Hapori Tohu
Scientists at the Australian National University have used a Lego Pirate in their experiments on 'super rogue waves'. The team placed the Lego Pirate and his ship in a scientific fish tank with a wave generator and let it run. The ship was eventually capsized by a rogue wave, but the pirate went unharmed. You can read more about the experiment here. Obsessionist
Very cool. I know that the science is a big deal, and I think it's really cool, but honestly, the video is kind of anticlimatic. Still awsome, though.
Bambi
Okay, it's starting to seem like we're desperate for news now. Interesting nonetheless. Quote [my blog] [custom emotes]
Phyoohrii
We see these stories all the time here, Australian Universities love their wave machines. Usually they use only plastic and wooden boats, not LEGO boats though, so that's pretty cool. We have a great marine sciences program here. But it's good for getting an idea of scale and such. If it was any bigger a wave, it wouldn't exactly be very realistic, which isn't good for science. I found it amusing enough anyway. Gatanui
A LEGO pirate boat swimming on water. How exciting. What I don´t get is why this is news for Gizmodo. The scientists could have taken anything but a LEGO pirate boat while still obtaining the same result. I guess they had nothing better at hand or one of the scientists is a LEGO fan. Congrats on your first news post, though, Paleo. -Gata Quote - Gata Please don't use my avatar or signature without permission, thanks!
TheSkeletonMan939
In an equally interesting development, I slept until 9:00 yesterday.Either BZP is running out of news or someone thought this was an awesome story.
Tanu Toa of Earth
Somewhere in-between the two, I assume. Somewhat amusing though.
Parazan
Okay, I was confused until I saw the title. You should say pirate ship. Anyways, I thought it was cool. Hexann
This just shows that LEGO can take sience to a whole new level.
Athmos
Either LEGO paid them to use it, one of the scientists was a fan or someone left the model ship at home and took their son's toy. Quote WIP
