the public. Greg used to have to tell people (like me) that over and over again. It's a liability issue to protect LEGO from people claiming LEGO stole their ideas. "It's nice to read fan stories, but still [...]" what? Do you find fanfiction inferior in some way?

  15. ( Heyo! It's my first time posting on a forum like this, but I really wanted to show this off and get some critiques. ) Introducing Onua, part of my take on the Toa called the "Toa Legends". \\ Building this big lug and his weapon took me a good few hours, but I'd say it was all worth it, because it single-handedly got me back into Bionicle again. Besides not being as "advanced" as other MOCs I've seen online, his drill was honestly a massive pain because it's way too heavy for him to hold. It fits on his hand decently well, but because I haven't found a solution to the weight problem, I've ultimately decided to make him a wrist-mounted saw blade weapon instead ( to be more accurate to his Nuva version. ) Anyways, be sure to let me know what you guys think! And I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have!

  21. Was browsing the blogs here after the end-of-April "boom" in activity and thought I'd add my own since it's been almost 3 years since I've added anything here, although it's almost the end of May now. In fact, this is actually the longest gap between entries since I started this blog. In many ways my life has followed the pretty natural progression from those last few entries. I'm still working the same job, although I've gotten a promotion and I've steadily gotten better at my work and picked up new responsibilities. I'm still enjoying life in my same apartment and I'm still responsible for my own messes and cleaning. Over time I've added new furniture and artwork to make it more my own. Really, in 2023 I had almost nothing here besides a kitchen table and a mattress on the floor. I'm still a music nerd. If anything I've gotten deeper and deeper into it. If anyone here uses Rate Your Music or just wants to see my tastes you can find me on there here. I got those crowns put on my teeth. Later on, I found a new dentist in my town to go to regularly. Turns out one of those crowns was put on improperly, leading to food constantly getting stuck in a hole near the bottom of the tooth after every meal I ate for about a year. I've gotten that taken care of now too. I never did make any sort of post for Brickfairs 2022-2024. Maybe I'll get around to that, but probably not since I doubt anyone cares. I could do it though since I do have all my thoughts written down privately. I missed 2025 due to being too bummed out about some family stuff. It sucks that that turned out to be the last year in the Dulles Expo Center, but no one knew that was coming. I'll definitely being going this year with it being right in Baltimore. Maybe I'll post about that afterwards. And I don't want to get too all into that family stuff I mentioned, but I'm very glad I've had my cousin as a relatively constant presence in my life over the last 3 years. Recently, she introduced me to a game I've been playing called Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts, which is where the image for this entry comes from. So there you go! It shouldn't be so long before the next one.

  26. Your abilities demonstrate promise. Since you've indicated feedback is welcome, I have prepared a quick edit to demonstrate the kinds of techniques I would apply to increase the impact of your composition. This is only because it is faster than describing at length in text without a visual example. This method of critique was used by many serious artists on pixelation.org (RIP) to communicate their constructive critiques more efficiently, and is in no way intended as an insult to your abilities or an effort to hijack the thread (really)! First I applied a loose 3x3 grid. Then I stretched the figure in several ways to align important objects, namely Reidak's face and the Antidermis Zamor Sphere he's about to launch, with eye-catching points on the grid. I also increased the size of the arm and sphere to force the perspective, making the Zamor Launcher appear to be emerging from the picture plane and aiming at the viewer with intensity. I also added several subtle VFX elements to make the glowing Zamor Sphere and Reidak's evil red eyes "pop" by increasing their level of contrast, then an additional creature in the background and a figurative carving in the nearby rock to make the environment feel more "lived-in". Finally, I framed the piece in a stone texture and added more intense text using cooltext.com I don't have the time to add these with 2D software, but I encourage you to try three-point lighting to illuminate the contours and positive space of your figure. It can look somewhat generic or cookie-cutter when used the same way all the time, but is a useful exercise to practice lighting principles. Here is an example I found online: Don't be afraid to "fake it" using multiple Point Lights in Blender. As long as the figure and environment looks good, it doesn't matter how the lights are placed, even if it isn't a realistic simulation of outdoor light. The audience does not know where the lighting elements are. By the same token, 2D overlays and composition tricks are just as valid as anything you can set up in the Blender 3D space. As for the Makuta picture, it is not particularly interesting without a background to contrast the figure and show your personal vision of the Makuta's place in the world of Bionicle. I would think about intensifying the perspective of his reaching pose and consider his place in the frame of the picture in a similar way to your Reidak picture. The background is not as important for the Skrall because it is a meme animation. In the original GIF the skeleton rocks/ambles backwards/around a good deal between shield bangs I.I.R.C. (If I Recall Correctly), but in your animation it freezes in a neutral A-pose. This looks fairly humorous, but freeze-frames draw a lot of attention in an animation where everything constantly moves, so should be considered carefully. Thanks for looking at and reading my critique, I hope it encourages you to keep producing work and develop your artistic skills!

  28. I’m always wary of stories like this where we only get one side of the debate. It’s human nature to try to portray oneself as positively as possible, and the fact that you refer to these people as "very bad folks" and openly admit to deleting your side of the convo leaves no room for nuance in your account of events, and makes it very hard for anyone to evaluate this exchange objectively. Having tracked down the video in question and skimmed through the comments, I can see a few users who are acting as you describe, talking down to other commenters for disagreeing with the video’s content, calling them ‘kid’, etc. so I’m inclined to believe your account of the comments you received. But without seeing your side of the debate, we only have your word on what was said and who escalated first. All of that said… it takes two to argue on the internet. You saw a video that was all about mocking questionable story decisions, in your own words decided it was “a pretty bad video”, scrolled to a comment section that was filled with dozens of people agreeing with the video, and chose to make a comment disagreeing with everything it said. Whether intentionally or not, you were challenging the other people in that space. I want to be clear that I’m not defending the comments those people made, or the language they used, but posting a comment like that, in a space like that, and acting hurt when you receive backlash is like deliberately stomping on a snake and complaining that it whipped around and bit you. Part of internet survival, regardless of fandom or topic, is recognising an echo chamber when you walk into one, and knowing when not to engage. Now please correct me if I’m misunderstanding here, but these two comments taken together make it sound like you consider not only the comments you received, but criticism content like the video itself to be behaviour the community should be “better” than and “fight against”. People have strong feelings about many aspects of Bionicle. Ask a group of fans what the best team or best era is, and battle lines will be drawn. There are plenty of aspects of Bionicle that some people dislike, and Greg’s rampant random canonisations are among the most contentious and controversial. There’s nothing inherently wrong with criticising these things. There’s room for healthy discourse and debate. There are some subjects that people are never going to see eye to eye on, and that’s normal. If what you’re looking for is a Bionicle fandom that never disagree on anything… that’s not a community, it’s just another kind of echo chamber.

  30. I’m very sorry you experienced that! 😢 I am shocked by how brutal people are to each other on social media comments in the present time. That’s why I prefer BZPower over free range internet, since civility and single account rules are present. I’ve had a few (maybe 5-6 total) issues with people on here and the BZP discord server combined, over many years of membership. I think most of it stemmed from misunderstanding. I’m quite convinced I am autistic with ADHD (still on waitlist for evaluation). This makes me somewhat of a strange, socially inept person, and this on top of being a girl on a mostly male site has had its challenges. The good experiences and friendships have been far more abundant, though. 🫶 First one was a bit of a bullying situation with a young member. It seems as if my personality annoyed them significantly. After some insults were posted publicly, I received a threatening message that I reported at the advice of my brother. Black Six responded to that member’s threat message via my inbox. I massively surprised that was possible and grateful to be out of the situation. Edit: The member did PM me out of the blue years later and very kindly apologized. 🥹🙏 Second one was different, more recent, a member who was around 7 years older than I seemed to…fancy me, I suppose (this was when my age was public here)? And became disgruntled when this simply terrified me. Staff were very helpful with this. I don’t know what happened, but they were permanently “unwelcomed” a day before my birthday one year. I still wonder if they tried to post something weird about it. 🫣 Third one was just a misunderstanding with a friend here. Again, things got awkward due to my gender and social cluelessness, and traditional values on what is prudent to discuss. Scared me as well, but with the pain of losing trust in a friend (instead of the terror of a creepy stranger).🙈 Again, BZP staff defused the situation with the member and there has been peace since. The last and most recent two incidents were on the BZPower Discord server. I didn’t realize that Discord had an issue with predatory people, or that other servers weren’t really moderated well. First person (around a decade older than I, but I thought they were a kid/teen befriending me initially. They didn’t know my age, but many say I appear younger than I am.)had some cryptic and non age restricted adult content in their Lego server. They befriended me in DMs, starting commenting on a lot of my IG posts of photos I was in, then got weird. Asked for photos of my dog and then made a really strange comment that seemed like they were attempting to get me to tell them my address. He later deleted these DMs. This was terrifying as I had an Etsy shop and used my real return address at the time (later switched that to my brother’s apartment), so if someone bought something they could stalk me. I was too scared to tell anyone for a while, and didn’t realize I could report it to BZP staff via Discord (since the member was active in the BZP discord server) so they could watch him. I also found out he had two accounts here so reported him for that, since I could prove it. It appears that he fled the BZP server at some point after that. He’s still active on Biogram, some of my friends from here follow him and have no idea.…🫣 Grateful for block settings. The most recent run in was with a member who showed up on BZP’s discord server and was specifically targeting underage members to join their non age restricted, inappropriate Lego server. There was a drunken voice chat run by the guy with the kids on many nights. Reported this to BZP staff so they could watch out. Filed so many (hundreds of message links) discord reports and the server got multiple strikes. This led to the member and the kids he’d lured over there threatening “the traitor” (me, but they didn’t know) in a cult-like retaliation. Said they were going to unalive them. I don’t know if the server ever got fully shut down, but Discord did update their adult content rules a few weeks later. This was such a mentally draining experience. The member either fled the BZP server or was removed from it shortly after. edit: I forgot, in Feb 2025 a new account I hadn’t spoken to made a topic insulting my me and religion. was very random and strange. They were permanently “unwelcomed”. 🤷‍♀️ Overall, my experience with the Bionicle community has been very good, but I credit BZPower’s rules and staff for this. I did disable my inbox here due to an abundance of caution/fear of people getting creepy or “crushing” on me simply because of my gender. I fear I may have pushed 1 member/friend from here away unfairly due to fear of this, but I’m never certain of people’s intentions. 🙈 The unmoderated, often ruthless internet out there is something I try to avoid. Anyway, welcome back to BZP! I hope you enjoy it here, it’s pretty peaceful these days.

  31. I've been a Bionicle fan since 2005, (I was a little kid) and have been (at least a lurker) in the online community since 2007 or 2008, and I can say that as the years have gone on it's surely only gotten increasingly more divisive, especially since like 2015 or so as many of the fans have become more combative adults. Obviously there was controversies and arguments during the Gen 1 era but the internet was kinda different back then in a social sense and many of the fans were kids themselves. ****** back then the AFOLs use to hate on Bionicle and stuff when all us kids loved it as we were growing up with it. I remember how fun but also kinda toxic BioTube was during the 2009-2011 years (you just had to be there) but it was mostly just petty drama between teenagers online, and oddly enough didn't even really revolve around Bionicle itself. And now you have oldheads and long term fans bashing down on the younger Gen Z crowd who got into Bionicle way late or even after it ended, which I think I can somewhat understand where they come from but we should be grateful that Bionicle has such a cult following and still is talked about after all these years, and those younger fans bring life into it. Community is good but I don't put much faith into fandoms, any fandom really, you should just like the hobby and associate with likeminded people because every person is still different even if we're all Bionicle fans, anyone that can't accept peoples different opinions without turning it into a flame war should just be ignored. Also, most modern social media sites (including YouTube) are cesspools, especially if they have short-form content. Those comment sections are always a mess. They don't call it brainrot for nothing.

  33. It's just such a weirdly specific thing to worry about and it doesn't impact anything narratively important. There are already tons of instances of both the sets and story containing non-canon idiosyncrasies like this and this specific issue doesn't matter all that much.

  35. Agreed, he's very Icarax-derivative, but the leg extensions do give him some uniqueness. I feel like it's questionable in both story and physical set terms to give him a Kraahkan, though. The story already had to jump through some hoops to explain why Icarax and Teridax both wore it

  36. Here's a topic I didn't think I'd ever see again. As someone who's only seen the first three seasons of Ninjago, that Wikia page is a wild read. I get the concept of alluding to "other worlds" as an easter egg for fans of other LEGO properties to headcanon them as existing in the same multiverse if you want, but I really don't want to see Kai and the gang getting involved on Metru Nui and retroactively making Bionicle worse. A neat note I did find in that Wikia page is that, within Ninjago, some other LEGO properties are not parallel realms but do exist as fictional stories. This is another thing that bugs me about shared universes, easter eggs can be done as having different storylines co-exist, OR by having fictional stories reference other fictional stories as fictional stories, and it gets complex in years-long stories and mistakes are made. I know Drake & Josh both exists in iCarly as a fictional TV show, while characters from D & J also show up in iCarly, and the only real solution is to just not think about it. (As another weird implication of shows from that era of TV, Victoria Justice appears in iCarly in the crossover episode with Justice's own TV show, and she also appears on iCarly playing an unrelated character, so if we're taking the show as literal we must conclude Tori Vega and Shelby Marx are completely identical and people who have met both of them just don't comment upon it.)

It's been a minute for me, but when I lived there, I always enjoyed going to the bakery or Super Brugsen to pick up a Hindbærsnitter - kind of a giant Pop Tart thing. Afraid I can't be more help with the brick-related stuff... a lot has changed in Billund since I was last there in 2013.

  47. This is one of those questions where my immediate reaction is... does it matter? 2007 is pretty notorious for the fact that Greg was working off early prototypes and descriptions, leading to a number of inconsistencies between the written lore and the final sets. Carapar is said to have two pincers in the novels. Similarly, Jaller has two swords. Nuparu has a blaster blade instead of a shield. Pridak has a mouth full of sharp teeth instead of a cephalopod beak. There are several characters mentioned in the books who never got sets, and the Hydruka sets barely feature in the story. And so on. Moreover... Kalmah, like all of the surviving Barraki, had his mutations cured at the end of the story. So the 'correct' answer is that he has no tentacles now.
