Unknown Isles, Near Darkest Shadow lands

IC

The night had fallen quickly, Dark River reflected, this was a good sign. The Darkness was strong at the moment, having the upper hand against the vile Bright Spirit and his foul handmaiden, Death. Dark River lifted his muzzle to the sky, testing the air for any sign of game or other members of his tribe. The air was thick with scents, flowers in bloom, the crisp smell of leaves and the refreshing tones of fresh water. He could smell his companions of course, four of them trailed behind him, waiting for his commands. They looked much like him, large dark-haired wolves with shining red eyes. The most powerful defenders of the dark, a combination of man's brilliance and the wolves courage. Truly the Darkness had chosen well. Dark River lowered his muzzle and looked at the path ahead, the twisting trees and thick brush hid much...but if one knew the old signs of his people, they would never truly be lost.

One of those signs loomed ahead of them, a simple circular stone, with jagged line symbols sliced into it, a carving of a spider marking it's center. One of their monuments to the dead was nearby. Dark River cast his gaze back to his four comrades, one of them was still laden with a small Travois that held their supplies, clothing and food all wrapped into a neat bundle. They would have enough food to stay camped at the site for many moons, rather fortunate considering channeling mana was an uncertain enterprise at best. He had been unable to scent any other members of his tribes on the wind, which was disappointing he had hoped to be able to send word back to the council. They had dispatched him and his party some time ago and would no doubt be wanting word before long. On a whim, Dark River threw his head back and howled. The haunting sound would be carried on the wind and, hopefully, reach the ears of one his tribe.

With that, he trotted forwards, party in tow.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

Bit of an important news flash here folks. For plot stuffs, I'm going to time skip us a few days into the future. No current interactions will be affected (Power is still talking to his basement-spirit in the past, for instance), but keep in mind that a few days still have passed. I guess the gravesite thing right above me takes place in the now-present. Keep in mind that throughout this, the sun's been having some issues, namely that it's starting to flicker and dark spots are growing larger and larger.

IC [To Basilisk]:

Death was always something the Final Conclave viewed as an oddity.

Four able men carried their fallen comrade on a platform made of woven reed and pieces of firm stick, while a medicine woman trailed behind them, occasionally tossing down a combination of salt and flowers to ward off any evil that might attempt to follow them. They were heading to a nearby monument, not constructed by them but rather one of their neighbors to the north. The Conclave had little purpose with monuments, but they preferred to rest their comrades here all the same. Death was not a simple process, rather a long and intricate series of challenges and hurdles to overcome to achieve true happiness. There was safety in numbers, and so they would make sure that their companion's soul would rest easy here.

When the pack from Darkest Shadows arrived on the scene they would find the medicine lady sprinkling a strange dust on the dead man's body, and then, oil made from one of the smaller sea monsters that had been found. With that a quick brush of a torch set the body alight, roaring into the night sky as it crackled and burned with in full glory.

IC [To Power][Present]:

A strange thing happened at Sky Reach to Sky.

As the dim morning sun rose into the sky, tribesmen and women would awake to find a procession along the path leading directly into the ziggurat. Eight tall and gray-skinned beings advanced through the collection of huts outside, into the stone base and instantly navigating to where they knew someone of importance would be. Their forms seemed... less than corporeal, however, flickering in and out of existence depending on what angle they were viewed at. It was obvious that they were not to be seen, but the centuries of spiritual understanding had allowed the tribe to view them anyways. Regardless, none stood to stop them, as really, would you want to stop eight heavily muscled and seven foot tall humanoids?

They eventually came across someone of importance, an elder shaman. The group's leader stood forward, and conversed in the tongue of Sky Reach to Sky. "Greetings, shaman. We need to discuss the sun. Please, gather all those who can do something."

IC [To Xom]:

In the village of the Mayincatec, something similar though slightly less theatrical happened. Instead of eight, there were three, and they made no efforts to demonstrate their appearance. People saw flickers of movement in the corners of their eyes, but never anything solid. It was not until they had done a similar process and tracked down an elder shaman that they became fully visible, their forms ceasing to shimmer in and out. The leader of the group was rather direct to the point.

"The sun is dying. Before you attempt to bathe it with blood, your leaders need to speak with us."

IC [To No-one]:

"The sun is dying." It was the the middle-aged shaman who spoke at the gathering. "There is no doubt about it. An uktena has been unleashed on the world, and now it immediately seeks to crush it's enemy. We have truly unleashed a blight on this land."

"What can we do about it?" It was a thought one elder voiced, but all thought at once.

"We must journey to the sky. Alas, I'm not entirely sure of how to do that. However, I have sent my equal and our apprentice to speak with the local spirits. We must find a way, and soon, if we want to patch this problem before word spreads of our blunder."

IC:The elder Shaman seemed hardly surprised; he wore the pelt of a jaguar on his head and back, the teeth framing his forehead. His hair was streaked with grey, but arms still showed the contours of muscle. The young Shamsness had been in conversation with her, and was about to answer them when he shushed her with a "Ss, Tlateca. Fetch Cozincat." Tlateca exhaled through her nose and headed for the stone stepped pyramid in the center of the isle village. The Shaman who had not left turned back towards the trio. "I am Kolukash, Shaman of the Mayincatec, and I speak for Yakkulash. What do you know of this blight upon the sun?"

IC: "Noble one, you must be aware that there are other namers like us in the world. And they too seek to use spirits. Spirits that may be set against us, or even you," she paused to let that sink in, "What we wish to do is create a means of denying other tribes such underhanded tactics. If they cannot use spirits against us then many spirits will be spared harm," She added, since the spirit seemed to appreciate honesty, "And, of course, so will we. It is a good thing for all. Both the tree and the tiny animals that shelter in its branches benefit from this."

IC: "And what is the something that needs doing," the shaman Eyes of the River asked, apparently unperturbed by the band of Nunnehni, "Will this matter of the sun require strength of mind, strength of arm or strength of spirits?"

IC [To Xom]:

"The blight is not one of nature, but rather of malice." The nunnehi pack leader shook his head with disgust. "Our chronicles tell of a time this happened once before; when one of your kind grew angry at the sun, and attempted to slay it in combat. It would appear round two has begun."

IC [To Power][Past]:

Interesting. Impractical. Interesting. The ground beneath the shaman shook with a great roar and in an instant, it had engulfed her without a trace. Her entire vision was dark for several seconds, until she was deposited in a somewhat respectful fashion far beneath the ground, in what appeared to be a cavern of growing crystals, with a basin of sparkling water. A truly marvelous sight, especially for one so use to the dull intricacies of the upper world.

Power. No. The voice of the spirit rippled across the water, the earth breathing with each word. It was something of intuition, but the sense of not only great power but a great intelligence was felt. For all of its simplistic language, a magnificent mind rested behind those words. Harmony. Yes. Understand harmony. Understand union. Understand respect. Not power.

IC [To Power][Present]:

"A fair point, I suppose. Most tribesmen simply summon their shamans when we ask them that." The nunnehi seemed to of gained a point of respect for the shaman. "I suggest summoning your warriors and one of your younger shamans. This will be an endeavor that will require brute strength, and the creativity only the inexperienced are willing to accept."

"It's... slightly more complicated than that." The nunnehi blinked, thinking of a good analogy for a moment. "Stoking the flames with blood is useless because the flames are being smothered by the assassin. Kill the assassin, and the flames once again rise. But, we cannot spend much more time discussing this. Time is of the essence if you do not wish for all warmth to vanish from this world. Please, gather your finest warriors, as well as a shaman; we have transportation prepared."

IC (Dark River)

Dark River halted as they came upon the monument to the dead. He could spell oils, salt and other scents. This was disturbing for many reasons, not the least of which was the fact this area did not normally smell of them. His entire body tensed and an involuntary growl escaped his throat. He knew they had neighbors upon these islands, but they had largely kept to themselves. If they were profaning the graves of the dead however....well, that would change quite quickly. Needing no orders, his comrades crept beside him, slowly approaching the graveyard through the underbrush. Then, quite suddenly, they emerged on all sides of the intruders, crouched low and ready to strike. They would probably determine these were no normal wolves-simply by the fact one of them was pulling a rickshaw behind him.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

IC [To Basilisk]:

With such neighbors, the members of the Final Conclave hardly needed to see signs of intelligence to know that these were no ordinary wolves. Within seconds the men had pulled out axes made of flint, while the keeper of the dead had her arm outstretched, her cloak shifting to reveal intricate tattoos running across her hands and arms. The moment was appropriately tense, but the woman spoke anyways, a rough form of the dialect the Darkest Shadow tribe spoke. Root languages were always useful in communing with your neighbors.

"We mean you no harm," she said quietly. "Do not attack. Neither of the fallen would approve."

IC:Within an hour, the Mayincatec had gathered six men, along with one woman; two were from the hunting party that had accompanied Tlateca. Tlateca herself was there as well. Three of the men carried large wooden clubs with Flint spikes adorning them, and wore Jaguar skins on their heads down their backs. Three carried spears, and had brightly dyed feathers attached to bands in their hair. Each carried a bow.The Elder shaman spoke "Tlateca will accompany you. She has the power of youth, and she has...dealt with your kind once already."

IC (Dark River)

Dark River paused for a moment, then his body began to shift and changing, becoming more human and less wolf. Finally, Dark River stood before the intruders in the form of a man. His body baring the jagged black markings so favored by his people, his black hair tried in ponytail behind his head and his red eyes glowering at those who had intruded on this monument of the dead. "Why have you come? Neither of the fallen?"

IC [To Xom]:

The posse proceeded to the water line, where a surprisingly large boat was resting. Canoe like in appearance, it was long and thick, perhaps even suited for oceanic travel. After the group was loaded into it, the boat set off, the nunnehi rowing slow at first but rapidly speeding up. Soon, they were zipping across the vast lake, and those from the hunting party before would realize that they were going in the same direction. The shaman Tlateca would likely have a good idea of why they were heading in this direction.

IC: The shamans at Reach summoned the tribe together using the large horns they'd affixed close to the ziggurat's base. They were normally used if the whole clan needed to be gathered for one of the Harvests, but this seemed an important task as well.

Quickly their warriors were selected, and a couple of the younger shamans along with them.

"Will they be requiring provisions?" Eyes asked

IC: "So..." Mouth contemplated, thinking hard on what the spirit was saying, "They stay away not because you are a king, but because you are...an older brother. Of sorts."

IC: Tribe of Fading Night

Four members of The Blood Kin'dred, crouched in the underbrush, hunting on their way to meet with their distant cousins of the Wounded Night, further on in the forest. They had been tracking this deer for about an hour, but now they had found it and it was time for the hunt. "Koual aat." The man leading the party signaled for two of the men to cover it's left and right, while he would take it from behind. The men moved into position only for the deer to bolt around a tree forcing them to reorganize and run after it. They ran through the forest, the deer only getting further away. " Hraat ta'll, aaht!" The most agile member shouted, then threw two rabbits to the rest of the group and shot after the deer. Every thorn that pricked his skin as he passed, every branch that whipped againest his body as he ran, all they did was make him angrier, drove him faster. He lept over a log, saw the deer was tired, and in one final burst of speed caught up. Just as he caught up something slammed into the deer's and his side knocking them both to the ground. It took him a mintue to get what ever it was off him but when he did, he stood up and growled, flexed his claws and then lept at it.

[Rough Translation The Blood Kin'dred Dialect, Start.]

"Move Up." says the party leader " I'll take it, hold these!" says the agile member.

Sugawara Tribal Lands

IC: Sa'aki was nervous. As the newest shaman of the Sugawara he had a lot to catch up on. One such thing was meeting the tribes patron spirit for the first time.

He knelt down in front of a row of candles within the long shaman's hut, taking long calm breaths to calm himself. The smoke from the incense wafted around the rafters and filled the place with a soothing scent. Quietly he began to chant, slowly growing louder as he continued. After several minutes his voice was just under a shout, able to be heard from outside the hut and in the village proper.

Reaching the end of his chant, Sa'aki called out, "Koi Shinrei!" and stopped, breathing slightly heavily, and waiting for the spirit to respond.

Six members of the Wounded Night stood in a lightly forested area talking softly. "Keh ta ke ta wou?" Asks a young white haired boy. "Seh te ta te wa, geh. Aeia Kou'a'ja?" Asks the Shaman apprentice, the hood of his signature white cloth pulled high over his suntanned face. "Ah te gah wa na, keh te ye wa." states Kou'ah'ja, his four pony tails swinging with his head as he looks about alertly. "Aeyah, ke tah." Kou'ah'ja says his grip on his onyx spear loosening slightly as he shifts position. "Hah! Teh ye tah." Says one of the men next to Kou'ah'ja, and points in the direction of the trees.

Seven people emerged from where the man pointed, three of them with several different types of kill draped around their bodies. One, with blood dripping from what seemed like various different wounds, dragging a body behind her. "Gayt nat kahl, Sahanneiyt!" Called out the man in front of the group.

"Weh. Teh ka gah na ka, seh keh." the Shaman apprentice replied. Both groups greet each other before mixing and moving on.

"Our ritual is complete. There is little we can do after we free them from their broken shell." The medicine woman sighed, tossing one final burst of spice into the fire. "Do as you will. We will leave."

IC: Mouth wasn't entirely sure what the spirit wanted her to do. Respect the area? Was it trying to get her to understand that the space inside the circle was the space inside the circle and could not be anything else, or was it suggesting that since the circle was inside the bigger circle they were still the same thing and she could have power over both?

IC: "No. My interest is merely speculative," Eyes said, "But I would prefer you reveal what you intend to do with our warriors. We are...somewhat defenceless against the wilds without them. We would prefer not to squander them. What is your plan for stopping this assassination?"

IC [To Power][Present]:

"Your warriors will go to the sky and preferably dispatch this assassin quickly. They will not be going alone; a tribe to your north west has been summoned as well. I believe your two tribes have met in the past. The dangers of the Upper World are few, though exceptional when they appear. As for the exact means of stopping this assassination... obviously the assassin is protected from spiritual energy somehow, but I suspect one of your weapons will suffice to crack his skull. If not, there are alternatives." The nunnehi pulled small bundle of arrows from the quiver on his back, handing it to the shaman. "Arrows from a bygone era, forged by a people far to the south. Your hunters will find their aim... exceptional with these."

IC: Lake

"Perhaps. I take it we are to use this..." Tlateca paused and combined a pair of Mayincatec words "...Roamstone to travel to the Realm of Blue and kill this sunsnuffer?"

That being said, thag thag thaggity thag thagness.

"A memo was sent to Astaria asking if it would at all be possible to make a flying goat."

"The Astarians responded that making a goat fly would be trivial; making it land safely would be another matter entirely."

"Worldstone. And yes, that is the idea. I will of course not be coming along, nor will any of my kind, but I trust that your warriors are more than adept at killing."

"They are hunters first, but any mortal man we can overcome. Do we fight alone, then?" Tlateca looked suddenly apprehensive.

"No, you do not. We have asked the assistance of a neighboring tribe; I suspect your two tribes have met before. Perhaps fought with each other, perhaps traded daughters with each other. Who can say what the histories have other than the histories themselves. Regardless, we trust them to be competent warriors."

IC (Dark River)

Dark River nodded. Their neighbors normally kept to themselves and the Darkest Shadow returned the favor. It was an arrangement that worked out for everyone. "May the shadows embrace you and the Darkness watch over you."

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

IC [To Basilisk]:

"The shadows embrace all of us in the end. It is merely a matter of how hard you struggle." With such lovely words as that, the group departed, slipping away into the night quickly.

IC [To Power]:

"If that is the case, then make sure your men are brave, gather your supplies, and we shall make with all due haste for the manner with which your warriors will travel to the sky. Ask the Great Spirit that they succeed quickly."
