April Fools

Yeah, it was the best prank ever!   ... April Fools.   Yeah, no. Come on! I missed Vahkipower (joined the month after it happened, *sigh*) but I remember the chaos caused by KimPower. At least that fooled people, and it resulted in mass panic (and what is more fun than panic?).   2006 there was... nothing till the eleventh hour. Last year, removing CoT and LGD? Panic, but little humor in it, and not nearly elaborate enough to live up to VP and KP. This year there was this... I mean, joke news

Ever Done It Before?

Well, I don't feel like making two entries for this, so before I get into the bigger portion a bit of news that gets categorized under "Life."   Took the Math II SAT II today. I was absolutely stressed and the allergies... my right eye wouldn't stop involuntarily twitching... my fingers were shaking, my arm was aching... I finished in time to catch not a single mistake. Hopefully that means I got mostly everything right and not that I missed everything I got wrong...   It wasn't really that ba

More New York

Guess what I did today? I had lunch at the restaurant from Seinfeld.   Now where else can ya do that? Food was pretty good too.   Yesterday I was going to the bathroom... and when I tried to close the stall door... it fell off. Not only is that completely messed up, but the thing hit me right in the ear! Gah. Eventually I got it back on its hinges, with the help of someone else who was in there, but man, that thing HURT.   I finished The Amber Spyglass today. Rather sad ending... *sigh* I gue

Tabula Rasa

You know what's great about snow? It's so clean. It's completely white, but not hospital white... just, snow-white. There's no other way to describe it. It's natural.   It's been snowing on and off lately, never enough to stay during the day. But apparently it snowed last night and absolutely everything is covered with exactly one centimeter of snow, coated over. One centimeter over the driveway. One centimeter over the road. One centimeter clumped up over the grass.   And part of what makes s

Volunteer Hours

So, I'm volunteering at this kinda small summer camp, it's not really very well organized, one of those school things... I swear, it's like five teachers dropped dead before the last week of camp, I mean it's like none of them want to teach for the last week. Horribly understaffed, horribly... there are literally two teachers there for the entire day, a couple come for only the morning, one for the afternoon, and then there's me.   So I'm "teaching" (rather, handling the class) drawing and math

Thank You Card For My Teacher...

Thought I'd share this 'cuz I liked how it turned out.   I asked my Chemistry teacher from last year to write me a college recommendation letter, and she did, so I made a lil' holidays/thank you card for her.     Anybody who's taken Chemistry and really screwed up on a titration will get this joke.   (this includes me)   (I managed to salvage the lab, though)

So Today Is...

Little (GL-themed, obviously) doodle I scrawled in my agenda, on today's date, which of course is my birthday.   Eh, unfortunately not the best of days. Mostly small misfortunes that will go away, but what really gets me is that my dinky lil' Chinese MP3 player finally broke, after 2 years of functioning fine. Not by any fault of its own, either; you know how you're supposed to eject a device before removing it? The school computers wouldn't let me... so now it can't communicate with my compu

British Broadcasting Company

I entered da BBC Contestamadoohickey!   Yes, this entry has no other point.   Holy blatant advertising, Batman!   I heard that from someone somewhere, I forget. I've used it way too many times before.   Also, The Cobra Event by Richard Preston.   And there's apparently a Warriors comic/graphic novel thingy out now. I read the first one at Barnes & Noble.   Uh, this was kind of a pointless post.   Pizza party! \m/,

So I Made A Plot Twist Today

52-pickup, updated on Sundays as always...   Since I doubt many people will find the above link interesting I may as well do this again.   Oh yeah, today's episode of Rideback was amazing.

Sliding Door Theory...

Mudd (the building in which the Gateway Computer lab is in [YES IT'S NAMED "Mudd" get over it >>]) has automatic sliding doors, but the "automatic' turns off at night and on weekends... and my ID isn't programmed into that particular door (it's programed into Gateway's door, but it's useless if I can't get into the building to get into the lab). I asked about it and was told that I'd just have to wait for someone to leave. Even the TA's, who are actual Columbia students and whatnot, can't

Very Bad Playgrounds

I may have already ranted about how bad that new playground is, but I just took my sister there today, and I must comment on it, it absolutely stinks. It's not just poorly designed. If you ask me, it's unSAFE. Heck, I'm ready to write in to complain.   See, it's NEW, a lot newer and fancier, but it's like they tried to make it look pretty and shiny before making it work well for children.   No part of a playground equipment should be open that is above four feet. By open I mean like, a ladder,

There's Something In This World...

There's something in this world that nobody has seen. It's something gentle, and very sweet.Probably, if it could be seen, everybody would want it. That's exactly why nobody has seen it.So that it could not be so easily obtained, the world hid it away. However, one day, somebody will find it.The person who should obtain it—that person alone—will be the one who can clearly see it.   And that's how it goes.

Busy Day

Spent most of the day at PUMaC, the Princeton University Math Competition (you can't pronounce "PUMC" after all).   Man those tests were hard. And I mean hard. Hard as in, "How the heck do I even start this problem?" hard.   It's not even obscure topics so to speak, except for maybe the number theory stuff. The four categories for individual tests were algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics; each person on the team took two. I took algebra and geometry, in hindsight perhaps I shou

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy year of the ox/cow! Yay for ambiguously translatable words! =D   I don't actually have a relevant image, so how about an update on the CG. I'm probably gonna change the shading a lot or just completely redo it cel-style...     Oh, and how could I miss an opportunity to plug 52-pickup?   HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR I'M ON TOPIC OKAY.

It's About Time To Blog About - Something -

What is there to blag about?   Lessee... well, today, after a week of not working properly, my wireless tablet mouse died for good. We ordered a new one. In the meantime, I have to use a cruddy -normal- mouse... I'm just so used to the custom sensitivity level that it feels weird using a normal mouse.   Though because it really doesn't work anymore, I got to dissect it!     It's not superficial damage either, I checked and the clicking component itself has stopped responding.   What else?

Another Interesting Language Note

As stubborn and frequently unable to handle certain ideas that friend of mine is, he does ask some good questions.   Today he mentioned that he'd heard that in either Chinese or Japanese, the past was referred to as "forward" and the future as "backwards," while the opposite is true in English. At first I was all, "What are you talking about?" but then I though about it for a second, and I realized, hey, technically he's right, that's true for both languages, although when used in context of ti

Leap Day!

They oughta make Leap Day specialer than they do. I mean, it only comes once every four years!   And don't we actually get an extra .26 days each year? So the leap yer gets rid of the .25... but that means every 100 years we should have a doubleleap year! Gasp!

Huna!

Huzzah!   At 6:06 PM today, I GET MY HUNA! =3   *is happeh*   That means 2 pieces of art, in the same topic (one post) and a chapter of Makuta Rehersal (second post). I HOPE to be able to change my av, but the one I'm working on... not going well.   I get to be INVISIBLE now! =3   *so happy*   Three years. Wow. Long time.

More Discouraging News...

Resolution is terrible, but you can make out "Kyoto Anime-shon" on the last line of the Staff credits.   So I guess it's final, K-On is KyoAni's spring show. Not that they can't work on two shows at once (they're doing so this season) but Munto TV (which actually has a stupidly long full name) is basically an OVA remake... makes the news of Haruhi S2 even less likely.   I'm still holding out on the fact that, well, they devoted the whole darned front cover of Newtype to the announcement. They'

Halloween Doodlings

Doodled on English notes, vector'd in Photoshop.   I also made another agenda doodle in the Oct 31 box, and gave that a quick color too.   Aaaah Nia is so much fun to draw! Altho the tiny scale I've gotten used to doodling things on isn't exactly doing wonders for my detail work.   So I set both my alarms last night, for 5:05 and 5:15. Turn it up to max volume. I wake up to hear my clock beeping and go "Great, I woke up at the planned time!"   Look at the clock, it's 5:58.   I SLEPT THROUGH

Back, And Other Stuff

Yeah, I know I said Tuesday. Well, I lied. Thursday.   Bah, didn't get to update the Lyg comic... I've been on the dot for eight weeks! Gah, oh well. Comic 9 will be up this Saturday instead... I mean what really gets me is, this was gonna be the first thing that I could actually get done each week, on schedule, that I have an idea of where I'm going, a very SPECIFIC, comic-by-comic idea, that I could easily get down on paper, but alas life STILL got in the way and I had no buffer zone, and no

Zoom Zoom

Click here.   That was hard to make I'm still wondering how I'll do the windsheild... I forget if blinn allows transparency.   Yeah that's another thing. Where to the names for those kinds of rendering surfaces come from? "Anisotropic." "Blinn." "Lambert." "Phong." What?   But whatever. 3D is fun... =D   There are bottom details but they're positioned horribly... based on what I have, there's like no room for the driver XD. I'll figure it out.   I already copied and flipped the hood, but f

Huius Collegii Olim Regalis Nunc Columbiae Dicti

Well, I just got settled in my dorm at Columbia University for the summer program, and my parents and sister just left.   I'm on my dad's laptop, and there is a wireless internet connection, not that strong though, and it's kinda slow, and the screen is miniscule compared to my huge freakin' LCD that I"m used to, and the keyboard is awkward...   But it'll do.   When my parents and sister left, I bent down and gave my sister a hug... and, well, after a few seconds I realized she wasn't letting

Ridiculously Complicated

I went to maximum zoom on Chrome and only then could I make out all the details on the last kanji there.   And I thought some of those Chinese characters were hard. I learned simplified Chinese. No such luck, so far as I can tell, kanji came from unsimplified.   How is it possible to remember that? How is it possible to write that on a sheet of lined paper? I mean, the "Suzumiya," fair enough, about on par with simplified Chinese. First half of "yuuutsu," okay, that's 15 strokes, but I've had
