Lapland Trip Cancelled

On account of the boats being dry-docked for winter.   Excuse me while I work out my disappointment through music and breathing exercises.   Also, it's been snowing like crazy here all day. Not looking forward to winter. The last one seemed like it'd never end! I miss balmy Vancouver....

North

There's something about the Great Wilds of the North that strikes some deeply compelling chords in my soul. Through books like Gary Paulsen's Hatchet, Farley Mowat's Lost in the Barrens and People of the Deer, and Michio Hoshino's Grizzly, I have been able to vicariously experience some of the unforgiving beauty of those remote lands.   When I was a boy, one of my brothers and I went with my dad, one of his brothers, and their dad on a hunting trip to Thutade Lake in northern British Columbia.

Name Change Phail

No can do 'till the 17th. Oh well.   As you can see, I've joined the sub-par-movie sub-fad. I don't normally do this sort of thing, but I just so happened to have a particular movie in mind that works perfectly in only such a context, whilst also shining forth the mystique of the number 13.   It hasn't been that long since I watched The 13th Warrior. As cinema, it's terrible. It's an adaptation of Eaters of the Dead, a novel by the late Michael Crichton. I'm actually a bit of a fan of Mr. Cri

~ Q ~

More properly TheQ, also known as InfamousQ on Flickr. I met him today. First time meeting a fellow AFOL IRL. It was a neat experience to talk about all that brick-related stuff in person.   Q is a university student, 22 years old, from the Rovaniemi area, way up on the Arctic circle. He's currently the LEGO Ambassador for all of Finland. He organizes live exhibitions, most notably LEGOPark down south in Tampere, with LP2009 in August having been the third annual LEGOPark, as well as online co

Ballistic Member Interview

As I mentioned, I was recently interviewed by the excellent Takuta-Nui, a fellow Canadian and writer of some of the most amazing BIONICLE fan fiction I have ever seen.     Read the complete interview here.

Letting Go, Moving On

Fireworks at Twilight   Someone said I've been on a roll lately, as far as MOCs go. Well, there's a reason for that, although what that reason was, I didn't know until very recently.   It's called, "Getting it out of your system."   "Going out with a bang."   "One last fling."   The convergence of my BBCC55 entry with my 1300th post special was no accident, nor is it an accident that I am meeting a LEGO Ambassador in person this coming Friday. It's also no accident that, at the same time, I

Wisdom

I've been trying to get some sleep before Takuta-Nui interviews me from nine time zones away for the latest round of BZPower Member Interviews, but alas! Sleep is not forthcoming. So I figured I might as well use the time to post this.   -------------   Wednesday evening.   BCii makes preparations in a mood of quiet contemplation. Watches the sun set. Listens to his thoughts and the surprising new things they are telling him. Eats a simple but hearty vegetarian meal. Takes a shower, shaves. D

Google is promoting crop circles today. (In Europe, at least, I don't know about America.) Here are a couple of crop formation images from my Majhost: These aren't even close to being the most interesting ones that have been laid down. Discuss.

This Is Madness!

I got my contest entry built. Took me a whole entire weekend of literally doing not much else. I'm going to need the coming weekdays just to physically recover from that marathon.   Next phase, photography. If I thought the actual build was bad... whew. Out of thirteen experimental shots tonight, two just might be useable. I anticipate much frustration and slow going in the session(s) to come. I'm afraid my camera was designed to be cheap, not to be able to handle projects like this with any ki

B B C C 55

It's been a while since I last entered an official BBC Contest. Fortunately, the latest one, just announced, is set to change that.   As luck would have it, ToM Dracone's recent excellent rendition of Administrator Piyufi already inspired me to take another go-round at MOCing everyone's favourite puffin gal. She seems to be my favourite, too, as far as MOCs of BZPower members go -- I've done her portrait in bricks twice already, which is like 10,000 times my average for BZP members. But then, t

Mystery Of The Mystery Piece Revisited -- And Solved!

Back in January, I blogged about an odd part that I'd encountered online. It wasn't listed in any set inventories that I could find, but the photo had me convinced that it was legit. Others elsewhere have disagreed on this point. Theoretically, the original photo could be a careful hoax.   But now, my friends, I am pleased to announce that all doubts have been dispelled. I present incontrovertible proof that this unlikely-looking piece does, in fact, exist:     The elusive Technic Liftarm 1x

Ooooooold -- But New!

Check it!   UPDATE:     Thanks to a tip from a person whose BZPower username I unfortunately don't know, the MOC in question was posted on a well-known LEGO-themed blog The Brothers Brick. My Flickr account was subsequently hit with a flood of people adding me to their contacts and commenting on my pictures. One of them happened to be a LEGO Ambassador and AFOL "community organizer" and also a resident of Oulu, where I live. He sent me a Flickr mail introducing himself and inviting me to joi

Neil G. & Black Orchid <3

It seems like everything Neil Gaiman does is magic. I remember picking up The Sandman: Vol. 1 for the first time at the public library. I think I was expecting some kind of superhero comic. Well, I wasn't totally wrong -- but this was a wholely different kind of "superhero comic" from the ones I'd known. In my frame of reference, the flavour was more Stephen King than caped crimefighter. How to describe it? Well... if superheroes are the demi-gods of our day, and their tales our legends..

Red Star Wip Teaser

This thing is a full 55 cm across. By sheer piece count, it's probably my biggest MOC ever.

White Light

[Listening to: Gorillaz - Demon Days]   OMG. For a second there, I couldn't find the "Add entry" button anymore. Guess it's been a while, eh?   It was nice to be away, and it's nice to be back. I'll stop short of actually thanking the so-called hackers for what they did, but for me personally, their juvenile shenanigans probably did more good than harm.   I just thought of a great advantage of my lazy/relaxed habit of MOCing without hardly never taking pictures: it translates into a huge pool

~ Observer Mode Activated ~

It's probably obvious from my words on this site in the past (and if it isn't, I'm saying it now) that I am a man on a quest. It is a quest for inner power, wisdom, and love, for ever-expanding awareness of Truth.   Far from being straightforward and easy, the path I am committed to following is extraordinarily difficult. It offers many opportunities to lose one's way, and it is trolled by powerful and clever hostile forces that do everything they can to thwart one's progress. To describe in an

Anniversaries, Crop Circles, And Full Moon Syndrome

Today is 7-7-2009.   The moon is full.   Correspondingly, I have spent a sleepless night. Didn't even try to sleep. Didn't feel all that sleepy to begin with. Full moons do that to me. I did, however, fulfill my body's earnest demand for sleep from about 8:30 to about 13:30 today. So I'm running on five hours of sweet oblivion and two cups of mocha.   Today happens to be the fourth anniversary of the London metro bombings. Interestingly, the planners of the attacks chose the date 7-7-2005,

Revenge Of The Double 'i'

Disclaimer: Any hidden meaning in the following entry is strictly subjective.  I've been known on this site by the handle BCii for many years. It always felt appropriate, from the day I came up with it. To those who wonder what it means, I can't give you a straight answer. It means a lot of things. Many interpretations of that cryptic name have revealed themselves to me over the years: some whimsical, some banal, and others mystical.   As you know, I recently changed my display name to the BCt

Ego Consciousness Blargh

So I started another blarghsoapbox the other day. What a disaster.   Well, not really. I'm actually quite pleased, on the one hand. But yeah.   I'm supposed to use that one as an outlet for my Really Serious And Hard Hitting Thoughts, as opposed to the "BZPower-friendly" stuff. <--- False dichotomy, but that's words for ya. They'll trap you every time.   And speaking of traps... I tell you, I'm an expert at setting them up and then walking right into them. Although "expertise" is hardly t
