Ah, she's fun to draw. Doodled her this morning while waiting for class to start. Anyway. I've been working on my skills at clothes. Recently doodled my sleeves and jeans in class for practice. I think I've gotten marginally better, as in the above doodle. Oh yeah, suffering from giraffe syndrome as often happens when I doodle the head first and decide to tack on the body afterwards. I learned today that the song "Happy Birthday To You" is technically copyrighted in the United States until 2030. Which is why you never hear it on TV or in movies, only variations or songs like "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."

According to screenshots from a TV commercial for the March issue of Newtype magazine of the cover of said magazine posted on a relatively reliable site that I can't link to due to forums but I watched an upload of the commercial myself and it looks pretty darned legit, the new season of Haruhi is announced for April of this year and while I would not be surprised if KyoAni were pulling our legs again let me just take this moment to say

For some reason, I can draw (in fact, prefer to do so) and do most of my homework (Latin, Physics, math, etc.) with music on... but I'm unable to write very well. Be it an essay or a story, if I'm actually putting thought into it (which means my Global Studies essays don't count; they're 90%, er... "filler material" [as the actual term is not allowed on BZP]) I can't concentrate right if something's playing in the background.

Spent most of the day at PUMaC, the Princeton University Math Competition (you can't pronounce "PUMC" after all).
Man those tests were hard. And I mean hard. Hard as in, "How the heck do I even start this problem?" hard.

Somebody has headphones on and is listening to their MP3 player. The volume is so loud that the people around them can hear the music. Somebody else yells at them to turn the volume down.
Who is being rude and selfish, the person who is blasting their music or the person who yells at them to turn it down?
I tried to write that unbiased but if you know me or have read an entry I made some time ago, you'll know which side I'm on. I want to see whether I'm the only one who is bothered by this

Our Science Olympiad team placed 5th at the regionals, which means we advance to States!
For the two events I participated in, I got second for one and sixth for another. Surprisingly, the second place was for Remote Sensing, which I know like nothing about. I credit my partner with that second place. He did the conceptual questions since he actually knew the material, I took the math parts of the test off his hands.

Only some more refinements left for Shana herself! Gotta color the lineart and I want to bring up the contrast on some of the shading. After that I want to give it a halfway decent background. Wings of fire weren't as bad as I thought they'd be.
Anyway as you can tell I was pretty liberal with duplicating and adding layers here.
Still undergoing some refinements, but that's basically it. The wings are left as sketches because they won't be outlined in the final colored version. How should I color it, winter or summer uniform?

I'm pretty proud of the hands. I'm not very good at hands but I think they came out nicely.
As you can probably tell, I gave up on trying to draw the long, smooth blade of the sword with the brush tool, so I did it with the pen tool instead. Might have to do that for her cloak and hair, too.
Speaking of which, I might redo parts of her hair to make it look better... man I wish I could draw like Noizi Ito, she's amazing.
